Awww you realized! There goes my plan....:)

Was it zombies? I bet it was Zombies.

Did we make a decision on who's tracking the redeemed? Did you want to do that on the treasure list, Ross? If not, as noted, I'm happy to do it...

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Yep it's on the loot list on the 2nd tab. I can keep track of it there too.

Don't worry about zomibes, Ross and I will just use our awesome mind control powers on them... errr...

Was Thom offered one of the pouches? I don't know if Gwerm would consider him part of the team that made good on that deal.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Hm. Actually he wouldn't unless we want to pretend that you were always part of the group?

I'm fine either way but it would be 1,000 gp less for Thom. Of course, that amount doesn't really mean much in adventures....

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

Yah, i'm not all that concerned about it. Let's go with what makes sense in-character.

I forgot to mention I'd added it there. Anything else we want to track?

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

At the moment I can't think of anything. There's something else I'm tracking but it's supposed to be invisible to you guys so it is not on the spreadsheet.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Shouldn't Thom have another couple spells, or did I forget/miss something?

Lucius has two more first level spells left, and he's fully loaded on alchemical items and crossbow bolts. Everyone is at full health, too. We can definitely handle another (CR-appropriate) fight or two, and if we're lucky enough to encounter humanoids in small numbers, might even talk our way past.

But we don't want to get caught out at night. And while I'm doubting, OOC-wise, that (excessive) bad things have happened at Defender's Heart, Lucius still has doubts, so we want to allow enough time to travel there, look around, and retreat back to the Gwerm estate if there is nothing where Defender's Heart should be.

(Also, Lucius's pack is either a medium or heavy load for him at this point, Aravashnial is blind, and Anevia still has a crooked leg. It's possible that everyone is just exhausted.)

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

Thom's got 2 first level spells remaining as well as 2 channels (of the non-Selective type).

So he's still got some healing oomph left in him. I agree with your assessment; it all depends on how long we anticipate it will take us to walk to the Heart.

Your suggestion about allowing enough time for us to make it back before dark if it becomes necessary is a good one... I hadn't considered that.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

That's the other decisions...are you beelining to Defender's Heart or are you going to investigate the other places on that note and also Anevia's place? That's scattered throughout the city and you'd need a base of operations if you want to do all that.

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

You can load Nebbin down with more stuff if you want, Lucius. He's happy to play pack mule.

I've only used two rounds of rage, so am happy to keep going.

And while Nebbin wouldn't argue this, his player would say let's see if we can use Defender's Heart as a base of operations (if not, we'll come back and use Gwerm's) and from there explore the other places in the note.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

That's what I was thinking.

Regarding carrying, Lucius will come around before too long, but right now he's still a little paranoid about letting someone else lug 'his' stuff, if the idea has occurred to him at all.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

Agreed. So DM, if we headed straight towards the Defender's Heart, how long would it likely take us? That's going to determine Thom's vote on whether we go now or stay the night before setting out.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

If nothing else happens on the way you could probably get there in an hour at Anevia's pace. That would make it really close to sundown...if nothing else happens.

DM Pendin Fust wrote:
Just want to confirm then that you are all planning to stay in the mansion for the evening/night? If so, then please describe where you will be staying. Basement, 1st floor, or 2nd floor?

Lucius is learning to apply his intellect to thinking though possible outcomes. He'd want to set up camp on the first floor, in corner room if possible (so they can see out two sides of the house.)

First floor because the basement has no windows (and to give Horgus space, lest his hospitality evaporate), and the first floor is the one with all the exits.

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

That logic makes sense to me. We should see if we can barricade some of the entrances as well. If anyone's capable, maybe set up some sort of trap, or at least an alarm?

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Sounds reasonable.

Describe for me if you DO decide to barricade...if you DO decide to have a light or two and any Stealth or Perception rolls you think you need. :)

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

I don't Lucius would think barricade...but he would think 'inconspicuous', which probably means pulling the curtains closed to hide any light sources, while the person on watch sits between the curtain and the window, as not to spoil their night vision.

Using any handy tapestries or rugs as blackout curtains, if necessary.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Of course...with titanic demons and whole buildings shattered, the 2nd floor could just mean a longer distance to fall :)

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Eh. That's in the 'doomed anyway' column.

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

OK, having peeked at the spoiler, let's make a quick decision about where we want to stay -- no reason to get held up here, IMO. The vault's probably safest, and if Gwerm's inviting us, I think that makes sense.

Human HP 21/21 | AC:16 T:11 FF:15 CMD: 13 | F+1 R+4 W+4 | Percpetion +7 | 30ft: +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws against fear and charm effects

I agree, laying low in the vault makes the most sense.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Lucius would still prefer to stay in a room with visibility and more than one way out, but it looks like he's outnumbered and he's certainly safer with the group than by himself. The vault it is.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Sorry I took so long to make just proceed. I was waiting too long to see if there was more discussion, but I will try to make sure in the future that I try to move things along. I always want to let you guys run your course since I love your characters and your roleplay!

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

It's a balancing act, I've found.

Generally, I think Painlord's Rule of 2 (under Roleplay with No Limits) is a good one to follow. It's typically very easy to go back and "retcon" in some role-play with a simple "Earlier" notation.

PBPs are all about momentum, and pushing that along by both players and GM is IMO incredibly important.

Woohoo! However, it may take me a little while. I'm finishing up a writing assignment and getting ready to leave for a trip overseas (I'll remind you all at the time, but I don't expect to be online at all May 2-11, plus maybe a day or two at the end of that as I recover from jetlag/get back in the swing of things).

Also, DM, would you mind if I possibly replace superstition? I haven't used it yet. I may keep it, since I really like the rage powers it serves as a prerequisite for, but it seems so counter to what Nebbin's about that it's been bugging me.

ETA: Do we have stuff to sell? I seem to have lost the link to our loot. I don't know if we want to try to pool resources to buy a wand of CLW or something along those lines.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

I'm fine if you'd like to replace superstition.

Take your time with your assignment and packing (where are you heading to BTW?)

You do have stuff to sell. Link

Re: Leveling
Lucius is going to take infernal healing as his new first level spell. He'd be better off overall taking mage armor or something else more utilitarian, but infernal healing makes for sense for him. That also makes him a backup healer as long as he has spell slots. (I also considered interrogation, but Intimidate and a fractured kneecap is as good as that spell.)

He also gets protection from good as a bloodline spell, but that's not going to help us at all. GM, could I possibly switch it for protection from chaos?

I'm not feeling like he's super-effective in combat at the moment, but he's been so useful out of combat that I'm not particularly worried about it. Sorcerers get so few spells known that I'm more worried about covering the bases of what he does as a person. I can grab mage armor at 5th or 7th level, or grab it with the Human alternate racial trait starting around 4th level if there's something we really need. (Lucius has no Con bonus, so generally speaking I'm grabbing a hit point unless something else is important.)

Speaking of favored class hit points, this level Lucius is taking a skill point instead so he can learn to speak Abyssal. I'm also considering diverting a skill point from one of his other skills to get a rank or two in Intimidate, but Thom might have that angle covered.

Re: Buying and selling
A CLW wand for Aero or Saoirse to carry might be a good idea, to have fewer points of failure. Or is Lucius's infernal healing, Thom's cures and Channel Energy, and Soairse's Lay on Hands sufficient?

What do we want to sell? The gemstones will hold their cash value, and under the circumstances I can't imagine too many merchants being willing to trade one kind of wealth you can't eat for another.

We have two scrolls from Hosilla's lockbox that were either not identified or I didn't write down what they were. Aero should probably read magic on them when he gets a chance.

We have two spare crossbows taken off the tieflings at the library that the defenders would probably be happy to have. Unless Thom needs one first? (Speaking of which, now would be a good time for Thom to take possession of the spiritual weapon wand, since he's the only one who can actually use it.)

Most permanent magic items are still outside of our/their price range, and buying cold iron weapons might be more useful than magic ones if we keep seeing dretches and quasits. (Cold iron is certainly cheaper than oils or scrolls of align weapon.)

We're probably more in the market for consumables and alchemy. We (or at least Lucius) have some alchemist's fire and a tanglefoot bag. We probably want some Holy Water, even if Lucius won't carry it.

And more food.

Any other suggestions?

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

I am fine changing to protection from chaos. That would be more appropriate and make sense with the character.

There hasn't been much combat of a nature where Lucius would be uber useful yet. Trust me, his time to shine will come. Especially with his Intelligence. But you are absolutely right...there has been and will be lots of Out of Combat stuff for him and Aero to shine.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Lucius has been leveled up: Taking Greater Spell Penetration as his feat and leaving the Intimidating to Thom.

These are changable if other people have better ideas. Would Greater Spell Focus (Enchantment) be better?

Edit: His inventory is probably out of date. I'll fix that when we're done shopping.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Also of note, Lucius picked up some fire and poison resistance.

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

I think GSP makes sense considering we're probably going to face a lot of critters with SR.

As for consumables, Nebbin has some impact foam, but that's it.

He's also got a MW warhammer he can sell/trade, or he can continue to hold on to it as a backup weapon.

He has Terendelev's scale to let him do align weapon three times a day, but he doesn't really know yet to use it. Someone's going to need to teach him that. :)

Also, ultimately, I plan to make his earth breaker a cold iron demon bane weapon, so he should be pretty formidable in that regard. I think he'll probably spend more of his money on protection/movement/utility. Something to let him avoid fatigue -- so he can do this whole rage cycling thing -- would probably be good.

--

OK, I ended up doing my leveling already; takes a little less work with a purely martial character. :) I added 3 ranks to Stealth, plus one to Perception and Survival. Favored class option went to HP.

I switched his rage power to powerful blow, since that feels more like him.

All I've got left to decide then is his feat. I'm debating improved initiative, combat reflexes or improved sunder. The latter's one I've never taken, since it seems like it's kind of counter-intuitive to destroy our loot, plus of course many of our opponents won't have weapons/armor to use it on. That said, Nebbin's almost always going to use his earth breaker and I'm assuming Saoirse will stick with Radiance, which means there's somewhat less need for scavenged weapons than usual. Thoughts?

--

ETA: Hope everything's OK, Pirate Rob.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

Oof, Pirate Rob, agreed. Hope all goes well/everyone gets better.

Thom level 3:
Took 3rd level in Oracle (favored bonus goes to HP again)
HP +9 (27 total)
BAB +1 (+2 total; improves CMB and CMD)
Saves: +1 to Fort and Reflex (new total of +3 and +1 respectively)
Mystery: Channel improves to 2d6; picked up Life Link.
Spells: +1 caster level (Concentration +5; caster level 3)
Swapped out Bless for Divine Favor (as per my earlier request), then picked up Moment of Greatness (with Aero’s banner, everyone should benefit. Though Nebbin should get miles of usage out of this)
Feat: Power Attack (it was a close one between that and Selective Channel, but I’d prefer to channel out of combat, if at all possible)
Skills: 1 rank Intimidate (+11 mod), 1 rank Knowledge: Planes (+4 mod), 1 rank Knowledge: Religion (+5 mod), 1 rank Linguistics (+1 mod; learned Abyssal)

Wand of CLW: I’d love for us to have one, and I vote we buy one as a team. I can heal when necessary, but I’d love to be able to try to use my spell slots to help solve other problems proactively whenever possible.

Selling our fat lootz: I’ll put the Wand of Spiritual Weapon on Thom’s sheet. I’m assuming when cast from the wand, it will reflect Thom’s alignment (and not that of the wand’s creator)? Also, what caster level is that wand? Let me know, DM.

Thom will also nab one of those crossbows and 10 bolts. I don’t think he’ll use it much, but it’s good to have.

Unless Nebbin specifically wants to hold onto that MW warhammer, I say we sell it. We can pick you up a cold iron morningstar as a decent back-up one-handed weapon, and have some cash to use for consumables.

Stuff I’m buying (from money I had from creation):
2 bandoliers (10s)
2 alchemist’s fires (40g)
2 acid flasks (20g)
2 holy waters (50g)
1 potion of Enlarge Person (50g)
1 potion of Magic Weapon (50g)
Mwk backpack (50g)
Healer’s Kit (50g)

— remaining gold: 46g 5s

I’m happy for that remaining gold to go into a group pot… either towards the Wand of CLW or if someone needs some extra cash for consumables or whatever.

___________

Nebbin the destroyer: Ha! I guess I’m fine with it. I hate to have our potential loot crushed and destroyed, but I can get over that. Though it’s worth noting that Thom is also a martial guy, and I’ll be looking for longsword upgrades (so just don’t destroy really awesome looking longswords we come across). ;P

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

DM:
Also, how much gold would it cost Thom to pick up a silver hound's-face mask to cover his grotesqueness? (i have the avatar picked out, already.) I figure he can show up to the meeting that evening wearing it. :)

Also, I'll be picking up new sets of white Crusaders' robes. Do I need to buy those? Or would they be given to him once they can be convinced of who he is? Should I assume all this happens "behind the scenes" before the meal in the evening? Or would you prefer I RP that conversation with Ira?

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

Also, should Thom have a dragon scale?

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

Loot unaccounted for:
Potion of Invisibility — give to Aero as our only scout?
tanglefoot bag — who wants this?
antitoxin — who wants this? As the guy with Heal, Thom might be a good person for it
semiprecious gemstones — did these get appraised? let’s sell
2 scrolls from Hosilla’s lockbox — Thom can help ID these, if necessary.
+1 light wooden shield — who has this? If no one wants it, let’s sell it
Ring of Climbing — who has this? I say we hold onto it with our best climber until we no longer need it
scroll of identify — let’s give to Lucius or Aero, if they don’t already have it
2 potions of darkvision — Who has these? Give to Aero/Saoirse?
Kellid shale table — Has this been appraised? sell it? or is it likely a quest item?
2 (unclaimed) potions of CLW — Nebbin and Saoirse?
banded mail — was this brought along? I think so, in which case let’s sell it back

________

People should claim what is useful. Otherwise, let’s sell this stuff and pick up a wand of CLW and whatever else we need as a group, then split the remaining money between us.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Wand of spiritual weapon - Wands and the like are assumed to be created at the lowest CL, so it would be CL 3 (1d8+2 damage) in this case. It would definitely be based on your alignment as you are "casting" the spell when using the wand.

Thom:
10 gp is a good cost. Silver jewelry without gems costs 10 gp in Ultimate Equipment.

Yep, we can assume that Thom would have gotten Ravana's scale. That one allowed: three times per day as a standard action, the scale can be used to cast resist elements—but only against electricity or cold.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

The two scrolls are scroll of bear's endurance and a scroll of remove disease.

The semiprecious stones are: three chips of lapis lazuli worth 10 gp each, two bloodstones worth 50 gp each, a citrine worth 50 gp, and a white pearl worth 100 gp.

To be honest...I don't remember the shale table. Most likely it is a small writing desk type of thing...it may have been Ravana's.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

@Thom feel free to do a little RP in whatever fashion you think Thom would pursue. I'll give everyone a couple of short scenes here before I move it along to the dinner.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

Excellent. Will do, but first ...

A few DM questions:
Would Thom's training as a Crusader initiate have been in the Heart? Who would have been in charge of his training? Checking back in would be the first thing he'd look into... though he's not looking forward to figuring out how to explain that he—this ruined half-orc—is the young, dashing human initiate from a few days before. I guess that's the fun, no? :)

Aha! Thanks Ross. It's a page of a "journal" from what would be a First Crusader. It is priceless in the sense that is an historical artifact giving proof to theories that the First Crusaders became the Mongrelfolk due to Abyssal energies.

It could easily fetch 25,000 gp or more but you wouldn't be able to find anyone here who could pay that. There would be many who would be interested in it though.

Thom:
You would have been to the Heart but your actual training would been at outposts and along the wall. You'd recognize Irabeth's name and possibly have seen her. More likely you'd be looking for some sergeant or some such.

I disagree with selling the gems unless we're actually spending the resulting cash: gems are a cash-equivalent.
