Hmm this also presents an interesting opportunity maybe. Has anyone ever done a presentation or video explaining how to do this?

I'd like to try GM-ing PBP but I could really use a guide that explains the practical stuff in a non-technical way. Like: how to set up the maps or handouts or put icons on a map or create the initial area for the game that includes separate threads for gameplay, discussion, etc.
It's only a small part, but I made a quick step-by-step for making tokens in Google Slides a while back.
GM Hmm |
@Dennis: That is nice! I would like to link to that in the PBP GM Kit.
@Poblano: Not yet, though I have thought about doing that. Although we’re a region that writes and reads more than we view, I think it could be cool to put together a help video. Do you know how to do this?
I suppose that I could look up how to videos on youtube to learn how to make how to videos for youtube...

We are busy at work creating documentation to help players and GMs. It's very helpful to know what people most want to know about so we know what to work on first, so thank you!

HMM I do know how ;) plus I believe Google hangouts can also facilitate a forum type Q&A.
Could possibly even build my next Slide Deck "Live" for everyone to watch and ask questions at the same time.
Haha a how to, to how to.
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
*while HMM nods, nearly napping, suddenly she hears a tapping, a rapping from her Closet door*
Did I see something earlier about the next "Big Do" on here and a sign-up for DMs?
If you could point me to it, I might be interested - I believe I'm only 1 game away from my first Star!

IDIYC, the only thing recently announced as recruiting GMs was Shifty's January special.
If you own a scenario, you can run it in our lodge for GM credit at any time; you don't need to wait for a convention or special event.
Feel free to ask any follow-up questions here, or send me a PM.

I realize that, but I'm presently still running something, think 1 DM seat at a time is enough for me, and taking a short break after finishing that then resuming early next year sounds about right.

That's the one, then; please tell me about that.
I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
Some information was posted yesterday in the Recruitment thread. GM slots are full, but some player slots are still open.
I'm sorry, I don't see it; it looks like they were mostly talking about "The Dalsine Affair" and "Race For The Runecarved Key" on there yesterday.

Okay, something's amiss: When I reported my "Twisted Circle" game, my DM credit should have gone to my Theologian (#40025-11) - but it's not showing up in her Sessions log.

To the array of personas in your my closet, (how'd ya get in there?), in Your PFS page you'll find the new-ish Player Sessions and GM Sessions, that's where all Sessions info is hiding right now. =)

Unfortunately, they are not showing up current even there. It's as TOZ says, hopefully the issue will resolve soon.

Hey all, I put together a short Player Survey. Tell us about the types of games that you are seeking!
Hmm
TriOmegaZero |
An exaggeration, but not far off. I should go compile the list again, as many of the ones I have GMed but not played are reserved to be run by/with certain players.

No mention of Core?

Speaking of core, you interested in any games in that campaign I could run?

We wanted to keep it short. But if you want primarily CORE, put it in the comments.

Throw the list of the games you want TOZ under additional comments, along with “TOZ” so we have the context.

A lot of evergreens get ran Core which is good for getting players into it. I think a fair amount of players have Core characters in the 2 - 3 range. So how about a 1 - 5 I haven't played yet?
How about #8-01 Portent's Peril or #3-07 Echoes of the Overwatched?

I've reached my bandwidth limit at 3 games (GM'd)..but... "I love to GM CORE"...be sure that; "I'll be posting another CORE game after the current one I'm running, is completed."
GM Hmm |
Core is pretty fun, but getting into a Core game can be a challenge.
Also, why no mention of Season 9?
That is the ‘New’ Content. Our operating assumption is that everyone can play Season 9 material and that whatever’s new will have an audience.
I'd be interested in some regular PFS (non-CORE) evergreens.
If I can get into a few and get some more experience with PbP I might be interested in GMing some down the line, but I'd prefer not to without having completed a single game.... :)
Given how lovely your GM prep is, Terminalmancer, you come with the GM Hmm seal of approval. Here’s hoping someone can get you into an evergreen soon!

Hmm
I'm flattered! Thanks. :)
My first Pathfinder PbP experience is just a few days old--GM Chie invited me into a Gallows game--so I haven't seen any of the fancy PbP tricks yet. I'll probably feel more confident in GMing PbP once I've got a few completed games under my belt.

I'm going to be organizing another table of The Commencement, as soon as I wrap up one of my current games in the next few days, and was planning to save a seat or two for new PbP players. I can put you on my list, if you'd like.
EbonFist |
I have a suggestion and a question -
My suggestion is that GM's include any faction information when they are posting recruitment for scenarios. I'm getting enough of my characters online that I could theoretically want to choose which one I run through an adventure based on the faction goals involved. Having never GM'd (or looked at a scenario) I don't know if this would be difficult to do or if it will matter enough in how people decide what they play so take this suggestion with a grain of salt.
My question is how do folks do their sidekicks (Animal Companions, Eidolons, Familiars, Mounts, Phantoms, etc.) as characters. I don't want to accidentally do them as a new registered PFS character and I tried it as an Alias once and couldn't figure out the formatting.
Redelia |
EbonFist, if it helps, here is a link to my druid's animal companion. He is set up as an alias, not a PFS character.
Meredith's Eidolon |
This Unchained Summoner is an alias. I put a link to the PFS character in the character sheet, and usually I put a link in the master's summary as well (instead of the Class/Level line)
EbonFist |
Thanks everyone...I just missed a step, last time. I created the alias but then couldn't find the alias to go in and put all the info.

I've gotten into one, so please give other newbies a chance to get in. But I may try to apply normally. :) Thank you!

I Second or third this suggestion, Many of the Season 9 Scenarios 8 of 11 so far are becoming keyed to specific factions. I'm starting to notice a trend with the ramp up to the War for the Crown Adventure Path and I expect more to be linked in the future.

Is feast of ravenmore reserved? First time I wanted to pbp it I had recruitment fizzle. I have had many local people play feast of ravenmore already.
Mogmurch - caps |
I never got a character-specific chronicle for this game last year; can anyone fix that for me? The GM hasn't been around for over 6 months (real life has been giving him hell).

★ --- ANNOUNCEMENT on PFS Faction Changes --- ★
In case you haven’t heard, there are changes coming to the Pathfinder Society Factions this July. One of the major changes that is coming is that we’ll be having a new elemental nature faction, The Concordance, joining the society.
So what is the Concordance? It is an ancient and diverse organization whose membership spans multiple planes, with a particular focus on the elemental planes. Its members take great interest in the interplay among the primal forces of air, earth, fire, and water. They believe that the stability of the multiverse ultimately depends upon these forces—and many others—remaining in balance.
The changes also bring us the sad news of the upcoming retirement of the Scarab Sages at the end of July 2018.
While some of our narratives benefit from extended arcs, we decided that the Scarab Sages' story would be strongest with a decisive end. How it ends—whether the Jeweled Sages thrive as an ally of the Society or whether they fade into obscurity—depends on you.
I do recommend that you read both these blogs, so that you can understand fully what is coming, and upcoming opportunities to change factions.
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
SOME QUESTIONS
How do we get to play important Scarab Sages scenarios for our Scarab Sage characters before the faction retires in July? PBP takes forever!
John Compton in the Faction Updates blog recommended a large number of adventures that would be great for experiencing the story of Scarab Sages. All of them are great adventures, worthy of play by anyone.
Still, Play-by-Posts take weeks to complete, so if you are looking to concentrate on the adventures that are most focused on the Scarab Sages, here they are:
Low Tier
#5-12: Destiny of the Sands, Part 1: A Bitter Bargain (Tier 1-5)
#5-15: Destiny of the Sands, Part 2: Race to Seeker's Folly (Tier 1-5)
#5-16: Destiny of the Sands, Part 3: Sanctum of the Sages (Tier 3-7)
#9-04: The Unseen Inclusion (Tier 1-5)
Mid Tier
#6-19: Test of Tar Kuata (Tier 3-7)
High Tier
#6-04: Beacon Below (Tier 7-11)
#7-11: Ancients' Anguish (Tier 7-11)
#8-17: Refugees of the Weary Sky (Tier 7-11)
#9-07: Salvation of the Sages (Tier 7-11)
ACG
Adventure Card Guild, Season 3 (Especially #3-3: In Search of a Sage and #3-4: Tomb of the Godless Host)
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
But... We rarely see high level play offered in the lodge! How will we get to some of these?
I am so glad you asked! Here is my amazing three step plan!
OutPost I: Back to the Future will feature offerings from older Seasons, Season 9, SFS and... Scarab Sage Scenarios. For those interested, we will also get a chance to participate in the ACG Scarab Sage storyline in PBP!
Yeah, I know that I said that there were only three steps before, but this one is an option that everyone should consider if they are having trouble making the timing of an adventure with PBP constraints. Nervous? Check out Flutter’s Guide to Branching Out into Online Play. Or just log on to PFSChat.com. Post in the #Looking4Game channel and say hi! Tell them you’re new. Tell them you are looking for Scarab Sage scenarios. Finegas, Hels, StuntMonkey and IronHelixx are great VOs, and will be happy to help you or point you in the right direction.

Btw the link at the top of the thread "PbP Special Events and Conventions" leads to Gameday VI and Solstice Scar.
Race for the Runecarved Key should be added to it.

Step One — A Plea to a Few GMs. I am hoping that a couple of you can run moderate-paced runs of the trilogy of Destiny of the Sands starting at the beginning of the year.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm checking on my bandwidth at the moment to see if I can run some.
