I doubt it would get that bad. So far as I've seen, almost every discussion had in the Lodge is peaceful and diplomatic. Not to mention, there hasn't even been an argumentative post yet, it's just people talking about immigration laws and how hard would it be to move to a different country. Which, if I'm being perfectly honest, has been a thought of mine long, long, before last night.
TL;DR: Stop looking for a fight, and you won't find one.

I wouldn't say the conversation on here so far would qualify as gnashing of teeth. Obviously some are disappointed, but it seems pretty civil-- more like what post-election chatter usually looks like, between otherwise-bland candidates.
Plus, without this thread I wouldn't have known that the Canadian immigration site going down is a normal thing and (possibly) just a hilarious coincidence.
GM Evil |
Eh, games rarely queue up in discussion. If this were the gameplay thread or recruitment I would be equally inclined to start a new thread. This is just a conversation between people who know each other in a thread for general discussion. Things like this get posted here because we all know each other and don't want to start a new thread where their friends aren't going to see it.
GM Evil |
That's true but also I'm not the one who started the conversation. I'm just pointing out why those who did so.
And a smaller point would be to say that we never actually spoke about the politics behind the conversation. The conversation was about traveling and immigration. Yes, the factor that started it was political, but that wasn't talked about at all, and imho, seems to have been carefully avoided.
As I said before, I haven't seen a conversation in the Lodge get messy. Every talk I've seen here has been civil and polite.
Just my two cents.

Moving on from that, but in the interest of travel...
For those that haven't heard, PaizoCon Oz this year is being held in neighbouring New Zealand. Why that is important is for three particular words - 'Green Dragon Inn'.
Yes.
Gaming.
In the Shire.
Pathfinder society gaming in the Green Dragon Inn in Hobbiton.

The amount of "I want to be involved in this" is completely overwhelming. If only I could get my ticket to fly there paid for by offering to GM the entire time. :(

Wow, here in New Zealand, awesome...
And finishes on my birthday too. I wonder if I could swing a weekend pass from the family for that...

That would be AWESOME!
But that will have to wait until I win the lottery. :-(

Same. I'm absolutely beyond jealous that this is a thing.

As the owner/maintainer of the Flaxseed Lodge, I'll just say that I try to do as little moderating and policing as possible and so far I have not really had to do any. Everyone here is really great about keeping things civil and organized without me holding everyone's hands and I'm really proud of our community for that.
The Gameplay thread is supposed to be in-character and can include recruitment announcements but should be kept in-character as much as possible.
The Recruitment thread is strictly for recruitment.
The Discussion thread is for anything else. If that happens to be a political discussion, I see no reason to stop it as long as things stay civil. Frankly, there have been some (non-political) off-topic discussions that I didn't care about and didn't want to read... so I didn't read them. I just clicked on the little thing to get rid of the "(# new)" message. So even as the owner of the thread and the PbP Venture Agent I see no reason to stop a discussion as long as it's civil.
Carry on, everyone. You're doing a great job.

EndlessForms quoted me. Does that make me pseudo-famous? Or is it the PBP equivalent of getting a picture with Robert Downey Jr or something?

Shifty, how hard is it to get Pathfinder books in Australia? I mean actual books, which I prefer to PDFs.
Also, we still haven't heard from the DM who was running the adventure my Monk's in. I'd appreciate it if you could step in now.
I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
I'll drop by again, your guys last time said they had the scenario sorted??
We're a gnat's eyebrow away from finishing, apparently - but we haven't finished yet, and the DM hasn't showed up in weeks.
I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
Dead easy to get the books, plenty of venues.
I only ask because Paizo's an American company, and Australia's so remote. How do they avoid deal-breakingly high shipping & handling costs?

Congrats on the star Shifty! Once I'm back to my regular GM'ing capabilities I'm going to try and burn my way there as well. It's a heck of a road to get there, for sure.

It's nine o'clock in our Flaxseed Lodge
The regular crowd shuffles in
There's a ninja sitting next to me
With an aussie drawl and a bigass grin
He says, "Mate, can you join us in a PbP?
I'll show you all how it goes
For it's full and replete with villains to defeat
Leave behind your real life woes!"
La la la, di da da
La la, di da da da dum
Write us a post, you're the PbP man
Write us a post tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a PbP
And you've got us feelin' alright
Now Shifty at the Lodge is a friend of mine
(His name is really Nik B.)
And he's quick with a joke he’s a really great bloke
With games past one hundred fifty
He says, “It’s time this place recognized me!”
As he posted with his rapid fire pace
“Well I’m sure I could be a five star
If I could get my last special in place!”
Oh la la la, di da da
La la, di da da da dum
Now it’s time for Tonya’s announcement
(Really, I need a real life)
And she says that our Shifty really is Nifty
He’s our Five Star wielding a knife
Now Shifty doesn’t practice politics
A Venture Ninja with no title of his own
But we’re sharing a drink with him nonetheless
In honor of the love that he’s shown
Write us a post you’re the PbP man
Write us a post tonight
Well we’re all in the mood for a PbP
And you’ve got us feelin’ alright
It’s a pretty good crowd in our Flaxseed Lodge
And we all give Shifty a smile
‘Cause we know it’s Nik B. we’ve been coming to see
To forget about life for a while
And our varied games make up a carnival
Of conviviality and cheer
And we sit at the bar as Shifty gets his last star
And say “Man, what are you doing here?”
Write us a post you’re the PbP man
Write us a post tonight
Well we’re all in the mood for a PbP
And you’ve got us feelin’ alright
___
And now it’s official. Congratulations on that fifth star, Shifty!

Thanks Hmm!
Thanks guys :)
It's a lot of fun!
....too much PbP, almost up to 30,000 posts!
I'm in the middle of organising another Con for Feb 17, and have a suspicion I need to have a plan to put one together for April as well.
There is also wild crazy talk of running a charity fundraiser event that would be a 'rather famous deadly scenario' being run simultaneously in a couple of capital cities with the maps being made up 3d - and you get to keep the room you die in! Coordinating the GM's in each city in Australia is a bit of a challenge, but yeah why not eh?
On that note....
Blood under Absalom is looking good for January, I had a rapid response from the GM's, and that is well in hand (with a couple more to contact) and so the official 'call' will go out this weekend and we can start sign-ups pretty quickly.
GM Z..D.. |
I sent her a PM since she is in a game I am running, and have yet to get a response.
Zavita |
We also have a game she was running for Gameday V. However, I doubt we will finish before the gameday ends, but will really appreciate if some one could stop in with us.
It is for Labryinth of the Hungry Ghost

Zavita,
I can take over. However I am traveling at the moment, arriving home late on Friday. First update will therefore probably be in the weekend. I assume you can wait the few extra days.
