The book also expands on the rules options for these ancestries and versatile heritages. Finally, Lost Omens Ancestry Guide also features new ancestries and versatile heritages including some that are brand new, as well as old favorites from throughout Golarion!

One of the best in the catalogue

5/5

I finally got around to buying my own copy today, but I've loved this book since release! Giving some oddball Ancestries a chance to shine (my beloved Androids!) with not only interesting rules, but phenomenal writeups of their varied ethnic groups and cultures. I'd gladly buy a second Ancestry Guide if it hit on some of my more esoteric favs - Lashunta, Minotaurs, Wyrwoods - with similar care here.

I can't praise the art enough, either.

5/5

An excellent book full of a bevy of options for all the previously released ancestries as well as tons of new ancestry and versatile heritage options. As standard for Lost Omens books it's also accompanied by a bevy of details and lore for all the folks of the Inner Sea and beyond. A very excellent book for anyone who wants to break out of the Core Rulebook options. I think some of my favorite additions are the geniekin heritages. Being able to have a touch of elemental power on any of your favorite ancestries is so much fun. The available variety is incredible.

5/5

This book definitely helps enrich Golarion with more unique demihuman races. I only wish a few more races were covered. Such as minotaurs, caligni, munavri, rougarou, nagaji, vishkanya. But, it's still good!

Not to me they haven't. :-( I suppose this is probably related to the problem I've had getting email installments of Liane Merciel's tale. Ah, well, waiting is...
Yeah, I haven't gotten any emails from Paizo in quite a while either.

Indeed. We have an opt-in bug and I am looking forward to it being resolved since one of my goals is is to increase the size of the email list. But I'm sharing the images on social media so no one feels burned. Thanks for your patience.

Do you have a link to said socials I am highly interested in the android ancestry and would love to get a gander and maybe use it alongside the Guns and Gears Playtest.

You know, something else Paizo did with races in the 1E Advanced Race Guide, was that they created playable stats for Lizardfolk and Gnolls and we know they have already released Lizardfolk in 2E and Gnolls will be in the forthcoming Mwangi Expanse. In the Advanced Race Guide, they also statted up playable Centaurs, Driders, Gargoyles, and Ogres. I doubt we would ever get Driders before Drow, if ever, but it is something to consider... and Gargoyles do have wings (just sayin').

Also, with the new monsters as playable ancestries angle, we also already got Hobgoblins and we know we are getting Sprites and Fleshwarps, too. So, what if 1 or more of the remaining ancestries we don't know also have Bestiary entries, like Nymphs, Axiomites, Xulgaths, Minotaurs, Satyrs, Boggards, or something? (I'm staying away from the aquatic creatures since we know Azarketi are the aquatic ancestry getting support in this book)

Gargoyles would be insane. I would be very into that, lol. Still doubt it'll happen but if it did, big win for ol gaulin

Hm. Here on this boring planet Earth there is, so far as we know, exactly one sentient species. On Golarion there are what, a couple of dozen? That's... surprising.

well its a fantasy world created specifically so that players can play whatever character they can imagine, so no its not really that suprising.

Yeah and humans on Earth are a result of evolution, while races on Golarion were created by gods, I assume

Also, Golarion has Aiudara gates to other worlds, confirmed alien crash landings, manufacturedand frequent travel to and from other planes of existence, artificially constructed life-forms, and creatures derived from magic and alchemy - both intentionally and accidentally created from carefully controlled experiments and from mutations out in the wild.

Driders are technically Fleshwarps, so...

Also, Gargoyles as an Ancestry would be COOL!
(Or so my nephew tells me... I don't disagree!)

I feel like I should clear up this often made misunderstanding, so I shall do so :D

Sentience means that you are capable of perceiving, experiencing and feeling things subjectively. Aka, LOT of animals are sentient, non sentient being wouldn't be capable of feeling pain and would essentially be automaton that does things on reaction without brain function.

Its what the whole basis of animal rights is based on and why animal cruelty is a crime :p And why its debated on whether lobsters are sentient and capable of feeling pain when boiled alive.

Sapience on otherhand is what people usually mean when they use word "sentient"... In otherwords, whether organism possesses self-awareness, consciousness and ability to think, ability to have "wisdom" so to speak. Ability to think and use knowledge and past experiences to do new things.

...And if you paid attention to that and know lot of animal trivia, you'd know that "wait a check, cetaceans, cephalopods and corvids all fit that description!" and yes, dolphins, crows and octopi are (in debatable sense, it depends on who you ask because humans don't really like to think hard on whether putting sapient beings on aquarium, eating them or treating them as pests is ethical :p) sapient as well ;D

(but seriously, point was that even when people don't confuse sentience and sapience with each other, they usually don't realize that humans aren't by definition of sapience the only species on this planet that qualifies. Debatably of course depending on which researcher your ask ;p Its whole reason why its debated on if alien life exists, whether humanity would be even capable of acknowledging other lifeforms as "intelligent" as intelligence takes many different forms.)

That's silly, everyone knows humans are the third most intelligent species on the planet, after mice and dolphins.

Ed is correct that there is only one intelligent species on Earth. He never said that humans were that species. ;)

Yeah, I shouldn't have used the word "sentient". Sloppy of me. OTOH, according to my dictionary "sapient" means "a member of the human species", so that doesn't really cut it either. I think what I was looking for is "reasoning". Although I've met quite a few humans over the years who don't seem able - or willing - to do that.

I mean, if you had meant that there is only one human species(currently, as the other ones are extinct) on earth, then that would have been about right, can't find dozens of them on Golarion :D (though yeah, humanity leads well to all forms of jokes about unwise behavior)

Still though seriously though, besides my pet peevee of sentient/sapient confusion, I am actually bit surprised at your surprise about there being dozen intelligent species on golarion. I mean, bestiaries have hundreds of them in total, most of them aren't even playable. Like any fantasy setting with intelligent monsters has by definition lot of sapient species.

If it helps, there used to be multiple species of humans living on earth at the same time. Archeological evidence suggests that we might have eaten at least one of them.

Golarian and the other multispecies fantasy worlds might be a alternate dimensions where that did not take place.

Silver Crusade

Will Paizo port over Primitive Humans from 1e over to 2e?

Can weeee get a glimpse of how long the new races can live for? Hoping we get a few more spoilers like that before the books out

Interesting find as I'm flipping through books and AoN: Sinspawn are considered Fleshwarps, which I had forgotten about. Would be fun to play.

I hope that previews will be coming soon.

Pathfinder Adventure, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

So would a stitched together Fleshwarp character have negative healing trait and be considered sort of undead like the Dhampir?
That would cover a sort of undead type ancestry or maybe we'll just get Mortics which would be neat

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

If I were to hazard a guess on the last four ancestry/heritages it would be: Ganzi, Aphorite, Strix, and Samsaran. I base this guess on what aligns with products that have released and those that have been announced. Along with the various teases by the paizo staff. I'm probably incorrect but thought I'd guess just the same. :)

Part of me holds out hope that the Wayang makes it, but sometimes it seems like I'm the only fan of them around.

The preview images on Twitter this week from Paizo was the Aasimars, with one of the two images there was an Aasimar with colorful wings and head-wings. Perhaps something akin to the Coatl?

I am featuring new art every week in email and social media for them all, which will take us long past the release date obviously. Have to showcase them to the world! We also have a preview blog, short fiction, and free NPCs blogs planned.

Well, I guess with the Aroden's Eye weekly email showcasing the Aphorite today, that seems to confirm them for the Ancestry Guide. Also, with their appearance in that book, I think it is safe to surmise that the Ganzi will also be in the book. Appropriate with the Mwangi Expanse book coming out this year, I think, since the Ganzi were introduced back in 1st edition in the Distant Shores book and were located in a city on Garund. So, that makes 2 of the remaining 4 ancestries/heritages that were a mystery so far.

With Luis telling us that 2 of those remaining 4 had wings, I'm keeping to my guess that the remaining 2 are the Gathlain and the Strix.

Interesting! I know very little about aphorite or ganzi except what little I can find on aonprd. Seem similar to aasimar and tiefling but law and chaos aligned? Aphorite seem a little boring but ganzi seem like they could be super cool. I wonder if either of them would have a fly speed?

Aphorites are to Lawful outsiders and Ganzi to Chaotic outsiders as Aasimar are to Good outsiders and Tieflings are to Evil outsiders.

Okay yeah that's what it seems like. Maybe jumping the gun a bit here but I think Ganzi could be awesome, just looking at their first edition entry. All about chaos and mutation, tons of stuff to work with there. Aphorites are a little harder to envision for me, feats about law and order and normalcy. Looking forward to seeing everything!!

Ganzi and Aphorite seem parallel to aasimar and tiefling... Do we expect them to be heritages? Seems neat if so. Would bump us to something like 7 and 7 between ancestries and heritages? Two more unknown ancestries to be revealed.

All assumption. Ganzi not even confirmed to be coming.

The email specifically said Aphorites were a new heritage.

There was a Ganzi in the last Adventure Path entry, so I assume they'll roll it out with this book as well. Possible that this will even be one of the entries with eventual flight.

I hope the actual heritages for these new VHs are more interesting than "gain low light vision, or darkvision if you have low light vision." like all of the APG ones except dhampir were.

I would love playable ogres
