Letting out a very human sounding sigh. Gnasher rolled his eyes. Snarling "Tribe not have time for this." Holding his bardiche in one hand and the rope in the other. Gnasher moves down the steps calling. "Ghost tell humans 'Gnoll Killer' comes." Getting down the steps near Malgrim, Gnasher glares at the humans. "I 'Gnasher' Red Claw, last of tribe, killed by Carrion King. Have no time to take slaves, have no time suckling dumb humans. Tribe came to kill all gnolls here. Humans can leave or humans can stay, Gnasher no care. Humans stay out of Gnashers way." He glares at the humans, froth dripping from his jowls. "Where gnolls? What happen here? Gnasher Kill Carrion Kings Gnolls, Humans stay out of way!"

Happy to fuss at them as long as it takes to intimidate them, What happened here?

Looking from Urah to the slaves, Gnasher observes, "Maybe, maybe not. Humans stay here if wish. Tribe will kill all Gnolls, but not lizards. When tribe leave, humans can follow to Kelmarane, or not, up to humans."

Wondering if there might be access to the larger building via tunnels, Gnasher, Points past the first slave on the steps, asking, "What further below? Tunnels to big building?"

He draws out the knife he had offered the mute girl, hoping these humans were braver. Tossing the knife at the feet of the slave that had attacked Malgrim he points to the building in the southeast corner. "Tribe killed giant snake, meat good eating. If Humans hungry go get meat to eat."

Looking past at the other two humans, he took two more knives out of his belt, and tossed them their way as well.

Malgrim listens to the conversation and shrugs, "We have said enough. They have survived this long. They can hide for a bit longer, but we should not give the gnolls more time to prepare." He turns to continue leading towards where they think the gnolls are.

The man picks up the dagger, keeping an eye on the PCs all the while.

"We'll just stay in here for a while, though a little meat would be greatly appreciated. Maybe, if you are who you say you are, we can get out of here."

He does seem to be slowly warming to the idea that you might, just might be willing to help them and not enslave them.

"The Warrens are down there. We escaped a couple of days ago and came up here. There were others too, but they were too scared to join us. Either they have been recaptured by now or they are holed up somewhere down there with Lazrul. He killed a couple of the gnolls when the trogs attacked, buying us our escape."

"We were down there a lot. The gnolls had us digging the place out. If the gnolls didn't kill us, the rocks sometimes would. You might have noticed this place is falling apart. Going back would be suicide, going forward is almost as risky. We sure hope you guys are what you say you are."

Giving a very human sigh, Gnasher takes off his pack and sorts out a day's worth of rations that he brought from Kelmarane, Setting the food down, he turned to follow Malgrim out of the entrance to the slave pit. Reshouldering his pack he points towards the North-east B he adds "Tribe finish checking perimeter and secure exit." He begins to cautiously move towards the last 'out building' keeping a keen eye out as he goes.

Taking 10 (18) on perception, Malgrim, I hope this is not too much of a misinterpretation of your actions. Gnasher's rage is down 1/3, I'd rather finish the outside, and go into 'G' fully rested. If there is nothing worth killing in 'B' we could come back and finish whatever gnolls are in the 'Warrens'

Just that it was a gargoyle. Normal roll needed to detect it is a gargoyle was 10 + CR so you made that. You would get a bit of information from that, but to get questions asked you have to beat it by 5 and you needed a 21 so you missed by 2. What do you mean by giving up the AoO? I'm thinking you move enough so that you draw an AoO and give up a full attack, forcing it to give up its own full attack if it wants to attack you. Is that correct?

Gnasher is able to land a blow on the gargoyle, taking a rather large chip out of its stony hide. Urah squirms under Tarak's legs and almost magically appears on the other side of him standing about 20' away. No because

1) It is flying/hovering above so there are no flanking opportunities
2) You stayed near to the others when you moved so no charge.

It is hovering right over you. It was right over Urah, but when he fled, it shifted to be over you. If you cast a spell you will draw an AoO unless you cast defensively. And if you move more than a 5'step, it will get an AoO. Do you still want to step and cast?

Tarak floats in a world of blackness and noise, a mote adrift in a raging thunderstorm. Yet this feels different, something more ... primal ... and less. Something. Something's missing from the storm. Fading and floating amongst the howling noise and flashing light, Tarak feels the difference. The smell is different, this raging storm lacks the smell of the sea. The salt. This is odd, this is not home, this is...

Tarak gasps and convulses and life and healing magics surge through him, closing wounds and bringing him back to consciousness. Groaning and rolling over, he staggers to his feet.

"Gah, by Besmira's [redacted] that was bad. Ye got the buggers though, well enough." looking around groggily he notes the shattered gargoyles, then looks over to the hobgoblin and smiles his thanks, "I think ye saved me from the edge of the abyss my boy, you have my thanks."

Casually plucking at the bloodstained rents in his armor, he looks at the group, "We resting now? I have some potions that'll get me right as the rain, but me magic is runnin' low quicklike."

Indeed, a retreat might be prudent. Looking upward you see spaces for more of the things, but no remains in sight. Then again, something may have eaten them, something that likes eating rocks. Which is a disturbing thought in and of itself.

The dice hate you.

Drawn to the sound of battle, two of the gnoll sentries come barreling at you, alarmingly sudden and fast due to their oversized mounts. And once again you find yourself in combat.

I make that as Tarak having -20 HP. How does the subdual work?

I do think he is at -20. If he wanted another healing I could at the cost of more subdual or he could have healed himself. And the 5 subdual is just like normal subdual except he only gets it back after he rests. If he drops down to 5 hps or less the subdual will make him fall unconscious.

I moved to be next to Gnasher. If we need to move further let me know.

I had ... 43 total damage -1 for the failed stabilize, 35 HP so I was at -9. Urah healed me for 3, so -6. Then Malgrim healed me for 23, so that leaves me 17 of 35. So down 18. Then I have the 5 non-lethal, so that's an effective HP of 12 until I fall down again.

I'm not sure how long we were talking, but if we didn't immediately say we were heading back, Tarak would have either asked for more healing or drank one of his CMW potions. It's fine though, I know what my first action will be :)

@Tarak
Thanks for the math :)

The trouble is that the gnolls were out looking for you, the battle drew them, and they appeared right after the first healing. That was what the wandering monster roll was for. A 6 was a bad roll for you.
