The poison seeping into his system, Gnasher snarls, "Stupid trap." Stepping back gingerly on the injured foot again he chops at the green gnoll in front of him.

Though Gnasher's wound seals up nicely under the effects of his rage, he can feel that something is definitely wrong inside as he feels a wave of discomfort and a stabbing pain in his leg. In a fit of annoyance he swings and connects, removing yet another gnoll from the battlefield. Malgrim, on the other hand manages to bounce a water bolt off the stairs and give everyone a much needed shower.

miteke, I realize it's only one point, but Gnasher never raged, so he never healed.

Glaring at the pit with the poisoned sticks, Gnasher walks over and kicks one of the dead gnolls. "Stick had poison, Gnasher feels..." he shakes his head, unable to exactly describe the feeling of one losing constitution, "Gnasher feel OFF." He looks from Dino-Torak to Urah, "Tribe have any magic might help?"

He will then begin moving forward and looking for traps as he goes.

Seeing Malgrim move ahead, Gnasher looks back towards dino-Torak. Then kicking one of the gnoll corpses again, he follows the hobgoblin bardiche at the ready.

Tarak just snorts and shakes his head at the question from Gnasher. Then, shaking some blood from his claws, he follows the group.

If there is no danger involved you can take 10, like if you were looking through a library for a book, but this would not qualify.

The group advances after a thorough look-see, though that turns up nothing other than more trapped stairs. Turns out that every other stair is trapped, easy enough to remember which was probably a plus when it came to the gnolls. You open the double doors and see another pair right ahead, stoutly barred from your side. To the left and right you see a narrow hallway that circles the inside of the dome, its walls crawling with beetles. Do you head clockwise or counter clockwise around the passage, or do you unbar the door and head inside?

You do not find any traps or hear any commotion or notice anything other than the odd pile of 'tools'.

Seeing the Dino Tarak sniffing about, Gnasher points to the left "Chief, sniff left, see if hall circles room with barred door. Maybe has window or other door." He then begins to head that way with the dino-druid, and his other companions.

You follow the curving hallway and come to another pair of doors to the north and south, both barred like the ones to the west, and a set of stairways that lead down.

Only barred from your side. Obviously they are keeping something inside the room, but want to be able to go in easily.

Malgrim trains his shield towards the door and stands a short distance from it waiting for Gnasher to open it.

After circling the room and looking for traps, Tarak looks back at Gnasher and does his best dinosaur shrug, and walks to his usual place behind the big gnoll.


The group lines up behind Gnasher and he opens the door. The dome climbs up high overhead. Long ago, the inner ceiling collapsed, leaving its timbers and skeletal framework exposed beneath its brass-plated shingles. The ground below is cluttered with rubble, heaps of animal skeletons, and countless bloodstains. Waiting for you by the door is an enormous 22-foot-long scorpion waiting by the door which immediately lashes out at Gnasher.

This thing is really nasty and you guys need to level up to fight it. DC 18 Knowledge Nature to identify it.

I'm not quite sure how Gnasher went from clearly avoiding opening the doors to being the first in line to do so, but I'm willing to go with it. But he'll fight at 5th lvl. that's where he was when he opened the door, not going to change it now. If he lives maybe I'll level him. If not, fighting a giant scorpion is a good death.

Seeing the giant scorpion, Gnasher steps over the threshold into the middle of the doorway, hopefully preventing the giant arachnid from passing him to his friends? As he lifts the bardiche high he begins to rage; his paws grow into overly large claws, his eyes glow red, his fangs enlarge and he begins to froth at the mouth. While his brown hide takes on a red-orange cast to it, giving a peculiar laugh. Raging to his full glory he chops at the scorpion.

a 20 ft scorpion? Maps not changed so theatre of the mind. I assume it at least has reach, so Gnasher should be able to reach it with just his 5 ft step. Con - 4, Rage enlarged/Rage: 14/14, HP 52, AC 19. 5 ft step Full Attack + 1 Bardiche, power attack
Attack: 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 12 - 2 = 26 for damage: 2d8 + 7 + 2 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 7 + 2 + 1 + 6 = 21


I'll do init and place the icon after the levelling. I checked the math and found that Gnasher would not even last one round against that thing, particularly since he is down 4 con. If it wins init against Gnasher I'd give it a 75% chance of a TPK at your current level.

Tarak shuffle steps a little to get a clear view then roars like crashing thunder, a bolt of lightning arcing from his fanged maw.

Looks like a 5' step should give me a clear shot at the thing while avoiding Gnasher, if this isn't possible please let me know and I'll do something, I don't want to blast Gnasher as well.

Yeah, even flat footed the 13 is not going to help. But if it somehow hits I do 30 Bludgeoning damage.

Definitely not used to being attacked by its prey. It just stands there as the lighting courses though it. But then it is its turn to act, as Malgrim's water jet slaps it soothingly across its badly damage carapace.

Fortunately for Gnasher the scorpion misses with both of its claws. An incredible feat since Gnasher is not even trying to avoid the shots. But just as things are looking good, the stinger plunges into one of Gnasher's legs and pumps more poison into him. Malgrim continues to absorb water around his bloated form as he sends another empowered blast.

Blindness gives them a -2 AC, and the creature loses its dex to AC. It is awesome if it happens to the enemy. Sad if it happens to you. Gather Power, Empower. Fire away!

27 should hit a blind scorpion. So 36 Bludgeoning damage.


It does help that it is blind, but frankly it's defenses come from it's hard shell and not any ability to avoid a blow and Gnasher's attack bounces harmlessly off the carapace. Touch attacks, on the other hand, are dirt simple and Tarak's snowball definitely makes an impact. And this time Malgrim's bolt of water finishes it of (total of 102 points of damage) and the scorpion goes down.

I will use Kinetic Healer and Kinetic Restoration together on Gnasher. He will heal my Blast in damage and gain d4 strength back. I will take the two drain.

Strength: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Healing: 3d6 + 9 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3, 6) + 9 + 4 = 23

That should fix your strength and damage issues if we want to move on.

Cool, is the str restoration permanent? Or a temporary mental thing. I'm not that familiar with Kineticist so I'm asking. Save the healing, he used the rechargeable wand for the 9 hp.

Remember that Gnasher also has Con damage that needs restored, and, yes, it is permanent. It basically heals the damage. It won't work on drains, but it heals physical stat damage normally.

The only contents of the room are rubble and bones. An odd pet to keep, huh?

I did not know that he was down Con too. How much Con are we talking about? I can do a second one to restore your Con if you want to take the Drain. It probably evens out on HPs but will help your Fort and other Con based things.

Pausing for a moment, Gnasher looks at the scorpion, considering taking a trophy. Shaking his head, he realizes the kill is not truly his. Turning from the giant carcass, he begins moving back towards the hallway. "Well done tribe" Gesturing the general direction of the door. "Carrion king awaits."

Moving out into the hallway he heads to the southern double doors. "Before tribe go below, tribe should make sure no enemies behind." He stops at the double doors to the south, "Gnasher think this other entrance, need to find out." He looks at the door, then looks at Malgrim and Tarak expectantly, hoping they would also inspect the southern double doors.
