That's a relief! Sorry for the slow posting on my part, by the way! I had a picket line to march in and rainwater leaking into my basement bedroom from under my wall again.
Hello there, apologies for butting in so promptly, but it seems you guys are missing yourselves a mystic. Your boss over there and others have been calling me UJ (even though I usually prefer s different screename), and Ill be coming in... Whenever he feels is a good point for that, I suppose.
I'm playing an SRO called Soundbyte of Sunlight, a devout of Sarenrae who's not one you'd consider much of a great talker, but he's an expert on mystics and a pretty decent pilot to boot. Looking forward to interact with all of you.

Something I've been curious about for awhile. I came in at level 3, yet all of you still read as level one. Did you guys not update your sheets or am I mssing something here?
Funny thing you mention that, I was going to have them level before entering the facility but the topic is at hand so...
Bravo and Krizen, advance to level two.
Soundbyte, I must’ve made a mistake somewhere along the way, you should have been level two. In the process of helping to help my grandparents move, plan a birthday party, and recruit a new player, I guess that slipped through the cracks.

Stellar Revelation: Gravity Boost
You can increase or reduce the gravitational attraction between yourself and the terrain around you. You can add a bonus equal to one-third your solarian level (minimum +1) to Athletics checks to climb, jump, or swim as part of the action you take to attempt the skill check. In addition, as a reaction when you are falling, you can reduce the falling damage you take by half. At 6th level, you can move along vertical surfaces and even upside down along ceilings for 1 round. This functions as spider climb, but it leaves your hands free and you can also run. You must end your movement on a surface that can support you normally. If you end your movement while you are standing on a vertical surface or ceiling, you fall unless you succeed at an Athletics check to climb to remain in position.
When you are attuned or fully attuned, the bonus you gain from this revelation to checks to climb, jump, or swim doubles.

Any of you folks played Warframe? Was wondering if I might get some Starfinder inspiration from it...and it IS free.
I’ve played a decent amount of Warframe. Though it isn’t my absolute favorite game, I sank quite a few hours into it before I realized that, in a large part due to the general aesthetic being quite good. Deteriorating nations of clones, sinister megacorps, a beauty-obsessed fallen empire and the obligatory hive-mind swarm.
I’d be lying if I said that the Grineer weren’t one of the most interesting ideas for a sci-fi nation I’ve seen.

The holographic image of Guidance, the AI who runs most day-to-day operation of the society, appears on your commlink, her smooth and calming voice saying, ”Attention Starfinders, a spacecraft of unknown design has been discovered in the Diaspora, likely of pre-Gap origin. Interested agents must report to Historia-7 at the archives of the Lorespire Complex.”
The Mission:
Investigate the spacecraft for the Starfinder Society, bring back any data you can recover, and if possible, ascertain the origin of said spacecraft. Each agent will be paid 600 credits and any ownership of any artifacts deemed non-essential by the Society.
Character Creation:
The game is, as the opening blurb suggests, is Starfinder. Characters will start at level one with the standard point buy and 1000 credits. I’ll allow any Paizo official material, and 3rd party material on a case-by-case basis, with the caveat that a source for it must be provided so I can review it. Any race is allowed, though the less common the race, the better the explanation for why they’re in the game I’ll expect. That said, I am much more interested in a character’s story than their numbers, so I will pick a well-made and flavorful character over a statistical beast any day. Another note, players will get the most out of the experience if they have played, run, or at least are familiar with the Iron Gods adventure path, though it isn’t a requirement.
The Setting:
The setting, as mentioned before, is Starfinder, with all the variety that comes with. Characters are new members of the Starfinder society, and the game begins on Absalom Station.
If anyone has questions, I am more than happy to answer them. Recruitment will be open until at least the 10th and I’m looking for between four and six players.
GM, question, Are you open to brewing up some laser-type sniper rifles? I would like to go down the sniper route on my character but the lack of laser weaponry saddens me. On top of the fact that I'd already be sicking a lot of resources into what seems rather a sub-optimal weapon choice.
Before I go any further with the sniper thing, will there be times where I can set up to use the range? Either as overwatch, (so, at least 300ft away from the combat) or the like?
as an aside, I'm thinking a technomancer actually would fit my original idea better. Depending on other party members I'll decide on whether or not to go down operative or technomancer.
rorek55:
I don’t believe there’ll be too many opportunities for incredibly long range combat. That said, if you really want to make a sniper, build it as you normally would and if you’re accepted we can work something out.
SnowHeart:
However long you need to give me a sense of your character.
rutaskadis:
It’ll be at least the length of two books of an AP, though the structure of the game could allow for a longer game.
Interesting! I've been wanting to try Starfinder and I'm at level 4 currently in an Iron Gods game. A few questions in addition to what people have asked above:
1. What kind of posting expectations are you looking for in terms of frequency and quality?
2. How will you be handling maps and xp?
3. Are you open to having a player who is very active but will probably often mess up the SF rules and ask questions about them in discussion?

I think I've come to a decision: I'm gonna create a Nuar Mechanic with the Starfinder Forerunner Archetype, specializing in being crazy-prepared for anything the group might encounter on a mission. Not sure what Theme to take, though.

Scratch this. I'm going with Soldier with Starfinder Forerunner and human instead.
Brainiac: It’ll be open at least until the 10th, maybe longer.
caster4life: I’m looking for well-written posts at least once per day, and at least once on weekends. However, I know life gets in the way so a few missed posts here and there is totally okay. I’ll be handling maps on google drive, levelling will be done at story points. I’m totally fine with someone learning to play the game.
I would like to submit Neanderthal. He is a Kish Mystic [Xenodruid]. He has joined the SFS to further stretch is wanderer spirit.
I shall write up his backstory today.
Ok, I've got a pretty solid base for my technomancer. He is an android that grew to see the potential inherit between the technology the created him, and the mystical energy of the universe. He is inquisitive, and, tender (for an android) with an almost religious obsession regarding the mystical energy of the universe and the very nature of his existence.
"Bravo" Vizetelly (Human Soldier/Starfinder Forerunner) is now complete! Here's his background and some more basic info on him!
Background:
"Bravo" Vizetelly was a victory baby, born to Lieutenant Caryl Vizetelly, a veteran of the Swarm War, and her husband James. Lieutenant Vizetelly was part of a collaborative effort between the Pact Worlds and the Veskarium, becoming good friends with her vesk squadmate Terikoraz "Skystrider." Unfortunately, Terikoraz lost his life in the squad's final battle, which also cost Bonar's mother her arm. In his honor, she gave her son the name Terikoraz as a middle name.
After Lieutenant Vizetelly received a medal for her valor and wounds and an honorable discharge, the Vizetellys moved to Absalom Station and settled down...for a given value of "settling down," anyway. You could take Caryl out of the military, but you couldn't take the military out of Caryl, and so Bonar grew up in a tightly controlled and regimented life, and when he grew old enough to go to the recruitment office, boot camp just seemed a natural choice.
However, Bonar had learned one valuable lesson from his mother's experiences and the loss of Terikoraz Skystrider: had their squad been better prepared, they might have beaten the Swarm attack that nearly destroyed them and Terikoraz might still be alive. While he completed his training exceptionally well, he quickly grew frustrated that the Pact Worlds' military didn't take these kinds of preparations as seriously as he did. His sergeant sensed his frustrations, but knew that if Bonar persisted he'd probably get himself in trouble. What he recommended was for Bonar to go into the private sector...in a way. He recommended the Starfinder Society, describing the Exo-Guardian wing of the organization and suggested it was there that Bonar would find his niche, going out there and taking the fight to whatever threatened the Pact Worlds as opposed to sitting in the system playing defense. As soon as his discharge papers came through, Bonar rushed to the Lorespire to apply, and soon was accepted into their Forerunner program, which Bonar found synergized with his own inclinations very well. Soon after he attended his Commencement and was now a full Starfinder. He immediately began canvassing for missions to attach himself to, figuring they'd ALL need a crack shot on their side to survive...
Personality:
Bonar sometimes appears to be a soldier without a war. He displays military precision and adherence to protocol in much of his actions, and appears to keep his thoughts and emotions to himself. In Bonar's mind, however, he believes he has aligned his feelings with the demands of a soldier: he channels his worries for his squadmates to attempting to prepare for any situation they may face, so he can ensure they all get out alive. He applies military thoroughness to his scouting and exploration missions to ensure the Starfinders get the best data possible, which in turn will make the mission easier and safer. He has a lot of respect for others with military experience of all stripes, especially from the Veskarium, and attempts to make sure that he treats all with respect, though he can sometimes act overly polite to shirren or other arthropodal species, to avoid comparing them to the Swarm. He prefers going by his callsign, Bravo, rather than his given name, due to the sheer number of bone-related jokes that were made at his expense back in Basic Training.
Description:
Bonar is the image of the heroic human soldier, almost looking like he walked out of a recruitment holo, flaxen hair in a military cut, a rugged-yet-warm face and in peak physical condition. He wears heavy, solid combat armor with the emblem of the Starfinders on one shoulder and the golden helmet of the Exo-Guardians on the other, the only marks that break up the camouflage that dominates the rest of it. He carries as much of his gear with him as possible in his backpack.
I’m still interested. Here’s Quitch’s character sheet. I spent way too much time working on his planet’s background than his own background (which I left blank for now). Basically he comes from a rogue planet in the Vast that only recently (within the last five years) built a Drift capable starship. The planet (actually moon) became a rogue when its star went supernova and only a few dozen beings survived due to being prepared by prophetic dreams. This happened during the Gap. Regardless of that, Quitch is a ysoki mystic and excited to be a member of Starfinder.

BACKGROUND

Given that the cutoff date is approaching and turnout has been somewhat low, I'll extend recruitment a bit to let those who have shown interest to submit their characters.
SnowHeart here. I didn't like my original concept, tossed it, then assumed recruitment would have closed by now but am glad there's some extra time. I looked over the above submissions and tweaked the original idea into something I like quite a bit more. Anyway, here is my submission. Stats are on the alias profile and I will also try to get a background written for it, but here's a rough draft:
Background:
The "Security Enhancement Technician" began its existence on Akiton in service to an ysoki gangster. When it was created and during those first few decades of its existence, the robot had little in the way of sentient thought or higher order thinking. However, his owner had many enemies and they eventually conceived of a way to shut down his protection detail remotely before killing him to take over his territory.
The remote shutdown was the result of a brute-force hacking effort. While it temporarily disabled the S.E.T., it also did substantial yet not irreversible damage, forcing its primitive neural network to begin re-writing itself in an automated self-repair subroutine. While the repairs slowly took place on the inside, to all outward appearances the robot was inactive with only a minimally functional power supply and processing capabilities. It was boxed up and sold at auction to some pirates. When unboxed, S.E.T. found itself in the service of a relatively good-natured and carefree pirate trawling the Diaspora named Lucky Jake.
As S.E.T.'s subroutines came back online, it almost immediately came to the realization that something had changed. That it was capable of having an epiphany in the first place was the first surprise. It then began to discover it was having opinions and thoughts about the orders it was being given and the value and worth of the organics issuing those orders.
As it began to voice those observations, Lucky was both intrigued and amused and, rather than deactivate the robot or wipe its memory, allowed it to continue to function, learn and grow. Eventually, the robot fully evolved into an SRO and adopted the sobriquet Lucky had given it, "Set".
Lucky's outlook on life in the Pact Worlds has imprinted heavily on Set. It has little use for the law but also sees no need to gratuitously inflict harm or injury on others. He prefers to take from those who have no much (or no need of what they have) and "repurpose" those resources to better use.
Unfortunately for Lucky, his pirating career came to abrupt end recently when an anti-piracy patrol of the Stewards came across his vessel and detained his crew and property. Prior to capture, however, Set allowed Lucky to deactivate the SRO. Once again viewed as mere property, the S.E.T. was transported to Absallom Station and, while being moved between the docks and Steward Headquarters for detention as evidence, it managed to escape into the Spire and anonymity.
That was several years ago. Since then, Set has begun working on occasion for the Starfinder Society, viewing the organization as a sort of guild for adventurers and source of promising leads for the repurposing of underutilized property.
Background: Shess grew up not on castorvel but on one of the many ships that went past the Pact Worlds to explore and report. Her parents scientists raised her along side other scientists. To her it was stuffy and boring but she did learn alot. As she grew into adolescense she became a problem child. She stole small one man fighters and cruised around the area often getting into trouble with the local law. By the time she had been sent off ship she had amassed quite alot of time in custody.
On her forced voyage home her ship was attacked by some of the ruffians she had pissed off. With skill and guile she managed to get into the ships bridge and began to pilot her way outta the firefight. Unfortunately this was seen as a criminal act and she was thrown into jail upon arrival at the nearest station. Shess suffered a good months cycle before she was given a proper trail which let her off with timed served.
However, this tarnished her reputation withing the Pact Worlds as her actions on her parent's ship and the arrest began to make her un hireable. So when down on her luck she did the next best thing and began to do odd jobs. A small pickpocketing here, a hack there, a robbery, heck she even tried her hand at a bit of priacy. She didn't have the stomach for it and left.
In the end she was being observed, one day she would receive a mysterious letter. This letter was an Invitation to see the Starfinders and hear what they had to say. so she left to meet them and that is were we leave off...
Have seen a few almost mechanics come through, but looks like they all switched to something else... I need to finish the background write up for my mechanic, but I''m definitely interested. Have not done much PbP before, so I may be a bit behind on conventions.
Will have the full background and write up posted later tonight or tomorrow afternoon at the latest.
Interested. I am currently running Dead Suns for a group biweekly irl but would love a chance to get some more starfinder experience and good times. Let me work at making a character and see if I get chosen.
Not that many generations ago, dreaming of the stars above was all that a Gosclaw could do. In the current age of second-class citizenship, those Gosclaw who still dream of the stars can sometimes find a path to living among them. Not content to stay on Duren as most of his race did, Krizen Longfur happily gave in to his wanderlust and signed on as an engineer and repair specialist for the Azlanti military. While this certainly fulfilled Krizen‘s hopes to travel the stars, it also created frequent situations where ingenuity and creativity were not exactly…. appreciated… by the more rigid Azlanti. Iorsten, the Azlanti supervisor of the Engineering section, recognized talent and did his best to smooth these events over. When one of Krizen’s “creative improvements” ended with a senior ranking officer losing control of his ship during a simulated war game in front of his commanding office, even Iorsten could not find a diplomatic solution. In a rare show of generosity to a second-class citizen, Iorsten turned a blind eye to a deliberate security breach and pointed Krizen away from Azlanti space. He took off in a battered ship that was scheduled to be scrapped for metal, squeaking through the breach just before Iorsten closed it.
The junker was barely able to fly a straight line; Krizen promptly named it the Leaky Life Bucket. It took all of his skill to keep the ship moving and the life support working. Eventually even that was not enough; faced with staying alive a few weeks longer and drifting endlessly, or cutting life support off and racing the clock to reach an inhabited system Krizen gambled on the latter. Three very cold, very long days later he was able to send a distress signal in range of a passing freighter, which picked him up from the remains of the Leaky Life Bucket.
Two years later and Krizen has found himself among the Pact Worlds. The chaotic nature of things took some getting used to after the Azlanti system of law and order, but the independent spirit and respect for individuals has been a completely new experience for this formerly second-class citizen. A recent temp job introduced him to the Acquisitives Faction of the Starfinder Society; while Krizen has the skills and self-reliance that they value, he isn’t sure that this particular faction of society is really the best fit for someone who originally left the gravity well to wander the stars, qualified and willing to keep his crewmates and ship in top shape no matter what they come across. Equipped with an open mind and his toolkit at the ready, Krizen is ready to see where life goes from here.
Krizen Longfur Is a Death-Touched Exocortex Mechanic 1.
Quitch is a ysoki from Ejiri, a rogue planet in the Vast. Under the guidance of Narteal he developed psychic powers and trained as an astronomer. Just before he became an adult, Bruhi discovery the Drift engine in an archive of mislabeled writings. This shook the ejirians. For the past fourteen years they had been building a generation-ship. Now, they didn’t need to do that. After the first test of the Drift-engine and the discovery of Absalom station, the leaders of Ejiri decided to send citizens to live in neighboring systems and the Pact Worlds. Quitch was one of the first to volunteer. He was excited to learn about astronomy and solar deities from other cultures. After passing through various qualifying tests, he was one of the two dozen sent off-world to learn about the galaxy and report back. On Absalom station, he learned of the starfinders. and decided to join that group.
Quitch worships Ibra. He has younger twin brothers studying to be some of the first solarians from Ejiri.

BACKGROUND
------------------------------
Quitch is a ysoki from Ejiri, a rogue planet in the Vast.
Thanks for the response, Coyote! Those policies sound great.
Unfortunately, I'm keeping my number of PBP games somewhat strictly limited right now and won't be joining here unless some of my other games finish up shockingly fast! XD But I'll be back if I get the availability in time!
Given that I’ve gotten a few more submissions in, I think I’ll close recruitment tomorrow night, and have my selections by Wednesday or Thursday at the very latest.
GM Coyote, do you want a full crunch write up for Krizen? There's not too much to do for a first level character so I hadn't worried about posting it yet.
Copied Quitch's format.. it's really clean. Here's the crunch. Eventually going either long arms or heavy weapons, but like most starting out with a pistol.

My sincere apologies for leaving you all hanging, a busy few days caught me off guard. Selection wasn’t an easy process, but I’ve finally made them. My selections are as follows:
S.E.T. by Snowheart
Bonar “Bravo” Vizetelly by Archpaladin Zousha
Krizen Longfur by River of Sticks
Quitch by tomtesserae
Those selected, please dot in the gameplay thread and to those not, I’ll be sure to let you know if I’m in need of another player.
Due to an unfortunate player loss, I'm reopening this recruitment thread. Character creation guidelines are the same as the first post. Story-wise, the party has just finished exploring the ship, and your character will be sent by Historia-7 to reinforce the party.
I'll be taking one or two characters, and I'll gauge the interest before setting a concrete date to close recruitment, though it'll likely be around a week or two.
While we currently have a soldier, there's a chance we have also lost our mystic, who is our main pilot. If you'd be willing to make something in that vein, I'd be more than happy to consider it.
