PaizoCon 2016 has come to a close, but the Pathfinder Society team is gearing up for tons of new programs and material that we showed off at the Paizo Preview Banquet Saturday evening. Organized Play Coordinator Tonya Woldridge announced these to a packed ballroom, and today I'd like to share the news with you.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Horror Adventures

Pulling Back the Curtain—PaizoCon 2016 Announcements!

Last night's PaizoCon Preview Banquet was an amazing event, full of exciting new reveals and announcements, including the unveiling of Paizo's next roleplaying game project, Starfinder, the next hardcover volumes of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, and where Pathfinders will be headed next in Pathfinder Adventure Path and Pathfinder Society organized play. I cannot stress enough how fun and palpable the excitement is during the Banquet, and how cool it is to see folks react in person. But, if you didn't make it out to the show, read on!

Announcing the Starfinder Roleplaying Game!

Ever since Pathfinder Adventure Path #3, when James Jacobs and Wes Schneider had to hold me back from putting a space elevator in Varisia, I've wanted to take Pathfinder to the stars. A year later, I had the honor of writing up Golarion's solar system in Pathfinder Adventure Path #14, and then expanding it further in Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Distant Worlds. But I'm not the only one around here in love with outer space and science fiction—I think all of us have at various times said, "Wouldn't it be fun to do a futuristic version of Pathfinder?" Yet aside from the occasional jaunt to other worlds in adventures like Pathfinder Adventure Path #70: The Frozen Stars, it's always been a dream just out of reach.

Hell of a Time

With this month's release of Pathfinder Adventure Path #106: For Queen & Empire, the Hell's Vengeance Adventure Path is heading toward its thrilling conclusion! Will the knights of the Glorious Reclamation succeed in their crusade to reclaim Cheliax in the name of Iomedae, or will the villainous Thrune agents defeat the upstart rebellion and secure the rule of the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune? Let's take a brief glimpse at what's to come.

A Wild PaizoCon Appears!

PaizoCon attendees will get the opportunity to play Season of the Runelords all the way up through Adventure 3: Into the Mountain and will even get a sneak peek at Adventure 4: Abjurant Halls of Envy. I just wrote the mechanics for a scenario currently called "Look! A Monkey!" which I expect to be the start of a long and extended death-glare aimed in my direction by you, the fans. Just remember that you're the ones who went into something called the Abjurant Halls of Envy, and complaints can be delivered directly to me. I'm the one who looks like Mike Selinker.

PaizoCon Brings Out the Best

Convention season for us is a lot like hosting a large gathering of family and friends for a major holiday: preparing way more dishes than usual, aiming for more spectacular fare than we would otherwise cook, and fretting about whether great-aunt Matilda will critique how we made the pie crust. From dicing the first onion to the moment where everyone sits down and takes the first bite of food, there’s always the question of whether everything turned out just right. Sometimes, though, you can just tell that everything’s fallen into place before even seeing your guests’ expressions. In my extended analogy, while Tonya, Todd Morgan, and Bob Jonquet have handled our seating arrangements and sending out invitations, I think my co-chefs Linda, Thurston Hillman, and Jason Keeley can agree that the menu this year turned out great.

Big Guns

Friday brings the smell of fresh plastic wafting on the winds, a sure sign that it’s time again to preview some digital sculpts for October’s Deadly Foes set of Pathfinder Battles prepainted miniatures! As we prep for PaizoCon next weekend, we’re heading into a big week for Paizo, so I wanted to take the time to focus on a couple of “big” miniatures in the set—namely two of my favorites!

Musings on a Theme: Volunteerism

In my position as Organized Play Coordinator, I work with many of Paizo's volunteers. A large number of them are in the Pathfinder Society, serving as venture officers and event organizers. They spend hours of their free time planning games, teaching new players, and finding GMs. Others aren't in Pathfinder Society, but help out in other ways—attending shows and demoing Paizo's products to business partners and fans alike, spending hours compiling prep tools for games and sharing with other GMs, being a beacon of support on our messageboards. All of these volunteers strengthen our community, and without them our jobs would be much harder.

Simply the Quest

When I joined Obsidian Entertainment last year, because of my background as a tabletop game designer, I was asked if I wanted to work with the Pathfinder Adventures team. Even though it meant having to work with Mike Selinker—Hi, Mike!—it sounded like an awful lot of fun to go back to my card game roots for a bit and, frankly, I flat-out love the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. So I said yes—of course I'd love to see what cool things we could bring to the game on the electronic side that simply aren't possible in the physical space.

OPC Log—16 Desnus 4716

There is no way to do everything at Gen Con by myself; there are just too many tasks and too many places to be. So every year a team of Lead Volunteers is named to help out. While I coordinate things between Gen Con and PFS, they do the same for all the volunteers. Months before the convention starts, just weeks after Gen Con 2015 ended, they started talking about Gen Con 2016. Through months of planning, generating schedules, corresponding with volunteers, compiling lists of supplies, they work closely with me to deliver a quality show. They arrive at Gen Con early and help me set up the Sagamore. Setup is a HUGE endeavor, involving unpacking pallets, building shelving, assembling table stands, folding papers, stuffing envelopes, sorting shirts... an almost endless list of tasks that all need to occur before Wednesday afternoon when our volunteers arrive. After four days of very little sleep, they help tear down the Sagamore, disassembling everything we built days before, packing up the pallets, rolling banners, and compiling a list of GM feedback. Only when everything is torn down and ready to return to Seattle do they take a breather and stop thinking Gen Con 2016. Then, a few weeks later, they review the feedback, read through the many post-Gen Con forum threads, and start thinking about Gen Con 50. The amount of time these volunteers spend putting the show together is immense and I cannot say thank you enough to them for all they do!

The Devils in the Details

Once upon a time, October's Deadly Foes set of prepainted plastic miniatures from the Pathfinder Battles line had a much heavier focus on fiends vs. celestials, with a huge emphasis on the devils of Hell. Probably too much of an emphasis, if I'm being completely honest. Eventually we toned down some of the diabolical content and replaced it with other creatures to give the set a more general appeal, but some of that infernal impetus still remains, and there are PLENTY of devils left in Deadly Foes.

You'll be able to play any or all of the scenarios in SotRu at the show, and we'll even keep a copy or two of Season of the Righteous and Season of the Shackles tucked away for folks who want to catch up or try some new adventures.

Good Guys!

Last week we revealed a couple of bad guys from October's Deadly Foes set of Pathfinder Battles miniatures, so it seemed only fitting that this week we tip the celestial scales back in favor of good! Only this time, because the Sun is shining in Seattle and I'm ready to leave work behind for a relaxing weekend, I want to OVER-tip the scales, so as a special Spring bonus I'm going to reveal three "good" minis today!

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Inquisitor Class Deck

Nobody Expects the... Oh, Wait—You *Are* Expecting the Inquisitor Deck Preview?

I'm back with a peek at the May Class Deck release, the Inquisitor Class Deck. The iconic inquisitor, Imrijka, is a bad-ass half-orc with a heart of gold who debuted in the Wrath of the Righteous Base Set. She's lethal with a bow and, as a melange of ranger and cleric, Imrijka takes pleasure in smiting the unfaithful from a distance.
