Alrighty, I've got something of a weird question. I was playing locally today and someone used a medkit. The GM said to cross it off of the sheet. I'd actually thought that the medkit was a one time purchase that lasts forever??
A quick google search didn't give me anything aside from weighing the merits of the medkit vs. mk 1 serums of healing, so.... Thoughts?
Dax Thura |
Page 218 of the Starfinder Core Rules defines an item's Usage.
Usage: This entry lists how many charges are consumed when
the item is used. This might be per activation, or it might cover
a certain duration. If an item uses a certain amount of charges
over an interval, it uses charges for the full interval even if the
item is shut off before that amount of time has passed. For
instance, an item that uses charges at a rate of 2 per minute
would still use 2 charges if activated for only 30 seconds.
According to the chart on page 219, the Medkit does not have a usage, while a Medkit has a 1 Usage.

Okay now it's my turn for a bit of an odd question. I am playing a level 4 pregen in a game. Since I'm new to SFS, I declared that I would be applying credit to my 701 for this scenario. But then I noticed that in order to access any of Raia's wealth, I needed to invest 600 credits. I do not currently have 600 credits on my 701.
As ammo can be expensive and should definitely count as wealth, does this means that I cannot fire Raia's gun? I assume this rule was put into place to prevent people just using up the pregen's stock of health serums et al, but the RAW reading to me implies the ammo is included.
GM Wageslave |
Did you have the credit/rewards reduced to L1, or are you 'holding' the sheet for when your character reaches L4?
If the former, I believe that the credits awarded is typically 720, 1 exp, and whatever fame/reputation you were able to get.
If the latter, then I believe you'd hold onto the sheet and *not* apply it until *after* the character reaches the tier you played the character in.
Does this answer help, or are things more confusing now?
DoubleGold |
I think he is referring to this...
The Roleplaying Guild character must contribute a number
amount of credits to cover the costs before using any of
the pregenerated character’s wealth, depending on the
pregenerated character’s level: 0 credits for a 1st-level
pregenerated character, 600 credits for 4th-level character,
and 3,300 credits for an 8th-level character.

The only problem with this is that you can't have your rewards reduced - you HAVE to wait to L4 to apply it. The guide was pretty explicit that you had to wait. Unless there is a seciton of rules I missed?
EDIT: Nevermind, found it. And the wealth thing is listed under the resolving conditions part, missed that. Thanks!

Aaaa, that's perfect, thank you guys. :)
Here's another question! :3 I just played Skittershot for the first time and received my chronicle! How do I apply credit for this? Does it become the first XP for whatever Skittermander I eventually get to create? Or do I lose the Skittermander bit if I apply the 1 XP to someone?
Tyranius |
@Hiyami- I sent a PM your way to avoid spoilers concerning your Skittershot boon.

Folks the new Guild Guide has just been updated so check it out. According to the content here are some of the changes that stand out.
A new playable faction has been included: the Second Seekers loyal to First Seeker Jadnura. This includes a table of associated boons, including numerous new boons unique to this faction.
The list of always available playable races has been expanded to include the legacy races.
The required resources necessary to create a character of a new race have been clarified to accommodate special rules reference handouts included in certain scenarios.
The rebuilding rules for characters and personal boons has been clarified.
Numerous faction-associated boons have been clarified or expanded, including hirelings, basic purchases, and improved faction champion boons.
Details are now available for the Exo-Guardians and Wayfinders capstone boons, providing playable statistics for a new race and starship hull.
The instructions for filling out a Chronicle sheet have been updated, including when a PC can purchase and sell gear.
Rules for applying credit have been relaxed slightly when using pregenerated characters in adventures that require the use of such characters.
Information about the Vehicle scenario tag and the Vanity boon descriptor has been added.
GMs' Chronicle sheet rewards have been clarified.
UPBs are now purchasable in single units rather than only in lots of 1,000.
The Tier 2 and Tier 6 Drake starships' shields and armaments have been updated to better match the hull's intended function.
The list of Regional Venture-Coordinators and regions has been updated.

They haven't been added to the tags, you really do have to sort them by date, or else you won't find them. A couple of the more recent avatar updates haven't been properly tagged or aren't searchable apparently. There are avatars I've found on the boards that I searched high and low for (Gm Bret's intelligent-looking and well-groomed half-orc specifically), but only recently found in by searching that way.
Darkrunner-42 |
Oh, I see now. I had tried that *and checked the ends*, and found that the latest avatars were still Pathfinder. Now looking more closely I see that the Starfinder ones are there and about a half page back from the end.

Posting this as I am sure not everyone is aware on how to manually hide a thread from their Campaigns Tab. Quite a few of them are currently locked out with the forum bug that has been happening. Here are some quick instructions to at least get it off of your Campaigns Tab.

It occurs to me that an interesting bit of in-world facts has translated into my actual games.
My understanding is that Ysokis are supposed to be pretty common and, out of my first 2 games, there have been a total of 5 Ysokis, approaching half the total number of characters in each scenario.
Has this been everyone's experience or is this purely anecdotal?
GM Cellion |
Hey guys I'm very new around here, how can I get started in a pbp starfinder game?
Hi Tommo! If you're looking to play Starfinder Society, GMs recruit on a semi-regular basis in the Recruitment tab of this thread. We had a few games start just recently, so there may be a few weeks wait before a new game begins. If you post in Recruitment that you're looking for a game as a beginner to PbP, the next GM running a low-level game will likely save you a slot too.
If you're looking for non-Starfinder Society games, just keep an eye on the general recruitment forum. Every so often, a GM will put up a recruitment thread for a new Starfinder game. I haven't seen too many recently though (I think a lot of groups are still making their way through the APs that have been released thus far).
Either way though, Welcome!

Ratfolk of various stripes have been fan favorites in almost every SF setting I have ever played in. I knew when I saw ysoki as a core race that they were going to be prolific, and I have not been disappointed in that fact. I have yet to play at a single table (10 and counting) that didn't have a ysoki, and only 1 of the games I have GM'd has been without one.

"Hey, hey! We got another avatar update, this time with Dead Suns content!" The Pact Worlds' most famous gameshow host takes center stage, and twirls as he shows off his new look. "Let's give some applause to all the technomancers that made this possible, yeah!"
He adjusts his bow tie, and gives the audience his trademark grin. "Let's knock 'em all dead tonight!"
There weren't as many avatar choices as I'd hoped with this latest update, but it's progress. It's nice to see them starting to work through the books!

I also want to share something that I have really been enjoying lately: Starfinder Wednesdays on Paizo's Official Twitch Stream.
As a gnome who loves culture, it's the motherlode. If you can make the tech work, watch it on Twitch rather than YouTube, because the Twitch stream includes sections of Q&A with the lucky few who can catch the show live.
They've done episodes on Eox, the Diaspora, Apostae, Absalom Station and on the ships of the Azlanti Empire, and the designers dive fairly deep into the lore. If you're a settings GM like I am, there's a ton of fun details here, including some gorgeous art.

Here is a quote from Rob McCreary:
Rest assured, the Starfinder team is hard at work on new Starfinder products! We've announced the Starfinder Beginner Box for Spring 2019, and the Dawn of Flame Adventure Path will run from February to July 2019.
There will be further releases (and announcements of those releases) as we go forward, but it is important to remember that Starfinder's release schedule is slower than Pathfinder's, which means announcements of new products will also be slower.
I would encourage everyone to check out Paizo's Twitch stream—in particular, our regular "Starfinder Wednesday" stream, where members of the Starfinder team talk about things Starfinder and answer questions, and where we'll also occasionally announce new products.
I know they're working on lots of cool stuff that has not been announced. I'm hoping they announce some of it soon, though, maybe in time for holiday shopping!
I'm chomping at the bit to see and run Dawn of Flame. Dead Suns has been fun, Aeon Throne looks fun, and Signal of Screams dropped to me recently and looks interesting too. It's not sanctioned yet, but it could be a really creepy and atmospheric game for high level PCs. I'm also really excited at the idea of the beginner box, because that means we can finally have Starfinder Academy learning adventures for kids.
Hmm

Kuey is correct, for any of our Organized Play characters we sometimes need to tolerate the red or yellow warning, especially if we have a boon or something that allows us to override the general rule. In this case, it is a change that has not yet been processed.
I am sure that Lone Wolf prioritizes general Starfinder content and updates over SFS but they do try to keep up. They need time though as their staff numbers are limited. I know that several of them have been unwell this last week or so, which has also likely slowed down their work. On top of that, they had the last (1.6) update for Playtest to put in place.
I am sure they are aware and it is on their list. I'll drop a word in their forums, just to confirm.
Go ahead and make your Legacy race character, when the update comes through then the warning will disappear. They usually roll out updates to HLO on a Wednesday so if it is an easy fix, it may be as early as next Wednesday that you see the change.

You could also look into using PCGEN. We have a new release going out tonight that adds Alien Archive. I am getting close to being done with the Armory as well.

Upcoming Starfinder Wednesday Shows
I also want to share something that I have really been enjoying lately: Starfinder Wednesdays on Paizo's Official Twitch Stream.
For those of you interested in either Kasathas or Solarians, I recommend tuning in to next Wednesday's show at 4pm PST for Starfinder Wednesday.
Dan's posted an upcoming schedule:
Some upcoming Starfinder Wednesday Shows:
11/28 - Kasatha and solarian lore with Ownen K.C. Stephens
12/05 - Mystery Show... this will make more sense after the 11/28 show I promise!
Can't make the episodes live? I can't either! You can post questions in advance in the Starfinder Wednesday's Fan Club thread, and maybe Dan will ask them for you!

Also, Thurston's comment does make it possible for a PBP game to include Playtest characters.
As long as the character starts a game prior to the cut-off, I'm fine with it [Playtest characters continuing in a PBP game that hasn't been able to end before January 16th.] HOWEVER, please don't abuse this into starting up 40 different PBP/long games with pregen characters to farm a bunch of credit using this system. Honestly, I'm ok with at most 1-3 games of this nature going past the cut-off, anything more starts to really look like abuse.
If you wish to Playtest, please aim for a quick game, and please plan to give feedback by January 16th, whether you are finished or not.

Please also note that playtest credit is handled the same as pregen credit.
This means that you can not give credit to a character that you also played (obviously in a different scenario) anytime during the period in which you were playing your playtest character.

Is there anyway to get a campaign de-activated if the GM has bailed? Thanks to an outstanding effort by GM Saashaa, our 1-12 scenario came to a successful end after the GM bailed on us, but now it's hanging out in my campaigns feed like that snotty kid in elementary school who never wanted to join in on anything, but wouldn't go away either.
