Quick question, Into the Unknown quests states that you can not slot boons. Does that mean the players do not get any reputation or fame with their faction?

GM Elinnea |

Nope, they do get both.

While the quest does not allow slotting of boons, players still get reputation for their respective factions and fame as normal. Quoting from the chronicle in spoilers, relevant text in bold italics.
Variable Rewards: The credits, XP, Fame, and Reputation you earn on this Chronicle sheet are based on your level and how many of the quests you complete. Until you play an adventure other than Into the Unknown, you can continue to play the other quests and earn greater rewards—even over multiple sessions. Circle the number of the quests you have completed and check off the clues discovered using the boxes below. Before beginning a different adventure, calculate your rewards for this Chronicle sheet based on the table below. You can assign the Reputation to any faction that you possess a Champion boon for.

Very excited! I just applied to be a GM for the special. When will we hear about who is picked to run it? I am just wondering because if I am not picked, I would probably run something else but I would be afraid that would make me miss the support deadline.
Either way, I am looking forward to the convention! Thank you to you all who put all the work in in the background to make these things happen!

So, I have a question. Is there a way to have a character 'un-reported' from a game?
Here is the situation. I signed up for a game in the recruitment thread (happened to be first). There was no muster announcement that I saw, and when I checked in, there were already six players in the Gameplay thread. I sent a private message to the GM to find out if I was in the game or not, but received no reply. I figured I was out of his game, so got into another pbp game with the same character. When that game ended a few days ago, the GM of the second game says there was a conflict with the dates in my reported games (due to a violation of the Multi-Session rule policy). It seems that even though I did not play in the first game, that GM reported me as playing. I never posted in the Gameplay thread, nor did I receive a chronicle sheet. The second GM went to the VO's and asked them, and he did provide me with a chronicle sheet for the second game.
So, how do I get this character un-reported from the game I never played it?

I was unfortunately not picked to run the starfinder special this year (which is understandable, just hope to build my resume before the next multitable special). Part of building my resume will be running a few games during Gameday but had a few questions about that. Are their any special rules for having a game in the gameday (for exapmple, are there any rules against reserved seats? I have a friend who just started organised play in general and wants to learn with me as the GM for awhile before he tries with a stranger, can I add him to a game before it goes public?).
Other than that, I just wanted to thank the awesome people who put the time and effort into making this convention happen and their quick replies about the special.

Yes, I tried to release GMs quickly once it became clear how many had applied to run specials with us. It warms my heart to see you turning around immediately to run a game!
Set up your campaign threads before you register on PBP Gameday’s site. In the first post in either discussion or recruitment, mention that you have a reserved seat and five spaces open.
It’s good to have a buddy with you on a game. HAVE FUN WITH IT!

There is a chronicle sheet just starting to appear which has boxes that you get the GM to sign or check off to note your progress towards a boon. We (the PbP Venture Team) have started to get questions about how to handle this for Play-by-Post games.
Since the wording on the boon says that your GM may check it off, please treat this like Faction Card check marks, i.e. ask your GM in discussion for permission and how many boxes, and then check the appropriate box(es) yourself.
We would suggest that you also keep a list for yourself of the scenario name, date, GM, and number of boxes so that you don't take credit for the same scenario more than once. If you use primarily paper records, the back of the boon would be ideal; if you use electronic copies, a simple text document kept with the boon would work well.

Been wondering if we can do the same for the alien archives boon, especially since practically all my games are played online... :) Did we ever resolve that issue? I might have missed it.

Yes, please do so!

That would work for past games, but remember that as of June 14th the date window has ended for the Alien Archive boon.

Hello all, Just a quick pop in. I am a newly minted Starfinder. I am hoping some kind hearted soul (or beneficently programmed Android) would be able to show me the ropes around here. I am not really even sure if this is where I am supposed to post this kind of thing.
In a nut shell I have been playing table top for years. My experience with PbP on other sites is extensive. I have played Pathfinder one time and not once Starfinder.
I am interested in the Starfinder Society season play, as a player until I become more comfortable, preferably starting at the beginning.
OK thank you for your time and hope to play with you soon.

What other RPGs do you have experience with? Any with a d20-type backbone, e.g. D&D 3.5e or 5e? Have you read the Starfinder Core Rulebook, in particular the combat chapters and the chapters about the race/class/etc. you're interested in?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I got my start in AD&D 2E, was around at the start of 3, dabbled a little in 3.5 and D20 Star Wars. I fell out of D&D into other systems (Shadowrun, Rifts, World of Darkness, Marvel, Fate ect) Until D&D 5e which I was involved in a very long running PBP campaign on another site.
I picked up a copy of the Starfinder core on a whim a week ago and I have been perusing it ever since. I dabbled in character gen using a free character generator and rolled up a Lashunta(Damaya)Outlaw Mechanic. I would be the first to admit it is probably not munchkin-ed to perfection but it seems fun to play.
As for the hard core crunch, I glanced it over and kind of get the idea, I would need some practice to actually learn it though.
:)

![]() |

It's similar in a lot of ways to 5e, but it's a bit more crunchy, you get more feats than 5e gives you by default, and instead of just advantage/disadvantage, you get mathematical bonuses or penalties to things. Action economy is also tighter, making strategic movement more important. For instance, if you move up and then attack, you can't continue your movement after your attack, unless you have an ability that lets you do that. If you move, you can only attack once, generally, so you have to decide whether your position is good and you want to make multiple attacks, or if you need to move and just get one.
Play-by-post is your preference, you said?

SanityAWOL |

Play by post is my primary method of getting my RP fix. It is just too difficult to get a meat space gaming group together.
In your experience does Starfinder translate well to PBP or does it require a lot of "special modifications"? I admit I am kind of worried about the map based aspect in combat. My GM for the 5E game used a map and updated it as we went, I am honestly not sure if that is the norm or he if he was just really dedicated.
I grew up with abstract combat and am comfortable with that if that is what most people use.

Spacefarer Redelia |

Hi, SanityAWOL, and welcome.
To answer your most recent questions, we have a few adaptations that we make so that Starfinder runs smoothly in Play by Post. We change how intiative works a bit (players who go before the next bad guy can go in whatever order they post), and also have to change the order of things in Starship combat a little. Almost all GMs use maps; most often the maps are in a Google Slides or Google Drawings document that the players can also edit to move their own character.
If you want to try a game, keep your eyes open for a game in the 'recruitment' tab and let the GM know that you're new. A lot of the recruitments right now are for games for our convention that starts in August, but there should also be some ordinary games mixed it.
Let us know if you have any other questions; there are lots of friendly people here who are willing to help out.

![]() |

Combat is mostly done using Google Slides for images, or sometimes a VTT like roll20.net. Sometimes combat is done in theatre of the mind, but in Starfinder Society we really are supposed to use a map for nearly everything so that rules are consistent.
The only thing that has a little trouble translating to play-by-post is starship combat, which is usually because starship combats tend to take more rounds than ordinary tactical combat, with each round going quicker in face-to-face play. Play-by-post can slow this down, so GMs usually a few things to speed it up, like moving for players if they go for a day (or less) without posting, if that is slowing down the round.
Organized play follows specific rules, mostly from the core rulebook, with just a few changes specific to the organized play setting. You can get the guide in PDF format here: Link as well as an explanation of the setting, factions, and a "Welcome" boon to help you get started. You should download the guide and make sure your character meets the build rules therein.
After that, there is a play-by-post "convention" starting soon, with the first game slot starting August 13th. However, it might be worth the trouble to run a introductory game for anyone who wants to get a scenario under their character's belt before the special or anything like that.
If you're interested, I could set up a recruitment for The Commencement, which is intended as an introductory scenario.

Alright, I've set up recruitment for what will hopefully be a quick run of the Commencement. One spot is reserved for SanityAWOL, and the other 5 slots are first-come-first-serve.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and helpful advice. I really appreciate it.
@GM Paladin thank you for starting a game for me, I downloaded the Roleplaying guild guide V1.0 and I don't see anything that would disqualify my character. I will head over to your table now. Thank you again.

Hi, guys,
We're seeing someone trying out posting spam in recruitment threads. If you see this, please 'FLAG' it as 'SPAM.' It's OK to talk about the existence of it, but let's not give the annoying companies that do this any publicity by mentioning who they are or linking to their posts, OK?

Reminder for everyone as I have just been made aware of this. Scenario #1-11 In Pursuit of Scoured Past is missing the bonus reputation in the scenario.

Hello, sorry if this question on the Unchained Barbarian has already been answered in a FAQ but I could not find anything.
I cannot see the reference on Ex-Barbarians for 'normal' Barbarians which stated a barbarian who becomes lawful loses the ability to rage and cannot gain more levels as a barbarian but retains all other benefits of the class.
Question: What happens to a character with levels in Unchained Barbarian that becomes lawful in PFS?

![]() |

@Noral, I think this should be asked over at the Flaxseed lodge .
However as written it appears that there would be no penalty for being lawful. One could argue that they cannot gain levels, as they don't meet the requirements for the class anymore, but there is nothing in the unchained writeup that says they can no longer rage if they become lawful.
And in PFS2, lawful barbarians are permitted. And both Skalds and Bloodragers can be lawful.

Concerning the Special.
I am looking over the Sign up sheet and sent a few PM's out to players that have not already signed into their table's thread to see if they have any objections to shifting around so we can fill each of these tables with at least 5 folks.
So there may be a small bit of moving of players here in the next couple of days. Obviously this will all be based on if they signed up to play with a specific GM or not.
So if you see a little movement do not be alarmed. I am not moving anyone around without speaking with them first.

GM Hmm |

Thank you for taking the time to rebalance tables, Tyranius. Most appreciated.

It is the start date for a two-three month extravaganza. PBP rarely finishes in a month, let alone a week. I don't think I have ever seen one finish in a day! That said I'm aware there have been some pretty quick Confirmation runs from time to time.

Hi, Blaq Foxx! Welcome to the pbp boards of Paizo! I'm sure you'll get a warm welcome from a lot of people here who can show you around a lot better than I can, but in answer to your question the PbP GameDay VII isn't a single day event. Most play-by-post games expect one post a day and games typically take 30 post on the low end and 75+ on the high end, so most games take 1-2 months.
Also the event has two sessions, the first one starting August 13th like you said, but the second half starts October 1st and will run until November 12th. Most of the games will start on thos start dates, but some might start a little later.
If you're interested in playing you could readily find a list of open tables here or, if you want to take on the challenge of a guaranteed faster pace, you can try one of the multi-table specials here!

Whoever made that happen is amazing. Thanks to the Venture Captains and Paizo for the surprise!
No, I don't have them all yet. Just one. So don't be alarmed if you don't have yours yet. It takes a while for them all to drop.

There will be a Gencon-related outage of the utility known as GM Hmm from now until August 7th.
Basically, I’ve sent my brain ahead to GenCon. It’s already there, plotting to take over the world. I am hoping that it will get reunited with my body when the rest of me flies into Indiana on Wednesday morning, but one never knows.
I am unlikely to answer emails, PMs or message board posts during this period. If you wish to have help, please contact Chris Marsh, Redelia or Magabeus. Thank you all for understanding.
Hugs from your temporarily brainless VC!

Hi,
Most of you won’t know me so sorry for taking up your time, but I was a regular before vanishing at the beginning of the year and rough patch towards the end of 2017. I just wanted to apologise to GM’s and Players for that and negatively impacting your experiences.
I am feeling a lot better and really missed the atmosphere here and all the cool people I have had the pleasure to roleplay with and keep hearing great things about the forums from friends and blogs etc.
I am looking to start playing again, but I totally understand if some people don’t want me around as it sucks to be messed around.
Sorry for taking up your time, enjoy your gaming!

If you did not find a game at the end of August shoot me a PM, I currently plan on running a SFS scenario in September and would be glad to have you at my table.
