The items are a ring of ferocious action (surprise!), a ring of protection +1, a wand of magic missiles, an oil of align weapon and a vial of silversheen. Illa's not sure what one of the rings and one of the wands are.
As she's looking, a guard comes rushing up to the group.
"Th-th-the orcs are approaching the gate! I think they want to parlay!" he stammers.
Another guard finds Dyalg in the kitchen and delivers a similar message.

I think it is appropriate to share loot with them. I can't think of any roleplaying reason why we would not yet still share with each other.

Gah! Somehow my post for a game showed up in this discussion thread! Sorry about that! How odd...
Embarrassing...
Also, looks like the mongrelmen aren't interested in the coins. So that'd be an 8-way division if we include Gwerm, Anevia and Aravashnial or 9 if we also include party split.
That's be 16 coins for everyone (with one excess coin), or 14 coins for everyone and 17 for the party funds.

DM Pendin Fust |

To be honest, unless you really WANT to worry about coinage, we can divvy it up later.
Also, Aravashnial's thing about the bodies may not necessarily be what you WANT to do...

- Ravana - |

I'd have been willing to let him carry them until they became a problem but I also don't mind making him come back for them.
Proof rarely means much when you are pointing out traitors in their midst. If they were inclined to believe you before, they'd be inclined to now. What it mostly does is put a big target on your head that says, "Kill me and nobody else has to know."

- Ravana - |

PS: I've never played Pathfinder Society and have thought about trying it out. I've made a character at 10th level and if I decide to go with her, I'll de-level her to first.
My Reign of Winter game gives some kind of credit for Pathfinder Society characters so Wrath of the Righteous might as well. Either way, if any of you play PFS, please look at Morrigan and let me know if you think she'd be viable. I hear there is a lot of cheese in PFS and while I want to role play, I don't want to get blown away either.

Nebbin Elsbet |

Any thoughts on good rage powers for Nebbin? I've never played a barbarian before, and obviously I still haven't had a chance to rage.
I've looked through a few class guides and they seem to suggest superstition as the best opportunity, but that doesn't really feel like Nebbin... (though I really like the spell sundering power later on, so I might just bite the bullet and go with superstition anyway, perhaps explaining it as connected to his exposed to awfulness trait).

Aero Skyfall |

Ravana: I play and GM *alot* of PFS. I find there to be a lot more players interested in roleplaying rather than playing optimize the battlebots. That said every PFS group is different, some will be full of amazing roleplayers while others will be full of cheese-weasels.
Most will be somewhere inbetween although I doubt you'll find anybody else who's put quite as much work into their characters as you have yours with the artwork and extensive backstory etc.
Unfortunately there is no sanctioning for Wrath of the Righteous so no PFS credit from here.
I only glanced at your character but nothing seemed off to me. Mounted small characters are very strong mechanically, double so when flying. I don't think you will have any trouble contributing to combat. You also have useful skills for contributing to exploration related challenges but you may want to consider what your plan is for social encounters. (Your plan may be to be bad it, but you should at least know what you're getting into)

DM Pendin Fust |

DM, I have to say you're doing a great job with the chief. I actually feel bad about taking his heirloom morningstar in exchange for the booch.
Thanks Ross! Hopefully it's not just the chief :-D
Nebbin, I personally like the breaker archetype...and it would fit well with your backstory as a laborer.
I'll second Aero's comments...I've been in a game he runs and he's great. I haven't found any combat simulator groups yet and noone's belabored some of my suboptimal builds. If it's flavorful and fun most people will like the character.
(Awesome PDF by the way...I was part of that Kickstarter as well)

Not looking at any optimization guides, I see a lot of straightforward damage-increasing ones I'd grab if I were playing a barbarian. What do you imagine Nebbin's fighting style to be?

motteditor RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |

Pendin, I was thinking of going with invulnerable rager. I can see why breaker would work with him, but I like the idea of having one big weapon -- I was planning to make his earthbreaker a legendary weapon when he gets his first mythic tier and just have it become a real powerhouse.
Ross, I was thinking pretty much going straight two-handed weapon. I suspect he'll just get in there and pound away. Especially at the start, he's going to be pretty unfocused, learning how to be more of a warrior as the campaign goes on.
Speaking of which, Nebbin wouldn't think to sell that warhammer he's got, but if we want to trade it for some other goods in the city, it's certainly available.

Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |

Powerful Blow or Mighty Swing are the core options I'd look at, but as I said, I have no idea if they're actually good.
Lucius doesn't have much of a shopping list. A couple scrolls might be good, but if they prefer food over coin we don't have a whole lot to barter with. If Ravanna is still short a melee weapon, we should buy one for her. Get one for Horgus, as well.
If we're packing for combat, rather than a quick escape (that is, if we agree to hunt the rebel mongrels), Lucius might want to grab a crossbow. But again, expensive.
Who should take the morningstar? It would do the most good in the hands of someone who plans to make more attack rolls, but I'm not sure it fits the style of Saiorse or Nebbin. Lucius will take it if no one else does, since a morningstar is basically a mace anyway.
It's the most valuable thing we have, but we can't trade it here.

Nebbin Elsbet |

In character terms, I think it'd be a bit rude to trade it here anyway, considering he just gave it to us. It's also our first magic weapon, so probably makes sense to hold onto it in case we come up against something that can only be hurt by magic weapons even if it's not immediately anyone's primary weapon (I know we have Terendelev's scales, but they can only go so far).

- Ravana - |

I've been looking at where to take Ravana as I hadn't looked into it too much when I made her. She can go a couple of different paths:
1) Druid/Barbarian Overrun Specialist
2) Druid/Cavalier Mounted Combat
3) Summoner type
Am I our only divine caster? If so, I should avoid the Overrun specialist as I would take mostly Barbarian levels after 2nd. Nebbin, you might want to look into an overrun specialist and if you go that route, I will avoid it. They can be frightfully effective.
Pendin, is it a problem if I change my character a little before going 2nd level? I'd like to dump Scribe Scroll and up my dex a few points to do the mounted route. Please let me know how you would feel about those changes.

DM Pendin Fust |

I'm fine with those changes Ravana, and Lucius I will allow to take infernal healing.

Nebbin Elsbet |

How are we doing HP? Rolling or average or average+1?
Ravana, I'm not really seeing Nebbin as an overrun specialist. I think he's more of a rock who hammers anything that tries to get past him to what he's protecting. I can certainly be talked into something different, though.
Nebbin gets +1 BAB, +1 Fort save, +1 rage power (Superstition).
Skills: +1 Acrobatings, Climb, Know (nature), Perception, Survival
+1 hp from favored class bonus
He should be fully updated now except for hp.

Saoirse Palelight |

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of posts. Got swamped by work. I'll make a more full post when I get home tonight. As a quick aside, Ravana will be our only divine caster for this group. The Warrior of the Holy Light archetype replaces Paladin spells with a group wide buffing halo thing. Saoirse would be willing to take the magic weapon, as a crusader she tries to be prepared for most enemies she might face and she's definitely run into the undead before. Also, DM Pendin, I'll be sending you a PM later tonight about some stuff involving my character.

- Ravana - |

Hmmm, I'll stay caster druid and keep scribe scrolls then. I'll need it if I don't want to constantly have random effect removal spells memorized.
I'm going to go mounted then. I was considering growing elk horns and then running around in a circle knocking everyone over and then stomping on them. That requires a lot of levels in barbarian or warrior however, so I'll skip it.
No worries. Lance mounted druids = very effective and I'll get headed in that direction.

DM Pendin Fust |

HP I will give the group a choice. We can go half plus 1 or roll it out.
Makes no difference to me :-)
-Posted with Wayfinder

DM Pendin Fust |

Ok we have a majority! Half + 1 it is!
Also, if we get to something like level 6 and you realize that your character vision isn't turning out the way you wanted mechanically I will be open to re-jiggering the abilities/skills/etc. one time to get it back on track with what you want.
Same goes for Mythic Tiers. It's a new system and every 3 tiers I will probably do a check-in to see if you like the abilities you chose and allow you to rebuild the mythic portion every 3 tiers if you don't like what you've chosen.

Nebbin Elsbet |

Cool. Thanks, DM. Adding in half+1 hp, which would be 7, plus Con and favored class bonus for 10 total. Nebbin's a HP machine!
Time to get back to in-game posting, everyone!

Nebbin Elsbet |

Doesn't matter what my AC is -- I'm smart enough to stay out of fights and leave that to you crusaders! : )
Seriously, I can't wait to get a chance to try Nebbin in a fight. I'm so unused to doing mainly martial characters...

Aero Skyfall |

As a note I will be leaving mid day Thursday for a convention and won't be back till Sunday night. I should have internet at the hotel but not much in the way of free time.

DM Pendin Fust |

Just noticed that Mythic Adventures is now on the PRD! Yay!

Nebbin Elsbet |

I've kind of tried to build up Anevia's character to keep this fact...not a secret...but not something she up and tells everyone all the time. There's further reason in her backstory as well that I believe plays into why she before kept sure to only mention a name or "significant other" type phraseology.[/ooc]
Yeah, I went back to make sure she never mentioned husband/Ari's gender (sadly I spoiled it for myself a little before realizing I really didn't want to know even that much about the adventure path since I'm playing in it) so I could play Nebbin being confused.

DM Pendin Fust |

Super interesting character. Now I'm trying to figure out how far she's willing to explain it to Nebbin :)

DM Pendin Fust |

All, quick question I'm posing in my games, if we go 24 hours waiting for a character, I will DMPC those actions. Is that good for everyone?

- Ravana - |

That's fine with me as well. So far however, all you'd have to do for Ravana is "Ravana stands beside the wounded, waiting for the fight to be over."
I'm looking forward to getting out of these caverns. 8)

Nebbin Elsbet |

Just FYI, with Thanksgiving and Chanukah this week, I don't know how much posting I'll be doing between now and Saturday (games I'm not actually running are easier to keep up with, but even then I'll be on the road for a few days and visiting with family). I'm free and back home Saturday so expect to be able to post, but then don't know about Sunday. Monday I should be back to normal -- except I could have jury duty. :/

Aero Skyfall |

Hey guys, since we're in pbp land and can have side discussions without interrupting the game I wanted to discuss our party a bit.
I feel like we're a bit divided in purpose and motivation. Do we slaughter the demon worshipers? How closely aligned are we with the crusaders etc?
While we're all our own characters and that's wonderful, when our combats leave multiple characters uninterested enough to not take actions, I worry a bit.
Maybe I'm a bit to used to assuming party cohesion and am just being paranoid, but I'm worried a little.
How can we as players work better together to help make sure we all have a good time?

Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |

I think the 'default' WotR assumption was supposed to be that your reason to be in Kenabres had something to do with joining the crusades, to give the party an initial motivation. This accounts for much of the party: Soarise and Aero are both Good and aligned with the crusades. Lucius is Lawful, and thus his crusader motives are closer to 'expunge the demons' than 'protect the people', but that should be close enough.
I'm not worried about Nebbin: I think his narrative is clear. If he is personally threatened or things start going poorly for the group, he'll be shocked into action, raging and swinging a big hammer. And after a few fights, he'll start feeling more like a warrior and less like a quarryman who just wants to go home.
I am worried about Ravanna. I'm not sure she has a lot of motivation to stay with the group once we get to the surface.

DM Pendin Fust |

Sorry for not seeing this earlier!
I am also struggling with some of these early encounters to keep character's motivated. Coming up are more...flexible...encounters. I think the biggest thing here is that until you are out on the top that you'd be doing anything to survive and fight your way up.
Nebbin doesn't have me worried...I'm actually really happy with the character choices.
That goes for everyone by the way. You've all made the story great with your characters.
Ravana's got some motivations I need to try and work in, which is completely my fault for not doing so far.
And Happy Turkey to everyone celebrating!
