Lan's EI rolls from the first 3 weeks are out of the order in which they were posted; they should be, in order, Task Level 2, 3, then 4. This is important because the first and third Succeeded, and the second Critically Succeeded.
I'm revising to:

Week 2: nat 20 vs Task Level 3 (DC 18): 8 sp/day = 5.6 gp

Alright gang,
Crazy week for me, won't bore you with the details, but, just putting the house back together tonight, and jumping back on the horse tomorrow during the laundry run (I can get in a few good posts between loads - indeed, some of my biggest DM posts have been crafted at Camden Clothesline).
@Lan - you asked about being able to gauge progress with the "winter prep" checks. I'm going to keep you guys "in the dark" for the rest of Summer, so to speak, banking your progress, then will be prepared to give you a satisfactory answer as we begin Fall (which also kicks off with Downtime).
=)
DM rainzax |
Alright gang,
Got a quick 30 minutes so let me address one more outstanding question, and how I'm going to handle it.
@Sigurd,
You asked about going about researching the Ritual to Restore Pick's Memory. Since Sigurd does not know the ritual (he just knows that it exists / is possible), I'm going to have you research it first, using the same Level / Rank as the ritual itself, modified by +5 for being Rare! I'm going to say the threshold (# of successes) needed on this skill challenge is equal to the Ritual's Rank. So for example, if the Ritual were considered a 3rd-Rank Spell, thus having a Level of 5 or 6, it's DC would base at 20 or 22 modified by +5 for being rare, and you would need 3 successes to learn it.
Let me know if this makes sense. Once you "hit" the DC, I will share the DC with you moving forward.
DM rainzax |
Someone please check my math! Back for more later!!
Auntie Wu |
I forgot that failures still earn some gold, so I've recalculated Auntie Wu's first month of downtime.

Second month, Level 3: 8.12 gp (2 successes on Task 3 for 3.5gp each; 2 failures on Task 2 for 0.56gp each)

Sounds like a plan. Since rolling an 18 failed Sigurd will need to level up or acquire outside research to make it remotely possible to learn the spell.

Let me check that again...

Nope, you are right, GM mistake. That is a success. I will amend when I get a moment.
The DC to Learn the Ritual to Restore Pick's Memory is a DC 25, and you have already earned 1 of 3 needed successes!

By the end of Summer, I'll ask that each of you assemble a similar post that shows the money you made for Downtime. It won't need to be as detailed as Auntie Wu's (links, formatting, etc), but I will ask that you do it for yourself, and report out month by month (3 total each). If you would rather not, that is fine, but in that case I will ask that you also forfeit the extra cash.

The DC to Learn the Ritual to Restore Pick's Memory is a DC 25
Even at DC 25, Sigurd needs a nat 17 to Succeed, or a nat 16 with an Aid Success (nat 15 with an Aid Critical Success).
If Sigurd is going to attempt, Lan can Aid with Religion +6 (so 5% CF, 40% F, 45% S, 10% CS). But I just wanted to coordinate and make sure you're going to attempt.

Another thing.
I think I mentioned this near the beginning of our time together.
We fought centipedes that talked, and other creatures that acted strangely, when Willowshore was first infested.
If anyone is willing to look back and see if they had succeeded (or better) on a check to Recall Knowledge in the many fights we had with strangely-acting creatures, I will pay those forward as "free" ⭐s towards Researching the Willowshore curse if performed in the heat of combat.
Strangely acting creatures: creatures with ordinarily animal intelligence but displaying abilities beyond what is typically their modus operandi. If you are unsure, go ahead and ask here. Example: Not the Noppera-Bo, Jinkins, Gurglegut, Mo Douqiu... as these were intelligent actors.
Here is one example I was able to find: LINK

Can we shift (mechanically or by flavor) Lan's weeks so that he Aids Sigurd's research on Pick's curse (Week 1)? I realize that, knowing the results, it's futile, but as GM has pointed out, it's what Lan would have done without knowing the results.
With the die cast, I am going to hold you to it, meaning the time for Aid has passed.
Ergo, "flavor", and when you get a moment, please choose your 4th week!

Question to the group:
Lan would like to get rid of his family heirloom, which is a chunk of cold iron fashioned into a statue of Fumeiyoshi. One possibility is for Lan to either Craft or buy a cold iron longspear, but it might be more useful mechanically to make it a cold iron katana (for Sigurd or Vekka) or cold iron arrows (for Kazuki). Anyone interested?
If so, Lan will use his last week to convince Huo Tian-Zhe to craft such an item.
Lan can use Deception to convince him that the statue isn't what he thinks it is, or he can use his Alter Ego Dedication to have Crafting +5 and maybe disfigure the statue enough so it's unrecognizable.
DM rainzax |
Mechanically, this would be a Craft / Earn Income roll using an alternate skill.
You are free to tell whatever story with the results (sort of "within reason" etc)
=)
Vekka Tchakon |
since Vekka's katana is his heirloom (and is already somewhat enhanced), I would pass the right of first refusal to Sigurd and Kazuki.

Auntie Wu, as you have a neat easy total for me to calculate (4.62+8.12+24 = 36.74), I will enter it into the Downtime Spreadsheet (see campaign tabs "Downtime Spreadsheet ➤ Downtime and Wealth Tracker"). Your funds are available immediately! As we will remain Level Four moving into Fall, go ahead and spend your cash. If you guys can copy Auntie Wu's move here, I will add yours as well.
