So there are plenty of spots that they pop up in, just be mindful that there are some GMs that do not care for them and may make friendly challenging remarks about them. Though I've yet to see any 'focused-fire' efforts against kitsune, though...

Ha! Forgot ISR. There's also the brand new Blood of the Beast coming up, but that would be for kitsune add-ons rather than for the race itself.

Thanks both of you. Why do some GMs not like Kitsune? They aren't more powerful than any other race, nor do they have any powerful options I know of.

Kitsunes are my favorite Pathfinder race, but I only have one of them in PFS so far. Most GMs I've seen welcome them though a few are wary. I still need to arrange the all kitsune adventure sometime... I had such a blast with my all-tengu experiment!

One GM local to me doesn't like kitsunes because he's seen some players with... er... kinky tendencies play them. There was a guy who literally kept licking himself at the table. We had to have a little chat with him about when roleplay goes from creative to inappropriate!

In my experience, a lot of Society GM's just got tired of seeing so darn many of them since they were legal last season. I never experienced any "kitsune hate" but I did see a lot of eye rolling. Same thing happened with tieflings and aasimar when they were legal too.

I don't know why though. Just because you see a lot of a certain race doesn't mean they are at all alike. PFS has a glorious way of promoting people to play characters that are more interesting, and not so much completely optimized. I've seen a ton of "exotic" races and they were almost all different in one way or another. At least, where I play my home games and on pbp here anyway. Your mileage may vary.

True, whenever a race becomes legal everyone makes a new character. I've played plenty of video games where a new character shows up and suddenly everyone has one. I guess it breaks "reality" when an extremely rare race becomes common.

A special snowflake syndrome, like the army of Drizzt clones that appeared back in my 3.0 days.

? Retail Worker/12

Despite my army of tengu (they account for about half my PFS characters, for example) I haven't seen a lot of them around, and more than one at a table is an extreme rarity (In something like forty tables played, it's happened three times, I think.)

Venture Captain, Play-by-Post "Doom Girl" // PbP Events // PBP Gameday VIII Player Signups // PbP GM Kit // Aeon Throne MapsPlayer Folder // Pact World Warriors //

Kitsunes are not that common in my area. I've only played once where I had another kitsune at the table. I think that the commonness of races varies from region to region. Right now in my area the elementals are all the rage.

Kitsune and tiefling never bothered me because I guess I only ran into them once in a while but I got really sick of aasimars a few years ago. Maybe it was just my local area back then but it seemed everyone had an aasimar paladin or cleric and they were all pretty much the same. And it was also clear that most of those people were only playing them for their obvious stat power for those classes.

But in general I have no problem with other races. I actually think the new system of releasing a few different races each season works nicely.

Although I've yet to find anyone else with a dhampir character. I guess I got lucky winning that boon years ago.

I've seen a dhampir character here on the boards, but I don't remember if I wound up in a game with him or not. I did play with an oread once, before they were legal. Generally, the races that are boon-only are very rare (and sort of a treat to run across, IMO). Of the legal races, kitsunes became very common when they were made available. Tengus less so. I've yet to see a single wayang in PFS that I can recall, which is sort of odd because they have great stats. Maybe people are turned off by the fact that they're not a pretty race haha.

Venture Captain, Play-by-Post "Doom Girl" // PbP Events // PBP Gameday VIII Player Signups // PbP GM Kit // Aeon Throne MapsPlayer Folder // Pact World Warriors //

Cartmanbeck has a dhampir named Balon. I enjoyed GMing for him.

I missed aasimars when they were first legal, but I've gone collecting aasimar boons since then. I really like the flavor of the weirder heritages. At some point I'm going to make a Peri aasimar for PFS so that everyone can see my hair catch fire.

My only current Aasimar character is Doom Girl, a mysterious avenger Swashbuckler with dual identities. She's great fun. I love being a superhero, and love rping the secret identity schtick.

Have to get Bjorn 'The Librarian' Frostmane -- have to find a good Finnish translation for it rolling soon.

Mooncursed barbarian

Need to get an aasimar to build my ganzi, but don't have any myself, missed the craze and glad for it.

I've seen about a half-dozen wayang, though...

If you play in a society sanctioned game you need the resources, but if you really have an itch there are a lot of non-society games (no PFS credit) or campaigns that are played in 'campaign' mode (with PFS credit) that do not need to be played by the strict rules. The latter is very hard to come by though and I don't know what the restrictions are for a 'campaign' mode game.

Venture Captain, Play-by-Post "Doom Girl" // PbP Events // PBP Gameday VIII Player Signups // PbP GM Kit // Aeon Throne MapsPlayer Folder // Pact World Warriors //

Campaign mode is harder to find because they're only really available for Adventure Paths and the longer 64 page modules. Basically, to get Campaign mode, you have to commit to running the whole thing with the same group. So a minimum of three module-length adventures is required, and generally speaking for something that length I'd want to hand pick the group or run a recruitment.

I think that's why you don't see them turn up very often in Flaxseed.

I've got a wayang illusionist from back when they were boon-only and pretty rare.

Also the Flaxseed Lodge is geared towards PFS recruitment. I don't disallow non-PFS recruitment but it just doesn't happen much. The regular recruitment page is the place to go, although I'd be wary unless you really know the GM. For APs it seems only a small percentage make it past the first book and maybe less than 1% finish the whole AP. Just an estimate but probably depressingly accurate. I'm about to finish my second PbP AP and both took a little over three years. It's a big commitment and I don't know that I'd be willing to make that commitment again, to be honest.

Whenever I get a boon I make a character for it. Otherwise I make new PCs as inspiration strikes.

I have to say after struggling for a while to come up with a concept for my grippli boon I just got I'm really itching to play it.

Yeah, I heard they're the new GM boon race for November through January, so we should see a lot more of them soon. Gripplis were the GM boon race for August through October, including our PBP game day, so expect to see a lot of them in the very near future. I have 3 of those, just due to timing of local cons and GMing PBP for the first time in the game day. I'll probably miss getting a dhampir, due to lack of local cons in this time period.

Well that figures. I was really hoping to get a dhampir boon, but next local con is in February.

The "problem" I've seen with kitsune is their Disguise modifiers. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it is possible for a 3rd- or 4th-level kitsune to take 10 and get a result around 50 (for humans that they've met before). That can seriously derail a scenario.

I've been lucky in that the PFS module games I've been in have run smoothly. I'm in one that started with Crypt of the Everflame and went into Mask of the Living God, then Fangwood, and then after that we're doing another that comes after Mask (I think, I just know that Fangwood is being used to level is up for the next module) and it's going swimmingly. I also just finished playing through a Dragon's Demand that went extremely well and experienced no lulls or player drop. As far as non-society AP's, I've seen my fair share fall of and die, but my favortite one (a skull and shackles) has been going strong for a few years now. We've had some player drops and we're on our third GM, but so far so good. I expect we'll finish it sometime around 2020.

And I really, really hope the GM boon for Shifty's game is a dhampir. I want that boon something fierce. If anyone wants to trade one, PM me because I have an ifrit boon, a suli boon, and a sylph boon available for trade. Also I may still have an oread boon laying around somewhere. I haven't checked in ages.

I have a Kitsune, and have played with a number of Kitsunes, Wayangs, and Tengus. I have never seen any discrimination at any table I have been at against any of these.

Seems to me that a Dhampir would be a difficult character to really play within PFS, with their tendency towards evil and the severe reactions the general populous would have. I think it would be great to play at a home table with a bit more freedom and a chance to really get into character though.

Other than the scarcity, what do yall see as the draw/advantages to a Dhampir within the Society?

I have collected an Aasimar and now a Grippli boon, but do not currently have any plans to use them. As was mentioned above, I really don't want to go the stereotypical divine warrior Aasimar. I have yet to come up with a concept for the Grippli, but see that ending in a stereotype as well..

Lantern Lodge

I don't see a Dhampir being any harder on the general population than a half orc - apart from their rarity. That might almost make them less subject to discrimination - at least in Absalom. Ustalav might be a different kettle of fish.

As for tendency to evil... a lot of pathfinders seem to have that :-)

As to advantages... if you were going to explore an old ruin that was likely to be infested with undead, then someone who was not quite so subject to negative energy issues would be a good person to have along.

I've seen a number of all those other races both with tables I've played at and GMed.

Maybe its just me, but I have noticed a number of scenarios lately that seem to actively discourage this, and reward the PC's for NOT murder-hobo'ing the scenario. These moral conundrums seem to always catch me by surprise, but in a good way. I appreciate not only the plot twist, but the emphasis.

Sep-Nov would probably be idea, Dec - Jan can get bloody hot, and then Feb-Apr you can expect a fair bit of rain for days on end.

It always rains over Easter, and whatever weekend the Mardi Gras is on in Sydney you can always bet on rain.

Temps are always fairly decent/warm outside the middle of winter or middle of Summer.

This is all based on a New South Wales worldview....

Queensland - It's up north, and its our version of the US South. Too hot and too humid. Features the 'Gold Coast' which is a tasteless and gaudy affair filled with theme parks and way too many recreational drugs and ridiculously over the top parties. Lots of good looking people. The sort of place you go for a bucks night/stag do.

Victoria - They're south of us, and the weather is subject to interference by random winds coming up from Antarctica. Good cafes. some excellent restaurants, and a somewhat pretty city. Saying you are from Melbourne gets eyerolls in polite company because everybody knows that a (misplaced) opinion of how amazing their city is will certainly be following - they think they are the most 'European', but frankly it's full of beardy hipsters on bicycles drinking overpriced coffee in questionable establishments. Nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live there (again)

Tasmania - Top place, take a jacket. A teeny island/state just off the mainland. Pristine and beautiful, and worth a visit - though most people won't (their loss!). It is frequently cold in Tassie, and the environment is still green and rugged - it's like going back to some frontier from the way back. The men here all have hispter beards too because they have always had them but for realsies - they are manly manly lumberjack men. The people are friendly, the dairy products are amazing (world class) in fact it is a foodlovers gem. Cannot recommend high enough. Probably rubbish for a golf game.

South Australia - City of churches. Still think they are part of England. Total mismatch of women to men (a lot more women in Adelaide than men by miles). Another beautiful postcard city and also worth a visit. Unfortunately, Adelaide is also (I kid you not) the hottest city on the planet - take asbestos underpants and all the sunblock you can find. Outside of the city limits are a ton of Germans who migrated in the wayback and recreated old school Germany and a pile of world class vineyards. Go to the vineyards. Drink the wine, Be amazed. Also eat all their German sausages etc. Most of the rest of the state is a spectacular desert. Do you like sand? Also, there are some great water views down towards Port Lincoln which is the home of many burly types with grand fishing boats... mostly for tuna. A lot of people love to surf the great waves at the nice beaches. Sadly, all that tuna has attracted hordes of GREAT WHITE SHARKS - you know, Jaws was not all that interesting to Australians, especially from Adelaide - it was a documentary about what happens when the surfers go out during Tuna season. Play golf. Dont surf.

West Australia - Yeah Perth, full of 'fly in fly out' miners who are riding the crazy joy of the resources boom. Everything costs way too much, but it is the front door to the Kimberley Ranges and some of the most beautiful (and horribly deadly) terrain on earth. We train all our Special Forces in WA for a good reason - if you can survive out in that you can survive anywhere on Earth. The people are a bit strange but bear with it because the place is pretty good. It is also a very remote city in that the next real cities are hundreds of kilometres/miles away. Dunno. If you are already going there then it is awesome, and a real destination of its own - but too much for a casual visit. Top points for swimming with Whale Sharks during their migration. Also, those GREAT WHITE SHARKS (handsome primal deathmachines) regularly swim up and down the coast of WA and around to South Australia - except when they aren't swimming over to South Africa and trashing the place - those things are like underwater Vikings.

Northern Territory - Crocodile Dundeeland. The only acceptable pants are shorts and you will be hot and sweaty year round. Has the biggest beer bottles on the planet and is a wild town (it's the heat). Small, but crazy. If you like going hunting and fishing, this is the lace for you - the caveat being that most of the things you are hunting will also have pretty good odds of hunting you back. The crocodiles up there mean business and play for keeps - we only lose a few tourists, but its a small price to pay. Darwin is worth a visit, sure. Full of European backpackers, crazy Australians who though Crocodile Dundee was a role model, and a smackton of US servicemen (Marines).
Not sure about the golf - the number of free roaming gigantic crocodiles put me off the idea.

Australian Capital Territory - Our nation's capital city. Tiny. Great museums and galleries, and frankly I always rate it for a visit. War Memorial a must. Boring as dirt at night as it is full of dull politicians and tired public servants. They have legal marijuana and access to the X-Rated porno supermarket (think Walmart, but for porn and adult toys). There's a reason for that. Still great during the day - for up to 3 days. Avoid mid winter and mid summer. I was out hiking in the hills and we had 5 days in the mid 40 temp range (hotter than the face of the sun).

Let me know if you ever start making plans :p
