No worries. I can be patient. :)

Sorry, had crazy day yesterday. Will get something up late tonight.

No worries. I think we're all having some crazy days lately.

If it helps, Scram, I laughed when I read your post.

If long rest, gem-wrist recharged and currently 2/3 charge.
If not, gem-wrist to teleport over the stone wall used last charge and is 0/3 charge.
...or actually, not sure. But I have been reducing a charge per use regardless.
DM - Tareth
So, I think this came up earlier, but the current events with the gem all got started during the long rest. Thus, the rest isn't actually complete, so the benefits haven't accrued at this point.
Edit: Also, the area beyond the door is just the hallway between the offices (where you are currently resting) and a second surgical theater that is not open to the central tower core. The doors at the end of this hall lead back into the surgery area open to the core where you fought the initial lizards. The other end of the hall is just an open intersection with another passage which is where you've heard various NPC's passing along.
Raseri Whitescale
That's what I figured. Raseri hasn't even started a long rest since she's been focused on the gem.
Scramsax
Ok, Scram still had one charge then to teleport. Bamfing back to there then sneaking up on Mr. Fartknocker here.
Scramsax
Oooh, wand of wall of force? Nice. A 5th level spell in a wand is like artifact level, right? (polymorph is 4th level and the wand is very rare, afaik)
Gonna be hard for us martials to break through though (out of teleports). Scram has the ring that casts spells...we could try rolling random on the wild magic shaft-jostler for a beneficial effect. 3 shots. I'm not sure why the wand wasn't affected, maybe the ring wouldn't bee either.
Or bean of course. The one minute growth time would beat the 10 minute wall of force duration, althgouh Scram would not know that.
Or does Ingryd have any way to cast spells? Or does Ennui aura pierce the force wall?
edit: ah, perhaps Ingryd could walk up to the wall, then summon bee spirits (certainly ghosts are not physical) within 5ft so they appear on the other side? The little dot from the stingers might just be enough to break Concentration on the Wall of Force. :)
Ingryd also has the Honey of the Bear Maiden ability, which with a 3 on a d4 could roll the so-called "Smooth!" bee. This is a single bee that escorts you until the end of your next long rest. You can use a bonus action to command the bee to sting one creature within 30 feet of you for 1 piercing damage. The bee dies after dealing this damage. That could do it, too, with slap-happy luck.
Scramsax
...and sidenote that KP barbarian subclass is totally awesome. I've never really looked at it before. XD
Luthael Invictusol
Remember Luthael can Stone Shape a door through the wall of stone. And then stone shape it closed.
Scramsax
Nice. If that happens and someone can rush through, that could also break the Concentration. Scram at least got a little sneak dmg before it went up. You guys could polish him off from the other side Stone Shape once everyone that sucks is dead before we go to sleep.
@DM, where is the 'apprentice' the person who originally heard the sounds and narced? Which side of the wall of force? Want to kill that as well ASAP.

But... I'm playing that Gunnar and Luthael don't know what's going on beyond the wall. So, we'll need some loud coordination to hear through the wall, right?
Scramsax
Why wouldn't they know? Scram said that someone was about to break through before teleporting over.
Luthael Invictusol
They would know, but why would they know to break through their protective wall? Especially because Raseri is effectively defenseless.
Scramsax
Oh, I don't know. Why did you bring it up in the first place?
Luthael Invictusol
Oh, I don't know. Why did you bring it up in the first place?
ha ha. So, if you really needed them to go through the wall or let you back in, they can, but need to be told.
Scramsax
Did the wizard's movement provoke OA? Scram was not wielding a melee weapon, but asking for a friend...
DM - Tareth
Scramsax: Since Ingryd failed the WIS save vs. Phantasmal Killer, there is no AOO. Basically, they started the turn in melee, Ingryd attacked, Wizard shielded, both continued to shuffle around stepping back and forth from a narrative perspective but no actual Move, wizard cast spell, result of spell Ingryd becomes frightened, wizard uses Move action to step down the hall.
Scramsax
Thanks, that's what I was thinking after I saw the failed save.
Scramsax
I don't know why anyone would object, but Scram would like to keep the component pouch to replace one she lost a long time ago. And the dagger to replace her backup silver scalpel given to the fish.
Here's the latest along with the previously mentioned unIDed potion:
Doctor's Spellbook
Apprentice's Spellbook
Wand (of wall of force?)
Component Pouch
Scroll 1?
Scroll 2?
Amethyst Ring?
Dagger?
Potion?

Seizing upon an idea, he adds, ”Luthael, please use your divine senses to discern if the spirit following our friend out of the gem is good or evil. If you can sense it is evil, tell me and I will do my best to shut the door behind Raseri and leave the evil presence trapped within.”
Um. Checked my character sheet a couple of times, because I can't remember it. What divine sense do you think Luthael has? He's a cleric not a paladin.
I suppose he could check Religion.
Gunnar Thorstein
Gunnar doesn’t know exactly what you have, but as the holy man he hopes you have something. Detect Good and Evil, Religion, Insight, etc.

I asked an AI to give me a summary of famous myths/legends about souls or entities trapped within gemstones. It returned an eclectic mix.
Hope Diamond - thought to contain a Hindu idol, making it cursed. And by cursed I mean it has slaughtered actual people throughout Earth's history...or at least they died somehow, as all living humans do.
Koh-i-noor Diamond - part of the British Crown Jewels. Supposedly has a spiritual presence within, and is hardcore cursed making it very interesting. The builder of the Taj Mahal put the curse on it during one of his not-f*cking-around moods so you better tread lightly.
Egyptian Lapis Lazuli - was thought to be a reservoir of 'spiritual energy' whatever the actual F that is.
Scottish Cairngorn crystals - had healing powers. But there was a catch, you use it and forever more it carries your essence with it. Guess what, its quartz, the most common mineral on earth and the Scottish national gemstone.
Aztec Turquoise - later propagated through Navajo/Hopi and other tribes. Basically it clocks the wearer's milestones in life like puberty, marriage, etc and kicks in special protections during those times. O_o
Djinn in the Gem - I guess the AI was bored one night and loaded up the 1990s Wishmaster flicks. First one was ok. But yes, the Arabian Nights posits genies in a wide variety of objects...including gems.
Soul Gems of Elder Scrolls - Yep, I hadn't made that connection but I suppose that is along the lines of what we are doing.
What is the arithmetic sum of all these disparate facts, you ask? I answer: once Raseri is out, we should sell this thing for the most coin possible. ;D
Raseri Whitescale
Considering that Raseri's trying to break the gem from the inside, I'm not sure it's going to be sellable after she gets out.
Scramsax
Well in that case continual flame (50gp), simulacrum(1500gp), and forbiddance(1000gp) all need ruby dust as components. If its contaminated with the souls of children and singing wolverines Scram can just omit that detail when selling to the magic-users.
Raseri Whitescale
First, we have to survive the hag. ;)
Scramsax
I just watched Puppet Master (1989) on a whim for the first time. It's actually/surprisingly pretty rad/gnarly.
There's a leech vomiting puppet for starters.

You can't deny you are intrigued. Tareth vis a vis his calm, collected waking life is one thing. Absolutely no thoughts of puppets whatsoever, as it should be. Great posts. Perfect fuel for players.
Haunted by 1980s pop-puppets and Duran Duran singles, a Tareth embarked upon a dedicated, irrational quest to do justice to all things muppetry. Such is the hag's curse, beyond the level of simple dispelling magics.
You thought you were going to get some kind of Þórsdrápa inspired ballad but nope. Actual puppets, and what's more a blurring of lines between muppetry and reality. Roll fortitude, mutha f*cka, cause he is comin for us all.

FWIW. I completely missed the description that the light went into Gunnar’s head. Then I haven’t had a chance to react to that. Sorry. My bad.
Gunnar Thorstein
If Gunnar uses Mending, might that reduce the DC for the medicine check to help the girl?
Raseri Whitescale
I'm going to redo my chosen spells to include restoration. I'll have that updated tonight, I hope. I'll get a post up after I get home from work.
Luthael Invictusol
Aye. Good idea. I’ll relook at Luthael’s spells too.
Raseri Whitescale
Okay, spells have been figured out. I replaced Enhance Ability and Guiding Bolt with Lesser Restoration and Remove Curse

OK Reviewed and done.

I want to try and get a substantial post in today at some point. Been dragging my feet on all games so apologize (almost done with the year's work).
But I want to play on the similarities/differences between this new entity and Vee a little.
And please feel free to move on and let that conversation take place in the past or as a recent flashback, don't want to get stuck here for another few months. ;)
DM - Tareth
Scramsax, no need to apologize, totally understand.
I'll actually apologize to everyone for my slow posting rate. Work has been a huge drain the last few weeks as we deal with a sudden and fairly big budget deficit for the year and a very different economic reality compared to this time last year. Likely looking at hefty salary cuts over the rest of the year and probably a couple of layoffs, so lots of intense discussions, number crunching, and planning. Should be on the other side of things by mid-June, so will hopefully regain a little more creative mojo in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, will keep limping along as best as my brain can manage.
Raseri Whitescale
No need for apologies. These kinds of things happen. Just make sure you're getting plenty of rest.
Scramsax
Sounds hellish. Really enjoying the tower exploration/scenes. Thanks again for DMing.

If someone wants to help Gunnar with the Arcana check, I’d love to have him roll that again for advantage.
If it happens:
Advantage roll for Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Luthael has Arcana and Religion trained so only +5, so you describe them discussing things almost all the time with Help and advantage.
Scramsax
Oh woops, I always forget you can sneak attack as long as the disadvantage is cancelled. I think the advantage from hidden will allow it. Will strike next round.
Raseri Whitescale
Hey all, I wanted to apologize for being absent the past few days. I've been working on getting some things done around the house that have been sitting around not getting done, and that's been eating into my free time and energy. The bad news is that this is probably going to be the state of things for a little while, especially since there may be some changes coming up that will require a lot more focus and energy from me for a little while.
That said, I'll do my best to catch up and be as active as I can. All I ask is that y'all be patient with me.

No worries.
I completely missed the detail of the chain binding the death knight to the altar in DM's first combat post:
As the death knight rises and steps from the altar, it is accompanied by the doom rattle of seventy-eight black onyx chains. Each length of chain connects to one of the knight's bones the other end running back to the desecrated altar where is disappears into the offal-covered depths.
Seems to be another ex-Griffon Rider like Rupert von Florien III we faced at the tentacle house. Just getting backstory OOC this time, but seems reasonable to think breaking/dispelling the chain might turn the death knight over to our side or at least free him from the fight. However, rolled low trying to encourage Emilee to Fastball Special the chain.
Luthael also may or may not be down, so Raseri probably cares about that more. ;)
Gunnar Thorstein
Hopefully Gunnar’s Counterspell is good enough. The Dwarven mage is focused on the demon and flies, hoping to beat the flies to death with the windstorm and electrocute the demon.
DM - Tareth
For the Counterspell, so the Hellfire Orb is actually just an action the Death Knight can use once per day. It is not really a spell just a power similar to Dragon Breath, etc. Reading the Counterspell description it only applies when 'casting a spell.' Unfortunately, I think in this case Counterspell would not apply.
If Gunnar would like to do something else as a reaction, I'm fine retconning to allow that. If not, then the wizard just discovers his counter didn't work as Luthael's burning body collapses at his feet. ;)
Gunnar Thorstein
Ugh! I just assumed it was a spell because of the effect was like a necrofireball. If he recognizes it as not a spell, he will use a different reaction, need to make a save, and possible a concentration check. I’ll get rolling.
