Discussion thread!

Please feel free to discuss anything.

Welcome all and thanks for picking me, Pendin. REALLY excited to get started.

However, on an off note, I'll actually be traveling on Sunday and Monday (possibly Tuesday) and am not sure what my Internet access will be. Really depends where I'm going and thanks to a family emergency, that's up in the air at the moment.

I think Nebbin's otherwise pretty much done -- I need to finish up his equipment and pick his traits. I'm still thinking exposed to awfulness works pretty well for him, though I could also easily go stolen fury.

As noted, I'm also happy to link Nebbin to another character, though I may have to do some reviewing. I figure he's the child of a Kellid/Sarkorisian descendent and a crusader, so could work either way.

I tried out the background tables in Ultimate Campaign, and his mother is still living, as is a younger sister, though those details can also easily change.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Good to know if he's Exposed to Awfulness...there may be a sister or mother cropping up....

If anyone decides they'd like to have a shared backstory with Nebbin...please by all means roleplay it out (somewhat abridged) in the gameplay thread. I'll be posting up the intro this weekend.

Also, when everyone gets a chance, please put basic info in your profile in the box that makes it show up under your name when you post. HP, CMB and CMD (you can break it out if you want),Init, Perception, all 3 AC's, and all 3 saves. Anything else you put there just makes it that much easier for me :)

Yarrr. I think I'm going to look for a slightly less piratey Garundi for my icon.

I'll get my character sheet sorted out today or over the weekend.

I'm using the Touched by Divinity trait for Asmodeus, so if anyone else wanted to use the same trait, please let me know and we can work out how it is supposed to work.

Liberty's Edge

Reporting in. I'll have my character sheet sorted out and ready to go by tomorrow. Thank you again for accepting me DM.

To Nebbin: I was also thinking of picked Exposed to Awfulness but it seems our back-stories are quite different. Maybe we can try to work something out? Don't know, just throwing ideas out there. :)

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

Kiradia, I was just going to look at your application now, since I don't think Nebbin would really work with any of the rest (in terms of shared back story, at least).

Looks like we've got the following for campaign traits, though the GM said we didn't have to use them:

Chance encounter (trickster): xxx
Child of the crusade (marshal): xxx
Exposed to awfulness (guardian): Saoirse, Nebbin
Riftwarden orphan (archmage): xxx
Stolen fury (champion): Ravana
Touched by divinity (heirophant): Lucius, Aero Skyfall

So looks like we've got duplicates in a couple spots and three vacancies. Let me look at child of the crusade (or more accurately, look at marshal) -- I can see the trait itself working for Nebbin, though I don't know that I really ever saw him as the leader of men that marshal implies...

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Just to let you know...you don't HAVE to have a shared backstory to have the same trait as far as I'm concerned. I can find a way to make it work :)

Human Druid 1 (Elk Shaman), HP: 11/11, AC: 14/10/14, SV: 4/0/4, INIT: +0, CMB: +4, CMD: 14, ATT: Gore +4 1d6+6 -OR- Gore +2 1d6+2 & 2xSlam +2 1d4+2 -OR- Scythe +4 2d4+6, PERC: +6

Hello everyone.

Regarding Traits - The following traits work with my backstory:

Chance Encounter: Ravana escaped the Worldwound as a young girl. She was helped by a group of crusaders which have been left vague. The Trickster Mythic Path is agreeable with me.

Exposed to Awfulness: Ravana was tortured by a demon as a child. As a melee druid, the Guardian Path is fitting for me.

Riftwarden Orphan: Ravana's parents were killed in the fall of Storasta 75 years ago. Her parents have never been defined as she was two at the time. I do not know to what degree the Archmage Path is desirable for a druid, but I'm not that worried about it.

Stolen Fury: Ravana was exposed to the essence of demons on more than one occasion and was used as a lab rat extensively. I have currently picked this trait as the Champion Path seems the most fitting for one seeking vengeance.

Touched by Divinity: I felt it best to leave this Path to a dedicated divine caster rather than claim it for myself. I am sure that Heirophant would be a good match for me, but the guide recommends everyone having a different trait and so I passed on this one.

Regarding merging with other's character histories: I am certainly open to this.

Spoiler:
Ravana was born 77 years ago, immediately before the second crusade. After the fall of Storasta, she was kept as the plaything by a demon for four years before being discarded. Her body was then resurrected by another demon and taken to the abyss for the next 60ish years where she was subjected to magical experiments. At the age of 12 she escaped (time flows differently in the abyss) and lived alone in the Worldwound for 2 years (think Newt from Aliens).

Found by crusaders, she was taken to Kenabres and given to kellid as she is kellid herself. Initially suffering severe PTSD, it would be years before she remembered her life and tried to investigate her parents. Her history was quickly revealed and she was to be executed. She was freed by a Herne druid from Mendev and two years later went to them for training. The Herne are a neutral evil sect with whom she does not see eye to eye and so she has left them and is in Kenabres looking for a fight with either the local kellid or the demons beyond the West Sellen River.

If there is anything in there you would like to work with, I'm completely open.

Regarding party role: Ravana is approximately twenty years old. She is very feral, but in a cautious, sneaky way. She is extremely distrusting, has virtually no social skills and has only recently learned how to read and write. Her face becomes a mask during times of stress with flat, dead eyes. She visibly suffers nightmares every night, but remains silent and near motionless during them. She will eat virtually anything and carries next to no equipment. A human with red hair, she is accompanied by an Ibex - a type of large goat with huge sweeping horns.

All of this information, including pictures, is included in my character history here.

Ravana has a unique form of combat which I will roleplay when the opportunity presents itself.

I don't think the traits have to line up with the mythic path you eventually want to take, I think they just provide guidance.

I went with Touched by Divinity. Having Pulara reach out to Aero in his dreams and inspire him to lift himself out of poverty on the streets on Magnimar and come search for what remains of the Kellish nation of Sarkoris lost to the Worldwound.

On a related note Aero has the Flagbearer feat.

Flagbearer:
As long as you hold your clan, house, or party’s flag (see page 293), members of that allegiance within 30 feet who can see the flag (including yourself ) gain a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws against fear and charm effects. You must hold the flag in one hand in order to grant this bonus. If the standard is taken by the enemy or destroyed, this bonus becomes a penalty, affecting all creatures that the bonus previously affected for 1 hour (or until you reclaim the lost flag).
At the moment he has a flag with the symbol of Pulara on it but once we get a little bit of working together I'm sure Aero will be happy to carry a symbol the whole party can get behind.

Was just flipping through Mythic Adventures on my dinner break. I wonder if, regardless of traits, do we want to try to diversify our paths, just so we as players can experience more?

I'm just throwing ideas out there; not trying to tell you all what to do with your characters, obviously.

Looking at archmage, it might work well for Aero, as it can also be for "knowledge masters" as well as spell slingers. I think that might pair well with the archeologist.

Could Saoirse work as the marshal/leader of armies (again regardless of the actual trait)?

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

As far as I'm concerned you are NOT tied to the Mythic Path that the trait suggests if you decide to take one of the campaign traits.

To give you some background on me: I'm a 47 year old male medical student attending school on the island of Grenada in the Caribbean. I've been married for thirteen years and have two dogs. I usually check the forums twice a day and post at least once but post only very short posts the week before, and week of, exams. I also only skim other player's posts during that time. I have three exams during the term but this has not been a problem in the other game I play. It basically means no heavy roleplaying for me during that period.

I do not have the Mythic book and will not be able to get it until they sell it as a .pdf alone. Shipping to the island is so expensive and complicated that no retail businesses are willing to do it. If I have something sent to my family and then sent to me, the cost is usually $40 and takes three months.

So, when do you expect that we will need the Mythic book?

PS: Yes, I'm a middle aged guy playing a female character. I am pretty confident that I am not a closet perv as I made A's in both Behavioral Medicine and Neuroscience. While that wouldn't keep me from being crazy, it would hopefully let me know. My wife says that I lost my sense of humor upon receiving scores for my first exam, although I don't really agree. Medical students do make jokes, it's just that they are either obscurely medicine related, morbidly inappropriate and/or simply not funny.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

They are selling it as a pdf alone already. I get almost everything that way because, well, then I can get so much more (I miss books, but the price differential lets me get a ton more stuff). It should also eventually be up on the prd too, if you want -- not sure whether we'll need it before that happens or not. My guess is it'll be a close call in terms of timing.

But we shouldn't need it until the end of the 1st AP book.

Last post of the evening. I just received the book and I just made the final adjustments to Ravana's Character Sheet as well as fixed two annoying typos. It can still be found here.

Lucius, my other thought would be spell penetration, which would seem like something you'll use throughout the course of the campaign.

Not sure if anyone of you have played barbarians before, but am I better off going with furious focus (removing the power attack penalty from the first blow, which means for the first five levels I get power attack for no penalty at all) or extra rage? I'm going back and forth on which I want.

Will try to get Nebbin finished up -- just the equipment and traits, IIRC -- on Saturday, then I will indeed by traveling Sunday and Monday, so I'm not sure how much availability I'll have to post. (I'll have my iPad, but I've found that doing any rolls -- which involve lots of key strokes to get brackets -- is a pain in the tuchus.)

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

OK, I think Nebbin's done now. His gear is mostly stuff I thought he might have from his job, smashing stones in the quarry; he's not an "adventurer" when the adventure begins, after all, just a big man with a REALLY big hammer.

Looking over your build I noted that you are counting Spell Focus as a +2 increase to the DC. I believe it is only a +1. Way back in AD&D 3.0 it was +2.

Female Human Paladin/Marshal: 5/1 HP: 30/62 AC: 23(26 Smite, 20 No Shield) T: 12(15) FF: 21(24) CMD: 21(F:19) F: +11 R: +8 W: +13 Perception: +6, Immune Disease, Fear (+4 morale 10 ft.)

So I've been thinking about this all day and I believe it would be helpful if we all knew what Mythic Path we were considering for our characters. I understand if some don't want to reveal that aspect of their character but here's what I've been mulling in my head:

I don't know if I really see Saorise growing into a Marshal type character, leading armies of the faith against demon kind and such, but it definitely has possibilities. I had initially considered Guardian or Champion to be better choices. Especially considering our group composition.

Nebbin Elsbet: Barbarian
Aero Skyfall: Bard
Saoirse Palelight: Paladin
Lucius the Devilson: Sorcerer
Ravana: Druid

Nebbin and Ravana are both building for Striker type builds it seems with Lucius and Aero pulling back line and skirmishing roles respectively. I've built Saoirse kind of generically and haven't decided on a dedicated fighting style for her yet. I suppose it could be fun seeing Saoirse grow into a leader in the war...

You know what Nebbin, you've convinced me! I'll start reading up on the Marshal and see what I can do with it. :)

Human HP 21/21 | AC:16 T:11 FF:15 CMD: 13 | F+1 R+4 W+4 | Percpetion +7 | 30ft: +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws against fear and charm effects

I didn't particularly follow the playtest (although I did read it once) and haven't read the mythic book so am as of yet unfamiliar with the mythic stuff.

It is my understanding that all the mechanical bits will be added to the PRD so I should be in good shape even without the book. As a primarily PFS player I would like to wait and see what if anything from it becomes legal for PFS before purchasing, but if we get to the point we need it before it gets added to the PRD I will gladly buy it rather than risk slowing things down.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Pirate Rob I don't think you need to worry about the material being on the PRD in time. We won't hit mythic tiers until the end of the first AP book.

I am liking the Guardian Mythic Path. It looks to have the right amount of taking care of my animal companion, greatly boosted defense and offense.

Heirophant is more caster oriented than I'm really looking for and much of what I would want from Champion is in Guardian.

We don't have to pick paths now however, so I am just not worried about it.

If you want guardian I can probably go champion. Both look pretty similar but as you say no need to choose. Will post something playing off your game post when I get home tomorrow.

Spell penetration is definitely a great feat, especially in a campaign that will likely be packed to the brim with demons.

I was hoping for a suggestion of something that would have a bit more immediate impact at level 1, though. But since I can't think of anything either I'll grab Spell Penetration. Point-blank shot is a huge boost to ray of frost in the present, but it'd be dead weight by level 5 or so.

Yeah. I'm building Lucius as an Enchanter first, since that gets such a huge boost from his bloodline power. After that comes summoning Devils and fire/ice spells. There should be room in his spell list for some of the mandatory utility spells like teleport or knock, but Lucius isn't going to be a good source for buff spells.

So with the intro out there now...I'd need a consensus on what gear each person likely had with them at the time of the celebration. Armor is most certainly with you, but some items you might have had at a "home base" type area.

If you truly feel your character has everything listed on them at the moment...no worries!

I think Aero had at least most of his stuff on him, something about an overstuffed backpack.

I will say he left the spellbook and charcoal behind, having failed to note the variety of peach earlier.

As a note I'm going to be driving across the country Tuesday-Thursday. I should have internet access in the morning and evening, but will not be on all day as is common.

I know I said in my post that Saoirse was carrying her backpack, but it probably makes more sense for her to not be carrying it since she still has the Initiate room for the day. So all she's really carrying is her armor/shield, weapons, and her Sunrods, which she keeps in her belt pouch.

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

Unless we want to say Nebbin was coming from work -- perhaps trying to get a little more done before the festival -- he honestly probably wouldn't have any of his gear. I'd rather not start *quite* that naked, so perhaps we can say he was out in the morning, finishing up something he hadn't quite gotten done the day before? That'd be VERY Nebbin. Then he'd probably have all his gear (which is generally intended to be stuff he'd have for his job, as opposed to adventuring equipment).

Saoirse, how does your character pronounce her name?

Female Human Paladin/Marshal: 5/1 HP: 30/62 AC: 23(26 Smite, 20 No Shield) T: 12(15) FF: 21(24) CMD: 21(F:19) F: +11 R: +8 W: +13 Perception: +6, Immune Disease, Fear (+4 morale 10 ft.)

Saoirse is Irish meaning freedom. The rough phonetic for it is seer-shə or seer-sha. :) Hope that helps.

I'm ok with that motteditor. I had actually assumed you DID come from the quarry so I had assumed your big hammer and lamellar :)

Ravana doesn't really have anything but her leather lamelar, which she wears all the time.

My main concern is that she doesn't have her animal companion. This is fine if we are doing an adventure or two, it's kind of harsh if we aren't coming back to the city.

I'm going to roll with it however. I think I'll be fine.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Her companion is back at her burrow. She would not have brought an elk into the city with her. I suppose we could say she didn't want to leave it where someone could capture/steal it. This would change some of the posts so far as the tree would have had a strange herd animal beside it, but that seems a little thing.

I'll go with having it since you seem concerned about it. I will write it in next time I'm in the gameplay thread.
