We have an upcoming game for part 2 of the Gameday that is in need of a replacement GM.
What? 9-22 - Grotto of the Deluged God (subtier 1-2)
When? Should begin circa October 6th as part of Gameday VII Part 2
Who? Players are already recruited... and you as the GM!Who would like to give this game a friendly GM home?
I'm afraid we can't distribute pdfs of the scenarios, and the deadline for official convention scenario support passed a while ago. The GM will have to provide the scenario for him- or herself.

Simply because I was looking to play but ended picking it up badly due to some factors including work intranet. Our GM seemed to have some RL problems and the group here is actually fun and solid to play with.
Originally we would have liked to play through the entire thing but I messed up. So anyone would like to picked it up?

I *might* have the drive and bandwidth to do so. Count me as your fallback. Did you have a thread created or is everything yet tbd?

So far all that has been done is recruitment of players. The campaign and gameplay thread have not yet been created.
There's still a little time so I'll consider you backup GM for now and leave it open if anyone else wants to claim GM rights. :)

Needing one player to replace someone in the Forged in Flame series (#8-09 and #8-11 for Tier 5-9- we are trending to high subtier). We are doing both scenarios consecutively, to end by the end of game day on November 30.
We are still in the early sections of the first scenario and haven't had any encounters yet, so full credit is available.

Hey All —
I have been dealing with a chronic family matter that is messy and awful. It’s likely going to be taking up much of my current bandwidth, and causing me distractions for the next few months until we can settle on a care solution. Real life is hitting, and so I need to drop one of my three current campaigns.
I am looking for a great GM to take over my 9-09 Halflight Path game, a game full of great players that played True Dragons of Absalom with Me.
If you think that you are an awesome GM that can see them home — can you PM me?
Thanks. I will be totally grateful to you.
Your VC,

Random Nota Bene, for whosoever may find value in it: The best DMing, at least in format, that I have ever seen on these boards was executed by someone who used ZORK as a model. I found it excellent for Play-by-Post, particularly with regards to avoiding the perils of confusion, loss of track and aimlessness.

Hey all —
Can any GM can watch over her games on Thursday and a few days after? A Cat 5 hurricane is coming to her area, and she’s looking for someone to cover in case of mass power outages and the other issues that come with hurricanes.
Yes, I know. Real life comes first — still, I’d like for us to take one worry off her hands.

Hello Awesome GMs!
Apparently I was too good a correspondent during the outage, because some GMs worried that they had missed emails! Well, don’t fret! We still have you listed. Yay!

Some important dates for the Specials!
SOLSTICE SCAR ends on September 26th
SCOURED STARS INVASION ends on September 28th
ASSAULT ON ABSALOM begins October 1st
NOTE: Tell us what GM boon you earned: Ganzi (PFS), Ferran / Woikio (SFS), or ACG in the note field when you report your game!
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
That’s right, we made changes to the special timelines so they are both due to finish ON TIME.
For those of you in other games, I hope things are going okay. We actually had two games finish and report — one on Paizo, and one on Mythweavers — both chapters of Adventure Paths. But I’m aware that we had a rocky start to this gameday, and that many of you lost quite a bit of posting time.
Interestingly at least one of our other forums —RPGgeek— has had intermittent downtime outages this week as they are upgrading. (Sigh. Right after Paizo recovered!)
We’re planning on doing a mid-point survey for players and GMs with email 16 in order to get a better pulse on how everyone is doing so far. Look for it in a few days.
Meanwhile, if your game is lagging behind, see below!

HILARY’S TIPS FOR SPEEDING GAMES BACK UP
I wanted to wait to share some of these until we had forum stability back. Well, we’ve been up for 11 days, so it’s time!
★ --- ONE. POST YOURSELF --- ★
Keep posting, and prodding. Also... communicate that you want to pick up the pace, and that you need their help to do it. If nothing’s happening in Gameplay and you must wait, use discussion or your group’s hangout and tell a joke or talk about your dog. Get them talking and interacting with you.
ProTip 1 if you use Hangouts: When you make a GM Post, tell them in the Hangout. You will not believe how much this will speed up some groups.
ProTip 2: Want to know if they are all there? Have them roll 1d20 for their player boons. Roll a d20. A 19 or a 20 wins a boon. If you or a player win, do another roll for each winner.
For ACG: Let them pick which one you get.
For PFS/Playtest: Roll a d4 to determine which one you get.
For Starfinder: Roll a d2 to determine which one you get.
There should be a drop down in the reporting form where you can mark who won what boons.
★ --- TWO. MAKE USE OF REASONABLE BOTTING --- ★
Waiting on a player? Bot their skill check or combat roll. Keep it moving. Get buy-in, and you can have your players bot each other.
One thing that I often do when speeding a game up is bot the last person in combat if against a single adversary, so that the whole team can then enjoy their turn in combat again. Warn your players if you plan to use that tactic, and be fair about it, but it will speed things up.
★ --- THREE. REPLACE PLAYERS THAT HAVEN’T SHOWN BACK UP --- ★
For this Gameday, consider games that are less than 1/3 complete to be ones from which disappeared players may be dropped without foul, and new players recruited.
★ --- FOUR. DROP HINTS, USE SPOILERS, OFFER CLUES --- ★
If you’ve been out for days, it’s easy to lose track of the story. Give your players a breadcrumb trail and let them gobble it up. Offer summaries of what has gone before.
★ --- FIVE. USE HOOKS AND PUSHES --- ★
Have NPCs address the player characters directly. Taunt them. Involve them. Present dilemmas and ask, “What do you do now?”
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
Oh, and a special message for all those in the path of Hurricane Florence. Our hearts go out to you. Stay safe!
Hugs,
Hmm
GM Evil |
If any gm’s need someone to watch their games due to the hurricane, I’m available. I have access to every scenario up to the newest season, and can buy any of those needed. Just send me a PM with a link to the thread and I’ll make sure things go smoothly until you’re ready to pick it back up. With such a hefty threat looming, the less small things you have to worry about, the better.
GM Eclipse |
Hey I noticed after reporting a game on the confirmation screen it didn't show where I marked a player won a boon. Is that showing on your side or is anyone else having the same visual "error"?
Magabeus |
Thanks GM Eclipse,
I guess you refer to reported game nr 6. I see that you have submitted the emailadress for a player, but not that they won a boon (or which boon it was).
Please forward the mail you received from the reporting system to me at replace_this_with_my_alias@orgplayonline.com and tell me what boon they won.
Thanks!

Why does it seem that a such a disproportionate amount of Pathfinder Society action takes place in, of all places, Isger (AKA "we're Cheliax's little b~&!*es and lovin' it")?
I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
Meh, between Cheliax, Druma, and Andoran next door, and the Goblinblood Wars in recent history, there's lots of hooks for them to use.
I'll admit, that's a f*@&in' weird spot to be in; I had no idea Druma and Andoran, of all two places, were so close to each other.

I personally do not believe it. No doubt it is a conspiracy of cartographers.

The PRD's Switch to Archives of Nethys
I found the site flawed before the switch, and no better now. One issue, just in the last 24 hours. I miss the ability to search and find universal monster rules. (I often create a hyperlink to the specific rule when posting, to enable GM/players to see for themselves the rule as written).
I'm sure many folks are fans of the Archives of Nethys, but I find the need to use the site annoying. I'm sure I'll become more familiar with navigating its method of presenting the rules, but in the meantime, it's just another frustrating irritant.
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
For the number of Iskger missions there apparently are, John has yet to return home for any of them through his first 9 sessions.

I too am having some trouble adjusting to navigating AoN, though I do like some of the formats better than the old PRD. I'm getting the feeling that there are a massive amount of options that I'll never have the source books for that I'll have to weed out constantly. I am quite happy the old PRD is around (archive version) for at least the time being.

Like a lot of folks, I usually post from work.
The firewall lets me get to Paizo. It does not let me get to Archives of Nethys, so I'm going to be guessing at some of the rules I don't remember. Or holding up games for hours until I can get to a book.
I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
Speaking of which, why are the Archives presently only going up to 6th-level in the "Spells" department - even for the 0-9 mages???
Zin Z'arin |
Oooooof. I like and have used AoN for a while, as it's been the better option than d20pfsrd for content that wasn't in the Paizo SRD.
But I always deferred to the Paizo SRD as the official source, so if it was in there, that's where I went.
I make EXTENSIVE use of hyperlinks in my character profiles. And now they pretty much ALL have to be updated.
Ugh.

Ah, doh - I know exactly why that bug is there. Part of the reason Spells loading time improved is because I migrated over code from Starfinder, where 6th level is the cap. It's a simple fix and I'll roll that out ASAP when I get home today. Sorry for the inconvenience!

The hyperlink issue is one I need to visit with Paizo, as they setup the redirect. I imagine it can be fixed - I used similar redirecting logic myself, and hyperlinks don't break there:
Example:
Old Link: http://archivesofnethys.com/SpellDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Cure%20Light%20Wound s
Successfully redirects to: http://aonprd.com/SpellDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Cure%20Light%20Wounds

Comparing the Archives of Nethys and d20pfsrd, I think I'll make more frequent use of the latter for now, mainly because I find its organization and search tool function more effective, given its greater similarity to the Paizo PRD.
I'll concede that AoN is prettier though, in a kind of goth teen way. Its black background makes me want to get some new tattoos and maybe some piercings.

Since you're presently manifesting before me, may I ask something I've always wanted to know: Why is your site dramatically slower to load than most other sites? While yours isn't the only site I frequently go to that is conspicuously more troublesome than everywhere else, it is in very sparse company (a thing called listverse.com is the other thing I can think of that's similar - I don't know why).

A lot of the PF-side code is archaic and built when I was first learning ASP/SQL - the Starfinder side is built more intelligently and you should see faster speeds there. The other reason it's ultimately slower than the old PRD/d20pfsrd in places is because I dynamically build the vast majority of the pages based on database tables. This allows one or two people to manage the huge deluge of content as we just need to update simple DB tables instead of editing a huge amount of pages. For example, the legacy PRD had over 3,000 files. The PF Archives has a little over 200 (and yet supports hundreds of books compared to the dozen or two on the legacy PRD).
Now, I still want things fast, so I'm going to be moving improved code back to PF over the coming months and you should see improvements. The Spells.aspx pages alone were already drastically improved over the weekend.

I have 2 real issues with the 20pfsrd.
1. The fact that they've had to change the names of some things to remove Paizo trademarks, such as deity names makes some things much harder to find. Can my cleric use that particular channeling feat? No idea, it might have a deity restriction that isn't listed in d20pfsrd.
2. The fact that an entry on d20pfsrd only lists the latest source the rules item was printed in whereas AoN lists all the sources. This has on more than one occasion caused some confusion as to whether something was legal for PFS due to the older sources not being listed.
DebugAMP |
I had a tendency to bounce back and forth between the PRD and AoN when building characters. I've always found that the search feature on AoN to be vastly superior when looking for character options simply due to the filters. I do however often find it difficult searching for a very specific feat since that same string may be present in dozens of other class features, magic items, feats, etc. I do hope that at some point in the future a search bar is added to the top or side of each page for the purpose of searching on name alone.
Admittedly, the search for PRD was pretty awful at finding relevant results for me...
I think as soon as google searches for 'power attack pathfinder' or 'power attack aon' result in a high or top position for the actual power attack entry in AoN, I don't think I'll find myself looking back at all. With the new wave of traffic, I'm sure that'll just be a matter of time.

Also on an unrelated note...
3. That darn pop-up

Dude, high marks for chilling on the boards and answering questions. I know you're probably crazy busy getting AoN tricked out for the changeover and I for one appreciate it.
I can't think of any specifics I wanted to bring up (aside from agreeing with both Michael Hallet and Zin Z'arin on the woes of d20PFSRD). I do use PFSRD significantly more, but that's mostly because I'm a creature of habit. I'd like to get into the habit of using AoN more, if for no other reason than I've started playing PFS regularly here on the boards, and it's nice to have the PFS-only option for searches.
As a general question, are there any changes you're planning as far as site functionality? I know you mentioned some coding changes, but as far as like, layout or anything? One example, on the PFSRD, they have an option to use "feat trees" to easily find feats based on specific prereq's (locating Furious Focus on the list by going to Power Attack, for example). Any thoughts on doing something similar on AoN?
Pete H. |
Thank for all the work you do on AoN. Minor feature request.
Give the Search function a Select All/Deselect All option. I often have broad keyword searches that want to filter down to specific category like "luck" magic items. a little hassle to deselect all but one.
Thanks again!
It does. Try the check all/uncheck all buttons.

Thinking of starting up a Tapestry's Toil game for those that missed out on game-day part two sign-ups. Kinda gauging interest here, before I move it to the recruitment thread. If any of you GMs know of a player who missed out (that wants to play) or you missed out yourselves (busy GMing perhaps?) I'm thinking of running this season 6 scenario in tier (5-6)..
Anyone is welcome but I'd prefer to get some players who have missed out, on some of the Game-day games.
Anyway PM me if you know a likely player or you yourself have interest. I'll likely post something in the recruitment thread if there's enough interest.
