The door is opened using one of the new key-rods, revealing a large room. At the far end of the room is a metallic circle, large enough for 2 or 3 people to walk through side-by-side, stands in a metal frame atop a 5 foot high dais. The thick metal ring is inscribed with runes. Two pillars flank the ring, and a ramp leads from the floor to the dais.

"Mr. Slick, I think this qualifies as 'valuable'. You were quite correct." He inclines his head. Haer Kul will study the runes to see if he can decipher them:

The runes appear to be of different languages, though some are similar to the spiky runes which have been seen in various places around the complex. Others clearly represent numbers, but the investigator does not recognize the specific figures.

BR-N3R adds, "Damage to power generation prevents gate activation."

"Ummm.... yes. The south hallway. Best to hurry before the complex blows up."

The party makes their way to the hall leading south of the central shaft.

Almost immediately, Thorthal spots one of the akata guarding one of the branches of the hall.

Strange that the creature did not react to the combat in the main hall.

"I am not keen on receiving any parasites today. I hope that grease is flammable." Haer Kul snaps his fingers and a flame appears in his hand. He throws the flame at the Akata ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7, fizzle: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

I moved Haer Kul to a position where he could target the Akata first.

Seizing on Haer Kul's statement, BR-N3R scuttles forward to where it can attempt to ignite the grease with its tail-torch.

When it fails, its eyes glow in Haer Kul's direction.
"Illogical. Why state grease is combustible when it is not? Why are words flammable and inflammable not opposites?"

If no one objects, Haer Kul will step forward and begin burning the thing.

Morgrom grins and brings his sword down on the beast.

cut the grass: 4d6 + 8 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 2) + 8 = 21

The akata begins bleeding out.

A discernible breeze flows out of the alcove behind it, seeming to come from a set of nested metal cones in the ceiling.

Slick moves forward, and sees two more akata in a shelf filled room to the east. The door has been torn open, probably by the beasts, who seem larger than the others the group has encountered.

New Maintenance map. Note that Slick got a +3 (or more) bonus to his Stealth DC due to distance.
