That is true...it is very probable. My ideas I had for giving Ravana some motivation could certainly be used as a reason for absence from the party as well.
Ravana, do you think in April you'd be able to rejoin or would you be set on withdrawing?

Aw man! Sigh...just one more vote....ok.
In that case I'm going to take Ravana's word that she WON'T be able to rejoin us. I would like a 5th player as this AP gets a little out of hand at times.
Any of you that has anyone interested in playing please contact them. I trust your judgments on players.

Hey, everyone. Mott invited me to check out this game to possibly replace your recently-lost druid.
I think I've pbp'd with a few of you. I'm a fairly consistent poster. I like rp and combat, and I love writing. (Mott can give you his opinion of my gaming style if you'd like a reference, though I looks like DM Pendin Fust is a player in one of my games already.. so that's helpful).
I have a character concept in mind for this AP. If you guys are interested, I could give you an outline (as well as some a build—it's a melee-focused Oracle of Life).
What would you guys like to hear/know about me or my concept?
motteditor RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |
I do indeed enjoy playing with Eben (especially as a GM, he made it very easy for me, which can be helpful when we get to higher levels especially and you have to keep track of a slew of rules).
DM, he's Nic in our Fires Over Blackcrag game.
I'm up for hearing the character concept. Hopefully there'll be an easy way to integrate it into the group quickly despite our being trapped however far below Kenabres.
DM Pendin Fust |
Ahhhhh I thought I recognized Eben TheQuiet!
Sure give me a concept. I will say that I'm not very familiar with Oracles...and I'm not entirely convinced I "get" the class when I ran an Oracle as part of another adventure I was GMing.
Eben TheQuiet |
I'll PM you the details.
I don't want to toss all the background info in the general discussion, but the gist is this.
Thom (name undecided, but I like it) is a half-orc. It's intentionally an odd name for a half-orc, as is the fact that he's attired and equipped like a traditional Crusader... down to the robes, armor, and longsword. Oddly, he wears a full-face silver mask of a human's face. Never takes it off. He'll likely be somewhat quiet in general, though a good enough bloke most of the time. his hatred for everything from the Worldwound would become evident pretty quickly.
Mechanically, he's a half-orc Oracle of Life with the Wasting curse. high strength, middling con and charisma, everything else is average. He'll look and act like a crusader, first and foremost, which I'm hoping is a little odd given the rarity of half-orcs in Mendev. An additional oddity is his clothes and mask. he'll always be keeping his skin completely covered (if possible) to hide his curse.
Heavy armor, big shield, longsword, with some skills, channeling/healing revelations, and spells to buff and heal. So he's hopefully a solid melee healer.
I'll send you the full write-up and mechanics via PM, DM. Let me know what questions or concerns you have.
Anyone else have any questions or thoughts?

Also, regarding Oracles. I generally prefer spontaneous casters over readied ones, and I'm trying to get over my aversion to playing healers.
Oracles, especially ones with some interesting flavor or combat options, are my way of trying to figure them out. Nic was a bit of an experiment, as will Thom be.
Pirate Rob |
Here is my lvl 1 melee oracle of life. She's just designed to be used as a quick entry into PFS pbps and not be played above level 1 but she may provide you some inspiration at least.
Welcome aboard!
DM Pendin Fust |
Got it and responded. I'll work up a solid way to introduce you into the story.

I'm actually pretty happy to have an Oracle instead of a Cleric, because a Cleric of most crusader deities would be arguing theology with Lucius all the time. I have a slight concern about all three casters in the party being spontaneous, but that just means we'll need to coordinate spell selections when we level up to make sure we're not duplicating each other too much.
In a few levels when a Cleric's ability to prepare the correct curative spell off his list the next day would normally be becoming relevant, we may want to invest some gold into going into a temple and building a "first aid kit" of potions and scrolls for Thom, so he can fix specific conditions without necessarily needing to spend precious spells known on remove blindness/paralysis/curse/etc.
Unless Thom is planning to take all of those spells to stick with his healer theme, anyway. The game is resilient, and I'm not one to judge there since I'm running Lucius with a sub-optimal spell list myself.
The silver mask is a bit weird, has a bit of a Razmir vibe to it. That's good, though. Gives him an identity.
Eben TheQuiet |
I'd rather go with the First Aid kit (and would definitely be looking to invest into some scrolls like that at some point, anyway), and leave spell selection to more fun stuff, but I guess we'll see. And I'm all about coordinating to get the most bang for our spontaneously-cast buck. :)
Yah, weird was the goal. I didn't realize the Razmir vibe, but i don't think it works against his concept. I'm going to keep digging for that avatar image. Hopefully i'll come across it (and wasn't simply making it up).

Love those avatars. Those Razmiran masks are some of my favorite pieces of a lot of great Paizo art.
And I say go for whatever spells people want (though some coordination is obviously smart). Granted, I can fall into some class optimization, but I would hate to think that's ever what I cared about most over role-playing (hence why I'm still torn on superstition -- it doesn't seem to fit Nebbin, but I think that spell sundering ability that comes later does).

I will be out of town Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon, will likely lack internet. Should still see something from me Thursday morning and Friday evening though.

Hello Eben! Welcome to the group. :) I'm looking forward to seeing an Oracle in a group. I've never actually played with one before. ^_^
DM Pendin Fust |
So I just PM'ed Thom with my idea for introducing him, and if he agrees then you should be meeting him soon AND I get to play out Ravana's plot thread.

I'll go ahead and switch Focused Mind for that. Since I left who that deity that shunted him into his new body as a mystery to me (and up to you to decide), do you care what domain or subdomain I choose for his trait ability? I'm leaning towards stuff that grants Vengeance, Retribution, Rage, or Justice angles. If any of those are fine with you, I'll pick one.
If you have a preference, let em know and I'll go with that.
Other than that, Thom is ready to rock. :)

Did you take a campaign trait? I don't have the player guide handy, but I recall there was one that would go well with the wasting curse.
I grabbed my PDF of the player's guide. I think I was thinking of Exposed to Awfulness and Stolen fury as being good explanations for a wasting condition.
Thom. |
The Wasting condition is actually tied to a backstory component, though Exposed to Awfulness certainly would fit. Only problem is that it's tailored for a mage (with the Arch Mage tie-in), and the fluff it gives is counter to Thom's story.
I went with Touched by Divinity, which actually fits his story nicely, if not completely in the way they positioned it in the players' guide.
I appreciate the pointer, though.

No toe-stepping. I do appreciate it. I kind of hastily put this guy together.
And, sheesh. Should I go with something else?
I could probably make Touched by Awfulness work. The mechanical benefit is definitely nice (as I'm replacing Focused Mind).

Well, don't switch to Exposed to Awfulness if you're worried about overcrowding. Nebbin and Soarise both have that one.

Agreed with Ross. Take what fits the character.
And yes, Thom, I'm perfectly fine with that choice in deity.
Saoirse Palelight |
Hey guys. I wanted to let you all know I'm still here, I just thought I'd give Lucius and everyone else some time to shine. Getting a shiny sword was enough for me for a bit. :D
