Yikes, and there's 5 holy symbols :( This could get VERY nasty.

Fortunately, the 3.X designers only make you paralyzed for 0 Dex and unable to move for 0 Str, instead of deciding that you now need to worry about the suffocation rules.
We can use lesser restoration to get Aero back on his feet, but he'll only have 1d4 Dex. Enough to move around, but not enough to have any AC or other Dex-based abilities.
Also, that would require waiting until the poison has run its course. If we dose him immediately, he's going to keep taking dex damage afterward, reversing the potion/scroll pretty quickly. I'm not sure we're that forward-thinking. Do we even have a way to check if he's poisoned anymore? I know I don't have detect poison.
DM Pendin Fust |
That's going to be your guys' call. I would imagine that Nebbin at least would want to go back to the Heart for healing. I don't know how stubborn Aero would be though. :)
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
For every 2 points of damage you take to a single ability, apply a –1 penalty to skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability. If the amount of ability damage you have taken equals or exceeds your ability score, you immediately fall unconscious until the damage is less than your ability score. The only exception to this is your Constitution score. If the damage to your Constitution is equal to or greater than your Constitution score, you die. Unless otherwise noted, damage to your ability scores is healed at the rate of 1 per day to each ability score that has been damaged. Ability damage can be healed through the use of spells, such as lesser restoration.
So Aero is out for the count, and lesser restoration isn't going to help, because he's going to be deeply in the negative (it doesn't stop at 0). 4 points of DEx isn't going to get him up. We need a full restoration.
And we agreed we don't have time to retreat to the Heart for more restorative magic if we want to hit the third safehouse.
So as much as I want to hit the third safehouse, I'm not sure it's a good idea (since we'd be needing to leave Aero 'in a safe place'), and it isn't fair to Pirate Rob to leave him twiddling his thumbs while we take two weeks to empty a building that may or may not have a threat on the level of Faxon or a multi-purpose gas bomb in it.

I think those are fair arguments, Ross. Hopefully we can get back to the third spot after our assault. So, back to HQ.
Alternatively, Thom and Saoirse never made Perception checks to notice the paste, so a nice GM could let us retcon those in. Or more fairly, any of us could have tried the Heal or Knowledge Nature checks after Aero noticed the paste on the first one. Looks like we didn't really get a chance to react to that observation -- i.e. he picked up the rest of the symbols on the same post he noted the paste.

I'm fine with everyone making their rolls. Being a PbP things like this happen :)
Thanks Ross, I knew that part was SOMEWHERE I just couldn't find it for some reason.
I'll allow you all 3 rolls to notice or identify the poison. Basically, in my mind, you'd have looked at the holy symbols, then you'd have rolled once Aero started feeling worse, then you'd have rolled when he fell to the ground.
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
Lucius wouldn't have rolled Perception, as he would have been some distance back and wouldn't succeed with his +0 modifier anyway. However, when he hears someone mention poison, he would remember he has antitoxin in his pack. That'll be too late for the first saves, but would affect subsequent saves.
Not sure a +2 is much help by then, against that DC, but it is what it is.
DM Pendin Fust |
The 2nd and 3rd would be DC 20 and 22 respectively...not entirely unobtainable. I'd say it is definitely possible that you could have given the antitoxin in that timeframe.
DM Pendin Fust |
Sorry all, I'm amidst chaos still, I just got offered another position at Siemens and I've got a slew of meetings at my current job. I probably won't get a good post in until Saturday.
DM Pendin Fust |
It is, but my current company is trying to keep me. Now I have to decide which I want. I like my current job and company. They are offering close to what the new company is offering, with promises (that I plan to ask for in writing) of paying more including some licensing royalties than the offer from new company in 60 days.
DM Pendin Fust |
Running is always an option...they haven't noticed you yet :) But then again...CULTISTS!!!
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
If our track record is any indication, we'd come crawling back to the Heart, needing another cleric to bail us out again. If we survive the assault on the garrison (which will probably be better defended than two hole-in-the-wall safehouses), perhaps there will be time to mop up Nyserian Manor afterward or the next day.
DM Pendin Fust |
And a new map under my name. You'll have to zoom out at initial load.
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
Oops, I meant to change that to 10 +1 evil outsider bane bolts. I changed the 2 melee weapons to fit the group, but I forgot the ranged ones. They are bolts. For a crossbow :)
I was considering asking Anevia along to shoot those (Nebbin and Saoirse can use bows, but neither is play to strength by doing so.)
But since they are bolts, Lucius and Thom can split them up.
DM Pendin Fust |
If you'd prefer to keep them arrows and ask Anevia along we can play it that way. I just didn't want to railroad you all into needing her to come along to use them.
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
Well, I'd feel kind of bad if we brought her along only to get killed. And since this is supposed to be a semi-covert mission, there does come a point where we can't add more members (or we'd just march the whole mass of troops in.)
But it would make a semi-diplomatic solution: "She can't stay here, but you can come with her." And then the tables would be turned and Irabeth would be having to explain why Anevia can't go.
Thom. |
Thom's less concerned with being diplomatic here. :D
I'm actually fine either way. There's no shortage of historical or literary examples of strong leaders taking an active hand in crucial events, so it makes sense for her to go (or at least want to go). On the other hand ... storming what is likely the local enemy stronghold to take out the artifact that they spent all this effort capturing in order to subvert its powers? Seems like a long-shot on success, and the Crusaders have to be thinking of contingency plans ... up to and including who is going to protect the fragmented remainder of the population when/if they have to evacuate?
Thom. |
Just a general heads up, my wife and I are in the thirty day window of our third child's expected delivery date. Basically, she could come any day now.
I'll do my best to keep you guys updated, and I'll even do my best to be able to make a brief post every now and then in the week or two after the delivery, but my time and priority will obviously be with the wife and kiddos.
Consider yourselves warned. :)
DM Pendin Fust |
Congrats!!
Ok, I will try to get a post up today, but I'm finishing a thesis paper which is due very soon. I have dedicated much of today to that.
Nebbin Elsbet |
I have to play tennis this afternoon with my fiancee and a friend of hers and then we're hanging out in the back yard with some chicken tacos I made and a couple cigars I bought.
Despite this, I expect I'll still post pretty regularly. :)
EDIT: Oh, and premature congrats.
DM Pendin Fust |
Update possibly tonight...likely tomorrow. Stupid thesis.
Thom. |
well, take care of yourself, man. As excited as I am to get going on the Garrison (and believe me, i'm itching to bash some more demon-lover heads), it's more important that our DM be able to maintain his sanity and enthusiasm about the game.
Tacticslion |
Absolutely, Eben: the same thread! (It's not necromancy, if it never truly died...) :D
Always glad to see you, Pendin!

It looks like we could move through the wrecked buidling we're currently behind. It would have more cover than trying to dash to the other building, even if it is slightly further away.
Does Nebbin have a 40 ft base speed? Or is he encumbered/armored/traded fast movement to become an Invulnerable Rager?
Because if I'm counting squares properly, he could charge the left guy from the door at the front of the wreckage, and someone with 30 ft movement could charge the right guy. Hrmm. But that might just mean Aero, and I doubt he's going to bring someone down in one hit the way Nebbin or Soairse could.
Thom. |
Saoirse actually moves 30, too. So all three could make the attempt at bumrushing. As far as Stealth goes: Nebbin +3, Saoirse +0, Aero -1.
Making our invulnerable raging barbarian hulking brute the stealthiest in the bunch. You know what they say ... walk softly and carry a big quarry hammer.
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
Nebbin Elsbet |
Indeed. When you're Nebbin's size, you have to move carefully. And quietly not to disturb other people.
Nebbin can however move very quickly (i.e. 40 ft. move) so that triple charge plan works for me.
