HawkCon V: Hopelessly Hawkless (now surprisingly Hawkful)

Do you know what "HawkCon V" had that probably no other card guild society event has ever had before in the history of PACG? Cupcakes with class deck logos on them. That is right. When I first saw the class deck icons added to the community use package, I must admit I never thought of cupcake toppings. Thankful, Eliandra did, because she is awesome that way. She had a company print edible images of them on edible paper and then added them to cupcake frosting. She even went so far as to choose the icons of the class that the group of regulars had been playing. Nothing goes with the sweet taste of victory over the Heart of the Fane like the sweet taste of a cupcake with the icon of your class deck.

We wrapped up adventure 4 today. Elindra, Theryon and I had a fairly easy go with it. Calthaer, Cartmanbeck, and Rebel Song had a super tense moment to finish the adventure, capped off by the Heart of the Fane being one of 3 cards left in the final location. But that location being the Abyssal Rift. And one of the other 3 cards being Demonic Horde. And the servitor demon being the Sloth Demon. And there only being 3 turns left. And Lem having very few cards. And Lem having very mediocre Constitution. It was tense. But victory was won (followed by class deck cupcakes).

My Radillo is shaping up nicely. I ended up extending her power to take boons others fail to acquire into my discard pile regardless of location. And it assured us of a few choice upgrades. I don't regret that power at all. She can acquire so much stuff and then banish a B card to put a 4 weapon in her discard pile for Seelah or Arueshalae. Totally awesome.

Once again, some of the best PACG play I've ever had.

For the record, I think the cupcakes were Theryon's idea. I just figured out a way to implement them. I gave the extras to the store on the condition that they tell everyone they were from PACG, played in the store every Tuesday,

The cupcakes were pretty amazing. I ended up eating more of them than I should have. :)

Brielle has become one of my favorite characters ever. Being able to recharge a card (as long as you succeed) to add 1d12 to either Strength OR Charisma is pretty amazing. :)

It was a blast. I'm enjoying these meet-ups very much. Always nice to actually connect with some of the people on these boards. Looking forward to PaizoCon this week. I wish others could come, too. But I'll see if I can sneak in some Goblin action for Eliandra. hehe

Thanks, as always, to Eliandra for keeping this going and Rebel Song for providing additional resources. Eliandra always has some homemade bakedgoods for eat. I think the cupcakes were a big hit.

I took Brielle through 0-1 thru 4. She rocks my socks.

Eliandra is verily the glue that holds this group together. I myself did not eat a cupcake but gaped in wonder at the magnificence of them.

The scenario's servitor demon was, IIRC, the Vulture Demon - Lem's bane, especially for this "bad Lem", which is what cartmanbeck calls him. Cart does this, IMO, because class deck Lem is particularly inept at smashing things - that being cartmanbeck's preferred style of enjoying PACG, to the extent that he is openly dismayed when we hit a monster with a 10 or 11 difficulty check at this point.

I made the point that it's not like we're getting experience points for beating harder monsters, so an easy one is a freebie that allows us to conserve resources for the real fun in the game - getting stuff. Of course the cool thing about having both playstyle extremes at the same table is that I can do more of what I like to do (within what's possible), and cartmanbeck can do more of what he likes to do. And Rebelsong can do a lot of what she likes to do; from what I can divine that's mostly having Raz ride puppies.

It is a blast and I am enjoying it immensely. It is the best PACG I have ever played. Maybe we'll road trip to a "real" convention some day, once life allows everyone to take the time.

No photos of the cupcakes?

Cupcakes!

Wow, the colors are way more vivid than I expected!

I used Gogo Cakes to print the images on edible paper. They could do 3 images on a sheet of 12, so I did 6 images for 24 cupcakes. They shipped ridiculously fast, and the images were great.

And how were the cupcakes?

Delicious. Easily the best tasting PACG product I've ever had. But even beyond that, they were delicious cupcakes. With the Wizard class deck one, you could almost taste the arcane power surging through your taste buds.

There are really two things that I enjoy more than anything in the PACG:
1) Mega-smashing banes. If I can defeat a bane by more than twice the current adventure deck number, I feel pretty accomplished. If it's a Basic bane and we're in chapter 3, I feel sad at the lack of challenge.
2) Using crazy combinations of powers to use boons in ways they weren't really intended. Like if I'm playing Merisiel on the app version of the game, nothing gives me more pleasure than discarding a Thieves' Tools to defeat a barrier, then revealing my OTHER Thieves' Tools to add a die to the recharge check for the first one. Or with S&S Alahazra, clearing a whole deck from ANOTHER location of boons while safely staying away from banes.
There is also an upcoming character that I had been playtesting that does this kinda thing. That character is now my favorite character in the entirety of PACG.

"Valor THIS!" Brielle screams as she shove the Banner of Valor through a demon's leg. "Try healing THIS!" she cackles while bashing an undead priest's face in with the Sacred Prism.

"Huzzah!" Raz shouts from across the battlefield, astride greyish-red fluffy puppy, whose fur was white when they set out from the camp that morning. Lem groans as he leans off the side of the puppy (having just been rescued by Raz) and grabs a 2 spell (he's looking for a 4 spell at this point).

The Kneecappers (Shorties?) have won the day (barely)!

In the mean time, Arueshalae is trying to convince her companion, Seelah, that corrupted is just another descriptor like ... hmmm ... blood red.

Nothing like a big demon sitting on your shoulder, whispering in your ear. I may be Redeemed, but I'm still a Demon.

So a Paladin, a Succubus and a Wizardess walk into a bar ... the Succubus and the Wizardess burn the place down while the Paladin apologizes.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Seelah just thinks it's a little hypocritical to be accepting the blessings of the demon lords while we're trying to destroy them. If she's going to use the blessing of an evil deity, it's going to be Norgorber.

Clearly, the demon lords KNOW what they're doing is wrong and WANT to be destroyed. Otherwise they wouldn't give their blessings upon your attempts to accomplish exactly that.

BLESSING OF IOMEDAE ALL THE THINGS!

No, no, no ... it's fine. You can use the blessings. They're friendly, just like me!
