Meet the Tian Xia Authors!

Hello everyone,
James, Eleanor, and Ianara here, your leads for the Tian Xia project. As of yesterday, the Pathfinder Lost Omens Tian Xia World Guide is officially out! This is a region of our setting that we know many of you (not to mention us at Paizo as well!) have been looking forward to for some time, and it’s great to be able to share this look into the continent with you. Tian Xia takes inspiration from Asian fantasy and folklore, and we knew that we wouldn’t be able to bring this vast range of stories to life without an all-star team of writers and designers, many of whom also worked on the Pathfinder Lost Omens Tian Xia Character Guide, which releases in August. Get to know some of them below!

Hey! It’s your fledgling and greenhorn Rulelord Pete here. If there’s three things to know about me, they’re that I am a consummate GM, I think the next iconic should be a shoony, and I want people to try new games! However, it’s not always that easy. Branching out in our collective hobby requires many people to commit time, money, and energy to sit at a table and engage with unfamiliar rules. There are many who might want to try something new but aren’t able to because they can’t find anyone to play with. If this sounds like you, then there’s hope.

The Abomination Arsenal: Part 5

The Deep Levels!
We’ve delved a lot of dungeons throughout Order of the Amber Die’s history. We’ve delved a few megadungeons too. There is this cool thing that happens when you pass the two-thirds mark of a megadungeon; in 2014, it happened when we reached the eleventh level of The Emerald Spire. In our earlier years, it happened when we reached the third poster map of the Ruins of Undermountain. It happened again during this marathon, when we landed on the eighth level of the Abomination Vaults. You’re close to the end. You can feel the immensity of the megadungeon above you, instead of below you. Barring teleportation, it takes longer and longer each time you trek back up to the surface. Everything is a bit more serious—the pressure to succeed is greater. You’re in what we call “the deep levels” of a megadungeon. Just reaching the deep levels is enough for hand-slaps and hugs around the table, but in the back of your mind is what awaits at the bottom.

While many American history classes conflate Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the Emancipation Proclamation with the end of slavery, it took several years before the order reached states like Texas—and it wasn’t until June 19th, 1865 that slavery was properly abolished. It should also be noted that while slavery was banned as an institutional practice, it still exists in the prison industrial complex and disproportionately affects Black Americans.

Paizo Pride 2023

Pride month is a time to celebrate queer joy, a time to be out and proud about our existence. Pride is a protest and always has been. For every victory, like the Respect for Marriage Act or the removal of the ban against gay men donating blood, there are just as many setbacks to equality. States like Florida and Texas pass law after law banning discussion of queer issues in schools and gender-affirming medical care, which whips the outrage machine into a frenzy and leads to Target employees being attacked over the yearly Pride collection. The LGBTQ+ community wonders every day what new attacks on our freedom, our right to simply exist, await us in the news.

First Draft of the ORC License Ready for Public Comment

The ORC is not explicitly a Paizo license, but is intended for the common use of the entire games industry, across a wide variety of games and platforms. Over the last several weeks, we have been working closely with Azora Law, an intellectual property law firm that works with Paizo and several other game publishers, to develop and refine a working draft of the ORC license for public discussion and refinement.

Creating a dangerous dungeon to challenge adventurers is a lot of work. While the various architecture aeons, drafter devils, engineering elementals, and other dungeon designing minions here at Paizo are generally great at their job, there are some times when the rooms they create don’t quite hit the mark. While we typically just set those aside for incineration at a later date, we were running out of space at the delving warehouse. To clear up a bit of space, we figured that we could just set a few of those unused rooms out on the curb for anyone to pick up. So, today on April Fools’ Day, we invite you to come on by and grab any of these rooms and throw them into your next dungeon!

Over the last few months, the world has seen a huge upsurge in interest, use, and quality of algorithm-generated imagery and text. The ethical and legal issues surrounding “AI art” and writing prompt programs—and the serious threat they pose to the livelihoods of partners who have helped us get to where we are today as a company—demand that we take a firm position against the use of this technology in Paizo products.

I was the voice for both the plucky kobold Purepurin and the mighty dragon Valashinaz, as well as the writer for the new base weapons, story-based crafting, and a wide variety of other items scattered throughout the book, like the new thrower’s bandolier previewed in the “Varmints in the Vaults” blog.

As Paizo and other publishers announce their support for the Open RPG Creative License (ORC), there has never been a better time to make or try third party content. The mods at r/Pathfinder2e have seen the incredible growth of the community even before the age of the ORC, and TPK wants to recognize that.

Paizo Announces System-Neutral Open RPG License

For the last several weeks, as rumors of Wizards of the Coast’s new version of the Open Game License began circulating among publishers and on social media, gamers across the world have been asking what Paizo plans to do in light of concerns regarding Wizards of the Coast’s rumored plan to de-authorize the existing OGL 1.0(a). We have been awaiting further information, hoping that Wizards would realize that, for more than 20 years, the OGL has been a mutually beneficial license which should not–and cannot–be revoked. While we continue to await an answer from Wizards, we strongly feel that Paizo can no longer delay making our own feelings about the importance of Open Gaming a part of the public discussion.

The Abomination Arsenal: Part 1

Our first marathon is in the books, and it’s time to report out! We knew when we started this project that it wasn’t going to go down like a typical dungeon crawl—or megadungeon for that matter. Instead, this campaign shot off with an excessively violent bang (series of them, actually) that left a character dead and a level full of face-down mitflits. We’ve played a lot of dungeons over the years, but we’ve never riddled one with ricochet marks. In short: Gunslingers are a great time, everyone should try four!

Many Years Ago...

...I and Wes Schneider took over the big conference room at Paizo and began to work out what Pathfinder Adventure Path was going to do to follow up its first official campaign for the Pathfinder Roleplaying game. We knew we wanted to do a sandbox-based Adventure Path (in part because we were excited by the challenge, and in part because there was a lot of call and request for something like that from Pathfinder gamers at large), and by the end of an afternoon-suddenly-become-evening-without-us-noticing, we’d sketched out Kingmaker, the idea for building a kingdom, the grid-based settlement-construction concept, and the basic ideas for the region in which the campaign would take place. I went on to craft the outline for the Adventure Path and started hiring authors, while Wes focused on writing a detailed gazetteer for the Stolen Lands that would appear in the Guide to the River Kingdoms alongside the launch of Kingmaker itself.

Order of the Amber Die here, back with our eighth project since 2014! In case you aren’t familiar with our work from past projects, we’ll give you the staccato version. We only play published adventures. We use the complete rules set. We’ve had the same GM since our founding: 1987. We like to push the envelope of tabletop roleplaying. We only play marathon sessions—days at a time. We’ll play on location. Our GM isn’t afraid to kill characters or TPK us; he’ll do it in front of the community, too. Imagine us like a roleplaying team, complete with a captain to help the players. We revere one d20 above all others, and that is the Amber Die. It doesn’t roll more 20s than it should, but it chains them when it does, and doubters have always been converted. After more than 150 adventures, we’ve even gotten rid of RPG absolutes: yeah, we’ll split the party.

What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been

I am officially announcing my retirement from the adventure game industry. After 35 years of making some of the most amazing games and getting to work with the most amazing people, it is time for me to step away and move on to the next chapter in my life. In January 2020, I was diagnosed with a very rare disease that, while not life-threatening, is debilitating, sapping me of much of my energy and making it hard to do my job. The pandemic allowed me to step back from the day-to-day operations of Paizo enough to help me feel comfortable making this life change at this time.

Giving Thanks in 2021

Today is Thanksgiving in the United States, so the Organized Play team wanted to take a moment to give thanks to our Paizo community. Without you all, the worlds of Pathfinder and Starfinder would be just stories we told ourselves. We’re grateful for all your support and wish you well as this year comes to a close. We also want to thank the Organized Play community organizers for supporting our programs in these turbulent times. Without the venture-officers, we would lack structure, and without GMs, we would lack games. To all of you who spend time planning schedules and completing tasks behind the scenes, a huge shout out of thanks!

Starfinder One-Shot: The Great Grav Train Robbery—Let’s Go Do Some Crimes!

Look, the plan couldn’t be simpler. Just rappel onto the roof of a speeding train filled with armed gangsters, somehow get inside, get the passcode that opens the cargo car off the chief of security without alerting their army of goons, locate and grab that artifact everyone’s after, and then call your getaway pilot for an extraction before the train reaches its destination. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

In today’s blog we celebrate the fathers and father figures in our community. As we pause to honor and reflect on fathers of all kinds, we also recognize the many different feelings and memories that arise from this day. Whatever Father’s Day means to you, and wherever you are in the difficult journey of fatherhood, know that we’re grateful. Whether you’re a father (or father figure), have a father, or have memories of your father, and whatever those experiences may mean to you, fatherhood is one of the things that binds most of us together—wherever, whenever, and whoever we are.

Order of the Amber Die: The Slithering Salve Part 1

In case you're new to our projects or what Order of the Amber Die is all about, here's a quick rundown: We have been dedicated to pushing the envelope of tabletop role-playing since 1987. After more than five years on the Paizo blog, including three full Adventure Paths and the Pathfinder Playtest, we were looking for a new project, and our first one in Pathfinder 2nd Edition no less. We had never presented anything from Paizo's modules line, but just a few minutes after scanning the options, a new project was born: The Slithering Salve! Over the years, author Ron Lundeen has shown up as one of the more frequent names from the adventures we've played, and The Slithering will mark the fourth adventure of his that the Order has taken on.

Order of the Amber Die: Beyond the Veiled Past

Let's get this out right away: It's an awesome feeling to complete an Adventure Path. As we all know, you don't have to scan the message boards very hard to find stories of how many groups almost made it to volume six of an AP. Not too long before the historic events of 2020, we assembled for exactly that: one final marathon of Ruins of Azlant. Our odyssey was at its conclusion, and what made this marathon equally nostalgic was that it was our last adventure of the Pathfinder 1st Edition era.

As an actor and a fan of nerd culture, I have been blessed in many ways for the past three years. One way, and how some of you might recognize me, is that I was honored to be part of a show called “Dragons and Stuff” all last year. It is now “Dragons and Things,” and we play a homebrew campaign live on Friday nights for our dedicated, wonderful fans. I am also blessed by playing Yukon Cornelius in the national tour of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the Musical,” based on the the ani-magic movie, every November and December. It is a blast. However, the drawback to having these two exhilarating jobs is time constraints. I cannot do both at the same time. But this year, I decided to combine my two worlds into an experience I will never forget.

During the afternoon, nine tables battled through a myriad of pregenerated specials and harder scenarios such as Pathfinder Society Scenario #4-26: The Waking Rune. I got a chance to chat with local players and look in on some of their games. I left before the start of the multi-table interactive special event, Pathfinder Society Scenario #7-00: The Sky Key Solution. I hear there were several deaths, but the Society emerged victorious.

Order of the Amber Die—The Strange Aeons Experiment, Part 5

They made it off the map! Well, off the map of the Inner Sea and deep into parts unknown. The folks from the Order of the Amber Die recently completed their fifth marathon session of running the delightfully creepy Strange Aeons Adventure Path. I'm going to keep this introduction short and let all of you dive right into the action as the Order of the Amber Die recaps their experiences with Pathfinder Adventure Path #113: What Grows Within.

Adventures Worth Holding Your Breath For

Just as the Seattle area transitions from chilly and wet to "sunny yet inexplicably still raining," so too is the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild team eager to get outside and explore some exciting locations. We're also pleased to have an exciting Season 9 schedule in place along with the name and logo, much of which we'll announce at PaizoCon 2017, so be sure to attend the PaizoCon Preview Banquet and the organized play panel the following day to ask any questions you have. In the meantime, let me share a few more secrets about this month's scenarios—both of which lead into our PaizoCon releases!

Fantasy All Around You & OPC Character Contest Voting

I spent the past weekend on a trip to Grand Canyon National Park. Driving there, my family and I passed a variety of different climate zones. We went from the desert of Las Vegas to the scrub of Nevada/Arizona border to the pine forests surrounding Flagstaff to the windswept gorge of Grand Canyon. As a side note, the area around Flagstaff reminds me of growing up in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. In each place, our talk turned to what fantasy creatures would occupy such areas. The walk along the canyon rim started with the observation that we forgot Gobby, our Pathfinder Goblin, and couldn't take photos. That spawned discussion of goblins living in the canyon rim and launching sneak attacks against unsuspecting hikers, followed by the observation that trolls would probably like the rim and orcs the deeper crevasses.

I spent last weekend at Who's Yer Con in Indianapolis, Indiana, and am traveling back to rainy Seattle. So much rain, the region is breaking records! This weekend gave me the chance to hang out with folks from our Great Lakes region in a setting a bit more personal than Gen Con. I got to play some, run some, and chat quite a bit! Thank you to Venture-Captain Mark Stratton and his team for putting on a quality event and having me out!

Great Things Come in Threes!

The Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) Trade Show in Las Vegas has wrapped up and I'm headed back to Seattle early next week. GAMA brings retailers and industry professionals together once a year at their trade show, as well as sponsors the Origins Gaming Convention every June in Columbus, Ohio. The Paizo team was busy this year! The Jasons (Keely and Bulmahn) ran lots of Starfinder ship combat demos, Erik Mona talked to loads of attendees about upcoming Paizo products, including the Starfinder line, Jeff/Cosmo/Pierce/Jenny spent lots of time in meetings, and I gave presentations on Paizo Organized Play. By the way, how many of you caught our live tweets from the presentations? That was the brainchild of our new Outreach Manager, Dan Tharp. You should see his fingers fly on a phone keyboard.

Comic Cons and GM Stars

Last night the Pathfinder Society community of Seattle and I wrapped four days of demonstrating Pathfinder games at Emerald City Comic Con. Before working at Paizo I traveled to a fair number of cons, but they were mostly gaming-focused. My first exposure to the world of comic con style events was Fan Expo in Toronto. Larger than anything I attended prior and packed with big names in the film industry, it exceeded any expectations. Over the past two years, I've attended several other comic cons and come to enjoy the loads of people, colorful costumes, and variety of activities the shows present.

Announcing the Regional Support Program!

Last spring, we rolled out a Game Day initiative for the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild. Our intention was to respond to player requests for boons outside of conventions, for those that could not afford time or money to attend a show. From the outset, the program had issues. From it's unfortunate name, which was already being used to refer to a one day function where Pathfinder Society was played, to the convoluted system of goals and rewards, the Game Day initiative caused more headaches than it solved.

Over the past few months, I processed quite a few Venture-Lieutenant to Venture-Captain promotions, as well as some shifts in geographical location. In some cases, we created new regions, in others just changed titles to better reflect the region each volunteer covered. One Venture-Captain is currently listed "At Large" as he is in the middle of moving to the United States and we didn't want to ask him to step down before we knew where he was landing. As so many shifts occurred, I thought I would take a moment and post them here.

Unfortunately, a trip to Seattle is not in the cards for everyone. For those Paizo fans on the other side of the Atlantic (or who fancy a trip to England), fear not. The team and I spent some time last week going over our blog schedule. I am flabbergasted that we are 7 short weeks to the end of 47162016. How did so much time pass so quickly? Looking back, the answer is in a blur of conventions, Venture-Officer promotions/resignations, spreadsheets, and meetings. I think they rest of the team may add development, planning, and devious plans to the list! One thing it reinforces—there is lots of Pathfinder Society happening around the world. None of which would happen without the support of our huge force of volunteers!

In the Pacific Northwest, our weather turned and rain now envelopes our Redmond office in a mist. Falling temperatures, transitioning leaves, and blustering winds replaced the bright sunshine and warm weather. The rough storms of the past weekend left us tossed about and quite a bit of debris and detritus blown about, but all are accounted for. For other Pathfinders, the inclement weather patterns of the past few months test their resiliency and survival skills. While we have heard from Venture-Officers and players on the eastern seaboard of the US, they still face difficulties with flooding and power outages. Though divided by location and language, we are all one huge family. If possible, where possible, consider offering a helping hand or a dry towel.

Good afternoon, Pathfinders! I just got back from northern Idaho, where I went to help clean out my childhood home. Sorting through the stuff brought the memories flooding back—wrapping paper from my childhood, the hand brace my grandfather wore, books I put in storage when I moved to England. The town doesn't look the same with the open fields of my youth replaced by housing developments. It was a relaxing visit, for being lots of physical labor, but now I'm back in Redmond and turning my focus to more Gen Con prep, getting things ready so I may travel to PaizoCon UK, and keeping things moving on getting support out to other conventions.

There is no way to do everything at Gen Con by myself; there are just too many tasks and too many places to be. So every year a team of Lead Volunteers is named to help out. While I coordinate things between Gen Con and PFS, they do the same for all the volunteers. Months before the convention starts, just weeks after Gen Con 2015 ended, they started talking about Gen Con 2016. Through months of planning, generating schedules, corresponding with volunteers, compiling lists of supplies, they work closely with me to deliver a quality show. They arrive at Gen Con early and help me set up the Sagamore. Setup is a HUGE endeavor, involving unpacking pallets, building shelving, assembling table stands, folding papers, stuffing envelopes, sorting shirts... an almost endless list of tasks that all need to occur before Wednesday afternoon when our volunteers arrive. After four days of very little sleep, they help tear down the Sagamore, disassembling everything we built days before, packing up the pallets, rolling banners, and compiling a list of GM feedback. Only when everything is torn down and ready to return to Seattle do they take a breather and stop thinking Gen Con 2016. Then, a few weeks later, they review the feedback, read through the many post-Gen Con forum threads, and start thinking about Gen Con 50. The amount of time these volunteers spend putting the show together is immense and I cannot say thank you enough to them for all they do!

Getting the Band Back Together

Just as many people consider one place home no matter where they live now, I’ve met many gamers who have what they consider their "home group" even when life’s circumstances and opportunities take them to opposite ends of the state, country, or planet. Fortunately, the quality of low-cost virtual tabletop programs and communication software improves every year, and it’s easier than ever to run a game when friends are thousands of miles apart. Even so, there’s something really special about reuniting the band in person.

As was posted on Friday through Paizo's social media accounts, VC Karim & VL Florent confirmed the safety of all PaizoCon France attendees. Such is the enthusiasm and self-reliance of our Pathfinder Society brethren, despite the government closing the site down and the convention being officially cancelled, games still happened. Karim & helpers found two sites across town and coordinated games all day. Not only did they play scenarios in the afternoon, they organized five tables for the interactive special 7-00: The Sky Key Solution. Greetings, Pathfinders! This is the second in a recurring series of blog posts written by you. Today James McTeague shares with you his conversion of a cool story trope to a Wrath of the Righteous homebrew scenario. But before we get to the delicious design in this week's blog, we wanted to let you know that in addition to all the card types already available for creation, you can now create six more card types with DriveThruCards' Community Card Creator. Create your own Locations, Scenarios, Adventures, Adventure Paths, Blessings and Cohorts! Also, for this week only, all custom cards are just 25 cents! New Recruits, New Achievements!

Over the past 8 years, Pathfinder Society Organized Play has grown into a worldwide community. The phenomenal growth is testament to the hard work and support put in at all levels of the campaign. In fact, it's grown so large that I am adding two more categories of volunteers: Regional Venture-Coordinators (RVC) and Venture Agents (VA). These two new tiers serve to facilitate communication across the globe, and recognize the individuals who support Pathfinder Society with their efforts coordinating games.

Minnesota Pathfinder Society Gives Back the the Community

At Paizo, we get an overwhelming amount of feedback surrounding the growth of the Pathfinder Society. Many of these are positive reports of our volunteers and Venture Officers building strong gaming groups and communities within their region. And occasionally, we hear back about how these local chapters are turning their passion for gaming and PFS into a platform for giving back to people in need. We were contacted by the Minneapolis/St. Paul lodge recently, and wanted to share with you how they've decided to make a difference through their local convention, Skål Con.

A Record Year for Organized Play

A week ago we flew back to Seattle from another great Gen Con experience. By day we managed the Paizo booth, and after the exhibit hall closed, we ascended to the Sagamore Ballroom for a special event every night. On Thursday night we presented Pathfinder Society Special #6-97: Siege of Serpents, which debuted at PaizoCon 2015 but easily shattered past attendance records in the Sagamore. This was also an opportunity to thank Mike Brock for his service to the organized play campaign, announce 11 new Campaign Service Award recipients, and recognize the many GMs who have received their fifth star in the past year.

Giantslayer Marathon: Part 5!

I just got back into the office mid-week from crazy whirlwind of GenCon, and one of my highlights was getting to meet the Order of the Amber Die in person at the show. I first met the guys outside of the dealer hall on the day the show opened and then they sat in the front row of the Pathfinder Adventure Path Q&A panel we had on Friday. Later that day, I spent one of my breaks from the booth talking with them in a quiet environment outside of the bustle of the convention center. They shared some more stories about their Giantslayer project and we talked a bit about what they want to do for their next big endeavor. I even got a chance to game with Sterling on Saturday night! They are truly enthusiastic about the game and great ambassadors of fun.

There is No Certainty, Only Adventure!

Last week the Year of the Serpent kicked off at Gen Con 2015! Along with the Pathfinder Society Specials that tie into the new season, we ran tables of the latest releases: #7-01: Between the Lines, #7-02: Six Seconds to Midnight, and #7-03: The Bronze House Reprisal. These adventures have Pathfinder Society agents scouring the streets of Katapesh, on a crunch mission for rare reagents, and sending the Aspis Consortium the message that no act of aggression is going to go unnoticed. And since our Pathfinder Society team is still on the road heading back home, let's take this opportunity to show off some of characters you'll face at the start of the Year of the Serpent!

Small Conventions, Big Results

This time of year it’s easy for the Pathfinder Society team to focus so hard on the major conventions (all of the adventures for PaizoCon and Gen Con in particular) that we can lose sight of the smaller events. These might not have the same reach and exposure as the big names, but they’re all stronger in how they bring the community—both the players and the public—together. Venture-Captain Mike Bramnik of Bloomington, Indiana recently contacted me with an after-event report for the Convention of Stonekeep, which did exactly that. Let’s read it in his words.

Remembering Mike McArtor

Yesterday brought the sad news that our old colleague, Mike McArtor, had passed away. Mike joined the Paizo staff back in the "magazine days," as an editor on Dragon Magazine. He was a mainstay of office campaigns, a pillar of our editorial operation, and once the magazines went away, Mike was one of the earliest architects of Pathfinder and the world of Golarion. He left Paizo in 2008, on the eve of the Core Rulebook launch, but his creative legacy remains an important part of the DNA of the Pathfinder world. His positive attitude and welcoming friendliness, I hope, also helped to shape the DNA of Paizo itself. We're a much larger, much different company than we were in those now nearly mythical magazine days, but we like to think Mike's spirit hung around and continued to influence the company years after he left.

Teaching Changemakers Using Kingmaker

My name is Ben Parkinson and I have been interested in roleplaying for most of my life. For the last five years I have been running a project in Uganda, which trains indigenous youth in Uganda to become social entrepreneurs, sometimes known as change makers. Our project is known as the Butterfly Project because it relies on the concept that nurturing youth can transform them into Butterflies, capable of changing the community in which they live and we are very proud of the young people we have been working with, most of which come from slum areas in Kampala and some from remote village areas.

One of the nicest things about being a Paizo fan is getting inspired to create things from the world of Golarion, and before I was hired at Paizo, Hugo "Butterfrog" Solis and I hatched a mad crazy scheme to produce something for the hard-working Paizo staff—a fanzine, to capture that same sense of excitement when the latest Dragon and Dungeon magazine got into your hot little hands. Wayfinder has been called a love letter to Paizo, which is probably the best compliment I've ever gotten on anything I've ever helped come to fruition. For other people, however, Valentine's Day carries more significance, and flat-out demands acknowledgement. They see it as an excuse to truly cut loose, to go all-out with the romance and treat it like a real holiday. ... And then, apparently, there's a third type of...

Also, Paizo—or more specifically Entombed with the Pharaohs and the Critical Fumble Deck—got a subtle shout-out on this week's commodoreHUSTLE...

Happy Erik Mona Day!

Happy Erik Mona Day! Tuesday, November 11, 2008We have the best fans and readers in the world. ... Last year, our messageboard community, in their unique and awesome way, declared November 8th to be Erik Mona Day to honor the hard work the editorial staff (and the rest of Paizo) were putting into creating and producing some of the best RPG projects in the industry (in my and their humble opinions). To celebrate Erik Mona Day they pooled their money together and ordered us pizza. We were,...

The Paizo Halloween Party!

The Paizo Halloween Party! Monday, November 3, 2008Had you wandered into the Paizo editorial pit last Friday the only way you'd have known it was Halloween was by our pumpkin spice lattes. (Don't judge! We live in Seattle!) In fact, I think Josh, Alison, and Cosmo were the only three trick-or-treat-ready members of the whole crew. But around 3:00 we got an e-mail from Liz Courts (our own Lilith) with an illustration by Hugo Solis of a Hallow-awesome bash featuring all your favorite Paizo...

Pathfinder! Now in Two Amazing Dimensions!

Pathfinder! Now in Two Amazing Dimensions! Wednesday, October 29, 2008Anyone who's haunted the Paizo messageboards for a while has likely come across the artwork of Ashton Sperry, our own N'wah. (If you haven't, look for his posts in this thread!) That Ashton is a big ol' Pathfinder fan goes without saying. His deluxe-sized rune giant paper miniature so impressed us a few months back that when asked if we'd like to see more Pathfinder characters receive the same 2D paper miniature treatment...

Gen Con Ephemera!

Gen Con Ephemera! Thursday, August 21, 2008Someone made the terrible mistake of giving James and I cameras, a lapse in judgment we heartily exploited over the past week at Gen Con. While many of the images we captured proved too terrible to inflict upon you gentle souls, here are a few quick highlights we snapped from the showroom floor. Special thanks to all the Paizo volunteers, everyone from the message boards we ran into (you guys are awesome!), all who voted in the ENnies, Tiffany,...

Frozen Fingers of Midnight: A Pathfinder Society Scenario Sneak Peek

Frozen Fingers of Midnight: A Pathfinder Society Scenario Sneak Peek Thursday, July 3, 2008Last Saturday night, Craig Shackleton gathered together a number of Paizo Origins attendees in the lobby of the Drury Inn in Columbus, OH and ran us through the first ever installment of a Pathfinder Society Scenario. The aptly named Frozen Fingers of Midnight kept a bunch of us up way too late as we explored Absalom in service of the Pathfinder Society. Our mission was to find the cause of a freezing...

A Trip to the FLGS!

... A Trip to the FLGS! Monday, January 7, 2008It's one thing to interact with readers of Pathfinder here on the internet, be it via messageboards or chat rooms, but it's certainly no replacement for face-to-face conversation. We're pretty sheltered here at Paizo, sequestered away in the not-large-enough room we semi-affectionately refer to as The Pit, and they don't let us out that often, with the notable exception of Gen Con. ... That all changed last month on December 19th, when Erik Mona,...

Happy New Year

... Happy New Year Tuesday, January 1, 2008And now, here we are in 2008! We've got a lot of exciting stuff planned for 2008, but there's just as much that's still evolving. Now's a great time to head on over to our messageboards and let us know what kind of products and adventures and blog posts you'd like to see from Paizo in the coming year. Who'd like to hear a Paizo Podcast? Is anyone interested in seeing a sequel to a particular GameMastery Module? Is there a market for Pathfinder...

Happy Erik Mona Day!

Happy Erik Mona Day! Thursday, November 8, 2007Never before have I felt this proud to be working at Paizo. ... At 4:41pm yesterday, a thread from messageboard regular Sebastian popped up on our boards declaring November 8th Erik Mona Day. Why remains a mystery (it's not even Erik's birthday!), but within hours, over a hundred and fifty people had posted to help celebrate, most of them donning Erik's signature cyclopean avatar. ... You got GameMastery in my Dragonlance!

You got GameMastery in my Dragonlance! Monday, October 1, 2007 ... While seeing folks play in our campaign world is of course the biggest compliment we can receive, here at Paizo, we understand that many people have been playing in alternative game worlds for a long time, and simply aren't interested in switching over. As a result, we're always excited when we hear about someone getting jazzed enough about our products to mine out ideas or convert them over to their favorite setting. ... Thus...

Pathfinder #4 Cover... and Desktop! Thursday, August 30, 2007In the past, each time we've shown off the cover to a new volume of Pathfinder, we've been immediately deluged with requests for it as a downloadable desktop background, which we inevitably put up a few days later. Gen Con Field Report Day Two

Gen Con Field Report Day Two Friday, August 17, 2007The second day of any four-day convention is typically referred to as the slow day.
