I see that dominate person, while super-powerful, has some annoying limitations. :)

Casting it is a 1 round action. Not just a full round, but like enlarge person or summon spells for casters who don't have the summoner ability, they have to stand there casting while everyone else takes their turn. That is a huge liability for casting it in combat! Maybe Merkondus has a quickening diamond metamagic gem? That would let him cast it as a swift action, and doesn't give us extra treasure. He could have had it in his other hand all along, in case of emergency.

It looks like giving a command to a dominated subject is a move action, not a free action. I think that means that Merkondus can't start a new bard song and give Jack an order in the same turn, unless he cast it as a swift and uses his standard to start a new song. I'm not sure what happens if he successfully casts dominate person but doesn't give any orders, but I imagine it just looks like a confused subject who rolled "act normally" on the dice. (Maybe OotS-style swirling eyes? It's only a DC 15 Sense Motive to recognize the subject is dominated.)

Also, forcing a subject to take actions "against its nature" gives the subject another save with a +2 bonus on the roll. What is against Jack's nature is up to you, but I'd suggest that ordering him to attack Henrika (at least) would qualify.

Of course it's your prerogative if you want to change anything about how the spell works for this encounter or in general, for dramatic effect or whatever. I just looked it up to remind myself what to expect, and thought I would share my findings. :)

Oops. I missed that it was a round to cast. He won’t be able to do that then. I’ll pick a different spell for him to cast in my next post.

Xallis, I just realized, are you wielding the Standard of Conquest relic that you took? You have to hold it in a hand for it to work. Do you plan to hold it all the time or only sometimes?

If you are holding it, I'll have to remember the bonuses that it gives out. At the moment, it could be giving everyone +2 morale bonus on saves and a +5 ft. movement bonus.

That could make Henrika's save against the crushing despair a pass. But not Jack's. I'm not going back to previous rounds to check.

Of course Henrika would stand for Malphene, and Jack would happily serve as a groomsman.

GM: Can I change the latest mesmerist trick that Henrika chose? I think she is likely to need Gift of Will more than Astounding Avoidance for the time being. Mesmeric Mirror is nice, but Jack is pretty vulnerable to enchanters, so she'll keep GoW implanted in him from now on. ;)

With our recent treasure injections, it looks like it's time to upgrade Henrika's armor. It looks like each PC should get about 14,500 gp if we sell everything we have marked.

I'd like to purchase a suit of celestial armor. Is this available? This costs 22,400 gp. Henrika is willing to sell off her +3 leather lamellar armor to make up some of the difference, but this still leaves her about 3,000 gp short. Is anyone willing to loan her the difference?

If she can't find it for sale or commission it in Yanmass, I will probably have to put it off until we return to Oppara.

Yanmas Magic Items

Minor: 4d4 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 3) = 11
Medium: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 2, 3) = 7
Major: 1d6 ⇒ 5

During your downtime, Yanmass has:
(11) minor items of value between 0 to 7,999 gp.
(7) medium items of value between 8,000 to 29,999 gp.
(5) major items of 30,000+

You're sell list looks good. So everyone gets 14,481 gold and 6 silver.

Yes, Henrika can buy the celestial armor if she can afford it. It would be one of the (7) medium items available.

If Trevor wants to have this wedding in Oppara, at the beginning of Book 4, you return to Oppara, so that would be a good time to do it.

You are almost done with Book 3. Once you deal with the cult and rescue Carrius or find out what his deal is, that's all that's left.

I'm looking through the treasure and see a few more things you might want to sell. I'm not checking any off. You can decide.

Henrika
Henrika has a circlet of persuasion and a headband of alluring charisma +2. She can only wear one, so sell the other.

She has a masterwork longsword on her list. She doesn't need this anymore.

Trevor
Trevor has a ring of protection +1 and a ring of protection +2. Sell the +1.

Malphene
Malphene has a +1 longsword and a masterwork longsword. Sell the masterwork longsword.

Tychus
Tychus has a ring of protection +1 and a ring of protection +2. Sell the +1.

Does Tychus still want his +1 handaxe if he has a +1 flaming scimitar?

Party
Scour is a drug. Probably get rid of it.

The circlet of persuasion takes up the head slot, not the headband slot. I know it seems weird, but that's what the rules say. Unless you want to change it?

I marked the things you suggested for sale. Weirdly, both masterwork longswords had 0 for the sell price, so I manually entered 157.5 for each. All those things sold would yield 3,908 gp or an additional 781.6 gp each.

Meanwhile, managing money. I actually fell behind around when the party was buying death insurance, so it's time to update the coffers and do some window shopping on Archives of Nethys...

Henrika wrote:

No, I'm not changing it. That's fine then.

Selling the other items, as Henrika said, everyone can add an additional 781 gold and 6 silver to their characters.

Oh, Henrika, and everyone else, remember when you defeated the bandits, Yanmass reduced taxes for the next 60 days to stimulate trade which earned you a 10% discount on purchases. This is still in effect for anything anyone wants to buy now. Actually, I just did the math of the dates and at the end of this downtime it will be exactly 30 days from that discount starting, so there is 30 days remaining afterwards. This only applies to Yanmass though. So once you leave back to Meratt, Oppara, etc. that's it.

So the celestial armor's cost is reduced to 20,160 gp, instead of 22,400 gp. So does that plus the extra 781 gp give you enough to cover it?

Ooo, that helps! I'm still about 70 gp short, but that seems perfectly doable. I'm sure someone will cover Henrika for that much. Otherwise, I can sell her amulet of natural armor +2 for the remainder, but I'd rather not.

I combed through the treasure list again, and marked a few things I missed before: mostly scrolls and potions that I think we're unlikely to ever use. Those would add another 292.5 gp for everyone if no one objects, bringing the total cut to 15,555.7 gp each.

Speaking purely mechanically, I think an enchanted breastplate is better for Trevor, because he has medium armor proficiency, which Henrika doesn't. So enchanting a breastplate is cheaper for the same armor bonus. But, I don't see any way for a breastplate to get the ability to cast fly 1/day. Of course Trevor can always just cast air walk if he needs aerial mobility. :)

Yes, the subtle slippers would take 6 days to complete, and you have 14 days downtime, so Xallis can definitely make them.

The +2 mithril chain shirt is fine too.

Surprise round is only a single standard action, right? Swift, too?

EDIT: Nope, looks like just one standard or move action and any number of free actions. Please disregard Henrika's and Jack's swift actions; I'll do them on their turns.

Yes, a surprise round is a single standard or move action. I can’t find anything in the rules about swift action but I’ll allow it.

Apologies for being MIA for the past 2 days. Been a very busy few days. Catching up on stuff now.

Ok. I was starting to work on a post but I'll wait if you are posting now. I moved your token forward for the surprise round. That's all I did.

Oh and I was looking at your character sheet to post and I’m sure I’ve asked this before, but can you remind me where the +16 damage on the crossbow comes from? I see you get +7 from crossbow training for your Dex. And +3 from the weapon enhancement bonus. What gives the other +6?

I believe that should be from Deadly Aim.
