Bah, Northern California is the place to be.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

I'll get to Northern California some day. Considering SF for my honeymoon (though I'm considering still a ton of places from Hawaii to Europe, so that's not saying much). I'd love to get back to Yosemite again too.

So, this popped into my head today. Lucius is forming a long term goal of getting the Order of the Godclaw back to Mendev to help rein in the chaos. One way to represent that, mechanically, is to take the Leadership feat to gain a Hellknight cohort.

But Leadership is a contentious feat at best, so I thought it might be a good idea to ask opinions about it, long before we reach 7th level (or rather 9th level, which will be the first time after 7th level Lucius is eligible for a feat).

(Actually, for WotR, we might have the opposite problem of most parties with Leadership: rather than an overpowered almost-party-member, dragging a non-mythic cohort around might be a good way to get them dead.)

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

I have no strong feelings. I tend to think it's a pain in the butt having an extra character, but I think that's probably less of a problem in PBP (though perhaps still a pain for the GM; I know I get tired of my campaign where everyone has animal companions which means that much more adjudicating on my end).

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

It is an excellent point, especially since I was already planning on using summon monster and planar binding to add bodies to the table.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

I don't have a problem with it with players I trust. I would trust anyone at this table to take it.

But I will second that caution for non-mythic characters...enemies WILL be intelligent a lot of the time in this AP so that cohort will be fair game.

But it IS a cool idea :)

Pirate Rob - we've got your weather right now! Actually I wouldn't mind living in Eureka or Crescent City.

Motteditor - SF is one of the most expensive places on earth...bear that in mind. I'm also planning a honeymoon and we are trying to figure out if we want to go to South America or Tahiti or...or....or...

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Well, 9th level is a long ways away. Lucius will probably start casting summon monster at level 5 or 6. So we can see how they fare, both in terms of being useful and in terms of not bogging the game down (or stealing the spotlight) before making a decision.

I'm also eyeballing the Diabolist prestige class, but Lucius is pretty squishy. I think I need the favored class hit points more than I need an imp.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

On a lighter topic, for people planning trips, I can recommend nice accommodations for the Big Island of Hawaii, Key Largo, Harbour Island in the Bahamas, or Vieques Puerto Rico.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

DM, what are the chances i could switch out Thom's 1st level Bless spell for something more useful... AEro's got the +1 morale bonus angle covered pretty well.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Yeah, that banner is pretty good. Till you need both hands, I guess.

Human HP 21/21 | AC:16 T:11 FF:15 CMD: 13 | F+1 R+4 W+4 | Percpetion +7 | 30ft: +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws against fear and charm effects

It makes spell casting in combat a little tricky for me since I need 1 hand for the banner and the second hand for my rapier. Juggling hasn't been too much of a problem for me so far, but I imagine some encounters it will make my life more difficult, and there was at least once where I would have prefered to cast a spell but just attacked instead do to the handedness issue.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Sure I'm fine with you switching Thom. Maybe once Aero gets a steed to hold his banner :)

"You must hold the flag in one hand in order to grant this bonus."

No such luck unfortunately.

Sorry all, my fiance is in surgery right now (nothing serious) but I likely won't have a post until tomorrow afternoon PST. Sorry for the last minute notice!

Thanks for the update, best of luck.

Good luck and a swift recovery!

Hope it all goes well. We can obviously wait...

Agreed. We're fine. Take care of your fiancé... it's good practice. :)

Starting in the next day or so I'm putting together a small group (2-5) to play Microscope as a pbp. It's a GMless cooperative world building RPG. No experience/book ownage is necessary, the Amazon reviews are pretty good if you're curious about the concept.

If any of you are interested I'd be delighted to have you along.

Liberty's Edge

Pirate Rob, I'd be very interested in that. Should I PM you about it?

I'll let you know once I'm ready-ish, by that I mean more ready than I am now.

Here is the opening post for Microscope, I'll be adding more shortly. So far I've got 3 of us and am hoping to get one more player.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

I'd be interested in trying this out!

Fust, come follow the link and say hi/give us some input.

It looks like Lucius is better with the crossbow than he thought. As long as the dice stay on his side, anyway.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Well...he was anyway...

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

I'll stop combining multiple rolls. Sorry for the confusion.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

No its my fault! Thank you for accommodating though!

Also, is Saoirse obviously identifiable as a Crusader by her weapons or clothing? It's important to how Thom would deal with her.

Saoirse is obviously identifiable as a holy warrior at least. Her shield has the symbol of Iomedae embossed on it but her armor and clothes are very normal with no real iconography. If Thom noticed her eyes glowing when she was searching the room that would easily be identified as detect evil by a cleric I think.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Sorry gang, I was called upon to do some construction work on Friday, Saturday, and church all day Sunday so I wasn't able to post! Resuming...

All of our spellcasters are spontaneous, so I think Lucius will refuse the spellbook, leaving it with Aravashnial. Does anyone have a reason to keep it?

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

You know, I just realized that. I don't know I keep thinking that Lucius is arcane. I'll adjust accordingly from now on.

Probably because he's a sorcerer with a scholarly bent. It makes him act more like a wizard.

But don't worry too much about adjusting things. Spellbooks are objects that exist in the world, and they still have value. (For instance, having the Riftwardens think him humble, or having Aravashnial owe him a favor are still benefits.)

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Alrighty...and those favors just may come into play some day...

Lucius is going to take that +1 mace, and some crossbow bolts. I'll update the inventory spreadsheet later today. Does anyone think its worth it to carry extra suits of armor, or want to wear that banded mail, or should we continue our pattern of leaving armor behind?

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

I'd say leave it behind, but Saoirse might want it...

Human HP 21/21 | AC:16 T:11 FF:15 CMD: 13 | F+1 R+4 W+4 | Percpetion +7 | 30ft: +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws against fear and charm effects

I already got the last +1 bludgeoning implement, don't really feel like lugging mundane armor around.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Lucius isn't trying to start a fight, either. But shouting didn't seem to interrupt them, and he can't physically restrain them. Right now, he's hoping that the sudden stop of daze will make them hesitate long enough for them to listen to reason/let us figure out what is going on.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

I'd say Thom could make better use of that morningstar, but I got to start the game with level 2 equipment loadout, and Thom's made good use of the cold iron one that he has... so he's good. :)

As for the armor. If we want to sell it, I'm sure Thom could be persuaded to lug it around.

Human HP 21/21 | AC:16 T:11 FF:15 CMD: 13 | F+1 R+4 W+4 | Percpetion +7 | 30ft: +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws against fear and charm effects

Quick note: I'll be out of town for a Convention from Thursday Night (3/27) - Sunday Night (3/30)

I'd like to let people help keep the Treasury up to date or whatnot, but I don't want any vandal who comes along to the thread to be able to edit. If you have a Google/gmail account, can you post it here or PM me so I can make sure our players and GM have edit access?

I shouldn't be surprised that nobility near the Worldwound would essentially build bomb shelters. Makes a sort of sense: waiting for the demons to swarm over the wardstones sounds a lot like wondering if today will be the day the Soviets push the button.

WotR - A | Drezen | WotR - B | Righteous Medals

Precisely :-)

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

I don't know why this just popped into my head, or why it's important, but I just realized we're plodding around with a lot of heavy, smashy weapons.

Aero and Thom are using morningstars. Lucius has a mace, and Nebbin has a great big hammer. Saoirse is the only one using a more conventional weapon.

HP 47/52 :: AC 23 CMD 20 :: Fort +6 Reflex +4 Will +6 :: Perception -1 Initiative +0

I just picked up a longsword, and I also have a whip and dagger.

HP 92, +13 CMB, CMD 26, +2 Init, +9 Perception, AC 20/13T/17FF (-2 when raging), +10 Fort, +6 Ref, +3/+5 Will Human barbarian 8

It probably wouldn't hurt to get Nebbin a slashing/piercing weapon to carry as a backup at some point, but I plan to take legendary weapon at our next mythic tier. I'm going to pimp out this hammer so much that Mjolnir ain't gonna have nothing on it! :)

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Oh, I wasn't complaining. I'm sure we have our based covered. I just found it funny to realize that all of the men were walking around with glorified bludgeons.
