I've got to install that third party Paizo posting app I used to have back on my phone. My home PC's been inaccessible (its in the guest room and our last guest finally left last night!) and I've been so taken with RPGSS that I forgot to come back to this!

Oof. Good luck with surgery, and I can advise you that watching Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes on Netflix is a good way to pass the time while sitting very still with a bag of frozen peas on your shoulder.


I'm going to be out of contact for 2 weeks from the 13th-28th.

I think I'm going to call it quits here though. I've so lost track of the story and connection to my character by now and haven't been feeling it for the revival.

So I was slightly over enthusiastic about recovery time from my surgery. Probably 2 more days for a good post.

Should we try to replace Aero?

Just get yourself better, man. We can be patient.

And whether or not to replace Aero ... I could go either way. We have 4 characters who cover most of the traditional roles except "skills guy" (not that Aero really filled that role, either, though).

I think the party can survive with 4. One option might be to recruit a new player to take over the existing character. That avoids some of the continuity problems with replacing characters in PbPs, where an 'every six months' replacement can be every few rooms.

I actually prefer five players. I think it makes for a better group, plus makes it easier for a GM, so if you have to DMPC someone it's not a full quarter of the group.

That said, I think we should talk about posting rates/momentum. I understand the real-life issue, but I'll be honest and say that if we hadn't been communicating via email about other things, and if I didn't like Nebbin so much, I might also consider dropping. I think it's important to get a consistent posting rate (which means both players and GM). I really think it's important to aim for five posts a week at least, preferably more, or the game loses momentum and we lose track of what we're doing.

Lucius definitely wants those dispel magic scrolls, though it probably makes sense to make sure Thom carries one of them, too.

Someone else should probably take the protective magic, though, since Lucius took the last batch. I'll suggest that Nebbin take the amulet of natural armor and that Thom or Soairse take the cloak.

Lucius, go ahead and take all 3 scrolls for now. We can redistribute them later if we decide to.

Thom could certainly use the cloak; I believe his saves are worse than Saoirse's. I don't wanna leave that +1 adamantine morningstar on the ground, either. That could be incredibly useful. If no one grabs it, Thom will.

EDIT: Does Saoirse have a back-up bludgeoning weapon? Cause that morningstar could be really, really solid in that capacity.

Re: 5th player, I say we roll forward through the rest of this fight w/ Aero as an NPC. He could come with us in a support capacity or stay put to watch the prisoners. I'm fine with either.

RE: gear: I put the +2 cloak of resistance on Thom's sheet (and it's reflected in his stat line now). secondarily, I updated these latest items into the loot doc, with notes on what we've grabbed (by whom) and what we're leaving for the time being.

Saoirse: let me know if you're claiming that +1 adamantine morningstar. Thom is happy to carry it if you don't want it. It's too useful an item to leave lying around.

Though I don't think that loot sheet reflects anything we've taken from the rest of the Gray Garrison (primarily the earlier fight and the Divine Armory room).

It doesn't. I'll see if I can update it this weekend.

Yeah Radiance gets pretty awesome.

I would agree that I should DMPC Aero until the end of this (which you all are pretty much at) and it will be a perfect place to see if anyone else wants to either take him over or make a new character. It would make sense story wise too.

Is it just set dressing (and a waste of time for Thom to make the checks/collect the materials that he did)?

I'm fine moving on if this floor was just a scene setter for whatever's above, but I'd also love to (efficiently) collect any intel we can from this second floor while we're here.

I don't know, and I doubt the GM will tell us, but I expect there were once creatures on this floor, but we met them downstairs when the alarm was raised.

I don't think we should skip it entirely, but I agree with the way folks are handling it in parallel.

That was my thought as well. i just wanted to be as proactive as possible without missing useful pieces of our adventure altogether (that may be hidden on this second floor).

I've caught the loot spreadsheet back up.

We're better equipped with demon-killing magic than I thought, and we have a ton of healing potions (We have, however, used 14 charges of the CLW wand today.) Also good news, the magic missile wands is CL 5, not 3 as I had thought. That's a whole extra missile.

It's unclear who is carrying a lot of things, but we're going to have to talk about that soon anyway, when we figure out what wealth Aero walks off with.

I'm pretty sure wands and potions all have the correct charges. However, I have only updated Lucius's spell slots. I don't know how Thom or Aero are doing for magics. Thom cast several moments of greatness and a protection from evil. I don't know what he has left.

I think Thom has 4 first level spells left. Did he cast more than 1 Prot from E and I Moment of Greatness?

I also have 3 channels, but I dont have Selective Channeling.

Agreed ... here's to hoping. And if this little encounter comes to a fight, it would buy Thom valuable rounds of actions.

Two caveats: I'm pretty sure babaus have spell resistance, which can let them attack through protection from chaos/evil anyway (though you still get the AC increase).

And attacking a chaotic/evil summoned creature means it can attack you back. So far, Lucius took a crack at one, but he's the only party member without a protection spell up. If it looks like those spells are helping the others, he'll cast one for himself.

Hey, where did we land on the whole replacing Pirate Rob thing? Are folks wanting to see if we can recruit someone specifically to continue playing Aero? Or are people open to a new character?

If folks want to have the new player play Aero, what are you wanting to be maintained? The whole character (including the build, background,and personality)? Or just the fact that a roughly bard-ish guy named Aero is already in the story?

I ask because I had a buddy express some interest, but he's concerned about what people's expectations are for maintaining Aero (if that's what we want to do). He's not against keeping the name, but wanted to know if we would be fine with the character being rebuilt/re-envisioned to suit his play style.

I mean, he'd really just like to bring in a fresh character, but he wants to be respectful of what the existing group is interested in seeing.

Love to hear everyone's thoughts.

I tend to agree. While it may create some plot hurdles, I think it gives the new player the chance to play what they want ... which will just make it a better game for everyone, in my experience.
