Dude, high marks for chilling on the boards and answering questions. I know you're probably crazy busy getting AoN tricked out for the changeover and I for one appreciate it.
I can't think of any specifics I wanted to bring up (aside from agreeing with both Michael Hallet and Zin Z'arin on the woes of d20PFSRD). I do use PFSRD significantly more, but that's mostly because I'm a creature of habit. I'd like to get into the habit of using AoN more, if for no other reason than I've started playing PFS regularly here on the boards, and it's nice to have the PFS-only option for searches.
As a general question, are there any changes you're planning as far as site functionality? I know you mentioned some coding changes, but as far as like, layout or anything? One example, on the PFSRD, they have an option to use "feat trees" to easily find feats based on specific prereq's (locating Furious Focus on the list by going to Power Attack, for example). Any thoughts on doing something similar on AoN?
The current idea is to do this per Feat - IE you would load up a Feat and there'd be a small list at the bottom of all Feats which list the one you're looking at as a prerequisite, and all Feats listed in the current Feat's own prereq list (so you can see what comes before and what comes after). I'd need to play with the look and feel, but that could accomplish a type of "dynamic" tree, dependent on which Feat you're viewing.

Aw, that's very kind of you Hawthwile! It's always good to see new people joining the PbP family. =D
On a totally unrelated note... I'm here to remind everyone that Paizo is offering a 10% discount (as Vic announced here) on any one order at paizo.com, as partial apology for all the website downtime issues. It expires on September 30th, so if there's anything you've been meaning to purchase make sure to use the coupon.

We can finally fix CORE characters now who were mistakenly created in the STANDARD Campaign!
—Thread in Website Feedback Forum about converting CORE characters—
If you have a character that needs converting, please post on that thread and let Whitney Chatterjee know!
(Whitney also said you can start a new thread, and anyone on the team can do the conversion.)

***Official Announcement***
Due to the site outages early during Gameday, we are moving the end of Gameday to November 19. We encourage GMs of games that are supposed to start on October 1 to find a start date between October 1 and October 15 that works for them and their players.
This announcement applies to normal games, not tables of Assault on Absalom. Tables of the special will still start on October 1, and should follow instructions from Overseer Dennis.

Apparently, we have been told that the old process is still in place — instead of contacting Website Feedback, these matters are supposed to go to the PFSReportingErrors@paizo.com.
Sorry for the misinformation,

Help! need a quick response id anyone is monitor this thread...I'm getting ready to run a PFS scenerio in just over an hr. One of my players hasn't played in several years and wants to bring his "old summoner" he said he looked up the ruling and it stated that any character that hit second lv before "Unchained" hit the bookstores didnt have to play an Unchained summoner and that I could "Grandfather him in" with his OP summoner.
Is this true? Don't really care but I don't want to make the game illegal or un-fun for everyone else
Grandmaster TOZ |
Yes, APG summoners are legal as long as they were played before the cutoff date. A scan of a chronicle would be enough to verify.

Hey Awesome PBPers!
Hope all your games are going well. We want to know how everything is going!
Please take this survey and ask your table mates to do so as well! We want to know how you are all doing!

I've seen the multi-attack Eidolons and they may be good at low levels, but after 5L when monsters start getting DR/cold iron(magic) and resist: 5(+) to elements, 4+ natural attacks doing 1-6 doesn't amount to much.
As far as Haste, I use Glitterdust, with Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus, at least 5x as often.
There isn't much else on the Summoner Spell list. They aren't boomers, they are support.

On paper the old Summoners seemed pretty awesome, but 'at the table' they only panned out as 'respectable'.
A lot of stuff looks good on paper, but so does a burger and fries.
That depends entirely on the build. I mean, if you want to, you can make a reasonably mediocre one, but you could also make them be very effective (although that is true for a lot of high-powered builds).

I "retired" my gnome summoner at level 6 after being forced to rebuild from synthesist and playing once with an actual Eidelon. A level 5 character's 4HD critter shouldn't be able to solo a Chaos Beast.

...and on average, it won't. AC 20, with four attacks at +13, will give most (un-buffed) Eidolons a solid run for their money at that level.
(The 'best' an Eidolon could be at that level would be a Biped with Strength 20 and 4 attacks at, at best, +10 (assuming all claws, and weapon focus), doing 1d6+5). AC 21/11/20. If we assume plenty of time for pre-buffs, sure, you could do Barkskin, Bull's Strength, Mage Armor, and Shield, which I grant you, would certainly skew things in favor of the Eidolon, by a wide margin, but then you have expended a *lot* of resources on one fight.
That said, an Unchained Summoner would be essentially the same, and a properly-buffed Druid's Tiger animal companion (even if you assume a 1 level dip into Sorceror for the 'Arcane' buffs) would be almost as effective.
(I'll refrain from posting on this topic any further, as I don't want to derail the thread any further.)

guys quick refresher on how to report a new player's pregen? ( I already gave both players new player pathfinder IDs) Do I put the pregen's name under name? Do I default to Grand lodge. Neither player had registered a character on Paizo yet... I think I got this just if anyone has some advice. (btw both newbs had a lot of fun and I told them to keep their Pathfinder ID#'s with the conformation code also directed them to the Paizo website Organized play tab. But, it was getting late and they needed to go home so I couldn't help them register a character.) update think I got my answers. A. don't put in the pregen's name (it will auto populate later when they register a character.) So I assume since neither player had an existing PFS character..I just add a -1 to their PFS I handed them correct? B. Grand Lodge is default...leave it alone they can change it later I believe.

A: That's how I've done it in the past. Seemed to work...at least a year ago (Been a while since I've encountered that situation
B: Yeppers. (Assuming that hasn't changed as well)

So some weird thought occured to me today, and I was curious if it'd hold water.
If there's a table playing a scenario and the GM disappears, and one of the players in the game has run it (either for no credit or it's an 'evergreen') could that player step up to run the scenario/module/whatnot?

Hi, everyone! This post contains an announcement of our next convention, starting in January. Right now we're only recruiting GMs, but I'll let you know here when we're ready to recruit players.
We will be running 4 older specials at the same time. I'm really looking forward to this, and hope a lot of you join us!
GM Hmm |
Four specials at once! What a great way to start off the new year!

Over three years ago, GM Harker was kind enough to pick up my group's CORE table of The Emerald Spire when our GM went AWOL. We've come a long way since then; we just finished The Tomb of Yarrix and Harker has a lot going on in RL and needs to step down as GM, for the time being at least.
We would love to have a new GM help us finish out this campaign since we've come so far. We are playing in pure PFS mode (not campaign mode). The thread is here. Harker may be amenable to coming back after a level or two if the next GM is not interested in committing to the entirety of the rest of the Emerald Spire.
We are also looking for a couple of extra CORE players; I'll post in Recruting about that.
Send me a PM if you're interested in being either a player or a GM.

Meanwhile, it looks like a couple of our tech complaints were fixed in that update. You can once again see who favorited your posts, and it's easier to change and set avatars.
So... Progress.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to make sure you're aware that the notifications for new private messages aren't working anymore. I would strongly recommend that everyone check their messages once a day or so, and also request people to be patient if someone doesn't respond to your message.

Anyone else having issues editing campaign?
Yep, I get bounced to an error page. Hope this gets fixed soon!

I'm having trouble posting in the Gameplay thread of a new campaign. It's currently empty and I'm ready to start gameplay. The Discussion and Recruitment threads work. Does anyone have any insight into what might be wrong?
EDIT: campaign link here

Is this the dreaded deleted the first post in gameplay problem? If you delete your first post in Gameplay, no one can post to the campaign until customer service goes in and fixes it.
Uhoh. I'm sure I remember deleting the first Gameplay post. I didn't know that was a thing (just started PbP a few months ago). How do I get customer service to fix it?

Or just start a new campaign thread and direct your players there.
