Sorry, guys, i promise I'm not trying to drag this out. I'd love to not bone our first attempt at entry and have to go in against a fully prepared, entrenched garrison of demons .. my guess is that this mission will be tough enough, already.
DM Pendin Fust |
I'll give you guys a +2 on your sense motives/sleight of hands/disguise checks if you go for the star wars chewie prisoner idea again.
Seriously.

So who's Chewie in this? Lucius and Thom are acting as fake Crusaders? Or is Thom being Chewie?

Nebbin Elsbet |
Ah, if it could do it just once, we could have taken that. That said, my understanding is Thom took all of Nebbin's damage (which was just 4 hp, since he made his save), so I'm putting him back at full health.
Eben TheQuiet |
Nope. I'd do it if I could, but that's not how it works.
Life Link (Su): As a standard action, you may create a bond between yourself and another creature. Each round at the start of your turn, if the bonded creature is wounded for 5 or more hit points below its maximum hit points, it heals 5 hit points and you take 5 hit points of damage. You may have one bond active per oracle level. This bond continues until the bonded creature dies, you die, the distance between you and the other creature exceeds medium range, or you end it as an immediate action (if you have multiple bonds active, you may end as many as you want as part of the same immediate action).
So at the beginning of Thom's turn, if you are wounded for 5 or more, you heal 5 and Thom would take 5. You only took 4, unfortunately.
Sorry. I'll get ya next time. :(
DM Pendin Fust |
Yeah I think though I might make some mythic versions of some of the upcoming encounters in book 2. Keep ya'll scared :)
DM Pendin Fust |
Go and see it ASAP.
I was a believer before, but after watching it, it is, in my opinion, if not the best then a verrrrrrrry close 2nd to being the best Marvel movie yet. Only Captain America Winter Soldier would be the better.

I'm sure it already is in production. That was probably in warehouse months ago.
And Rocket toys.

I just got back from seeing it, and my friend and I are apparently going counter everyone else. We just thought it missed the mark.
I don't want to go into spoilers, since plenty of people haven't seen it yet, but we were pretty stunned at the seemingly universal high praise it's been getting. I didn't think it held a candle to Winter Soldier, and probably not the original Cap or Iron Man or Avengers, for that matter.
DM Pendin Fust |
I'd love to have an offline chat about that! I've been wanting to hear from someone with a different view!

Oil his hinges? :D
Seriously, though, I’m not sure how to do this without shelling out some cash. He’s got a 0 dex mod, stealth isn’t a class skill, and I want to play him as a heavy front-liner type, so heavy armor (and likely a shield) are all kind of part of the concept.
Though soon(ish), I will have access to Silence, though for most situations, tha’ts kind of overkill .. .not to mention kind of expensive in terms of using it as a known spell-slot for a spontaneous caster and as far as actually using up one of his spells per day to activate.
Secondarily, cloak of elvenkind (2,500g) or Elixir of Hiding (250g per 1 hour use)? Best I can come up with, and both of those will only get him closer to a 0 stealth modifier … not really make him good at it. :)
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
Lucius isn't really going to be stealthy either. He has a +1 Dex, and doesn't wear armor, but Stealth is not a class skill and he trips over into a Medium load (and its check penalty) really easily.
Lucius does better being seen and then convincing whoever saw him they saw something else than avoiding notice entirely.
DM Pendin Fust |
There's always invisibility when that becomes available and I swear there are some boots or slippers that grant a bonus to stealth checks.

So, looking at the loot spreadsheet (and the cache from the Riftwardens that hasn't been added to the spreadsheet yet. I'll do that tomorrow.), we don't have anything to clear a room particularly quickly. If we had sleep or color spray, that would let us focus on the demons. Or a thunderstone could let us get a jump on initiative.
Likewise, there are simply too many for the idea of 'charm one' to be a useful concept.
I'd love for Lucius to finally get some proper use out of burning hands as an area of effect spell, so that might be his opening gambit, but at 3d4 that will average 7.5 damage against targets that fail their save. It's certainly a head start on making sure our heavy-hitters put the targets down on the first hit, but it probably isn't going to take anyone out of commission on its own. So when we storm the room, we have to be prepared a cluster of counter attacks.
Anyone have any clever ideas, before we kick in the door and run them through?

Excellent, let's reconvene on Monday then...busy busy day today at work.

I realize Thom's walking right into a mega-flank, dog-pile situation, and I promise I'm not trying to get him dropped.
It seems worth a gamble to try to keep all the baddies contained in this room in order to keep the alarm from being sounded ... if it's possible at all.
DM Pendin Fust |
Sorry all, whatever I've been sick with is rearing it's ugly head yet again. Spending most of my time sleeping.

Didn't even realize daylight was on the Sor/Wiz list. Having that wand would have definitely been more effective for Lucius than a missed crossbow shot and a plink with magic missile.
I'm still fine with Aero having it - Shining a light isn't exactly the kind of thing Lucius thinks of himself as doing.
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
Lucius's spell list is at its most limited against tieflings and the like: they're immune to charm person and daze, and resistant enough to make burning hands not worthwhile, even if he could catch a large group. Maybe it would be best to let Lucius carry it: that way, at worst, he can keep tieflings from turning the lights out while the rest of the group kills them.
In comparison, Aero has fewer spells per day, but ear-piercing scream and sleep aren't shut down nearly as often.
Sure, I'll have him take it.
Ross Byers RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32 |
We can't possibly carry that whole haul. I suggest that we take what we can use/equip immediately (upgraded weapons, new armor for those that need it, and sell/give the rest to the Eagle Watch if we're fortunate enough to survive this without exploding the entire building.
Lucius will take the slaying bolt. Perhaps Thom or Aero should take the Holy ones?
Nebbin Elsbet |
Agreed. Nebbin can actually use the bow if no one else wants it. I don't foresee him using a ranged weapon all that often, but it'd be good to have one when needed. That said, if Saoirse or Thom would rather have it, that's fine with me.
I'd say one of those two should get the breastplate.
Nebbin probably won't use the sword (I plan to invest a lot of mythic power in his hammer), but might be good to have one if he ever needs a slashing weapon if someone wants to suggest that to him. :)
