I'm just hoping there's a GM that wants to run a PF2 AP campaign. I have my preferences, but it's rough finding a PbP for it right now.
Right now? I'm a recent convert to 2e and I'm struggling to figure out where people even do recruitment for it. Everywhere I look, even on these forums, is still mostly 1e and 5e.
Then you add on that I don't want to do a voiced game and I'd rather play via Foundry than PbP on a forum and uuurgh.
KyleS |
Yeah, it's very sparse pickings for 2e of any kind, whether PbP or voice or text or whatever...
Not sure where people actually post looking for players. Maybe nobody wants to GM the system, heh.
It's not hard at all really. Plenty of resources on Reddit to find groups and I've been seeing a lot more people wanting to play PF2e coming from 5e, Foundry's PF2e specific discord server stays pretty active pretty all the time, The Knights of Last Call and their Northern Reaches campaign has been growing constantly and I've heard nothing but good things from my players who take part in it. It's not that nobody wants to run the system, it's just that those of us who are running the system are starting to become flooded by those who want to play.

I'll give those a try. Some links would be appreciated, because I've been browsing for a month and it's been super frustrating.
Although, I'll try not to get my hopes up. I apparently only have free time during a pretty dead time zone, because I can't even find pay to play games for the period that I'm actually available, lol.

There is an Organized Play Online Discord server which has a pretty solid Foundry following.
Warhorn has a lot of online games listed as well. You can filter by VTT to just Foundry if you like.

I'm a PF2E player looking for an online campaign to join, preferably play-by-post but I can do voice as well. I'm mainly interested in playing games in the Golarion setting because I love it to death, and am happy to play in any AP or Module. As a heads up I have completed Fall of Plaguestone before, but I keep my interactions spoiler free whenever I re-run content, so no worries there.
If possible, it would be amazing to be able to play a game that allows Battlezoo 3rd party content. I'd love to RP a dragon character. I know that's a big ask though so its not a requirement.
Here's some random ideas below. Most of these have art because I like to draw characters way to much.
1. Duskwalker Gnoll Champion of Korada, celebrating peace, forgiveness, and nonviolence. Back from the dead but not mad about it, wants to resolve conflict. She will grapple you into submission until you repent.
2. Dhampir Tengu Cleric/Druid, a Follower of Fate, small creepy featherless grandma. Loves to garden, fights with shears, has a garlic leshy familiar.
3. Tumult Dragon Summoner, with a draconic eidolon. Chaotic twin souls that share one body, fused down the middle, split apart to fight together. Fire and ice, ranged spell combatants. Medium sized dragon.
4. Kobold Wizard, small arrogant pepto-bismol colored 'necromancer', nerd with glasses, summoning undead is a pedestrian use of the school, and just gets people upset. Why not get creative and do something new?
5. Ganzi Bard, Very enthusiastic and slightly naive tap dancer, born cheerleader, just wants to help. May not actually be that competent at helping.
6. Conrasu Rogue/ranger, A strange bit of stardust that settled in a scythe-tree sapling of all places. Many very sharp leaves, has an interest in medicine, disconcertingly good at not being seen for how sharp he is.
7. Toadstool Dragon Druid, A friendly little mushroomcapped leshy-lizard. Loves to cook, and scavenge for 'ingredients' of varying qualities. Looks kind of like candy but is probably toxic. Geomancer dedication to cast magic affected by the current surroundings. Only the size of a labrador.

I've posted this before, but personally, I'm not committing to a 3-5 year AP with unknowns. At most, I'll give an unknown a chance with a 6-8 week PFS scenario. If that works out a few times, maybe a 9-12 month Adventure before even thinking about a full AP.
In my experience, outside of PFS, there's a huge flake rate, probably like 30% to make it from acceptance to the end of first combat. A fair number of people get angry because X variant rule isn't in effect or Y actual rule is enforced. I used to be more open but now am very, very meh about dealing with it. Life's too short.
There are a lot of games not publicly posted or not widely advertised, because I'm not a weird outlier. I think a lot of GMs are like me.
The best way to get into a game you want, to be absolutely frank, is to be a reliable GM and pair up with another reliable GM to run games for each other.
Alternatively, especially on VTT, people pay for GMs. I'm not familiar with that world, but it seems to be popular.

Certainly, I'm not sure a pbp would be worth it (though it certainly can get you the ap and game system you actually want, instead of the limited choice of what's available for free).
The art of GMing is way better in person, and like music, there is a big difference between your friend that took a semester or two of band playing music for your bbq vs hiring someone who studied music even into college and learned music theory and composition and didn't just play in the backyard but actually took practice seriously to actually improve their ability rather than just to get praise from friends and family.
It takes a very different mindset for an artist to be worth hiring. However, far too many view GMing as though there's nothing there worth taking as seriously as a professional musician takes music. Too many "it's just a game to be fun." Well music is just entertainment meant to be enjoyed, so why support getting actual professional musicians?
It has been my goal for years now to study the art of GMing as scholar studies music theory. I hope to encourage colleges to have courses on GMing like they have any other artform.
But, you get a lot of people who barely have enough competence to run games for friends but expect to to make money like big name band does. That just sours the market, because potential customers get irritated at the lackluster GMs and stop looking for anyone who might actually be worth the money, which in turn lowers prices just to get nibbles, and that in turn means fewer people actually take it seriously enough to have a professional mindset.
Frankly, I work 12-16 hours a day, seven days a week. I literally can't afford to run a game unless I'm getting about $30/hr, and that only gives me half as much prep time as the expected session, and I'm exceptionally good at the improve and can get by with significantly less prep than most decent GMs I know. I can't imagine it'd be easy to find customers who are willing to pay enough for it to be taken as an actual job. (I totally wish I could get lucky though.) And I'm not certain I'm actually worth $30 an hour. That's $30 a person for a 4-man party for a 4-hour session, $20 if a 6-man party. Are you willing to pay that much for a GM to come run the game for you?

I'm interested to try Gatewalkers if anyone is planning to run that. I have only two PFS scenarios of experience with 2e but with everything happening I considered this to be the best time to try it again.
I'm a committed player that can post consistently and I have played/GMd long running PF1e pbp campaigns before. Currently GMing the start of Book 4 of Rise of the Runelords, it took us less than two years to get there and I managed to run in time the Book 2 sanctioned content for the last PBP Gameday.
On the current topic: I seriously wish one day I could get paid for GMing because I have a baby and live in Mexico, so even $15 per player for a 4 hour sessions would help me *a lot*. Sadly, the baby cuts back all the available time I can have to prepare for a live session. If I could find a way to make it work with PBP, I would give it a try. All I can think of right now is to provide my ko-fi for tipping.

Looking for 1 player for Book 3 of Ruins of Azlant The Flooded Cathedral (link) (Pathfinder 1st Edition)
My table is only running Books 1-3, so the adventure will be concluded at the end of this book. You'll play through levels 7-9 and you'll technically end at level 10 (when the story concludes.) Send me a PM if you're interested!
Here (link) is the original recruitment thread.
Level 7 character
23,500 gold
Hoping to introduce you in two weeks! (Friday, February 10)
You have a variety of backgrounds to choose from:
- You're a second (with party) wave settler of Talmandor's Bounty.
- You're a third (Book 2) wave settler of Talmandor's Bounty.
- You're an aquatic elf from Talasantri visiting the local locathah tribe (The Okoloro) run by Koloshkora. The Okoloro are friendly with the PCs.
- You're a strix from the local Sheshkadrann tribe, known for their artists and musicians. Skalorah is your village elder. Your tribe is friendly with the PCs.
- You're an undercover elven scout from Mordant Spire trying to find more information about a veiled master. You were separated from your small scouting party and hope your ally Nieran is alright. Nobody knows about you or your mission.
- You're a sailor on the supply ship from Andoran, the Argent Cornucopia, that's recently docked at Talmandor's Bounty. After witnessing your ship set ablaze at Talmandor Bounty's dock or perhaps feeling the call to adventure, you decide to stay at Talmandor's Bounty.
- You're a settler who recently arrived on the supply ship from Andoran, the Argent Cornucopia. Perhaps there was a mistake in one of the earlier ships' ledger, or you bribed someone to let you aboard, or you were unable to come until now.

I'm not opposed, but I haven't been running it as a PFS campaign. Regarding rules, is it possible to sign a chronicle sheet for an AP book that wasn't recruited for as a PSF table?

Recruitment for a PF2 version of Crimson Throne is still open yes, but not for much longer. Oh, and we are welcoming players who are brand new to PF2, so if you need an entry point this is a good place

Awesome! I've been playing PF1e for years and have started into 2e in the last couple months. I'm not an expert, at all, but I am getting comfortable operating within the newer system.
I didn't read through all the previous posts here until I confirmed there was a spot for me, ill get started on that now. Any specific character types or builds needed in the party or am I free to go in any direction?
GM DarkLightHitomi |
I believe that AP has campaign mode as an option, so you're free to run it however you like and report it for as many players that would like credit for it.
What is the point of this though? What does the credit do for players, and is it significant enough that some might be willing to try out rule variants for me in exchange?
DM DoctorEvil |
I'll get on that right away, I saw the 20 point buy for characters, any other restrictions or predetermined details I should be aware of before creating? Luke uncommon/rare selections?
My game is in PF2, so no point buy, so you might have the wrong thread.

Not sure if its still the case, but it allows them to apply that Chronicle Sheet (which is usually 3xp or a whole level) to a PFS character and get them leveled up more quickly. Typically, you would get buy in for the Chron sheet if players have any Organized Play characters -- probably enough to try out rules variants, I'd say.

Well, turns out that supposedly campaign mode for pfs can actually be run in a completely different rpg system.
I have a system I want to test and I'm willing to test it by running an AP in campaign mode for the players.
I'd run any AP but I only have the first three books of Hell's Rebels. So I kinda need the players to pitch in on the AP.
My system is taking the pf1/3.x style mechanics and modernizing it but without giving up how objective it is as a casually simulationist system and the very wide scaling from normal people to demigods, while allowing more level advancements at a given tier of play (so if you like gritty level 1-3 play, now you can have that for dozens of levels, or start at superheroic instead for dozens of levels).
Does this interest anybody?

Has anyone got any interest in running Crown of the Kobold King? a 1-6 looks pretty fun.
Back in PF1 the 1-7 Dragon's demand was my favorite module because you got to relativly high levels in it. And Kobold King Looks like it's getting really good reviews.
I've actually been starting to read into this one and am interested in running this series but I dont have the new all in one module, I have adventure D0,D1,D2 ect.

Hi,
Myself and two friends are new to Play-by-Post, in fact they have never played on these forums. I got them signed up to a game where we were playing together; it looks like the GM has flaked.
We're looking for a PbP campaign. PF1
Published content or homebrew, but I have played a big percentage of the sanctioned content and an AP is a longer investment than I'd ask. None of us have played Dragon's Demand, if anyone were interested in running that. Ideally something starting at level 1, especially if it's non-campaign mode PFS, as one of us has no PFS characters. Otherwise, we're flexible.
We're all North American time zones, highly experienced as players, I've been GMing games for forty years now. We know PF1 well, and we are good at reminding each other to do things :)
Two of us are Canadian, so we're nice. The other is in Seattle, that's close enough.
Kirill.Storm |
Curse of the Crimson Throne is known to be a great Adventure Path. I'd be glad to join such campaign.
Other (less) interest I have in Ironfang Invasion as well as Skull and Shckles .
Please tag me if youu see this and it is relevant.
I am pretty experienced and active player although not English language native.
Dr Mufflesnurg |
I'm a new player and I know I'd like to play a Leshy Investigator if anyone would be interested in helping me out.
I've not played the game whatsoever but am learning, I've also experienced none of the world or modules; so everything is new to me.
Not interested in power gaming, making op builds, etc. Just wanna play a silly, little guy with some people that aren't a~%&&&&s to new players. Hopefully a full campaign or at least a game that'll go for a while.
I have no other group obligations apart from sunday afternoon's EST. Otherwise I'm usually not home weekdays until after 1530EST.
Hope this gets at least some attention, been hell trying to find anywhere that has any games that aren't just west marches or "Living world games" or whatever.
Sharkbite |
I would love to play Starfinder: Threefold Conspiracy.
I have a high amount of flexibility in what I will play. First impression is a Human Precog, to present him in the fashion that in the beginning he is a bit of a paranoid conspiracy nutter, then over time he might actually clue into something of a conspiracy, but still he keeps imagining everything is far more nefarious then reality.
However, I can and would readily fill any group role.
Soldier being played as a Pro-Athlete, as a more charismatic version of the traditional melee soldier build, sort of being a minor celebrity and initially very oblivious to what is going on because he is accustomed to people treating him special.
Operative as the Criminal that has gone straight, sort of with the Witness Protection Agency mentality. Not some murder-hobo difficult character; like a con artist who is trying to go straight and keep himself under the radar.
Envoy or Mystic as a Religious Priest, the sort of person who can be made to believe in the supernatural, and always credits things towards faith or miracles, rather than seeing the conspiracies.
I can have a fun time playing any character class, which allows me to be whatever the team needs. I just really want to give a shot at this Adventure Path, and it's one that I rarely see people offering.
Brightberry |
Brightberry is back from his second failed AP! They have both been pf1 Kingmaker-ish campaigns. I would really really like to play him through a complete campaign. He has BIG plans. I'd also be happy to switch him to pf2e. (My home group has finally switched over). The campaign doesn't matter as long as it allows for him to create more less she's in his downtime. His handler is Mahuffma. I have played with some of you here. I am currently playing two and running one other. I am consistent. Someone let Brightberry and his buddy, Redleaf, grow!
Imaginary Crayons |
Not sure if we're all supposed to post here or not, but since I just noticed this thread, I'll toss out my AP wishlist to play from start to finish, in no particular order:
Ironfan Invasion
Giantslayer
Crown of the Kobald King
The Dragon's Demand (Not technically an AP, but close enough)
I know they're all older adventures (Otherwise known as classics!), but I've never gotten a chance to play them, especially not from the start. So if anyone is so inclined to run one of them...give me a hollar.
