PBP is one of the better ways to have Role Playing during PFS games.
I've been slowly getting my physical Chronicle Sheets uploaded into PDF Format, so that everything is in the clear and whatnot.
They are still good to get, so grab one if you can!

That makes six, so we can go ahead and start.
I was planning on using Gary as a GM baby, but I think I'll do that with a wizard..... Yup, core rules only. Hopefully Gary will live long enough to be a cleric, haha.

I dont have a core character so im dotting for non core games. I have characters from 1-9 will check back to see if more games open.
You'll want to watch the Gameplay thread; that's where most of the recruiting happens. It's easier that way because once you post in the Gameplay thread for the Flaxseed Lodge it will show up as a campaign on the Campaign tab of your profile and you will see whenever someone posts something new.

WAIT, Tengus are free to play right now?!
Yes. We are *FREE*. Sing forth the song of Liberty and visit the gift of emancipation upon our brethren! Let their stories be told!
*coughs*
Sorry about that. But assuredly, yes, tengu. The word is the bird.

Will Kitsune and Nagaji still be available after July?

I don't think it has been announced yet. My guess is that they will. Aasimar and tie fling were legal for two years so expect it to be a two year rotation. Just speculation though.

I have played pbp's for quite a while now on the paizo forums, and I only just signed up for society today. I downloaded the society guide, and I'm making a swashbuckler for my first society character. My questions are these:
--What is a good set of scenarios to start off with?
--How do I find a group for someone just starting society play?
--When it says two traits, can one be a trait from an ap, such as the sword scion trait from kingmaker?
--Doesna character have to start at level one, and play through to a higher level, or could I make a character at a higher level and start off in a higher scenario?
--Is there anything special I need to do/have to play pbp society?
If anyone could help, I'd be really appreciative. I might even bake you some e-cookies.
:)

For traits, I believe AP traits aren't allowed for society play. The Google sheets at the top of this recruitment are a good way to sign up, and dotting in the discussion tab will let you know when someone makes a new post. That itself makes it great for looking for games to join up on.
For PFS, it's always best to have an updated inventory tracking sheet, which is free, and both a physical and digital copy of the chronicles you obtain. When making a character, always keep an eye on the additional resources page, as new errata is introduced with newer content.
As for good scenarios, it is really a crapshoot for me. I've had cakewalk scenarios at levels 3-5 while also had things that could have ended in a TPK because of party make up.
Also, when you play/gm you can get special boons to play as races that normally aren't legal to play. I will be uploading my chronicles tonight for this character after work, in which you will have an example of what the race boons look like.

No campaign traits are allowed in PFS. Also Rich Parents and few others aren't allowed either. If you have any question as to whether a specific trait (or any given character option) is legal in PFS, check the Additional Resources page.
Every PFS character must start at level 1,but which scenarios you play are up to you. Keep in mind that most scenarios are playable only once, no matter how many characters you have. The Confirmation is one exception to this, and makes for a good starting point, but really you can start any old place and you'll be fine.

In addition to The Confirmation, there's The Wounded Wisp, First Steps part 1, and We be Goblins!, as they are considered "evergreen" scenarios.

That is generally true. In a few cases a chronicle reward can be applied to any of your characters. It will say so explicitly if true, and these are the exception. Definitely the GP and XP only go to who played it.

Awesome. You guys have been super helpful. I'll probably finish up my first society character tonight and start looking for a game.
EDIT: Last question. I have a tiefling monk/ninja character I made a long time ago that I would love to bring into society play. So, I know I need a beast token to play as a tiefling, so where/how do I get one? Is there a specific scenario or are they awarded randomly or something?
GM Derek W |
To add to that, race boons are often awarded to convention GM's. The play by post gamedays qualify.
I've personally received Ifrit and Oread boons. With Tiefling being legal once, I wouldn't expect to see that one for awhile. But I am definitely not in the know.
Also, you must own the resource.the race comes from. For many this is the Advanced Race Guide. Not a big hurdle, but it's one I've personally never got around to getting so my race boons sit idle or get traded/given away.

Reposting this for all the new people who have been stopping by:
Hello everyone!
This is not a recruitment for any particular game and recruitment is generally not done in this recruitment thread but rather the Gameplay thread of the Flaxseed Lodge and on the spreadsheets linked above.
Please check into the Gameplay thread for this campaign (above) and hang out at the Lodge if you are interested in watching out for new PFS PbP games. (Please try to keep the Gameplay thread in character as much as possible).
How does it work?
There are signup spreadsheets for several GMs linked at the top where you can sign up for PFS games. Generally when the games are ready to start the GM will either send out PMs to the players or make an announcement in the Lodge. If you are a GM and would like me to add your signup sheet to the top, send me the link. Alternatively, feel free to use the Lodge to recruit for your own games.
Why should I post in the Gameplay thread?
We've got quite a crowd of dedicated PbPers at the Lodge and it has become a convenient hub to watch out for new PFS games; it is far easier to watch the Gameplay thread than to check back and sift through the Recruitment page every day hoping for new PFS games. Once you have posted in the Gameplay thread of the Flaxseed Lodge, the Lodge will show up on the Campaign tab of your profile. This is a much easier way to watch out for new games, as the notifications for posts in the Flaxseed Lodge will show up right next to your other ongoing campaigns.

Heck, maybe it's high time I plunge into one of these PbP groups. Might as well be this one (out of the two I know of...)
A quick rundown of my PbP experience: I've ran two PbPs on Paizo's messageboards (with varying success) and I am running one at the moment. Before that I've held some wiki-based PbPs offsite, with varying degrees of success as well.
Withour further ado, I'll put my head on the line and post on the gameplay tab.

And as a PFS scenario can sometimes take anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on the scenario and the GM, you'll be going for quite a long time without being able to play that character F2F. So if you still play in person, don't lock all of your characters down in PbP games or have a few characters that are dedicated to PbP.
Go here and make a post in the Gameplay thread for this campaign. That will add the Flaxseed Lodge to the "Campaign" tab of your profile, which will make it much easier for you to watch for new games as the new-post notifications will show up there. There are also sign-up sheets where our many talented GMs post games and most of the game announcements are made in the gameplay thread linked above.
