Resa Dermade |
Hello everyone! I am playing Resa Dermade, a tiefling who suffered under the yoke of the Cheliax oppression! She is somewhat shy, but does talk. She is a bit young at 54 for a tiefling
Delta Arena |
Welcome, hope you enjoy PBP on Paizo!
Hey Delta, thanks for the invite. I'm pretty new to PBP games on Paizo. Do you prefer we setup an alias to post as our character?
Setting up an alias is not absolutely necessary but it does help quite a bit, specially in you can add the basic information like Resa has.
Ardoinel Oreflame |
Thank you kindly for the invitation!
Currently reworking Ardoinel Oreflame into his Ash Oracle format for the game. Long story short, he's a second-generation adventurer, following in the footsteps of his dwarven dad and elven mom, seeking solace from the horrific nightmares of desolation and dragonfire that have haunted him since childhood. He sees fire.

My understanding from the discussion in the Recruitment thread is that it's the optional rule found HERE. Here's the important part:
The only difference between a normal character and a free archetype character is that the character receives an extra class feat at 2nd level and every even level thereafter that they can use only for archetype feats.
AIUI we're also playing with the Ancestry Paragon variant, found HERE.
When creating an ancestry paragon character, instead of starting with one ancestry feat and gaining another at 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th levels, the character starts with two ancestry feats and gains another at every odd level thereafter (3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and so on) for a total of 11 ancestry feats.
Delta Arena |
That's right, those are the two optional rules that we are using.
Free Archetype is basically a rule that lets you focus on developing with class while having fun exploring archetypes alongside it. Since you get the extra class feats to use.
Ancestry Paragon is pretty self-explanatory. More ancestry feats to develop that side of your character more.

Thanks for the invite Delta! And hello everybody! Also, watch out--I use a lot of exclamation marks!
Anyway, I'll be playing Ellaeaanda (but you can type Anda for short), an elven seer (using the mechanics of the Investigator class but refluffing them as the result of a seer’s visions and oracular knowledge) who is new in town.
Still working on finalizing her build and finishing her profile.
Netkin Bigpot |
Hi everyone! Nice to meet you all, and thank you GM for picking my character!
Introducing Netkin Bigpot, a massive nerd who has lived alone with his grandma his whole life. Rumours have it that Grandma Bigpot is almost as old as Breachhill itself.
He's a bit of a recluse, and doesn't go out much. He's quite insistent that Lamond Breachton might not have been all saintly - the fool.
He's got some kind of rare and debilitating condition, which is why he mostly stays at home. Apparently, he self-medicates.
Most people in Breachhill consider him something of an oddball, really.
Zeldones |
Zeldones is currently built as a high-mobility flanking buddy melee combatant, with a lot of rogue features and backup party face skills. However, we seem to be short on heavy armor types...should I rebuild him with the inexorable iron hybrid field of study instead of laughing shadow?
Eletido |
Sharing a party cheat sheet I quickly put together. Thought it might be helpful since we are talking party composition & roles. And apologizes if I've gotten the role incorrect. It's only what came to mind after scanning your character for 30 seconds.
- Resa Dermade, rogue; DPS & skills
- Ardoinel Oreflame, oracle; blaster
- Zeldones, magus; DPS
- Ellaeaandra, investigator; DPS & knowledge
- Netkin Bigpot, alchemist; DPS/healing
- Cerrus Falto, thaumaturge; DPS & skills
So, as other folks have pointed out, we are light on tanky/'full' martial characters. We also might be light on out-of-combat healing. I'm not advocating for anyone to completely change their character, just pointing out where we have some gaps.
Zeldones |
Eletido, once you post as your character in the Gameplay thread, you'll be added to the Players and Characters tabs. Most of us probably posted and then deleted the post; you'll see that referred to as "phantom dotting," because once you've done it the Gameplay thread has a dot next to it.
Netkin Bigpot |
We can work a bit with Free Archetypes to make our characters better rounded. We already have an Oracle with access to healing spells, but worst case scenario, someone can multiclass into cleric.
The closest thing we have to a tank is probably the Magus; but then again, Rogue or Investigator can also be tweaked to serve the role of a Fighter.
Netkin will only be useful in ranged attacks, unfortunately...
Ellaeaanda |
If I have enough gold for it, I'll try to have Ellaeaanda pick up a healer's kit. She will likely be a very weak contributor to combat.
Resa Dermade |
As for the other things, I think we are going to be okay. We do have a town to shop in so it should not be too bad to maybe kill a few bandits and get some gold and get the healers kit and some other stuff. I'm still not sure on my free archetype really, I think I may do Cavalier though it doesn't really do much outside of give me a flanking partner for sure.
Ardoinel Oreflame |
I'm also planning on crafting elixirs and stuff in our spare time. "Practice herbalism" is one of Yuelral's edicts, after all!
Ellaeaanda |
I think I've finalized my character's details and profile. It's late here, so I'll put up an in-game post tomorrow.
Eletido |
@Delta, I'm making a few minor changes to Cerrus.
I swapped Regalia for Tome, as that better matches my head canon for Cerrus at the moment. I do plan to take Regalia later so that's a possible hook for loot or character development, etc.
I also didn't fully read the Ancestry Paragon variant rule and missed that we gain an extra ancestry feat at level 1. I haven't finalized my decision, but currently leaning toward General Training to grab Bon Mot.

That's alright, there is still some time before you'll start needing your feats and such. Let me know a level or so in advance of regalia to plan ahead for it.

Netkin does have a healer's tools.
Thanks for letting me know! Should I get rid of my healer's toolkit then?
My options are to have either a longbow, or a shortbow + healer's toolkit. What does everyone think would be best?

Wait why either? Should have enough for both right?
Ardoinel Oreflame |
She was on the short side, standing taller than a dwarf, but very short for the elf she seemed to look like.
LOL, so we're about the same height, then? :P

Not enough gold. She already has a chain shirt (5 gp). Healer's toolkit costs 5 gp while longbow costs 6 gp, so it's one or the other.

Cerrus, Zeldones' backstory includes his maternal grandparents being adventurers who retired in Breachill for reasons unspecified. Want to be distant cousins who've never met?
Zeldones |
@Zeldones: Yeah, I think that would work nicely. Do you have a backstory write up I can reference?
It's in my character profile, down at the bottom.
ETA: At least, I thought I'd pasted it in yesterday. I'll get it in there tonight (UST -5).

It's up now. Incidentally, if you want to linkify a URL, use the "url" code:
[url = <insert URL here> ]text[/ url]
Eliminate the spaces to make it work.

I read the backstory. Sounds like a cool tie to Cerrus background of family ties to Breachill. Works for me.
