So what happens to those chronicles if the PC currently in a game dies permanently? I don't think you can reassign them, but I don't think it's legal to apply them at that point, so I think those chronicles effectively get trashed and you lose the ability to gain credit on a different PC without a replay opportunity.

Good question... I really only see possible solutions, none of which are particularly clear cut.
Painful solution: Never assign the sheet since you can't assign it to a dead character, and remember that never again can you receive GM credit for that scenario. Likely the correct answer.
Sketchy solution: Change the reporting notes to a different character.
Retcon solution: Change the reporting notes to a character who has not had credit assigned to it since running the scenario, or to a fresh new character (downgrading the chronicle to a level 1 chronicle if necessary).

Don't die.
More seriously: you probably will have already reported the games for which you accrued the GM credit, giving a PFS/SFS number (said character).
So, re. reporting, even if you did not apply the chronicles sheets since you were in a PbP game, the death occurs after they were accumulated, thus they are lost, useless pieces of paper in the Boneyard.

Since it is a chronicle assigned but not yet applied, treat it the same way you treat high level chronicles (from playing a pre-gen or GMing) that have been assigned but not yet applied: They are lost when the character dies.

You could use any of these:
doPDFCutePDF
PDFill Tools
It shows up in Firefox currently because that's what's registered as your default viewer for PDF files.

IDIYC, I'll give you the steps that I use in Windows 10 with Adobe Reader. If a key step doesn't work for you, please let us know, and maybe someone will have an idea for you.
1. open the scenario, and have in on the page that is the chronicle sheet, probably the last one.
2. Go to the file menu and select print. Change the option to 'current page' and then go up to where it says printer: (name of your printer). The printer name should be a pull-down menu, and at least in Windows 10, there is an option for Microsoft Print to PDF.
3. If you try to print this now, it will ask you for a file name, and the file saved will be a pdf of just the chronicle.
4. Now you can use 'fill and sign' to fill in the boxes and save a copy for each player. Make sure you sign last thing before saving so that your changes can't be edited by the player.
I will be writing up the details of this much more carefully soon. In the meantime, let me know if any step is unclear or doesn't work for you. We can talk more here if it's a question others are likely to have, but feel free to PM me if you think it's a unique to you kind of question.

Don't be it Writer is the program you are looking for for functionality.
Sounds like he needs to download the latest version of Adobe PDF Reader for his toaster first (it's free,--the first one is always free), or update his preferences for what program opens what file types, and then maybe get a slightly newer toaster to run it all on. I've got a waffle iron (Vista-powered) and a Windows 10 desktop myself. ;)
I'm still a fan of just filling out hard copies and taking pictures of them to email to people. Or going somewhere with access to Adobe PDF Writer and people who know how to use it, and then shelling out a couple of dollars to get them to do some file manipulation for you. Don't forget your USB.

The thing is that scenarios have security features that prevent them from being printed as a PDF from Acrobat Reader AND Acrobat Pro, but a few third party PDF readers circumvent this lockout, what most of us do (I think) is print from Chrome to PDF, for this you need a PDF Printer plugin, I'm not sure if it's already installed in Chrome or Firefox by default but they get installed with most versions of a PDF reader.

Do you have the Adobe Master Suite installed on your computer? If so this tends to release that lock out as well. For some strange reason it "overlooks" all of that security stuffs.
+1 to the use of printing using Google drive/Chrome to a PDF. I usually have my Scenario in my Google Drive anyways, as most of my Tables are ran via multiple computers. thus allowing me to print to PDF and save to my Google Drive.

Nope, I've never even owned a copy of any of Adobe's paid software. As far as I know, I just have a vanilla install.

What I do is this.
Take the Scenario that you own and will be running.
I the use this website
Once it's done, download it back and save it under different name.
Then Using my PDF, I remove all pages I don't need.
Then I use the Edit Forms function.
Little usually need to be done other then to to make them fillable. Just need to open.
Close Form editng.
Form should now be filable.
Save File as Scenario_name Chronicle sheet.

I need some help figuring out how to create area-of-effect templates in Google slides.
At a minimum, I'd like to be able to create those depicted on page 215 of the CRB.
This might be a useful addition to Hmm's PbP GM Kit, specifically to the PbP GM Starter Mechanics -- MAPS document.
Thanks in advance.

I started in on that, then got distracted a while ago. I'll take another run at it. Here's my working document, which anyone is welcome to add to.

Very nicely done. A copy of it has been just shoved into the PBP GM Kit. I'll organize it later!

I installed PDF24 for this. It lets you extract just the pages your want easily as PDFS. As chronicle pages are always the last one that makes it easy to locate. It is also useful for things like extracting the right Faction Journal Card entries for your characters.

Thanks, but the problem with this is that it's neither Windows 10 nor Adobe Reader, so I don't think this works. Like I said, I'm using Windows 7, and while I don't know why (since I never use it otherwise), the PDFs all manifest out of Firefox.

This sounds much more promising. What is it, where can I get it, and is it free?
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
Okay, got it! BIG improvement - but I still can't figure out how to isolate a single page, at least not the way you told me to do it. The result I get is a file it can't read because it is "either not a supported file type or has been damaged"...even though it just made it itself. Trying to do it via the "Print" function doesn't exactly seem like the right way to do it anyway.
GM Aerondor |
Print is an odd term, but printing to PDF is a traditional way to do it if you have a PDF printer installed (may be by default in W10, I'm not too sure).
Or were you using the PDF24 utility?
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
Print to pdf is a simple way to turn lots of different file-types into pdfs.
That it also lets you duplicate a single page of a pdf is a great bonus.
I don't even see a "print to PDF" option - all I can find is "print to file," and having tried that, it doesn't work.
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
Okay! I found exactly what you're referring to, and where it should be...BUUUT that option doesn't exist when I do it; all I get is "Fax" and "Microsoft XPS Document Writer." It doesn't need to be connected to a physical printer, does it? I don't see why it should, since I'm just trying to make a file.
Redelia |
The option 'Microsoft print to PDF appears on an internet search to be a Windows 10 think, so it may not be present in older versions. I think that you need to try another PDF reader that may include the option by default. FoxIt Reader I believe does, but I think it may be helpful to see what other programs people suggest.

You might need to install some additional software. CutePDF is a quality, free, PDF printer. Once installed, you'll see CutePDF in that list.

Okay, this is working!
One final problem: It lets me put a picture as my signature...but why does that picture come out super-bleached, and how do I fix that?
GM Chyro |
It's purely guessing on my part, but when you describe the color different, the only thing that popped to mind, is a setting of color effects.
Like selecting [faded/negative/aged] in an image editing program.
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
Anyone else? If I can just solve this, it will be the final hurdle for me in all this.
Alternatively, is there some way I could convert a PDF file into something that can be operated on in Microsoft Paint? That ought to be just as good.

I'm grasping at straws; I'm a decade or more from using Windows on any of my home PCs.
After creating the single page PDF using the CutePDF Printer, try opening it in Adobe Reader. There is a "Fill & Sign" function (should be to the right) that should have an awesome "Sign" tool that will both apply your signature (that you define in the app) and lock the changes you've made (gold, xp, prestige, boon & equipment edits).
