Does it award XP, or just the gold?
It provides rewards in a similar manner to the sanctioning for Wrath of the Righteous. 3XP, 4PP, and gold based on character level.

To NostalgiaCon GMs:
If I sent you an email early this week asking which GM boon you want, I probably did not receive your response due to a technical problem. Please resend your email back to me.
Thanks! I wrote my preference in the reporting of my game but I have not received any message or the GM boon.
Have they been sent out?
Thanks a lot!

Mine ended up in spam because gmail didn't recognize the return address.

Is it just me or is there a general problem with google docs?
I am unable to insert a picture (so I cannot place a token with a profile picture). The respective menu item is grey and cannot be selected.
Doesn't seem to be a browser issue - Chrome, Edge or Firefox, it does not work in any of them.
I have the same problem in all my games, so it isn't a specific document problem, either...

Does anyone else in the games have the same issue? My first thought would be a permissions problem, at least if you're using someone else's document.

On a completely different topic, NostalgiaCon ended the same day that Outpost V started, and I figure that PaizoCon's online games will be ramping up around the same time that O5 is winding down. Are there any plans in the works for the next online OP event after PaizoCon?
Indeed we have a couple of things in the works. Keep in mind that none of this is not set in stone until the Announcement is made.
1.One event we are trying to plan after PaizoCon that we can do for newer players. A very short event consisting of just Bounties and Quests.
2. The next one will be Gameday. (Expect the Announcement in July) Gameday will run from beginning of September to beginning of November. We are trying to work out running the brand new SFS and PFS2E Specials that are releasing in August as well as Race for the Runecarved Key.

Announcement!
I wanted to inform you all that we have a bit of the transition within the VO team. VL Michael Hallet will be slowly transitioning out of the VL role in the coming months. He has increased opportunities in real life that he is going to pursue. He will still be found around the many PbP Lodges playing and GM’ing so he won’t be disappearing completely.
Please send out your heartfelt thanks to Mike either here or on Discord (MichaelHallet#9245) for all of the fantastic help and assistance he has provided the PbP Community. Mike was instrumental in helping get the registration, signup sheets, Con Support, and scenario Support all linked together and ready to go for each of our PbP Cons. Mike also was a key player in helping get the initial PaizoCon Online up and going on short notice when COVID started. This helped get a large portion of the world shifted into online play so that games could continue earning him his Campaign Coin (#837)
With Michael Hallet leaving that means we will need to backfill that position. I am excited to announce that Brad Grinstead (bigrin42, bigrin42#2231) has accepted the position. Please send out congratulations to Brad as he will help the team look over all of the Discord Lodges to help foster continued growth and fun events.

Random question:
Does ANYBODY have any Shifter-class characters around here???
I was just thinking earlier today/yesterday I'm reasonably sure that I haven't seen a single one around here.

Tried... but hit a wall at mid-levels due to impossibility to punch through monsters' damage reduction, namely, the ever-present constructs/golems and their DR X/Adamantine... had to switch to a barbarian with a big adamantine sword, of course... :P

Shifters do also have Druid-weapon proficiencies, so nothing too wrong with investing in an adamantine spear/sickle/dagger/scimitar...and there's potentially another way for Shifters to tackle that as well....
Since we're on the subject: Could Shifters make good grapplers?
I'm formulating my own idea for a Shifter, and I'm looking at at least a couple routes....

![]() |

Good to know there's one archetype that lets them have adamantine three times per day, but cold iron, silver, and good DR also pop up regularly past level 5. Until you can afford the 64K amulet of mighty fists +4 and later on the +5 version for alignment-based DRs, be ready to be outdone by the barbarian, fighter, paladin, ranger, occultist, rogue (chained or unchained), regular druid, warpriest, bloodrager, slayer, etc. (honestly anyone other than mesmerist, psychic, sorcerer, wizard or bard... oh wait, arcane duelist bards can kick their arse too... huh... nevermind!)
:P

Yeah, I did notice, and it didn't change the fact that such a shifter is still screwed when he/she meets a golem. Which always seem to happen a lot.
And since they're supposed to be a martial class, I got bad news for you, but granted, the bad news won't come until later... much later... when it will hurt said shifter the most. So, let's not talk about it, actually. And pretend the shifter will somehow 'shift' into gear, somehow, to... adapt to the situation... :P

You can have a +2 greatsword and a +2 warhammer and use which is appropriate to get +2 to hit and damage. If you need to use your neck slot for a golembane scarab, you don't get any bonus to hit or damage.

![]() |
And your greatsword takes the same slot as your warhammer, do you keep swinging your greatsword at something immune to slashing or take the actions to change attacks?
Do people seriously not spend money on alternative options?
ermmm........no?
I sic my overpowered fellow pathfinders on them.
I just tidy up the place and place remains in the appropriate corners.

BretI |

TOZ has a point, sometimes an item can be more efficient.
A golembane scrab costs 2500 gp. Adamantine costs 3000 gp plus whatever the weapon costs. That can be a lot of money if you want it magical.
If you normally use Handwraps, your handwraps are going to be your best attack option. Carrying an ‘extra’ +1 adamantine mace or something like that would cost far more than a golembane scarab.
You don’t need to dedicate your neck slot to the scarab. What you do need to do is check with your GM before the game on the most action efficient way to change the active item in the neck slot. The rules say only one item can be active.
Worst case, you need to remove the current item, stow it, get out the scarab, put it in place.
My experience is that most GMs will not require that full sequence.
Instead you put both items on, with the one you don’t always need (golembane scarab in this example) being the one that is deactivated. Some GMs would have it be the first item put on, others might make it any subsequent items. Either way, you should be able to figure out a way to have the primary item be the active item.
When you need the golembane scarab, remove the other item. Optionally stow it if you don’t want that hand full. Since there is now only one magic item in the slot, the golembane scarab should activate. I know of nothing that defines when, so once again check with how the GM wants to do this.
I do something like this on a few of my characters, only it is with the swarmbane clasp.
It isn’t a waste of a round if it turns you from being incapable of hurting a creature to being able to hurt it but losing a different ability — whatever you normally have in your neck slot.

Not every party has a wizard.
I fully agree that as a party you need a way to deal with challenges. This is easier in home games than society play since you hopefully have a stable group.
Golems are particularly problematic since any spell that allows SR will either not work or work in a different way than normal on a golem. Might not want to depend on the spellcasters as the primary way to deal with such a challenge.
If we are talking about society play, you may not even have a wizard or sorcerer in the party.

![]() |

Golembane scarab is a good backup until your amulet is +4.
True, and many homegames have this item in the party bag as a backup. It's a bit harder to have backups in PFS where each character must carry their homes on their back (i.e. be somewhat self-sufficient and unable to depend on a long-standing party mule carrying the funky, once in a while stuff).
In PFS I have a character with a golembane scarab, but he has never used it... (i.e. wasted money by now, bought at lower levels). Most fights are over in 3 to 4 rounds, and the good ones may go to 8 or 9 rounds. It will usually mean, for a shifter or other martial PC, too much of a cost in action economy to change things, and frankly most players are not familiar with the action requirement to swap items around. My PFS PC never stopped mid-battle for like 1 or 2 rounds to change things around and instead did accept less damage, mostly for strategic reason like protecting the back row fellow adventurers who are not supposed to do the tanking or to prevent enemy casters to do too much damage from afar.
For a high level shifter, changing out of a +3 amulet of mighty fist is even more of a problem, as they are a low-crit, low damage dice build that cannot really afford less damage per round, compared to a barbarian or paladin, who usually hit far above their weight. Not many players would remove that amulet in the middle of a fight. But granted, between keeping that +3 amulet and bypassing DR 10 or DR 15/Adamantine the choice is clear. You just have to account for the loss of a round or two's worth of attacks, depending on how your GM will view the whole undonning/donning of amulets... (in itself not a 'fun' thing for most martial PC players though)

This is handy for natural attack vs adamantine (but not hardness):

As is this if you can find someone to cast it on your claws:

Good find! the shifter is definitely a class that needs teamwork or combos like this to work, which is better suited for homegames or at least APs/modules played in campaign mode with some kind of party design up front. Which is probably why we don't see many in PFS 1E (coupled with the fact that it came late towards the end of 1E)

Thanks for all the hard work you've put in, Mike!
I, for one, welcome our new Biggrin Overlord.

Does anyone know how one might gain PFS access to a Celestial Shield? I have a character that bought one years back but today do not understand how that was PFS legal. A quick scan of chronicles did not reveal the source.
Own a legal copy of Ultimate Equipment, have enough fame, and pay 13,170 gp for the shield.

![]() |

Ultimate Equipment on its own is not a legal source for the Celestial Shield - see Additional Resources.
I suspect this is one of those cases where they specifically wanted to make something a chronicle sheet exclusive reward.

BretI |

Strange, I never roticed that.
All specific magic armor on pages 124-129, except breastplate of vanishing, catskin leather, demon armor, enchanted eelskin, hamatula hide, mail of malevolence, morlock hide, otyugh hide, scarab breastplate, and warden of the woods are legal for play.
All specific magic shields on pages 130-133, except avalanche shield, belligerent shield, celestial shield, dragonslayer's shield, elysian shield, living steel heavy shield, tempest shield, volcanic shield, wyrmslayer's shield, and zombie skin shield are legal for play.
Seems strange that they allow the armor but not the shield.
Would need to appear on a boon sheet or chronicle sheet in that case.

![]() |

Seems strange that they allow the armor but not the shield.
Allowing this shield would mean characters that can fly permanently, effectively. It cheapens other characters with fly speeds or those who need several levels/feats to gain their fly speed.

There's a lesser Celestial shield on the Chronicle sheet.
Can be upgraded to a Celestial shield.

Thanks for the reminder. One of my PC (a cleric) has it, and the chronicle gives direct access to it if you pay the upgrade cost. Nice!
I now have something to do with this (rich) character's gold... lol
