![]() Here's my character submission, Ommerra. Ommerra's background and description: Ommerra's earliest memories are hazy, floating in warm water and hearing harsh voices.
As a young girl, she was found on the seashore near Claes by a kindly family of halfling beachcombers, who took her in and cared for her as their own. They discovered that she had an incredible affinity for languages, which they encouraged. As she grew older, her strange origins drove her to question everything and learn as much as she could about the world around her. Her family supported this quality by bringing her books about the history of the lost continent of Azlant, which she would read voraciously before trading back for new ones. Many of these books were fairy tales, others books of facts and famous figures, and some talked about the magic of their ancient bloodlines, or the flora and fauna of the islands that sank into the sea. Last year, one of Ommerra's older adopted siblings joined a government-sponsored expedition to explore and colonize the islands, as a sailor on the ship Peregrine. After returning from delivering the first group of people and supplies, they wrote home to share what they knew. Apparently the sponsors were considering sending a second trip of specialists, and if Ommerra traveled to Almas she could apply for a position. Excited, she put this plan into action, and after an impressive interview she was soon on the open water heading for the Isle of Ancorato. Ommerra has tanned skin and light-colored hair that she dyes blue. She also has vibrant purple eyes that are slightly larger than normal for a human. She dresses in simple travelers' clothes, light and easy to move in. There is an indefinably alien quality about her that does not seem quite part of this world. Her enthusiasm is infectious, and her curiosity is nearly boundless. Ommerra's stats: Name Ommerra

Oh, wow, especially since all your attacks are Dex-based, Talented Tie-Up seems absolutely essential! That -4 penalty to all your rolls would sink you otherwise. The character I played a while back with lots of grappling was a White-Haired Witch, which doesn't get the grappled condition when she grabs someone, so I forgot about this. Smart thinking! Grumbaki wrote: Then add “chink in the armor” which just adds an extra attack as a touch attack. Which effectively pushes through more damage. Chink in the Armor is fantastic, and it should work well with your action economy once you've got Champion Strike. Grumbaki wrote: Also inescapable grasp does sound like it’s very IC. I think you are right on dropping gladiator altogether and focusing on wrestling. That looks great! :) ![]()

![]() All right, I've updated the loot sheet and leveled Mahmoud up. I marked the treasures that I imagine we don't want to use as sold, so that we have a sense of how much treasure we have. We have 10,333 gp marked on the coin part of the sheet. I assume that's gold left over from the last time we sold stuff? We will get 14,609 more gp if we sell everything I marked. That is approximately 24,000 gp to divide between the three of us, or about 8,000 gp each. ![]()

![]() At first, Dahlia hesitates for a moment-- her natural inclination to immediately pledge her sword in defense of the innocent tempered somewhat by her being mindful of their mission. She is not sure if her companions will be as willing to leap to Oleg and Svetlana's aid. Then Bertram and Rowan and Squawkowk and Tawneystripe all respond positively, and Dahlia feels reassured. "Of course, master mouse, we are now engaged in your cause. My good right arm is yours for the duration. If we can divide the enemy and catch them unawares, all to the good!" She frowns slightly as the cat seems to advocate for (and even relish) killing the creatures, and she privately hopes that they can avoid wanton murder, though she recognizes that taking captives will be difficult. ![]() I am always up for an epic character building challenge! Kind of late to the party, but I really appreciated Grumbaki's summary of other submissions so far, since it gave me a good place to start from which I could be somewhat confident that I wasn't doing anything too similar to what somebody else was doing. What I settled on building is a kind of dark gish character, a judow legendary fighter // shadow master. The judow race was created by the kytons to fight in their battles, and so I envision this character as someone who was raised by kytons to be a true believer in their sadistic worldview, but once exposed to other perspectives they began to change their mind. Sent to spy on the Shadowed Court, they were first captured and then eventually adopted by the Masters of Vagaries. No longer lawful evil, they now favor a more neutral outlook towards others. Mechanically, my focus is on extreme versatility. I'm thinking of taking the Boon of the Well-Traveled Wanderer (Master of Vagaries 10), the Boon of the Evolution's Chosen (Alacritous CR+2, Savant CR+2, and Shadow-Traced CR+2), and the Archmage Path and Path of the Bound for mythic. GM, are these choices acceptable to you? Also, are you okay with me treating umbral magic like psychic magic for the purposes of integration with Archmage powers and abilities? ![]()

![]() Dahlia trembles with excitement as she waits at the gate with her parents and the collection of gentlemice gathered to greet the new arrivals. She silently marvels at their strange forms of dress and the half-overheard snatches of conversation in their exotic tongues, her mouth involuntarily forming a little 'O' of wonder. With her head bowed in awe, she stares at everything and everyone from the folds of her monk's cowl and listens to the soft and subtle clink of her chain coif as she turns her head this way and that. Then, at the signal, the group makes their way to their place beside one of the long banquet-tables. Her father, Thaddeus Churchmouse, is given a seat of honor for his family and household, due to his standing in the community. He lounges comfortably as they await the festivities, his half-moon glasses sparkling in the fire-light, snacking on cheese and crackers while they wait for the servers to bring the first course. Dahlia's youngest sisters mill and dance about the room behind them, giggling to themselves and occasionally bursting out with gales of laughter. Mrs. Churchmouse sits opposite Dahlia's father, gossiping with Mrs. Gillyweed about the latest scandal concerning Mr. Titmouse and his second wife, seemingly unaware of the behavior of her husband and four daughters. Dahlia loves her parents, but she worries that the lack of a firm hand in her family's upbringing will bring shame upon their name. She especially fears that young Camellia is becoming the most determined flirtmouse ever to rouge her whiskers. Dahlia stands dutifully behind her father, regretting that she must leave them all for now, and soaking up the comforting warmth of their presence as much as she can. She looks over at her eldest sister, Lily, who even at this festive occasion has her nose stuck in the pages of a book-- a dreary tome about the history of the abbey's grain production and developments in seed efficiency. She is only a year behind Dahlia, and takes after their mother's coloring and style of dress more than that of their father. Lily is such a serious maid, she thinks, and it will fall to her to watch over Camellia and Poppy when I am gone. She sighs, resolving to tell them she loves them and will miss them as often as she can before the expedition departs. "I love you papa," she murmurs to him, placing her hand on his shoulder, and he smiles absently and clasps it in his. She smiles at her mother when she catches her eye, and mama smiles back. ![]()

That being said, I do definitely find the idea of her having grown up with a celestial-touched being and not quite having the same abilities. Ooh, also her fears will be interesting to play with if she gets in... Well, while of course I want to maximize my chances to get in, I am actually pleased with how Seannon turned out as a halfling, moreso than if she was aasimar. It could be that she does have some celestial blood, too faint to affect her race, and that it manifests instead through her oracle class abilities rather than through her ancestry. If she gets in the game and it should happen to come up-- like, say, devils and other evil outsiders recognize that she has the stink of Elysium about her-- I would be very happy to play that out. For her fears, I tried to come up with several broad ones and one specific one (that seems likely to come up at least occasionally from Proclamation the Third in the Player's Guide). I know halflings are supposed to be Fearless, but I traded that racial trait away. ;) Anyway, hopefully there are lots of levers here for you to pull-- I want her to be very easy to draw into conflicts, but I don't mind playing that she's terrified about it the whole time. ![]()

![]() Unlikely Mahmoud will beat that roll! :) Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 Well how about that? Mahmoud studies the tracks next to Tribim. Together they meet each other's eyes and look forward to see where the tracks lead. Gesturing with a finger to his lips, Mahmoud suggests that they try to proceed quietly. ![]() GM, do you have any general thoughts on the flaws that players have come up with? Like, are we more or less hitting what you hoped for in that character feature? I guess you'll probably get into more detail with the players who have characters selected, but if you're willing to say more about what you had in mind, I suspect all of our applications could benefit. :) ![]()

![]() Nibs slinks into the carriage with his familiar and his eidolon hovering around him seemingly for protection, and has obvious trepidation about the journey as his fur is ruffled and trembles as they start moving. He alternates between watching the others and what he can see of the view out the windows. He looks back as introductions are made, and sighs to himself. In answer to Felix he says "You could call us 'furries'?" His eidolon snickers again, and he bares his teeth slightly as a sort of half-smile. "We usually simply say 'ratfolk'-- either plural or singular-- and ignore the grammatical problems that causes. It's better than 'vermen' or 'ratmen'. If you really want to impress us for some reason, use 'people'." Later, he continues. "I suppose in the interest of our new partnership, I should present the rest of my little coterie. As a ratfolk, I am always more comfortable in a swarm, so to speak. My eidolon, who I often refer to as my valet, is named Jacques." (pronounced zhock) He points to the otherworldly creature that looks almost a twin of Nibs, who bows floridly. Then Nibs indicates the rat next to him that is slightly bigger than he is. "And this stalwart creature is Bower." Bower doesn't bow. Finally, Nibs looks around at the group through narrowed eyes. "Do you want me to use your titles when I address you, milords and miladies, or may I use a more familiar mode when we are alone? Also, should I pretend I can't hear you when you're whispering to each other?" ![]()

![]() Mahmoud looks sideways at Tribim, trying to keep his eyes from widening in surprise, and does his best to simply look menacing instead. He analyzes the spirit from a tactical perspective, trying to think what he could do to fight an enemy without a body to pierce. O Pharasma, he silently prays, let my friend's unorthodox methods succeed, will You not? May he lead this lost soul, if that is what it is, to the waters of the afterlife peacefully, with Your grace. ![]()

![]() Do you want us to make up our family crests? If so, I guess Nibs's sigil would have six tails knotted in the middle on a gray field with a golden crown just above the knot. His particular device would probably have the crown in black rather than gold. The Rat King is known for overseeing the underworld, such as it is, and mostly trades in secrets. It is said that agents of the Rat King can hear everything that is going on in the realm, and sell this valuable information to the highest bidder. They are not generally considered nobles in the same category as those in the human realm, and the Rat King is very sensitive about that. To prove that he is just as capable of fulfilling noble obligations, he has sent his sixth son Nibs to represent him on this little mission. ![]()
![]() I had noticed that you didn't have any Ratfolk submissions and since you said specifically they were allowed it made me think that you probably have some interesting lore regarding their involvement in your story. Anyway, I put together a fighter//summoner ratfolk character earlier this week here: "Nibs" that I was going to substitute for my investigator//shifter. If it's not too late, maybe you'll consider him? I didn't really do much background for him yet but I figured I could add it later. ![]()
