""New friends? Those?" Urah grumbles about the so called new friends Gnasher is offering Urah to be friendly with.

"I'll follow along but they growl at me the wrong way, I'm running away." he shrugs as he follows the big gnoll.

You head down the hallway, in search of the commotion and come to a room to you left. this chamber reeks of wild beasts. Around the room, wooden stakes pounded into the mud-brick walls secure several dangling ropes with leather collars. A mosaic of a huge, snarling, insect-like beast with bulging eyes and yellow mandibles covers the floor. Its many arms clutch falchions, gemstones, and screaming women.

DC 15 knowledge religion:
The image on the floor is of Rovagug, although the depiction of him wielding falchions is unusual.

A pair of gnoll guards stand watch here with six haggard humans armed with clubs. Immediately upon seeing you one of the gnolls yells something and the humans attack.

gnoll:
"Destroy the invaders! Looks like we might eat something other than a slave tonight." This seems to motivate the poorly armed people.[/b]

See Malgrim deal with the red gnoll to the right, Gnasher told the others what the gnolls said. "Gnolls tell humans to attack, that they eat tribe instead of slave." he looks back at Urah, "They are human, convince them we are on their side." Roaring back in gnoll as he drops his bardiche in the hallway. Pushing through the humans he begins to rage, drawing the magical axe as he goes. His paws grow into overly large claws, his eyes glow red, his fangs enlarge and he begins to froth at the mouth. While his brown hide takes on a red-orange cast to it, giving a peculiar laugh. Stopping in the middle of the pack of club waving humans, he lifts the great axe and swings it at the black gnoll.

Soooo close. Malgrim wastes the first gnoll and Gnasher brings the second one to an inch of it's life. Can Urah eliminate the final slaver before the grunts are forced to react?

The last gnoll collapses and the slaves lower their clubs.

One of them, the largest of the bunch, steps forward and addresses the group in common. "That was impressive, or lucky." He looks at you with no little cynicism and distrust, but also a bit of hope.

Looking over his shoulder in the direction of the howling, he muses aloud, "Now if you could just clear the way and get rid of that unchosen brute, we can join the other escapees. Though I suppose they are doomed. How did you get in here?" Unspoken is the 'alive' at the end of that sentence.

having talked to the human slaves long enough to recover from his fatigue, Gnasher nods in agreement with Malgrim and Urah. Hefting his bardiche, he continues down the cave tunnel.

Did the slaves indicate which direction was the quickest to their next victim?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Malgrim and Urah disagreed. Malgrim wants to go back the way you came in and reunite these slaves with the previous ones you found. Urah, ironically, want to continue on deeper. the slaved sis indicate that one of the unchosen brutes is the source of the sounds.

"Hey, uh, would you mind?"

The leader points a the two bodies indicating, perhaps, that he would like to loot the bodies.

Urah rushes to tap Gnasher on the shoulder, stopping the big gnoll.

"Wait. Gnasher. We may have misunderstood each other. Do we rest or do we go on and let these slaves meet with the other freed slaves?"

Stopping at Urah's request Gnasher turned and looked from Urah to Malgrim then towards the slaves. Nodding his head yes, he pointed to the gnoll weapons. "Humans take weapons." Gnasher looked back at Malgrim, pointing at the slave who spoke. "Him say tribe kill gnoll and join others, Him know where slaves at."

Smiling and nodding as Tarak said he's good for a fight, Gnasher looks towards Urah who oddly was holding his hand up. But since Urah said the leader should decide, Gnasher looks to Tarak, whom he'd assumed was leader to his wisdom, fancy words and aged appearance, Giving the best pout he was able to with his puppy like eyes.

Yeah, gnasher thinks Tarak is old and educated because of his pirate accent. Magrim, you make the call, if you really feel we need to rest I'm good with it. Interestingly, it may make gnasher think you're the leader :)

The slave told us we'd have to face an 'unchosen brute' but it's cool.

Letting out a very human like sigh, Gnasher looks from Tarak to Malgrim nodding. Bahram had told Gnasher that when humans decide to change leadership that more times than not it was not a violent affair. Realizing that this must be one of those times, Gnasher shouldered his weapon. Looking a little crestfallen he follows along. "New Chief say time to rest."

Tarak nods, ”Aye, it be best if we can save some more. I want to try something. Don’t attack the cat.” and he steps back and focuses, blurring at his lines and shifting, but instead of the familiar lizard shape, he finishes as a massive tiger.

Nodding in agreement with Magrim, Gnasher cocks his head, not sure what Tarak is talking about. As the druid morphs into a tiger, Gnasher gives a toothy grin. "Nice." Lifting the bardiche off of his shoulder, Gnasher proceeds down the tunnel towards the noise, keeping a keen eye out as he goes.

It doesn't take long before you find out what an Unchosen is. Turns out you have met them before, although the ones you fought were pretty beat up. The walls of this room are splattered with fresh blood and the bodies of three men, you think, lie scattered in pieces on the floor. Upon seeing you the brute roars in delight and looks quite ready to attack, though you get the drop on him.

Seeing the large gnoll like brute, Gnasher begins to rage. His paws grow into overly large claws, his eyes glow red, his fangs enlarge and he begins to froth at the mouth. While his brown hide takes on a red-orange cast to it, giving a peculiar laugh. Stepping forward he lifts the bardiche high, chopping down at the beast, then slashing back accross in a second attack.

Tarak stalks into the room and turns to the creature fighting Gnasher (I believe I can make it there, even if the stuff is rough terrain) and starts growling out a spell, finally roaring as it unleashes from his fanged maw.

Malgrim steps up behind Gnasher to see the creature and tries to lob a blast of water at it.

5 ft step. Gather Power, Empower and Fire away. If the ceiling is 15+ ft I should be able to lob and ignore cover. If it is less then 15 ft then I do have cover so subtract 4 from the following.

Water Blast w/Elemental Overflow , PBS : 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 14

Damage, B, Water Blast w/Elemental Overflow , PBS: 3d6 + 9 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 4, 1) + 9 + 4 + 1 = 22

Well..he hasn't gone yet, but a 14, or 10 with cover, probably still misses. If it miraculously hits I do 33 Bludgeoning damage.

Gnasher manages to hit with his second strike. Seems like these things are pretty easy to hit.

Not very agile either as the lightning bolt his his square in the side and he rips a hole like through a wet tissue paper.

@Malgrim
I'm going to say that the rooms have about 10' high ceilings, and the rough hewn locations would be about 8' high, though the dome room is higher.

But in spite of the fact that it looks like it took an incapacitating wound, it just seems to make it angry.

Chopping into the 'Unchosen' Gnasher's smile widens as the tiger Tarak strikes the beast with lighting. As the angry creature moves closer Gnasher ducks and dodges the claws, dropping the bardiche to fight in kind. Seeing the tiger come in from the other side, Gnasher's hyena like laughter gets louder as he steps against the wall and attacks with tooth and claw as well.

I don't think we have a flank yet, but if we do please add the +2, hmmm, is the unchosen grappled?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Everyone beats on the raging gnoll (no, not that one, the unchosen one) and dills it so full of holes and tears that it drops like a wet tissue paper. Well, except for Malgrim, who ALMOST did hit that other raging gnoll when it ricochets off the ceiling at a bad angle. Guess he needs just a little more work on that lob. Or, perhaps, not try to lob when the ceilings are low?

Combat over. There lies before you a bunch of glittery body parts. And don't even ask about loot. Slaves and unchosen are not prime pickings to say the least.

Looking back to the newly armed slaves, Gnasher asked, pointing towards the north. "Slaves said some slaves escaped. Tribe met escaped slaves near steps in fortress, is there way to get there from here?"
