Male Elder GM

Slick quietly slips through the revolving door.

As he stands framed in the doorway, he, Haer Kul, and Thorthal can see that the occupant of the other room is now by the room's exit.

It resembles a metal scorpion with a body about 2' across. There are strange runes on its body. It has just extended its tail towards the door activator.

As it spots Slick, it says something incomprehensible in a metallic voice.

Haer Kul:
Haer Kul thinks it was something like, "Bad pets! Danger! Start Run Away Stuff!"

I'm putting you in Initiative here, because order of actions matters. Please put any early posting, including talking, in spoilers.

Male Elder GM

This is the discussion thread for an upcoming invitational game starting with The Assimilation Strain.

Players, please check in here.

Reporting for duty!

Where are the ugly bags of XP?

Sovereign Court Contributor

I am here. I'm thinking of playing a dwarf fighter.

Holy crap I have a lot of aliases.

Male Zathras

G'day. I'm probably good with pretty much any character type.

Sovereign Court Contributor

BTW, there is kind of a running joke that I always play a dwarf fighter. I probably won't actually. Although I might.

Grand Lodge

Craig Shackleton wrote:

pfft... check out my profile.

EDIT: so many one-joke aliaii

I'm considering a Medium, which doesn't help at all for what other players should choose because it's like a switch-hitter and can fill in for any missing role.

That's not why I wanted to play one (to make things harder for everyone else)... ;)

I have decided on a Medium, I'll have the character done ASAP.

Hello, not really sure what I will want to play. I'll probably just wait until everyone else has narrowed things down a bit and try to fill in some holes. I also have no problems with playing the requisite one Human, and may do so anyways if someone else already has.

Yes, I will play a Medium Human Medium, because being a Small Medium is just confusing.

I am thinking of playing a Half-Orc Cleric of Gorum. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!!!!

Male Zathras

Right now I'm leaning towards a Gnome, with one of the following classes:

  • Bard
  • Sorcerer
  • Arcanist
  • Oracle
  • Summoner

I'm open to advice or comments if someone thinks one of these combos is particularly bad (or particularly good). I haven't read up on the last three yet.

Sovereign Court Contributor

I am in favour of small mediums, especially if we have to escape from the authorities. But I will probably play a warpriest, unless that interferes with someone else's plan.

Male Zathras

Dwarf warpriest?

Male Zathras

Hmmm. The Sleuth Investigator is starting to look attractive with the "Run Like Hell" ability. +20 to speed for a minute would be really good for a gnome. Arriba! Arriba! Andale!

Male Elder GM

I'm not sure if this may affect your character choices...

You've been hired by the owners of "Fine Woodwork of the Shimmermere (a fully owned subsidiary of the Aspis Consortium)" to find out what happened to a Darkwood shipment they were expecting from the village of Holver's Ferry.
They inform you that they previously sent a single agent, but he was found wandering the wilderness in such a maddened state that a group of guards had to kill him to protect themselves.
The company has offered you the princely sum of 800 gold pieces each to discover what happened to him, and what is going on in Holver's Ferry.

Grand Lodge

For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Medium is pretty close to a Bard in role/power level.

Dark Archive

So far it looks like we need either someone in the front line, or an arcane caster. At this point I am thinking either a Brawler, or some variant of Sorcerer or Wizard. Do either of those interfere with anybodies choices so far?

I have had a look at the warpriest (this is new to me) and I think it fits my idea better than a straight cleric. Still going with Half-Orc. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!!!

Just found the Bolt whatever archetype for gunslinger. Basically a crossbow-slinger. Is that too dependent on a particular weapon?

Truthfully, I'm happy to play whatever.

Okay, that was weird. Apparently I was still logged in under my friend's account who needed to do something on here on my computer a few weeks ago. I am sure I told Chrome not to remember his password.

Should be okay for now.

After this adventure, you can read the players guide and see what you think from there.

Is there any sort of timeframe to have our stuff done? I have most of my character sheet filled out, except for a name, and have to complete his background.

I'm going to try to get Bardos the Medium done tomorrow.

Male Elder GM

I have no timeframe, but should be ready to go on relatively short notice once everybody has a character ready.

So far, combining thread and emails, it probably looks like
Scott - Medium Medium (not at large)
Chris - WOW orc
Craig - crossbowslinger
Jeff - brawler
Roy - runs away

Correctish?

Male Zathras

For me, yeah. The Gnome Sleuth looks like it could be fun. But I'm feeling a lot of pressure to come up with a good name....

Gnome Name Generator

Sovereign Court

I am thinking of going with a wizard based loosely on the museum curator from Penny Dreadful. Basically a fat pointy mustached rosy cheeked buffoon with an affected lisp.

Male Elder GM

When you finish creating your character, please create an alias using the character's name (if possible, some may be in use).
You can either put your entire character into your profile, or put the basics in and email me the rest.
If you click on my alias above and check out my DM Rambler profile, you can see how I formatted things to get the nifty banner stats. Basically, you put everything under Class/Level.
Also be aware that the picture you use for your character's avatar is likely to be your "miniature" on the maps.

I can't seem to find where to edit the profile to make the bar of stats appear. I can do it with a pathfinder society character, but not an alias. Where do I find the options for that on an alias?

Jeff, create your alias and the make a post. From the post, select the name link. This should give you a page that has a bunch of tabs for the alias, including profile. Select the profile tab and go to town.

I've got a rough draft done, still thinking a bit on the back story. If what I've put together conflicts with someone, I have no issues changing it up a bit, I can also change the race if no one ended up being Human.

Now to see if I can get the stats bar to show up.

Sovereign Court

I'll be human. Crazy week at work but I'll try to make a character tomorrow night.

The ShadowShackleton wrote:

No rush. And I'm glad to see that you will give being human a shot.

I'm ready for the intro whenever you guys are, but we will all have busy stretches for the next week or two :)

Top Secret only for the players! Definitely not for Legendary folks!:
They're already on to us. The co-writer of The Assimilation Strain, Neil Spicer, already mentioned to me that he had spotted this thread. The new code word for future correspondence is "Duckville"

Yes, busier week than I had hoped. Bardos is coming along though.

While we're waiting for the last couple of characters to come in, a few mechanical things...

I'm going to try this without xp. I'll just let you know when to level up.

I think it's best if I just roll initiative for everybody. I'll list the order for the round. People can send me their actions in any order, but please put them in a spoiler if you're not next. Probably best to send your action if you check the thread and you're in the next 3 to act. If we don't get an action in a reasonable amount of time, I'll determine the action.

Maps and pictures will continue to be updated on the Google Drive.

The game thread will be called "The Ascribblation Strain". I hope to start it up tomorrow or Monday.

Haer Kul is submitted. At the moment he's a little down on his luck, and has foregone his formal attire for something more practical. He walks with a cane, often wears pince nez glasses, and his moustache is precisely waxed.
