GM Hmm |

So... Pretend that you were able to request some website improvements that would make life easier for PBP.
What would you ask for? Please list your wish items into the following categories:
1. Urgent
Stuff that really needs to get fixed / changed now.
2. Useful
Features that would make everyone's games easier.
3. Nice to Have
Not super necessary, but oh... It would be nice.
____
If you could dream, what would you like added to make PBP on these forums easier? I am interested in seeing your lists, and see if they match with mine.
Hmm

1. urgent: restore -1 characters... and add a confirm button to the delete function for characters, like there is for deleting posts (especially since 'delete' and 'edit' are right next to each other for characters).
urgent: add SFS race avatars to the options available
2. useful: more text options, like color, strikeout, underline (and if those are already available, show how in the 'how to format your text' section.
3. nice to have: a way to connect via smart phone so we get notification alerts when there is a post in one of our games.

GM Hmm |

Heh. I see some of us are already thinking along the same lines, JAFO.
The only text option that is currently available that you mentioned was strikeout. I only learned about that one by seeing it on the forums... It's a stealth option!

On a similar note, I've been fervently hoping for this for a long time.

PbP ramblings:
Idk if the team has anything to do with this, but opening up the Wayfinder app to the US would be nice.
Some kind of integration of maps and the forums would be great. Having a bunch of tabs open for one game can get obnoxious. Merging them in some fashion would be awesome!
SFS avatars. Please.
Going over the avatar tags. Some of them don't make sense/are wrong/could have more.
Seconding JAFO's sentiment, notifications of some kind on my phone would be cool.

GM Hmm |

You can always see what formatting someone is using by using the reply function. Keep the suggestions coming! Please let me know which are URGENT / USEFUL / NICE TO HAVE.
EDIT: The Wayfinder App is third party. Doesn't Oladon make it?
Hmm

EDIT: The Wayfinder App is third party. Doesn't Oladon make it?
Nope, but she makes the Paizo Campaign Tools add-on, which y'all should use if you don't! I dropped her a note to come by here and join the conversation, as she's steadily implementing new stuff for the add-on and may be able to make some of this happen more quickly than Paizo might. For example, if everyone in your game has the add-on, you can do the color text stuff that JAFO asked for - but it only works if the writer and the reader have the add-on installed.
At PaizoCon a couple of years ago, someone said in the online play panel discussion "We've been playing PbP for years, and the only thing you've added for us is strikeout." It would be great to get some new stuff!

Another vote for USEFUL: underline and colour.
Though I am OK if you want to leave the 'u' out of the text-code for 'colour' ☺
Great minds, JAFO!

GM Fuzzfoot |

Useful:
- Easier way to take over a thread when a GM goes missing, or at least an easier way to retire the thread when done
- Way to fix Core -> Standard conversions that shouldn't have happened, or even a way to report and check status on if it needs to be manual
Nice to Have:
- Ability to reorder the threads on my Campaigns tab. Keeping GM ones together and at the top would be very helpful, and keeping ones that have more stringent posting rules up top
- +1 for adding color and underline to text
- Nesting spoiler tags (spoiler within a spoiler)
- lookup tool for finding PM links for people that sign up for games but haven't checked in

You do it by having the sub spoilers just be plain
tags. Don't add an = sign to your sub spoiler tags.

Oladon |
Khel pointed this discussion out to me. I'm not the one behind Wayfinder, though I've engaged in some discussion of creating a replacement since its creator went missing.
Preface:
I've talked to Paizo on a few occasions about helping them update the forums for PbP. Unfortunately, I don't think it's a priority for them right now (my offer to help them remains open). That's why I've spent a /ton/ of time on the extension. There are a whole bunch of features I want to add to it -- though of course I'd be happier if they were built into the forums.
Re: above discussion:
Eadie, your post shows underlining to me, thanks to my extension. :) Color (no u) is also available, as is
mostly-space-preserving monospace-font styling
.
Fuzzfoot, the ability to reorder your campaigns page is one I've been wanting to add for a long time... go vote for it in the poll thread!

Useful:
There could be a button next to the text entry area labelled: Add die roll That presents a popup with a simple label, die size, and bonus with a default of 20 and 0. This would insert a basic die roll into the text area at the cursor and put the cursor after the 0. Do you know how many times in PbP I've had to enter a die roll with all those brackets and terms and fudged it and had to re-edit? What a pain in the arse when it could be streamlined. Same for quoted text. Insert the start and end tags and the quotation marks and leave the cursor between the quotes. In fact buttons for all the major PbP tags would be nice. This has the advantage that new players would be helped along figuring out how to produce thoughts, dialog, and die rolls.
I realize this not particularly useful for most threads, so perhaps these would only appear if you ask for it in your profile or could be removed if requested. Or it could be the default/present for some threads (like gameplay threads) and not for others.

DebugAMP |

I'd love to have the alias tab overhauled to be more useful for documenting a character. Having to shove character info and spoiler tags into the race/class entries is a bit awkward.

![]() |

Kind of Urgent, Unquestionably Useful:
Somehow enable PFS character avatars to still change their names after 10 posts for those of us who can only play on PbP, so we can Mr. Potato Head our 1st-level characters just like we could as in-person players.
See my above post and link. I know it probably wouldn't be easy for them, but I think it's a worthy endeavor.

![]() |

According to Tonya, you can now apply Welcome to Pathfinder boons at any point in the career of your -1 Society character. That's right, my eleventh level sorceress may now apply this boon. This is a change from previously stated policies, so I wanted everyone to be aware of this posting.
Thanks,
HmmEdit: This was the 5000th post of my GM Hmm avatar. Wooo!
I will enjoy flaunting my welcome to Pathfinder Society boon to Iammars as we finish Eyes of the Ten. 13th level and I still want my damn potions!
Anyway as to the question at hand:
Useful: Fix the search function in "My Pathfinder Society". Right now search functions in both games played and games GMed are kinda borked.

![]() |

Oh yes. I'd love to be able to set a default alias for my various games. I know the ones you have already used come up earlier, but if I accidentally use a GM post in a thread, for the rest of its life it seems that pops up top of the list. Useful
Outside of PFS, I'd like to be able to have more variety for the types of threads within a campaign. Nice to have
I'd like to be able to hide text from certain players (and not rely on spoiler tabs).
Nice to have
Character sheet integration (like in MW) would be fantastic. I know we end up using the status lines from the character sheet for this, but that is not really what they were designed for.
Nice to have
GMs to be able to edit posts more than an hour old. Especially for tracking things like purchases or changes to chronicle information - trying to work through five different posts to get the latest information is painful. I end up using the campaign information section for that a lot of the time now, but it is clunky.
Useful

Oladon |
Useful: Setting an alias as the default for a thread instead always the default. For example, I post constantly as the wrong character in one pbp because my character in my other one is my default. It's not urgent because it's an easy fix but an annoyance that wouldn't be hard to implement.
This feature is available in the browser extension, just so you know.

GM RePete |

==Useful==
Nesting spoiler tags with an = sign would be something I'd like to see. Mostly just because I feel it'd clean up the wall of Knowledge checks.
A way to fix Core vs Standard reporting glitches.
A simple way to deactivate abandoned games when the GM disappears.
==Nice to Have==
Ability to manual arrange games in campaign tab for preference.
Ability to set default characters for campaigns manually.
PM search tool.

I don't disagree, but I have gone away from having players post their chronicle bits in the campaign threads. Playing a game GM Granta ran, exposed me to the google forms. Loved it!
So I use those for my games now. You can set it up for the players to fill in their bits there and have it convert to a spreadsheet for easy (and separate) referencing.

![]() |

I'm thinking mostly for tracking in game purchases. When folk stock up on anti-toxin mid scenario etc.

![]() |

Write?
You mean with a pen and paper?
My goodness man, what were you thinking?
Carting stuff around to keep notes for PBP is not my style, but that of course is why I put this as a Useful, not essential rating.

GM RePete |

Ah, misunderstood you. I could certainly see that being helpful.
I don't cart notes around for PbP, but I do keep notes for each campaign on a google doc. Admittedly, not an issue when posting via computer, but somewhat annoying on the phone.

My current wishlist:
1. Urgent
- Starfinder avatars
2. Useful
- More format options (underscore, at least one other color)
- The ability to upload a textfile (csv or something like that) for reporting
- The ability to download all sessions for one event in the same format
- Sorting campaigns on my campaigns tab, different options I want:
a) Games with most new posts first
b) Games in which I am the GM first
c) Sorted on date of opening post
d) Sorted on date of last post
obviously I want to be able to use multiple of these options to resolve ties.
3. Nice to Have
- Option to PM multiple people in one post
- Option to watch a game without dotting (and deleting), so these games could be put lowest in the sorted campaigns.
- Full character sheet integration in alias
- Option to remove myself from the player list of a campaign if I am not the GM (I know there is a way around this currently, that is why it is a nice to have)
- The option to rename aliases after 10 posts
- The option to delete aliases after 10 posts / mark them as deleted so I can better manage my aliases.
- A seperate category "Starfinder aliases" in my aliases and also "Pathfinder Adventure Card Game". Either put each category in a separate tab or put them under something akin to a spoiler button.

Stuff to add/fix on the website,
Urgent
-Fix how pms are viewed. They need to be in a thread format so I can see a discussion in full and in context.
-Additionally, allowing me to use the back button to jump from a pm to the pm list would be nice.
-sort/organize the focus list with add/remove options
Useful
-additional color tags,
-nest the bigger and smaller tags,
-sub and superscript,
-all caps
-Language groups
-allow more threads to be tied to a campaign so I can split/merge parties, have a bg/info thread, etc
-have a darker color scheme, I hate white/bright backgrounds on websites (or any other application for that matter).
-change the character sheets. (they don't need all the separate lines, just the big text box and a box for the line that shows up under the name on posts. The other lines get in the way when not used and harder to use, and lack flexibility. Such a thing should only be used if they are used for something else, such as the following suggestion.
-have a few preset dice rolls. For example, under the sheet for Zizi the Masterless, I might fill the "Attack" box with the attack and damage rolls, then in a post I might put a tag like [preset=Attack] and it would pull the attack and damage rolls from the profile used to post the message.
-have other presets, such as setting a character for a campaign to override my default alias to a different default for the threads in that game. Could also then tie language groups to this so I see the languages my character in the game knows as readable but not languages unknown to the character.
-the ability to organize aliases, campaigns, pm conversations, etc
-make posts a two column thing, names, status lines, and pics on the left, post body on the right.
-sortable/searchable threads, such as searching a thread for posts by the gm between certain dates containing certain words, etc.
-sort a character profile's list of posts, particularly be able to sort by thread.
-allow the primary/first alias to sort through all alias' posts and liked posts.
-make pfs/sfs character aliases in the menu (for adding/deleting, changing avatar, etc) easier and more obvious.
-link music audio to play without jumping to a different site.
-give editable Titles that can appear in front of an alias' name in the same format.
That seems like a good start. :)

Z...D... |

Urgent=Starfinder Avatars
Useful=More text formats, like underline and colors
Being able to send more than one PM at a time.
Being able to nest the spoilers with = in them
Nice to have=the ability to re-designate the deleted -#. I have like six numbers permanently removed. Was a little slow on the once gone, gone forever thing.

3. Nice to have
I'm a serial tinkerer of first level characters and the option to change alias names after 10 posts would be super nice.
As a fellow tinkerer, I'd bump this up to Useful. I have a character I don't play at all because his name isn't conducive to what I (now) want for him.

I know that on my laptop there are ways to do it, but many of my posts are from a phone and plus that seems like a function that should be built into the website, not something that should be downloaded separately. That being said, when I am on the laptop, I love the extension.

The extension is available for Firefox for Android, as well as Chrome and Firefox on the desktop. If you're on an iPhone, you're out of luck for now.

Useful: this above + some way to reset a character as CORE...I have 1 character that has never played Classic, and is CORE, but I accidentally set it up as Classic and then made a post locked.

GM Poblano Pepper |

Useful
One thing I thought about, though I'm not sure if this exists but, my idea was to make an option in all campaigns to allow a GM to Designate an Overseer GM in there Campaign thread that will allow an overseer for a special, or some such, the ability to mass post to all game play threads when they must do an overseer announcement with out having to go to each and every 'table' and make the announcement manually.
Maybe making a sub tab under the Campaign tab to allow for viewing of <Campaigns-as GM> <Campaigns-as Player> <Campaigns-as Overseer GM> To allow sorting of campaigns and maybe putting certain "tools" under each sub tab.
Also allowing an overseer to see the time stamp of the last post for each game being overseen so they can step in if needed to check on what the hold up is.
Just some thoughts that came to mind.

![]() |

Useful The ability to directly link an image would be great. At the moment you have to just post a link, which kind of works, but doesn't help with the full emersion effect.
While I'm thinking about it, one bit that annoys me at the moment is that when even I post a roll and preview the post, I lose access to the information at the top of the forum, where often we have link to maps and such. I'm not sure why that happens, but it would be great if it didn't happen.

![]() |

A lot of good things have been mentioned so far, and I don't have anything new, but I'll throw my votes toward some:
Urgent Starfinder Portraits. Not losing the top of the page during preview, as Aerondor said above.
Useful More options for text. A way to actually hide GM rolls from players so they can't metagame certain information. Redesign of the Private Messaging which in my opinion is a major headache to use.
Nice to Have Some alternate color schemes for the website.
An easier way to unsubscribe from threads, or remove an alias you accidentally posted with without needing to request the GM do it.

JAF0 |

useful: better support of maps, ability to remove self from campaign rather than having to hide it
HOw do you hide a campaign? I didn't know that was possible... I have always just had to wait til they age off, which takes a couple of months, and that's if no one posts to that thread's gameplay in that time...

EbonFist |

Just to be the curmudgeon, and maybe I don't understand the terminology...but aren't the avatars just the pictures?
I've seen a LOT of votes for Starfinder Avatars, which seems nice for immersion but not necessarily as useful as a modification that actually eases forum usage or provides additional functionality.
I mean, it's nice to have a representative picture there but would it really matter if each person in a game just had a different color in that box?
Or am I missing something?

![]() |

With the limited options for Starfinder races, not only is the pool to choose from small, but many of the icons are similar, or are actually the same person. Which can be confusing on a map or when reading posts.
Also on a forum dedicated to playing your own character that you designed, I'd say the ability to represent that PC is pretty important.
I see what you're saying, that it's more Quality of Life then an actual problem, but for me it would significantly improve my enjoyment when playing Starfinder games. I'm already in a few and the avatar redundancy had gotten a little confusing at times.

EbonFist |

Ah...I totally forgot the battlemap aspect. Makes much more sense, now. Especially since I obsess over and cut up and pin together my miniatures IRL.

Tundran |

Lots of great ideas here.
Useful:
- Agree on the point about not losing the game header when previewing a post. If I forget to open the map before hitting "Preview," it's a whole process to get back to it at that point.
- More avatars of non-core PC races in general. I haven't played Starfinder yet, so I can't speak to how annoying that is. But there are races which are PFS-legal which have very few or even zero representative images in the avatar list. There's not a single "grippli" for instance.
- Like others, I would really appreciate the chance to change alias names or delete them.
- More user control over the campaign page. I love the "Overseer GM" idea.
Nice to Have:
- I like to break out my roll modifiers so I can see what's happening. But if I'm in combat and I am attacking every round with a bunch of temporary buffs/conditions, I have to type that all out every time. Yes, I can copy and paste for multiple attacks in the same post but I would like the ability to do that from my previous post. As it stands now, when you quote a post with a roll in it, the formatting has changed substantially. How about a "Reroll" option where it copies the roll formatting for you instead?
