Meh.

4/5

Good contributions to the system overall. I think the marketing department seriously embarassed themselves calling this a "ship combat overhaul" -- we already had chase rules in Starship Operations Manual and these are just the same thing with a different skin.

Some of the other stuff is reprints from AP's and other sources (like Kitsune, Kayal, and Grippli) so not going to call this a 'must have'.

Loved everything in this

5/5

I've read over most of this by now and I've got to say there isn't anything in this I disliked. On a scale of hate-dislike-neutral-like-love almost everything fell between like and love with just a few being neutral. I really like the changes made to the classes as well as all of the new options. The items are also super cool. I'll also always gladly embrace new ways of restoring stamina points (this book has a few, including a serum for it!)

5/5 I hope we continue to see ideas like this for the rest of Starfinder 1e's life cycle, and I hope we can get stuff like this in Starfinder 2e! Great stuff!

Yay they fixed starfinder!

5/5

Wow! This book fixes a lot of the problems that have been floating around starfinder.

-The envoy is now a level 1-20 class, Doesn't have to wait till level 6-8 to envoy and participate in combat, and opened up a huge variety of action economy instead of being bottlenecked into move get em attack every rounds.

-The witchwarper can now warp witches and still have spells to cast.

-Uses for resolve points. Buy stock in the extra resolve feat future futures.

-A bunch of cool feats

- New ..well everything.

Not everything is sunshine and rainbows then. I still more than a few options that either just don't work, or work almost mathematically worse than other similar option. But its not nearly enough to detract from all the amazing options here.

All of this sounds fascinating, I'm curious how the new versions of the classes will interact with what's already been published (are they designed as "replacements" or are they more just variants of the existing classes that can be chosen instead).

The Technomancer seems like the odd one out in the list, as it's the class mentioned I've seen the least complaints about.

So many questions. Going to be a lot of speculation in the very long time until release. Very curious about how it will play with sfs too

I'm nervous about the Solarian changes but seeing the author list calmed me immensely. My beautiful starchildren are happy where they are, but I'm excited to see how they can grow.

God, I hope not.

Why? A SF2 based on PF2 and fixing some of the biggest issues with the rules (lack of scaling cantrips, starship combat, Ivory Tower design) is quite a frequent call around here.

Starfinder 1.5E?

Just hoping spaceship combat gets fixed, but not holding my breath.

I'm really excited for the revisions and improvements. It addresses a lot of issues from the sound of it- Operative being a better skill class fit even for my Cha-based characters, astrazoan being a better kitsune than kitsune, and Witchwarper feeling weaker than other casters on most points are all things that bugged me personally.

But yeah way hardcovers work, this has to have been in works for years by now :O So the increased desire for non ogl starfinder had happy coincidence with this even though this isn't sf the second edition.

So will this bring SF closer to how PF2 presents its rules?

The same is true on the other side of the house. Not wanting a 2e because the design philosophies don't match up with the flavor.

I wouldn't expect it. This is a balance patch to a system that was originally released as a one-off standalone side product for PF1E. The fact that it spun into an entire second game system due to it being so popular has caused some issues that have piled up.

Don't think of this as a sequel, it's a balance patch now that the game has matured plus lots of new goodies for us long-time players. :)

That's exactly what Pathfinder Unchained was, and PF2 followed soon after, incorporating multiple PU things.

1e pathfinder had way way more issues than starfinder does. There's a few things that could use support or clarifications but for the most part starfinder is well balanced and fun to play. Even as someone who plays and likes 2e I hope sf2e doesn't come anytime soon, I love sf as is (although this type of book is very welcome and I'm super psyched)

Kind of dismayed because the SF module on Foundry is falling further and further behind without Paizo's official backing and Archives of Nethys putting Starfinder on a low-priority list for updates. We still don't have mech support added and I can't imagine how long all these changes will take to implement.

You're right that it's better balanced, but it still can't escape some legacy issues of 3.5e D&D framework it's built on - the skill system being "all or nothing, and frankly don't try if you're not an Operative", cantrips not scaling meaning casters need to blow feats on anti-thematic longarm proficiency not to be useless when not casting slotted spells (I know it's fixed in Galactic Magic, but it's an optional rule), or spaceship combat being ugh.

This book will likely address a lot of the above, but still, give me PF2-based SF2, maybe with some small differences (Stamina system and ABP as default in SF2?). This will also let Paizo have one engine for both games, meaning designers no longer would have to switch between PF2 and SF1 thinking.

We got scaling cantrips in Galactic Magic, just in case you missed them ;)

NM, you said that! Still, other than SFS, its a pretty easy rule to just "turn on"

Please, tell me how you imagine Pathfinder2e is better off with Paizo's official backing, when the data entry is still contributed via volunteer efforts, just like starfinder?

If you are dismayed or unhappy with the starfinder system on foundry, then I invite you to learn how to contribute, because volunteers are the limiting factor to your concerns. The volunteer developers could use more people helping instead of complaining.

You know, be the change you want to be in the world and all that.

As someone who loved what he saw in pathfinder unchained and saw how many of those changes got brought into the core design of Pathfinder 2e, I am super excited to see what is going to be introduced in this. Keeping in mind that unchained came out about halfway through the life cycle of PF1e, I expect that this is something of the same. The kind of changes that several years of feedback have shown that need to be addressed. I am not expecting a second edition of starfinder anytime soon, but I am hoping this will help smooth over the rougher aspects of the existing system.

The rulebook for October are always the most mind-blowing ones! So excited for the unchained Witchwarper, scaling gear, and creature companion love. Stupidly hoping against hope that one of the new races is the Leshy.

Thank you for breathing new life and affection into this most-beloved game.

PF Unchained and PF2 were four years apart. Why would Starfinder Enhanced suggest anything more sudden than that? If I had a new edition planned, I wouldn't bother putting out a half-update right before.

I don't play much for SF anymore, but I WILL get this book. Even if for no other reason than Mike and Ivis. Such awesome folks and great writers. The others are great writers and contributors too, but Mike and Ivis are locals and friends. I'm so glad for them and love their work.
