Malgrim looks over the door for traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31

miteke |

The doors are not trapped, though they ae so rusty that their once exquisitely carved façade is now indecipherable and their hinges have corroded into the doors themselves. It looks like if you want to go through them you will need to exercise brute force. Or you could just go around them as the way from the south is open.

Malgrim touches Gnasher again and repairs more of the damage.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Feeling a change in how he's feeling, Gnasher nods to Malgrim, "Gnasher thanks you ghost."
He points toward the door they just inspected. "Rusted shut. Gnasher doubt Hyenadon exit through rusted shut door." He then gestures towards steps scratching his head in a very human manor. "Gnasher doubt Hyenadon exit down trapped stairs too." He shrugs shaking his head. "Mystery."
Pointing towards the steps in the hallway, "Tribe go downstairs?"

Malgrim Gryh |

"That seems like the way to go." Malgrim will head down looking around as he goes.

Malgrim Gryh |

All my possible buffs are up and running.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Gnasher has one spell left, shield is the only buff he has and it's only good for one minute per level, so he's holding off.
His bardiche at the ready, Gansher follows behind Malgrim, keeping a keen eye out.

Dino Tarak |

im as ready as I’m going to be. I’m guessing my barkskin is still up (50 minutes) but not sure about Gnasher’s Bulls STR (5 minutes)
Tarak hisses agreement, maybe, it’s hard to understand dinosaur, and heads towards the stairs.

Urah Pyr |

Urah nods.
I have Mage armor up and shield not casted yet due to its shorter duration.

miteke |

You head down the stairs into the warrens, leaving the sunlight behind entering a large chamber to the northeast.
In the center of the large chamber are five dens of scattered bones and matted fur. The stairs yo are on are supported by a dense colonnade, while to the southwest a second flight descends deeper into the earth. To the north, a crude wooden barricade has been erected over the mouth of a tunnel, while to the west a larger path through the mounds of sediment leads into a large, dark hall. The southern wall appears to have partially collapsed, but glimpses of another large space can be had through gaps in the fallen masonry.
The barricade is manned by three gnoll guards watching the barricade - from your side. They look surprised to see you pop up behind them, a group led by a carrion king gnoll but followed by a human and more behind. One of the guards is mounted and two are standing sentry at the barricade while their mounts lounge in the middle of the room.
Not surprised as in flat footed - there was no attempt at stealth and the four of you tromping down a flight of stairs would make enough noise to alert them. The only reason they are not attacking on sight is the disguise Gnasher is wearing. You cold try a bluff of some sort or just launch into combat, but without surprise.

Tarak Stromblessed |

I bet a Flurry of Snowballs might surprise them further

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Is the stairway open so they can see over the rails, or is it enclosed with wall?
Realizing the Gnoll at the end of the step saw him, Gnasher unshouldered his bardiche and chopped at the enemy Black gnoll, then moves further down the steps awaiting their attack.

The hyennadon takes it in the haunches and barks in pain. The mounted gnoll trows one of those stingchucks at Gnasher as the two unmounted beasts rush forward to engage Gnasher (you may take an AoO on cyan since it had to move past the stairs to get into position).

Unable to avoid the attack of the hyaenadon, Gnasher's legs are savaged as he is pulled to the round. Releasing his Bardiche he begins to rage His paws grow into overly large claws, his eyes glow red, his fangs enlarge and he begins to froth at the mouth. While his brown hide takes on a red-orange cast to it, giving a peculiar laugh. Shifting his body on the stairs, he brings both tooth and claw to the under belly of the nearest hyaenadon.

From a prone position, Gnasher is still able to lash out and strike with all three of his sharpies. He not only takes down the injured beast, but he manages to score a nasty one on the mount with the black armor. Urah is not so fortunate and his harmless acid blob harmlessly splashes against the harmless wall. Malgrim, far more experienced with dealing with shifting tactical fields, also scores a nice hit and downs the second hyaenodon.
The mounted gnoll surges forward and strikes with his axe, but misses badly. Provided it even gets past Gnasher's reach.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Do the gnolls happen to have any knives, you can never have too many knives
Releasing the rage, Gnasher stands to his feet. Realizing the wounds on his legs are worse than he thought, "Blast he curses and kicks the dead hyaenodon. "Aaarrrrggghhhh." Quickly regretting his life choice Gnasher draws out his wand, and taps himself. While the healing takes hold, he searches the bodies, then begins to carefully explore the room, noting the 'opening's to the north, he moves counter clock-wise inspecting the pillars on the west, the stairwell on the opposite side of the room and the rubble to the south. As he explores the room he asks, "Could tribe heal Gnashers legs? Still hurt."
I counted Gnasher at -1 when he started combat, took 31 points of damage. Sadly he was not raging when he was attacked. He healed 2 points with the 2 rounds of rage, the wand will heal 10 so at - 20 presently?
Gnasher needs a minute for the wand to finish, so hoping to frisk the gnolls and explore the room we see on the map. Taking 10(19) on perception. He's not leaving the room and if he gets any sense that someone may see him (especially to the west) he will move away. Do the other stairs go up or down?

Malgrim Gryh |

"I can heal Gnasher up, but it will tire me out more. Or is it time to fall back and return in the morning?" Malgrim asks the group as he turns and begins searching the area for anything else of interest.

Tarak Stromblessed |

I … can’t offer a wand until I shift back. I suppose I have 3 shifts now, so I can spare one
At Gnasher and Malgrim’s comments Tarak focuses, snarls, and shifts back into human shape.
Digging through his pouches, Tarak offers up a couple potion bottles and brandishes his wand.
”I have some healing here. No need to turn back yet, if we want to push on. I feel a bit more powerful, I may have a nasty surprise if we find a big room.” he muses with a growing wicked grin.
I have 2 CLW and one CMW potion, plus a full CLW (5/5) wand. We get to magically update purchases after the rest, right? So we might as well use them

miteke |

The room yields nothing interesting. Frisking the bodies yields axes, javelins, studded leather armor, and a few coins, but no daggers. Besides the stairs you came down on, there is an additional flight to the southwest that go even deeper. To the north is the crudely fashioned wooden barricade the gnolls were defending. To the west a dimly lit hall, and to the south mounds of rubble that it is hard to see past.
The math looks good to me, placing Gnasher at -10 HP.

Urah Pyr |

I can top up Gnasher there.
Cure Light wounds 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Urah steps up and offers a healing spell from his hands.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Sorry, I typoed that. He was at -20 and is at -13 now.
Right :) Did the healings cure the non-lethal? I always get confused about that.
Annoyed that he was not able to replenish his supply of knives, Gnasher kicks the last gnoll body that he took. Looking from the pile of rubble to the south, the large hallway to the west, then to the barracked to he north, he points north asking. "Gnolls defending to the North." He looks to the others, thinking of the lizard king. "Enemy of tribe enemy friend?" Looking at Urah, he asks. "Firestarter willing to talk?"
Picking up his Bardiche he squeeze's through the barricade heading north, keeping a keen eye out as he goes.
Again taking 10(19) on perception

Urah hastily accepts the proffered wands and potions.
Gnasher's questions confuses him.
"Talk? Talk to who?" he pauses.
"If you mean the trogs, they might turn on us next if they think they can get away with it, in my little opinion."

miteke |

Did the healings cure the non-lethal? I always get confused about that.
Normally you cure 1 NL with every normal HP cured (or vice versa), but burn is an odd animal. Basically they wanted a kineticist to have to pay for their abilities by taking damage, but what is the fun in that if they can get all that damage back with a heal stick? That would make the cost virtually irrelevant at any level beyond 3rd. So they stuck in a little caveat that you can not use magical healing to heal burn damage. You MUST rest to get that NL damage back. That way it is more in line with spell recovery for other classes. So, if Malgrim's ability allows him to transfer the burn cost to you, then you are in the same straights as he is when he takes burn and you will need rest in order to get rid of that HL damage. It's actually an interesting mechanic. Sort of like a mana pool that affects your HP.
After Tarak's flurry of wand strikes, Gnasher is feeling a lot better and is at -2 HP. He slips through the barricade after asking Urah about diplomacy, who is faced with his broad back when he tries to understand the point of talking to... well, whoever. Ghasher sees a rough hewn hallway stretching out before him.
Remember that these dang squares are 10' in width, not 5'.
Gnasher can hear roaring and howling off in the distance. Someone or something is kicking up a fuss.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Cool, that make sense
Hearing the sound of roaring and howling, Gnasher gives a toothy grin. Turning back towards Urah, he points towards the rough hewn hallway, "Gnasher talking about them. Come Firestarter let us go make new friend."
Waiting for the others to cross beyond the barricade, he continues towards the loud noises.

Malgrim Gryh |

Malgrim follows silently along behind the large gnoll.

Tarak Stromblessed |

Tarak follows in his customary position, now in human form … for the time being.
apologies, thought I had posted tonight but realize I didn’t in my debate whether or not to shift or stay human. How does everyone feel about another large teammate (next to Gnasher) because I can shift to Dire Tiger now. Not an insignificant boost to potential damage, if a little squishy, with pounce and rake. But it IS another large character, which can get tricky inside.

Malgrim Gryh |

Tigers are great and since Miteke is using the 3.0 rules for large animals, you will not really take up much more room and I should be able to lob shots over you with ease. But you will take more damage if you do not invest in fighting defensively or more AC items.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

How does everyone feel about another large teammate (next to Gnasher) because I can shift to Dire Tiger now. Not an insignificant boost to potential damage, if a little squishy, with pounce and rake. But it IS another large character, which can get tricky inside.
if space is limited, Gnasher can stay normal size, he'd do less damage but get an extra AOO from combat reflex's (higher dex) so it's not a bad trade off.
Grinning a toothy grin as the others pass through the barricade, Gnasher continues carefully moving down the cave like tunnel.
Just some fluff:)
