Yep congrats you two!!! I won't be gentle on comments on items OR monsters :)
DM Pendin Fust
While I know we have 2 who are suddenly very busy...we DO have someone waiting in the wings to come into play.
Do we want to wake Hosilla? If we do let's list the questions.
If not I may summarize your trip through this mongrel encampment...you are right at the surface's door.

Thanks for the patience during monster writing time. As another note I'll be out of town Friday-Sunday at a convention.
No BB code on this paste, but here it is for anybody who's curious and hadn't seen it yet:
Wardstone Bracers
Aura moderate or strong abjuration; CL 10th (lesser), 15th (greater)
Slot wrist; Price 13,000 gp (lesser), 39,000gp (greater) Weight 1 lb.
Description
These cold iron bracers are engraved with symbols repersenting the Mendevian fortresses.
Whenever a creature attempts to use a teleportation effect or summon a creature within 30 feet of you, you may attempt to block the effect. Make an opposed caster level check (1d20 + caster level) using the bracers' caster level as an immediate action. If the check succeeds, the spell or effect fails and is wasted; otherwise, it is unaffected.
Lesser wardstone bracers may be used once per day. Greater wardstone bracers may be used twice per day.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, dimensional anchor, creator must posses the steward of the great beyond arcane discovery; Cost 6,500 gp (lesser), 19,500gp (greater)

I WONDERED who did the Mendevian themed bracers. Makes total sense now :)

Once everyone gets a chance to RP a bit more and then we decide if we're taking the route to the surface then I'll have an update to include our new player!

Hey guys, just wanted to remind you that the Superstar monsters will be revealed in a few hours. I'll certainly appreciate any votes you might care to throw my way. Thanks!
As for the loot, nothing leaps out as must-haves for Nebbin (who won't actually put in a request for anything, but will take whatever's given to him). He could use the ring of climbing, of course, but is already decent at that with his strength so it might be better served for someone else. One of the potions could certainly be of some use too at some point.
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32
Green is items the party still has.
Yellow is partially consumed items
Red is used/lost items
Orange are items we don't have but could reasonably expect to get back
Magenta are items that I don't know who is carrying/using
Please leave comments here or directly on the spreadsheet for things you think should be changed.
Also, tomorrow I'll be adding some space for initial inventories - I don't plan to copy everyone's starting inventory there, but I want a place to write down that, for instance, Lucius used up some of the rations he started with. Or that there is a spare backpack and a dagger up for grabs because Lucius has replaced them with masterwork versions.
DM Pendin Fust
Sorry all...work's just crazy right now and I won't have an update until this weekend or Monday.
Nebbin Elsbet
OK, taking a quick break from Superstar work.
First of all, nice job, Ross. Thanks!
Looks like we need to divvy up the following:
potion of invisibility -- could go to anyone but not sure if there's anyone it benefits extra. Maybe just pick someone random to carry it and we'll have it for party availability if needed?
wand of spiritual weapon (8 charges) -- I don't think we've got a cleric. For the moment, give it to Aero (I assume he's got UMD?) but could go to our oracle when we get to know him.
tanglefoot bag -- Probably best with Aero or Lucius, since they're less likely to be in melee combat.
2 flasks of alchemist's fire -- Ditto.
antitoxin -- Could go to anyone. Alphabetically? Lucius can hold on to it.
1d4 ⇒ 2
masterwork glaive -- Leave it with the mongrelfolk? Otherwise, maybe sell it on the surface when we get a chance.
"+1 light wooden shield" -- Can anyone use this?
ring of climbing -- Saoirse or Lucius are our worst climbers. Probably one of them should wear it, at least for now.
scroll of identify -- Lucius/Aero
scroll of magic fang -- Looks like this is unusable, so something we can sell up top (or gift to the mongrelfolk)
two potions of darkvision -- Can go to anyone. Alphabetically? Looks like Aero and Saoirse can hold on to them.
1d4 ⇒ 1
1d4 ⇒ 4
2 scrolls (from Hosilla's lockbox) -- need to know what these are

Aero has read magic, so identifying scrolls is pretty trivial, we just haven't bothered.
Soairse uses a shield, so it could go to her: a +1 light shield is just as good as a Heavy shield, but you can hold things, too.
Soarise was the best candidate for the +1 morningstar, as a melee fighter using one-handed weapons, but at this point I think Lucius is best to carry it: Soairse has Radiance, Nebbin uses a two-handed weapon, and I don't get the feeling a morningstar is Aero's style.
Aero Skyfall
Loot splitting looks pretty good Aero has UMD and read magic and would actually use the morningstar +1, Pulura's favored weapon is the sling but Aero would happy use the morning start due to the star design etc.
Still on the long drive home, so posting will be a little spotty through Sinday, should be home on Monday though and back to full speed posting.

Ok, I'm drafting up my update now but I wanted to ask everyone real quick how we DO want to go about identifying items and such. I've been wondering if you wanted to keep getting generic descriptions and rolling for checks or if you want me to assume read magic and detect magic and enough rerolls have been made to make the check?
Nebbin Elsbet
I'm torn on that question, since what takes 30 seconds in real life can take two days in PBP. What I've been leaning toward doing in my own games is identifying really basic items (i.e. potion of CLW, +1 sword, etc. -- I suppose anything in the CBR, really) while requiring roles for things that may not be so standard (which also allows for cursed items, if they show up, though there could be some metagaming if you have us check for something and we find out it's just a +1 sword).
DM Pendin Fust
That's kind of what I'm proposing. While characters like Lucius and Aero are going to be big into identifying items and knowledge, I don't want to bog the rest of the group down.
I'll propose this and see what everyone thinks:
Any "normal" potions, wands, or alchemical items I will just reveal with an "Aero/Lucius discovers that" kind of entry. Anything story related or less common (Radiance, unholy symbols, etc.) I will leave generic for you all to pursue (or not) with rolls.
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32
Sometimes rerolls aren't allowed on those checks. Can we instead get the generic descriptions and the reveal under a spoiler (with DC) in the same post? (For that matter, what's the standard discovery mechanism for alchemical items? A Craft(Alchemy) check?)
That way we don't hold up the game to exchange die rolls after every batch of treasure, and we can get the results immediately if we are so inclined, but I don't feel slightly cheaty about assuming I roll well enough and we're still incentivized to keep our Knowledge skills high.
DM Pendin Fust
I like it. I'll go with what Ross said unless anyone objects.
DM Pendin Fust
Yes please take time to RP this as your characters. Essentially we'll be losing Ravana for Thom when this scene plays out.
Also, I wouldn't read too much into it Thom. One of our players is an alternate for RPG Superstar and another is Top 16 (go Jacob!) I know Aero's traveling and Ross is a busy person as well.

Oh, and for anyone else with an iPad: X-Com is still just ten bucks.

Two things:
First, tomorrow my wife and I are going on a trip to Hawaii. I'll have internet access, but I'm unsure how much time I'll have to post. I'll be back next Wednesday.
Second, Lucius is increasingly wishing he had a regiment of Hellknights to dispense some proper order. I'm thinking one of his long-term goals in the campaign might be to get the Order of the Godclaw to return to Mendev.
DM Pendin Fust
Cool have fun in Hawaii! (jealous)
And have fun at the Con! (still jealous)
You'll wish you had an army of angels at your front in a bit.
Thom.
Cool. Have fun, guys.
:: looks down at introduction checklist ::
Thom is an ugly and burned-up half-orc who's hard to look at. check.
Thom says he's not a half-orc. check.
Thom has visions. check.
Yep.. yep.. I think I got it all. Sorry for the long trip, folks. thanks for bearing with me. :)
Aero Skyfall
Thom is not a demon. check.
Thom is not trying to eat us. check.
Thom is clearly some sort of delusional adventurer type. check.
Welcome aboard! :Þ

Heading off to California Friday through Tuesday, so don't know how much, if at all, I'll get to post in that time.
Where in California? I live in southern California.
DM Pendin Fust
Ahh yeah that's a bit away from me...although I'll be out that way 3/4 and 3/5.
