Congrats on winning the lottery! Make yourselves cozy.

I plan on trying to post at least once a day, moving us along at a decent pace so the PBP doesn’t get bogged down. Please provide a reference for botting if something IRL should come up, and let me know if you are going to be offline for a while. If at least 4/6 have posted and its pushing two days I’ll try and keep the flow going.

The maps will be hosted on Roll20 - see Campaign Info, so let me know who you are and provide an icon for use as a pawn.

@GM: I don't recall using Roll20 before; if I have it was maybe 5ish years ago? I do have a login but I don't know how to make or add a token for my PC. With a little assistance I should be good to go.

@Players: The GM is aware but I want to see how the party looks skill-wise vs. combat-wise. I may swap Djedefre's Int and Str scores. Unfortunately going to an 8 Int means he'd go from 3 skill points to 1 per level so he'd only have Perception and his 2 background skills. The benefit would be his bonus to hit, damage, CMB, and CMD would all increase. So any input is welcome. :)

@ Djedefre: From what I can see, we have Jolánka, Senemheb and Djehuti as Skill Monkeys, while myself and Luke both have Intelligence as our dump stat and Strength at 18. (only he does have 6 skill points - which is a lot more than I can claim!)

I guess it depends on what your skills cover, more specifically. We might need Knowledge (religion) and Heal, for instance - I don't think Jolánka has those.

As of now he has Perception, Knowledge (Religion), and Heal. Going to 1 skill point I'd probably keep Perception since it's so high (+12) and he would still have Heal at a +5 due to his Wis bonus rather than +9 if he trained it.

Knowledge (Religion) could wait but I'd want to make sure someone else has it.


I can shift things around to cover those if need be. I wasn't planning on putting more ranks in Climb or Swim beyond one each, but I can plug those in at 2nd level or so before returning to my more important skills.

(plus it'd mean Jolánka's a trained Lepidstadt surgeon as well!)

This is why I like to communicate and collaborate so we make sure we have all the bases covered. :)

I could switch equipment around to not buy the Alchemist's Fire or the Acid (save 30 GP) and see if I can afford a Healer's Kit. But finding that extra 20 GP won't be easy.

Well then. Like Amal, I didn't entirely expect to be here, but am very glad to join. Looking forward to this.

Rush in sword first at danger, hang back thinking of profits and the occasional tipple at any other time. That should do. Though on the topic of IRL and going offline, you've caught me at an awkward time. Family over for Easter and stuff. I think I'll manage, but should I be missing for a day, assume I'm painting hieroglyphs on eggs.

As for coordinating the party, I too am very willing to adapt to the group's needs. In fact, Luke is sort of intended as just that, being a martial generalist. That said, I don't think we're looking too bad in terms of party composition. No obvious blind spots as near I can tell. Must be the Egyptian pantheon (and/or a GM) looking out for us.

I did, however, fix a couple mistakes in my own stats just now: an errant favored class bonus and a skill point too many. Those skill points will drastically lessen should I follow the original plan of going straight Fighter lv.2 onwards, by the way.

Oh, and happy Easter. That or meme day, depending on your denomination.


In general I'm not going to be a stickler for weekend posting, my Strange Aeons game slows down on the weekends so I'm used to it. I just know from experience PbPs can so easily grind to a halt via burnout or lack of interest so I'm trying to avoid that with communication and reasonable expectations.

Y'all have time right now to adjust equipment and whatnot. The first combat encounter isn't right away, so y'all have time to get affairs in order.

I'll take my rank out of Swim and put it in Heal, then I'll just put a rank in Swim next level. I don't imagine we'll be on the shores of the River Sphinx just yet, but I don't wanna be caught WITHOUT at least training in it just in case we go boating! :P

Djehuti is basically a library on two legs and at this level will rely mainly on Color Spray for debuffing and will try to be imaginative about using Silent Image as cheap Invisibility ("no, you're looking at a wall").

He also has Disable Device from the Trap Finder trait but it's not optimized since he's only got +2 from Dex and I can't afford to put a point into Perception, have no Wis bonus, and Perception isn't even a class skill so finding the traps will be a problem.

Unfortunately neither Climb nor Swim are on the cleric class skill list. I guess Djedefre better hope Ra is listening and lands a hand. ;)

I am glad we've kicked off strong. I'm looking forward to this run. I've been listening to tracks like this to get in the mood.

Since we have no rogues or barbarians, shall I always assume the most perceptive of you is searching for traps whenever Perception rolls are made?

I suspect that would be Djedefre and yes he will. If someone can and wishes to assist I would welcome it.

Being Aasimar he has 60' darkvision so that might help in spotting traps and trouble.

@GM: Right now it looks like the skills are covered so I'm likely to swap Djedefre's Int and Str. A 12 won't make him a melee monster but he'd at least be capable.

Okay everyone after reading the following, "The Church of Pharasma is offering discounts to healing and treating poisons and diseases for groups that bring back sketches, rubbings, and maps of sites, up to 20% off for comprehensive details."

Can anyone with an Int bonus take the 'Artistry' background skill? From the description it sounds like our best bet to make copies that would net us a 20% discount. We'll also need to pool resources to buy appropriate art supplies to make such drawings/rubbing/copies.

Also how are we with bypassing DR and/or hardness? Djedefre has 1 vial each of Alchemist's Fire and Acid but that's all he can do. And I might need to sell one of them to help buy art supplies.

Maybe first let's ask the DM if that's required or if we can just fluff say somebody is doing that and get the discount. Or maybe the discount is just baked into the mod prices already and it's assumed the PCs are doing that. I was already planning to have Djehuti take copious notes describing the ruins and sketch maps but only as a personality trait but used his background skills on History and Linguistics.

GM, would that be enough to get the discount?

DJ is out of money- spent it buying utility scrolls. Swarms and DR are hard at level 1, I think we're just going to have to suck it up for the first few encounters until we can come back and resupply.


I wasn't expecting anyone to by Shelynites in regards to these sketches and rubbings, and notes just require the character be literate. What the Pharasmins want is glimpses into the history of Wati's history and proof the parties are taking notes and being respectful.

In response to Djehuti's question about his note-taking, yes that would qualify perfectly. The module did not account for this "side quest", I'm taking liberties to flesh out the setting and offering the discount as a homebrew.

As for DR/Hardness, that's treading into pseudo spoilers~


I took the liberty of adjusting Jolánka's skills to accomodate Artistry (Rubbings) and used some of her remaining funds to purchase charcoal and paper, as well as Heal. Jolánka will also be taking copious amounts of notes as the "Don't worry, I ALWAYS have paper with me!" kind of nerd. I do still plan on putting a rank in Climb and Swim so I'm at least trained in them at the first opportunity, but I don't plan to improve them beyond that. I also realized I forgot to purchase other writing supplies for her, so I bought an inkpen, but at 3 GP left I no longer have enough to afford the actual ink...

I included a journal, ink, and ink pens in Djedefre's starting equipment. I could sell and juggle to buy some parchment for chalk rubbings?

Parchment is only 5 silver per sheet and I think Djedefre has about 3 gold left? I'll double check.

Charcoal is 5 silver per piece; I'll guess one lasts a while?


I'm willing to rule a stick of charcoal would last 1d3+2 rubbings.

Weird, the campaigns-page didn't show that there was posts in the discussion. But I can't really blame the technology I didn't check until now :P

So I'm late to the character role discussion... But looks like you got it covered.

And I also missed the background skills on character creation, need to fix that. So Jolanka took Artistry? I do have some spare gold for sketching supplies.

Oh, and I came here to say I'll be travelling from wednesday to the following wednesday. Roaming costs, jetlag, and lack of keyboard might take a toll on my posting. But I'll try to check daily.
