Now recruiting for We be goblins 1 and We B4 Goblins. Short scenarios, very short, so I can handle them. Plus I have tons of held DMing chronicles for my one PC and I can't level him up until I get him past level 1. It would be awesome when the DM runs a high level game, say book 6 of an AP and I end up bringing in a never played PC cause he got there via Dming credits.

Alright, this is my first attempt at this.
Probably going to mess it all up...
The people at my regular Pathfinder Society game group highly recommend play-by-post so i'm trying it.
quick history as a hand shake.
I'm a 50 year old gaming veteran (No, not a military veteran. I've just been plating for many years). my 19 year old son and I have been playing Pathfinder as a duo (meaning our characters are pretty much joined at the hip) for a bunch of years. We are looking to try play-by-post and my understand of play-by-post is very shaky.
we are looking to join in a scenario that is starting up.
we have a character duo locked and loaded (a 1st lvl leshy Kinetisist (mine) and a 1st level Wayang Magus(his))
I don't know what else you need or actually how you folks are going to respond to this.
I'm including my email address as a back up
lee-a-michael@centurylink.net
i hope this is at least somewhere near where i need to be.
thank you for your attention and patience.

You're in the right place :)
I am certain a Venture Officer and/or some other friendly people will be along shortly to answer any questions you may have.
If you have a moment, might I suggest you read the first two posts of ... >>CLICK HERE<< by way of an introduction to Play by Post?

I was nervous when he was younger that he would not be into RPGs, but I lucked out.

Welcome, Michael!
If you keep an eye on this thread here you'll see a game open up eventually. Then just follow the link or instructions the GM provides and sign up you and your son. Most are first come first serve for entry, but if it's not you'll want to mention that the two of you want to be selected together. People around here are pretty friendly, so if you have any other questions all you have to do is ask.
My kids also started at three and four (with very loose rules...). I adore gaming with them. They're young still. I hope they don't grow out of it. Haha.

I’d love to get my kids into this (4,6,15,17) but I bought the Pathfinder beginner box and the older two just struggled with it. Any tips for the very young ones? Suppose you have to ignore most of the rules? What are the key ones?
There are other, much-less legalistically written games out there than the mutant spawn of D&D 3.x.
You might try games that favor atmosphere over rules.
My list is WAY out of date, but personal favorites include: Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters International (both by West End Games and both a laugh riot, they are the proto-versions of the d6 System--which itself isn't bad and includes the original Star Wars RPG); Call of Cthulhu (for the older kids who like horror, any of the Chaosium editions are fine avoid the d20 clones). There are some slightly more kid-friendly games like Teenagers from Outerspace, and Toon, both fun, but 4 and 6 are pretty young even for these games so I would just steal ideas from them and play these with your actual teens.
There are some systems that blend rules, flavor and storytelling really well like any of the Second Edition games set in the World of Darkness (Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling, and Wraith--again older kids only--with the possible exception of Changeling--maybe).
There are some fine superhero games out there too, like the second/third editions of DC Heroes RPG by Mayfair (before they lost the rights to the system). It is what I would call my favorite superhero system. It's easy to learn and fun to play and there's a whole web-site of enthusiasts who keep the game alive--and prove that it is a dang fine universal system for you to create your own setting and adventures with. This one is probably the best given your age range (and assuming you want them all at the same table at some point) though I still don't see rules being big thing for kids under 10.
One more to add to the list, old D&D as it was in the Red Basic and Blue Expert boxes (and then maybe Teal and Black boxes). The best version of this without all the colored boxes is probably the D&D Rules Cyclopedia--one book with all you need. Still, it might be nostalgia talking, but the Basic set (in the red box) walks you through all the rules with good examples and Larry Elmore art! Much better than either the D&D 4.0 or Pathfinder Basic boxes I think.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Hi All. I am contemplating my next GM game and thinking about running 2-01 Before the Dawn - Part 1 - The Bloodcove Disguise. I have a sign-up sheet here and would be looking at starting running next week, after the official end of PBP Gameday. Gauging interest for now.
Having trouble editing the sheet on my iPad but I have a Lvl 1 Human Monk ready to go if you have a slot

We played Pathfinder beginner box rules when my kids were 4 and 8. The 4 year old was someone's pet cat, and I insisted for the first game the 8 year old was the pregen fighter. I made up some claw attack that seemed reasonable for the cat. We played within the rules to the best of our ability. It was maybe 6 months until we were playing the CRB.
Now, I do tend to be a 'softie' in terms of enemy strategy when playing with small kids. An NPC who an adventure says develops romantic or sexual interest in a PC might instead decide a character's animal companion is the cutest thing in the whole world. I often make characters for my kids, while asking them questions. I think we've had to start reusing Disney princess names as the names for my daughter's characters. :)
If someone is looking for a fun rules light kids' game, the one I have had a positive experience with is called Tails of Equestria.

Brilliant! Definitely will look into this and the Tails of Equestrian. My 6 year old daughter loves Unicorns so I could turn Black Fang into a unicorn that needs rescuing :-) Just read a great tip as well about having a real treasure chest with chocolate coins in or candy hearts for med kits- endless possibilities!

Right now I have a full table and it looks like a 1-2 table. I do have a level 3 signed up for that table too and someone on the waitlist. I will run a 3-4 table too. I'll add you to that list. Others are welcome to sign up to that too if they would like.

I’m getting ready to run #6-20 Returned to Sky (7-11). The game MUST finish by 1/13/19, so be prepared to post regularly to help meet that deadline. Priority is given to the Exchange, Liberty’s Edge, and Silver Crusade factions. Recruitment Here.

Hi Michael, I entered your name in GM letsuna's sign-up sheet as you probably are not accustomed to this methodology of recruiting and were asking for a game that starts soon.
Please see the link he provided below and also include all the information they requested.

Michael, should you not be interested in the game then please inform GM letsuna so that he can give the spot to the waitlist players.
Thanks

For kids under 10 you can try Hero Kids. It is very simple system.
I will second this one. My kids played Pathfinder a couple of times, though they knew it as the game with "Daddy's figures", but the system that they picked up for "regular" games with Hero Kids. Rules are simple, success on a roll is readily apparent (and likely with a d6 than d20), and the kids prefer rolling multiple dice. The system has worked well with my then 4 year old (now 8) and current 4 year old (still 4) as well as my current 10 year old (who started playing hero kids at age 6). The two older kids have played SFS, but have each remarked that a 3-4 hour game is "too long". Most Hero Kids scenarios that are available run around 1-1 1/2 hour.
My 10-year old is a huge Tails of Equestria fan, though she hasn't been able to get a regular game going as she has trouble finding players outside of her dad and brothers (who usually abandon the game's she has started).
All of the kids have expressed interest in PbP, particularly the older ones, but I have yet to find a way for them to play here that I feel sufficiently comfortable with. It is not that I have found any players here that I think are objectionable (and I believe I can largely control for that anyways), but it is more a matter of managing their access. I may yet experiment with a PbP kids game over the holidays with school being out and poor weather limiting other activities.

I had a blast running a game with meloriel's kids, and would be down to run a kids-only or kids and parents game in the near future. My son is a bit too young still.

I hear you GM Valen. I highly restrict my kids online time (they seem to get so much screen time at school anyway these days), and the general principle of limiting the type of social media sites they have access to.
Maybe I'm a bit of a ludite, or trying to stop the rising tide, but I'd prefer to keep them off line as long as I can.

Once the GameDay is done, I'll probably put out feelers for a Kids and Parents game. The idea being that the game should be kids and a parent so they have some degree of parental supervision. Obviously, will keep things G rated. Not sure if it will be PFS or SFS, but either way I plan to look for a more light-hearted adventure. I'll probably run it at a somewhat more strict 1 post / day rate, meaning that I'd expect 1 post per day before botting, but on the flip side I will not progress the game faster than 1 post / day so people don't feel the need to obsessively check their games. Keep a nice slow but steady pace, unlike my normal games where I try to respond as fast as people post. Unless I'm asleep.
