Nebbin Elsbet |

"Oh no," Nebbin says, "we have to stop them!"
He charges toward the farthest-most creature and brings his hammer down on ... the chain! I'm hoping if they pulled away from us, they'll continue to do that while not chained. If it tries to attack me as I approach, I'll hit it instead.
+1 cold iron earth breaker, power attack, furious focus: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Damage: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (3, 6) + 13 = 22

Turook |

As Nebbin rushes in, Turook does his best to distract the animals, lulling them with calm tones.
Wild Empathy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Lucius Erasmian |

With Nebbin focusing his attention (and hammer) on the further creature, Lucius will focus his will, and the most destructive impulses of Hell, onto the nearest.
Spend a mythic point (1 left) to cast shatter on the nearest chain. If it counts as attended, it gets a Will save, DC 16 using hte auroch's bonus.

DM Pendin Fust |

Got the job!! Hooray employed again!
Nebbin's mighty hammer crashes down, the wild-eyed auroch pulling mightily, and the chain snaps in two. The beast continues its path down the dried riverbed, vocalizing its freedom.
Lucius' magic succeeds as well, as the sound of bending and breaking metal accompanies the severing of the chains on his auroch and it taking off down the riverbed in the opposite direction.
A shout from above brings the faces of 20 tieflings. A call in Abyssal orders the bringing of bows and arrows to the edge of the cliff wall.
You've got another round of time to do what you want, then they start shooting.

Lucius Erasmian |

Lucius gets to look pleased as the fury of hell reduces the chain to a pile of twisted, slightly brimstone-scented, wreckage.
He gets to look less pleased as demonspawn begin massing along the cliff. Time for protective measures.
He'll activate the shield from his Tendralev's scale, and move behind cover, if there is any available.

Thom. |

Hmmm ... my updates quit coming in. Sorry.
Thom looks up and sneers at the gathering archers. "How are we going to get up there?" he rasps as he calls on his power to protect his allies.
Cast Communal Protection from Evil. Everyone is affected.

DM Pendin Fust |

Arrows begin to rain down...
Arrows x6 Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Heh, didn't even need protection from evil
[ooc]The ropes are still in place on the one side, and the tieflings wouldn't be able to get at you with bows straight down the cliff. You'd have cover. But, they now know you're there...

"What do we do?" Nebbin asks in a panic. "Do we try to climb up there?"
Maybe use blur or protection from arrows to let one or two of us get up there quickly and distract them from shooting at everyone else. Nebbin can climb well and move quickly, though him against six could be dangerous...

Thom. |

"I got a thought," croaks Thom thoughtfully, then he quickly lays out an idea.
How high is the cliff? I'm wondering if this is a valid option (which would mostly depend on the vertical distance we'd need to cover). Thom could burn a Mythic point to cast Summon Monster III, and summon a Celestial dire bat. As a large creature with a strength of 17, it could ferry one or two of us up there at a time. Climb speed on a wing'd animal is limiting, but I'm hoping a double move is all it takes to make it from where we are to up top in a single round.
IF the distance plays out well, we could summon it, load up Saoirse and/or Nebbin, it double moves up and they hop off. Rinse and repeat until we're all up there or the summon spell ends.
DM, does the distance work out like that?
Team, any better ideas or improvements to this plan?

Lucius Erasmian |

Nebbin has a ring of climbing. Get Turook or Thom up first.
Lucius flings his last fireball into the massed tieflings, hoping to thin their ranks somewhat.
fireball: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 1, 6, 4) = 17

Thom. |

Thom retreats as far as he can under the protection of the cliff. He reaches out to the power always waiting in him, unconsciously beseeching it for a winged companion.
1 round cast, 1 mythic point spent to summon a celestial dire bat.
"Saoirse. Be ready. You and I will go first."

Nebbin Elsbet |

Nebbin slings his hammer over his shoulder, and begins climbing.
If I don't need to worry about being shot as I climb -- and I couldn't quite tell from your earlier post -- I'll take 10 and climb up to the top, though wait until the bat reaches here before I go out from under cover; otherwise I'll go up as soon as the bat begins to ascend, moving at accelerated pace.
IIRC, it's a knotted rope, so DC 5; I don't think I can fail badly enough to fall...
Climb: 1d20 + 16 - 5 ⇒ (3) + 16 - 5 = 14
Climb: 1d20 + 16 - 5 ⇒ (12) + 16 - 5 = 23
Climb: 1d20 + 16 - 5 ⇒ (3) + 16 - 5 = 14
Climb: 1d20 + 16 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 16 - 5 = 19
Climb: 1d20 + 16 - 5 ⇒ (4) + 16 - 5 = 15

Saoirse Palelight |

Saoirse nods as she stands ready with Thom, her shield held up to give extra cover to Thom while he prepares his spell.

DM Pendin Fust |

Yes, you don't have to worry about being shot while climbing. No crossbows in the group and the way the cliff is laid out you'd have total concealment. Thom, yeah that would work. The cliff is about 40 feet.
So 1 round to summon. How long does your summon last with the mythic point (does that affect it even?) Nebbin, with your ring and strength you don't even need the rope, but yes its knotted.
Tiefling Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
The fireball splats into the archers on the cliffside causing havoc and killing a large chunk of the evil beings.
2 round reprieve from arrows while they recover from the fireball.

Thom. |

Using mythic in that way boosts caster level by 2, so the duration would be 8 rounds.
As the massive bat appears, Thom is momentarily surprised ... as if he didn't actually think it would work. He quickly recovers, and points up onto the cliff above as he addresses the creature in a strange, heavenly tongue.
As he speaks, he waits for its agreement, then (assuming it allows) helps Saoirse onto its back. If there's room, he climbs aboard, too.
Rounds 2 & 3: Saoirse is the first one up. If both Thom and Saoirse fit on its back without slowing it down, they'll both go. Then, it will return and ferry the rest of the group up. Let me know how much time that will take. Hopefully we can get the group up there before they recover from Lucius's Fireball.

As soon as Nebbin reaches the deck of the bridge, he clambers over and, pulling his hammer, swings at the nearest tiefling archer.

DM Pendin Fust |

Nebbin's hammer fells the tiefling before it can even react to his presence.
It should be able to take you 2 up at once, leaving Lucius and Turook. So 6 rounds total to get the 4 of you up.
The tieflings at the lip of the canyon mill about and start to organize. Lucius flings another of his spells at them...
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
And they immediately begin to howl and paw at the infernal glittering dust surrounding them.
??? Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
A voice calls down, in Abyssal.
[spoiler=Abyssal]"Practitioner of the dark magics. They will not avail you here. I am master of the infernal forces. Give up now."
The voice intones in a grating voice and a ball of fire lops down on top of where Lucius is standing.
DC 17 Reflex save.
Damage: 8d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 4, 4, 5, 5, 3) = 32

Lucius Erasmian |

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 Whoo!
Lucius covers his face (and other vulnerable bits) with his enchanted cloak before the worst of the fire explodes across him.
Half damage is 16, minus 5 for Lucius's Infernal fire resistance means 11 damage. Enough to be worrisome, but not enough to present an immediate threat of death. Thom, is Lucius Life Linked?
He shouts back in Taldane (Abyssal is such a distasteful language): "You do not know with whom you meddle, Abomination. Surrender now and you will be granted a clean death."
Where exactly is everyone located? Can Lucius throw a fireball or stinking cloud without catching Nebbin? Can Nebbin see (or charge) the spellcaster?

Thom. |

Assuming we're still in range, yes, Lucius is Life Linked with Thom for a little additional healing.
And I agree with Lucius, can we get an update on where everyone is? I'm not sure where our characters and the bat all are at this point.

Saoirse Palelight |

So, I'm making the assumption that we can see the speaker who saved against the glitterdust, if not, Saoirse will attack whichever tiefling is closest. Also, I'm activating my Divine Bond while we climb up the cliff, which will give Radiance the Keen property for 6 minutes.
Saoirse whispers a prayer as the large bat climbs up the cliff, gripping Radiance tightly, "As warriors fall, one after another, we never stop. Lands change but hearts remain. Woe to the dark for Light shines still," and Radiance blazes like a torch, glowing furiously as for the briefest moment, Saoirse feels a presence awaken inside the gleaming blade. Jumping off of the large bat as soon as it has cleared the cliff face, Radiance raised in two hands, Saoirse takes stock of the Tieflings standing before her and rushes the one speaking, leaping forward with mythic strength surging through her legs.
Spending a mythic point to Fleet Charge up to the tiefling, and assuming I don't need any more movement after that, full attacking.
Fleet Charge
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22

Attack2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Thom. |

5 damage to Thom, Lucius heals 5. If anyone else has 5 or more damage, the same thing happens to them. Let me know so I can deduct the HP from Thom.
While Saoirse charges forward, Thom holds his ground, mentally shrugging off Lucius’s damage through the life link as he maintains a clearing for Lucius and Turook to land. As he holds, he stabs out at the nearest tiefling soldier.
Power attack the nearest Tiefling soldier, hold ground.
+1 cold iron longspear: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 2 = 27 <— CRIT?

Nebbin Elsbet |

I don't want to hold things up, so I'm assuming I DON'T know where the voice is coming from...

DM Pendin Fust |

Yeah, you'd notice the tiefling (who has some wicked looking horns and hellish looking skin) who was not affected by the glitterdust. I looked back at my posts and realize I did NOT make that apparent so my apologies. I'll give ya'll a free round as recompense.
Saoirse raises Radiance in a cruelly holy light, and brings it down swiftly on the tiefling at the edge of the chasm. Thom also brings his spear to bear on the same. The tiefling's smile fades instantly to a rictus of horror as Nebbin's hammer comes crashing down to finish him.
I really, seriously, keep forgetting how much damage you all can do!!
The rest of the tieflings stare slackjawed...

Saoirse Palelight |

Raising her sword from the fresh corpse, Radiance blazes white hot through the oppressive air of the Worldwound as Saoirse threatens the remaining tieflings. "Surrender yourselves to Iomedae's justice, or face mine!"
If you want an Intimidation roll from me.
Mythic Intimidation: 1d20 + 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (13) + (3) + 3 = 19

DM Pendin Fust |

Saoirse's words, and the blinding light from Radiance, cause the tieflings to cower. One by one, slowly at first, they drop their weapons until they all are unarmed. One steps forward and grunts in the common language "We were forced...by the sorcerer you killed."
On the sorcerer's body you find: potion of cure moderate wounds, wand of dimension door (9 charges), amulet of natural armor +1, cloak of resistance +2, 125 gp

Nebbin Elsbet |

"Oh, OK. Well, I guess you can join us now, if you want," Nebbin offers as he hears the completely reasonable explanation from the demon-spawn.
"So I guess now we should go back to the army and invade, right?" he asks Saoirse, glance straying to Lucius as well as he tries to figure out what they're supposed to be doing next.
