Could be that he just hasn't seen that you guys started again. Checking his page reveals that DaJellyman's last post was on the 21st of april. I'm too lazy to check his various sock puppets but it could very well be that either real life ate up his free time or he never got around to checking back with this game after the pause you guys had looking for a new player.
Don't suppose you've heard from our wayward player GM greg?
Also will Ilmakis be popping back in soon? His sheet isn't updated with a spell list for his level right now. So I have no idea what sort of resources he can bring to the fight.
Imalkis if you are reading this bring the fun cleric buffs.
Oh and if you would like to inflict pain on cheating flying things Downdraft is a cleric spell.
As to the dragon thing, I'm all for having an advantage on this thing as Dragons in 3.5 are rather famous for being significantly higher CR's than the bestiary says they are. Compare and contrast the Red dragon and every other creature of their supposed CR and you will see the pattern. Its pretty much true of all core dragons.
Frankly the encounter screams TPK, so we are going to need something clever to break this encounter up into pieces. I'm kinda at a loss on how best to do that, I mean beside going back to the forest giant and asking him very nicely to come help kill a dragon.
Edit: Brainwave, Clerics have this wonderful spell called silence. It wouldn't do much for the hell hounds what with them shooting fire and revealing our presence that way. But the hobgoblins could be dealt with like that.
Wish I had gone for the comprehensive selection of scrolls and single use magic items rather than just being lazy and picking a lesser rod of extend with my money now.
There is an awesome L1 druid spell that can make a rainstorm pop up on a 100ft radius.

Swirls Mist |

Ok, so rufa is going to get botted, reill is getting botted. Is galdamoor getting botted as well?
Or is ilmakis goung to be popping in on us soon?

Swirls Mist |

So in relation to Galdamors evaluation of the situation I would like to scout.
I don't know the situation on Wild shaping for your game GM greg, but I would like permission to shape into the form of a Dire Hawk from Races of the wild.
If not then I shall just use the Winged Watcher spell to bypass the gorge and scout north by foot.

Swirls Mist |

I normally stick with stuff that makes sense for the region. It bends belief for me when a druid from the desert that has not even seen the arctic turns into a polar bear.
Would that mean just like a wizard learning spells I can pay a fellow druid to wild shape into forms I don't know so I can learn them? That could be quite a fun little thing, perhaps druids play a game between themselves of form taking. Something like the fight Merlin had in the old animated Sword in the stone movie with Mad Mab.
Would a sufficiently detailed book permit one to learn such a thing? Or is your preference that druids learn a form by having seen one?

Swirls Mist |

So a question, with the number of books available and the fact that Rhod like most games only assumes core in its NPCs and plot. Are we going to be up a creek if we try to buy stuff from town that isnt in core?
Ex: buying potions and scrolls of non-core spells, will we be able to do so or do the Npcs already have a set list of stuff that we are stuck with?

Borrum Orcbane |

With an army that close, I do not think we have time to wait. In my opinion our choices are to attack now(early night fall), attack in the pre-dawn hours (when some may be asleep), or flee now and warn others.
I have not seen a large enough force in the area to repel this army, so it would take days/weeks to raise a defense. Destroying the bridge may give us that time. I don't know.
If the destruction of the bridge force them around the lake, that may encourage them to disband, as it will take longer realize their goal, what ever that is.
Rufa has engineering skills and I have stonecunning, so we should be able to find a way to being it down if we can gain control of the bridge.
That is my opinion on this matter.

DM Greg |

Galdamor / Borrum due to your mercenary experience you know that this is a vital objective for any traveling large band of warriors.
They probably intend to starts having their forward scouts / troops cross in the morning while the main body will take the better part of the day to do so.
Rufa has her full contingent of spell memorized.
She will use her fly on borrum for him to attack the dragon.
Haste on everyone
Scorcing Ray on the dragon (Borrum please don't fly to far up)
She offers also an Enlarge person on someone.

Swirls Mist |

Crap, grasslands. I read the map wrong.
Also I think that Borrum had a list of spells we were going to use to buff with. I was going to fly across the bridge in bird form and deal with the camp of sleeping hobgoblins. Borrum was going to tank the dragon in uber buffed mode.
Bark skin and Massed resist energy were my contributions to the buff pile. along with my wand of Lesser vigor to give minor fast healing in addtion to whatever other healing is needed.

Swirls Mist |

I was reading the Witchwood map and assumed that the forest terrain at the top of that one didn't end.
Also, was my estimation of distance ball parked right or are they camping on the plains 10 miles out?

Borrum Orcbane |

These where the spells and the rounds/order to cast them in, that i was suggesting.
1) Mass Resist Energy (5 targets), Enlarge Person (Borrum can carry 1040lbs)
2) Bless, Fly, Lesser Wand of Vigor (should leave 8-9 rounds once combat starts)
. [Galdamor and Reill climb on large dwarf]
3) Haste Extended (5 targets), Winged Watcher
. Swirls Mist and Ape flying to other side with move action on rd 3
. Rufa climbs on large dwarf
4) Remaining group Running, Flying, Sleep
. Rufa and Reill cast sleep while carried, Concentration vs Vigorous Motion DC10+Spell Level
. Borrum Running at 40'x3 = 120'/round, not revealing that we have Fly on our side yet
I think if Swirls Mists gets in trouble and needs to retreat back to the otherside, the use of Rufa's web between the gaurd towers will help with that escape.
Otherwise the if we get the dragon to fly between the a set of towers and both Swirls Mist and Rufa can time it with a Downdraft and Web, but that is extreme hopful thinking.
I am both looking forward to this battle and dreading it.

Swirls Mist |

Galdamor casts Shield of faith on Borrum +2 dodge bonus (lasts 5 minutes, Cast as we begin the operation)
Swirls mist casts Barkskin on Borrum +2 natural armor bonus (Lasts 50 minutes, Cast when Swirls mist gives everyone protection from fire.
So long as my animal companion and I stay within 30ft I can share spells I cast on myself with it. So resist energy will be able to hit Catches crows as well.
Swirls mist and catches crows will be moving as ravens under haste (So 70ft move) Not sure if one can "Run" in air but if so that is what he and I will do to get over to the camp full of hobgoblins and murder them in thier sleep. We will either fly/ squeeze through a hole in the tents or return to normal size and just set everything on fire with Produce flame.
I had planned on having Swirls mist turn into a baboon at the other side of the bridge and beat peoples faces in that way, but my use of wild shape is burned for today. So what I'm likely to do is Produce flame and delegate most of the goblin murder to my companion.
this would mean that if there was a signal we had or something like that I could use Downdraft to nail the dragon from anywhere out to 600ft away (downdraft has a range of long and can knock a creature 100ft out of the air with a failed save or 50 ft with a successful one.
Dragons breath weapons tend not to be much more than 30-50ft long so for him to nail us with it he would need to get into that critical range.

Rufa Damnatio |

I'm back from my trip and have been working on getting caught up. Between that and the computer issues, it's been a bit difficult to get on top of things. Just an FYI, I might have some spotty posting through the end of this month yet still.
The only thing I see missing is casting Mage Armor on myself.

Swirls Mist |

Think this is everything as described so far.
On Everyone:
Resistance to fire 10 50 minutes
On Rufa:
Mage armor 5 hours
On Galdamor:
Shield of faith 4 minutes
On Borrum:
Enlarge person (large) 5minutes
Shield of faith (+2 deflection) 4 minutes
Barkskin (+2nat armor) 50 minutes
Fly(40ft move) 5 minutes
Magic weapon(+1hit/dam) 4 minutes
On starting combat
Lesser vigor (borrum) 9 rounds remaining
Lesser vigor (Galdamor) 8 rounds remaining
Lesser vigor (Rufa) 7 rounds remaining
Extended Haste, lasts 10 rounds
Swirls mist gives Galdamor the wand of lesser vigor to heal anyone as needed (he has a CMW for himself and Catches crows)
rufa then drops the rod of extend spell into swirls mist waiting pouch from Borrums shoulder, Swirls mist shares Winged watcher with Catches crows and they fly in tandem to the opposite side. While borrum and crew deals with the hell hound and the hobgoblin guards on that side Catches crows and swirls mist deal with the sleepers and the guards on the other side.

Borrum Orcbane |

Catches crows is large and his back is sloped, it would be reasonable for him to carry one of you.
I can modify my action, both catches crows and I move forward 1 move action as normal then he and I take Winged watcher form (which is a swift action spell) and fly for the rest of the round. This would move a player of our choice 60ft forward on the back of a gorilla.

Swirls Mist |

He has a template, I looked at his page once and was very confused by the fact that a human had dark vision and claws.

Swirls Mist |

We have pretty much novaed everything I can't see what else can be added.
What about the rest of you? Anything else to add to the buff pile, strategy we ignored?

DM Greg |

All of the hasted creature’s modes of movement (including land movement, burrow, climb, fly, and swim) increase by 30 feet, to a maximum of twice the subject’s normal speed using that form of movement. This increase counts as an enhancement bonus, and it affects the creature’s jumping distance as normal for increased speed.

Swirls Mist |

Borrum the uber dwarf that flies like a cheetah with a jet pack.

Swirls Mist |

I can presume that the bugbear and hobgoblin are in their night clothes then? My entire plot relied on the camp being used as an actual camp rather than a place for heavily armored goblins to crouch in wait.
Armor is heavy, sleep is hard to come by wearing it and morning watch sucks if you can't get enough rest to be awake for it.
Even in fantasy I can't imagine that given the chance a warrior would ignore the chance to get out of a sweaty set of armor to rest.

DM Greg |

The Bugbear has no armor but is in regular clothes and the other hobgoblin are in their armor.
You attacked at sunset, not one was sleeping. diner was over about 1h ago.
And yes even in fantasy a warrior would take anychance he can get to get out of his heavy armor anywhance he gets.
But like in the army when you are on high alert on the eve of a big operation and you know there is a band of trouble makers... well you are on high alter and ready to pull a big night before your big mission ends on the next day :)

Swirls Mist |

*shrug* not much I can do about it then. sorry guys my plot was a bust.
Also, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but any attack method is going to work with haste correct? cuz for the next few rounds I plan on throwing fireballs at people and it that turns out to be incorrect my actions are going to change a bit as Catches crows would then be better served moving to the bridge and using the limited space to mail the crap out of hobgoblins.
