Spotlight: Charity Conventions

Over the past year, Society GMs and players opened their hearts (and wallets) in support of other people. While the reasons varied from sick children to cancer research to wounded servicemembers to animal shelters, the generosity of our community didn't waver. Thank you and a huge round of applause to all the organizers on the list for the extra effort it takes to include a charity component in your event. Through the efforts of your labors and the generosity of your players, someone's day brightened.

Hail the Gauntlet!

Thank you to everyone who donated to Paizo's 2018 team for the Gauntlet charity tournament. Team Paizo fought hard in Tak, but a catastrophic Valeria round tumbled us towards the bottom, and we clawed our way back up to 11th, and almost as high as 8th, with an awesome performance on the final Puzzle Hunt round. Thanks to all of you, including an incredible last-minute donation over $1,000, we also unlocked an astonishing number of blog segments revealing further secrets about previously blogged classes. This will be a monster-length blog, so strap in for a long ride!

OPC Log—14 Neth 4716

The team and I spent some time last week going over our blog schedule. I am flabbergasted that we are 7 short weeks to the end of 47162016. How did so much time pass so quickly? Looking back, the answer is in a blur of conventions, Venture-Officer promotions/resignations, spreadsheets, and meetings. I think they rest of the team may add development, planning, and devious plans to the list! One thing it reinforces—there is lots of Pathfinder Society happening around the world. None of which would happen without the support of our huge force of volunteers!

Victory For Paizo! Victory For The Kids!

The Gauntlet was awarded on Sunday, and with your help, Paizo brought home this mighty trophy! Sponsored by Card Kingdom, the Gauntlet tournament featured competitors from a wide array of local game companies and groups. Funds raised by all of the teams went to support Child's Play, a charity that donates games and toys to sick kids in hospitals around the world. On top of furthering such a great cause, donations also earned each team a number of "Power Ups" to use during the event, granting an edge against the opposition.

The Fight for the Gauntlet Rages On!

I can truly say that the team was astounded when you helped us raise over $2000 in a single day for The Gauntlet charity tournament event coming up on May 18th. With that, we have earned a number of "power ups" that are going to help us in the tournament to claim The Gauntlet. Alas, the fight is not over yet!

Help Paizo Take the Gauntlet

We here at Paizo take gaming seriously, and when we heard about an opportunity to play games for charity, we just could not resist. Teaching Changemakers Using Kingmaker

My name is Ben Parkinson and I have been interested in roleplaying for most of my life. For the last five years I have been running a project in Uganda, which trains indigenous youth in Uganda to become social entrepreneurs, sometimes known as change makers. Our project is known as the Butterfly Project because it relies on the concept that nurturing youth can transform them into Butterflies, capable of changing the community in which they live and we are very proud of the young people we have been working with, most of which come from slum areas in Kampala and some from remote village areas.

If there's anything that we Paizonians have learned over the years, it's the value of community. The Paizo community has been the backbone of our business and the emotional core of our company since the beginning—the thing that carried us through the rough patches of magazine transitions and edition changes, into this awesome place we are now. But that's only one small part of what this community does. On the other side, it's been amazing to watch our fans and friends interact with each other—helping people through health crises, natural disasters, and the everyday problems we all have to face. We talk a lot about how proud we are of our products, but helping foster one of the friendliest messageboards on the internet? That's a pretty big deal, too.

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords Base Set

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Marathon at BoardGameGeek.Con

The website BoardGameGeek.com has been an extraordinarily fruitful discussion site for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. After its release in late August, the Rise of the Runelords base set had an epic run at #1 in the Hotness, and has stayed in the top ten ever since. It's had over half a million page views. The game just got into the all-time top 50 games and the top 5 thematic games only a couple months out of the gate. And just like the folks on the Paizo messageboards, the commenters at BGG were tremendously helpful in helping us get the wording right on an updated version of the PACG rulebook (click to download).

Play Games. Heal Kids. Final Countdown.

Play games. Heal kids. That's what Uncle's Games set out to do when we partnered with Paizo and others to throw one of the biggest Extra Life board gaming events in the nation. Over 200 people descended upon Redmond Town Center in Washington state with the goal of playing games for 25 hours straight. For each hour they gamed, their friends and family donated money to Seattle Children's Hospital.
