"Hey, hey, Sentients!" The most popular host in the Pact Worlds shows a gleaming smile. "I'm Zo! You might say that I know something about shows that knock 'em dead, so I'm here to talk about a show that I've come to love..."

Zo! points a bony finger at the sceen behind him, which reads, Starfinder Wednesdays!

"If you're not watching it, you're missing out." He pauses to give a big toothy grin. "And I'm not just sayin' it because my man, Owen K.C. Stephens, totally name-dropped me when he was dishing out tourist tips about Eox. There's so much lore packed into these shows, I'm taking notes for future locations for Live Exploration Extreme!"

I've made no secret that I've really loved watching this. Dan Tharp is a great host, and his guests do an amazing job enriching our understanding about the Starfinder Setting. I've really loved watching the shows and listening to the Twitch Q&A. (I say listening, because I can never catch this show live. I have to watch it a few days after the initial airing.)

I want to know... What have been everyone's favorite episodes so far? What topics do you want them to explore in the future?

Thank you so much for the kind words and starting this thread!
This is a great idea.

I want to know this as well!

I'd have to say any episode that spawns an idea for something to make and use in a game. For me the latest episode spawned a pathra space pirate for my starfinder material.

Though really I do enjoy listening to the developers and writers talk about the setting.

Here are some upcoming topics that I would like to see:

  • The Idarii and Kasathan culture in general.

Scholarly kasathas are the rarest race in Organized Play, despite them being a core race. I would love for them to see a bit more love and lore from a designer that is passionate about them and their culture.

  • A more in-depth exploration of the Veskarium, especially with all the new Veskarium races that have been released.

  • 'Monsters I have known and loved' -- with Joe Pasini, the one, the only, the awesome!

  • An interview with Star Daddy Thurston Hillman and John Compton of Organized Play, where you bring Thurston in on the split screen.

  • BONUS POINTS if you can make that split screen shaped like a jar, so that Thurston's head can float in it for the whole thing!

I, too, love the lore episodes, but my favorite show to date featured Amanda discussing the planet Daimalko. We need an adventure set there, please!

Thank you, Paizo, for making hump day even better.

Got a question. Do you have a Harold that is not Undead heretical scum?

Anyways thank i am going to watch the whole listings for starfinder. Dont mind him he secretly loves the undead and it shames him into acting like that.

I have to agree. Hearing about those all people huddled underground while being stalked by monsters... Man, that sounds like great entertainment!

Haha, I am just tickled pink that Zo! is on the forums. I mean in hindsight I don't know why I assumed he (it?) wasn't. Regardless, I for one welcome our new undead media overlord! What a pity, though, that the avatar doesn't reflect Zo!'s true moustachioed glory...yet.

Sounds like some good topics! I too have been enjoying the lore discussions. There are lots of fun goodies tucked away into the Starfinder setting. The Daimalko episode was a great example.

Maybe this is obvious, but I've also liked just getting to hear from developers on a regular basis through the Twitch streams. These days I can open the front cover of a Paizo book and actually recognize a lot of the folks credited there, which is a nice feeling. Kudos to those people for being willing to get in front of a camera and talk to the world. :D

^ This. It's been wonderful hearing and seeing the designers, and getting to know them. I still want a show from Joe Pasini, though! He's the Starfinder Design Team's most hidden gem!

(I hope Joe doesn't want to kill me for wanting to drag him into the spotlight.)

Yay! These sound like fantastic shows. I'm fascinated by Triaxus and its dragon corps, and you know that I want Kasathas to get more love. I'm GMing for a Kasathan envoy in my Dead Suns game, and I've been having fun dropping things about her culture into the game for her. So... Yay!

Dan, tell Amanda thanks for another top-notch show!

One of the highlights for me was the discussion of Dretchnyliax, the cybernetic dragon who is trying to set up an empire selling draconic grafts. I would love to see some of those show up, either in AP backmatter or in Armory 2. I also loved Amanda's suggestion for a homebrew involving the virtual reality kingdom of Grenloch.

    This was great stuff.

    QUESTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK

    1) If Owen's willing to look back to last week's episode on Triaxus, Amanda kept reffering to Ryphorians as being 'elf-like' but stating that they were not related to elves. Still... Pact Worlds revealed that Ryphorians and Elves can have half-elf children together. Can Ryphorians also have children with humans?

    2) With drift travel now commonplace, have any Kasathas gone back to Kasath to check out what's happening there? For a race of scholars, investigating the ecosystem of their dying world could be interesting.

    3) The Witchwyrd's led Kasathans to their exodus by promising them Akiton. Given that the Witchwyrd's are also progenitors of the Shobhads from Akiton, one would think that they already knew that Akiton was inhabited. What is their deal?

3a) Is there resentment from the Kasathans towards the Witchwyrds over this misleading exodus?

    4) Pact Worlds indicated that most of the threats to Kasathan society lie within disagreements between isolationists and those who want to integrate more fully with the Pact Worlds. How troublesome are Kasathan isolationists?

    5) Being crew on the Idarii is sort of a lame-duck job. How bad is their morale? How much of the Idarii's transportation tech has been repurposed for other purposes now that their journey is effectively over?

    6) I know the Idarii is huge, but being confined to a ship, however large, can be problematic. Are they ecologically stable? Will powering their ship for the long term be a problem?

Alright, folks. At the very end of today's show, they announced a PLAYTEST of new STARFINDER classes. I assume that all will be explained in the upcoming December 3rd blog, but for now...

    Mind blown!

On an unrelated note, the questions in advance seemed to be a hit on today's show. It helped the conversation flow, and Mr. Owen K.C. Stephens himself said it gave him a chance to think about answers in advance. So yeah, I recommend it to anyone, whether you can be there in person or not.

"Yeah, and I recommend that somone other than that hilaryquestionmurphy write up questions!" Zo! shakes his head. "Man, you can't get those gnomes to shut up, can you?"

I honestly have no idea what classes might be coming. That's always been at the bottom of my wish list, I think the core classes are fine, even if I think some could be tweaked a bit in their mechanics.

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Subscriber

I'm kinda with Xenocrat. I have no idea what classes they could add that couldn't be covered instead by new magic hacks/spells/connections/specializations/improvisations.

    Grand Lodge

I would personally like to see more solarian-type classes like a more stealth orientated solarian, and maybe a medic type, uses healing lasers, space-paladin, not just star knights and divine champions, and a class with a living pet maybe, speculations and hopes here, i am a GM however but would like to see players enjoy more options!

I think it will be either a new melee type fighter that does unarmed damage or a genetic living pet class that also does mutation buffs.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My money is on an alchemist inspired class.

They should belatedly playtest the core classes and publish Starfinder Unchained.

I'm hoping for a half-caster - it fills a niche that we don't have right now, a la paladins, rangers, mesmerists, maguses, etc. Somebody equally at home with longarms, but also Magic Missile; or a tactical doshko, but also Shield Other.

I'm not certain how it would work with with spells capping at level 6 now, but I have faith!

Also, secretly, in my heart of hearts, I want an update of the entropomancer from 3.5. It never really worked mechanically, but the class fantasy of a magic user obsessed with the void and black holes that eventually plays around with their own incredibly dangerous, barely controllable, pet oblivion is just too good to pass up in Starfinder! By Groetus's black craters, may it be so!

I think the biggest gap is prepared casters. Starfinder has all these cool spells that get very little use because basically everyone is a Sorcerer, so you have a small subsection of commonly used spells.

I can understand the design decision to do those first since prepared casters are harder to learn and use, but now is the time. Since final release will probably be Summer so approximately 2 years in is a good number for more advanced class options.

While I'm thrilled to see what new classes they have in store for Starfinder, I'm much less thrilled to see that there will be a playtest after seeing the toxic swamp that is the PF2 playtest.

    Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

As for what classes I'd like to see, I'm not sure. I do know for certain however, that I hope that they are able to maintain the broadly-applicable, deep flexibility that the core classes have. I'm not really looking to go back to the days of narrowly-focused, hyper-specialized classes.

You saw the original playtest document and thought that was a good idea?

    Exo-Guardians

I think Starfinder players tend to be less prone to spontaneous combustion than the good people over in the PF2e Playtest.

Also I'd like something that actually can contend with Operative for the title of best low level class in the game.

WhileI am breathless with excitement about the new Starfinder classes, I would also be highly interested in an episode that details the ysoki, particularly those native to Akiton, as relatively little is known of their culture. In particular I want to know more about the Nurkop clan that was teased in Pact Worlds. The idea of an ultra rich clan of Ysoki sounds really interesting, and bega the question of what pies have they stuck their fingers in with that many resources to invest.

One has little to do with the other, sadly.

See, there's this thing called constructive criticism, which is devoid of personal attacks and insults. Way too much of the PF2 forum feedback was too little of "I like X but would like Y revamped due to the following issues encountered in play" and too much of "you suck at your job, you're an idiot, you're ruining the game unless it adheres to my vision", etc.

The Paizo team, being professionals, can sift through the crap and find the desired nuggets of gold, I'm sure. But for me, personally, all that toxic noise did was dampen my enthusiasm for a game that I was eagerly anticipating (a new Pathfinder edition, not the playtest doc specifically). So much so that I avoided the PF Playtest boards for months. A loyal fan and customer of 10+ years and frequent forum reader couldn't stand it anymore.

If those wailing, insulting, and demeaning voices prevail, PF2 won't be a game that I want to play or invest in.

I really, really don't want to see that repeated with Starfinder - on any level. YMMV.

When they released Occult Adventures, my favorite options were those for the existing classes. I don't think they have ever released a book with new classes that didn't also have lots of goodies for the old ones.

As for the Playtest, I'm hoping that what we'll see will be fun and different, but also be general enough to cover a wide variety of story ideas like the fabulous classes from core did.

I agree with you that the debate over the Pathfinder Playtest got toxic. So toxic that I finally had to tune out for a while. But I don't think that will happen here. Why?

    1) It does not sound like they are changing the main rules of a game that we've all come to love. It sounds like they're just adding a few options in.

    2) This forum is calmer in general than the Pathfinder one.

I think that we can have a positive playtest here if we all commit to doing so.

My kids and I always tune in for Starfinder Wednesdays (the day after, since it airs too close to their bedtime, haha), and I just wanted to let Dan know that we absolutely adore it! Particularly the sneak peaks into the new Adventure Paths, and the wonderful lore episodes you've been doing lately that focus on the planets and races. I can't wait to see more. We would most like to see more about ysoki/Akiton, and the Vesk/Veskarium.

As for the new classes? My kids desperately want a class that features an alien/animal companion. Currently my daughter has a mechanic with a pet rabbit, whose drone Is essentially a small helicopter-backpack with a gun mount that the rabbit is strapped into so it can fly around (she's six). It's adorable and absurd, but not quite fulfilling the pet urge. Haha.

Me too. I’ve closed all the Pathfinder forums. Maybe I’ll need to close these too. I don’t think the modern trend for playtests/alpha-then-beta releases/etcetera has led to better games. It’s definitely led to less pleasant online forums though.

Its definitely helped several times when a class has been presented as something and then the players take it outside of that paradigm and minmax the heck out of it or actually live with the design considerations. (things playtest occulists could do with weapons, swashbucklelrs getting absolutely no use out of charisma got a tweak, swashbucklers not being able to use rapiers are a few I'm aware of)
