As for a psychic, I haven't seen one but I do have an idea for an Amnesiac Psychic I'd like to play at some point.
I played an Amnesiac in a one-shot home game recently. The concept was very interesting, but the application didn't really push the amnesiac concept very hard; the one-shot took place during a single day, so we never really tested the whole "amnesiac" thing. I'm curious how that would work in PFS; would one need to create some sort of "spell tracking sheet" to keep an active list of known spells?

Now mind you I haven't seen a vigilante either so I might not be the best reference.
Yea vigilantes seem far less common than any of the occult classes. I believe I've seen only one vigilante so far, and the character stayed in vigilante identity the whole game.

I've signed up for a pbp game (first time!) with this character, and had a couple of questions. Zin and another player were kind enough to answer a question I posed in the recruitment thread, but I don't want to clutter up that one and decided to switch over to Discussion instead.
If/when I begin the pbp adventure, I understand that I should suspend adventuring with this character on tabletop (which makes perfect sense to me), though it appears I can continue to adventure with this PC until the start of the pbp adventure. I presume this means any levels gained will carry over into the pbp adventure (and I'd be careful not to knock myself out of the tier I signed up for), but I'm a bit fuzzy on how/when I upload or post my character sheet. Is this done once the adventure starts, or maybe a few days before? Does the GM provide a place for me to upload the character sheet, and is a pdf format OK, generally speaking?
My second concern is that not all of my character's sessions are inputted under her profile. I obviously have all of the chronicle sheets that detail her advancement, however. Would it be customary to upload or otherwise post these as well to show the GM in advance, or is this only done if requested (presumably as an audit-type situation?)
Again, thanks folks. I'm really looking forward to participating in pbp gaming. I've had a lot of experience on my own board, but not everyone is as obsessive about posting like me, and adventures there move very slowly (I'm talking a single combat can take months sometimes). This place seems a lot faster-paced than that! :)

IF you check out the link at the top of the lodge, "Getting ready for PFS PbP", that should help you out with how to setup your character sheet. There is no standard format, and you'll notice lots of people do it a bit differently. The easiest way would be to find a style you like and just replace it with your info. As far as when to have it updated, as long as it's before the game actually starts, you should be fine. And most GMs here are pretty helpful with new PbP players and will help you out.
I wouldn't worry about having all of your scenarios inputted. It's very rare for a GM to ask to see them. It's pretty much on the honor system around here.
P.S.: I do all my character sheets and formatting in MS Word first, and then paste them into the profile. That way the formatting is all done, and I just change the info based on the character. I can email you my setup if you'd like. Feel free to take a look at any of my characters to see if you like that setup.

Aha! That's a big help, thanks Turmoil. I'd been putting my bio only in that space, but I can see how a full character sheet would be more helpful in pbp play. I like the idea of typing it out in MS word first and keeping it on my computer to easily cut/paste it over. Not to mention I've experienced the occasional glitch where stuff I type on the profile disappears when I click the Submit button because of a bad connection or something.

I was trying to figure out PMs myself... This is my 'main' profile, maybe it's there? I can't seem to find PMs at all.
One more quick question. Do players 'roll' the dice themselves? Does the forum have an embedded dice roller or do the players roll physically and then relay the results in their post (i.e. honor system), or does it vary depending on the GM and the game? Thanks again!

Marcus, remaining true to his Taldane heritage and training into, merely bows towards his superior and waits to talk trash about him until he's out of earshot.

I've had a lot of fun with my vigilante and switching between different identities (a kalistocrat and her blackjacket bodyguard), but I mostly play with the same eight people all the time over roll20 :-P and she's currently on bedrest due to a recent and unexpected death just outside of Bloodcove...

Hi! Uh, it's been a while since I've been on the PbP boards. Looking for a high-tier scenario for my 11th level ranger, Desmond. I know Endless and others were using spreadsheets for sign-ups two years ago (the last time I was on). Is that still a thing?

Did anyone here get an entry to the voting stage for the Leaders in Liberty contest? Mine didn't make the cut so I was wondering if there was someone else I should be rooting for.
GM ShieldBug |
@Desmond: The signup sheets are now under a spoiler in the campaign tab, although most games seem to just get posted in the recruitment tab.
supervillan |
what is the leaders in liberty contest and how do you vote in it... Isn't there something on one of the faction cards for doing so?
See the blog post here. There's an associated task on the Liberty's Edge season 9 faction journal card.

Endless killed Desmond (maybe more than once - though I'd have to check my chronicle sheets). The one time for sure he died was the Haunting of Hinoj (I think - need to check the sheets when I find them in my moving boxes).

I believe Desmond was first referred to by the Deadmond moniker in one of Bold Strider's games, where we did the Echoes of the Everwar arc. Not sure he actually died, I'd have to look back through it - but it was close.
Desmond Aesculus |
Thanks for that, Terrill. Yeah, I went back and checked the PbP thread for Haunting of Hinojai - that's when Endless killed me. And he was a player in the Bold Strider session that took me down a second time. And yeah, that is the first time I'd been referred to as Deadmond. It's a fitting nickname, for sure.

Can any GMs take a look at my profile and tell me if it would be sufficiently clear and helpful to any GMs whose campaign I might be in?
I'm about to begin my first PbP campaign and want to make sure everything is neat and tidy, since I'm still getting familiar with what's expected of players. I believe all my character sheet info is there and easily understood.

I really like it. It is obvious that you took a lot of time and effort into covering not only the basics, but anything at all that might be needed or useful at any given time. I love the fact that you have a full "in character" background listed, as well as botting instructions and dice rolls. As a GM looking at this, it is obvious that having this character at a table is not only going to greatly influence the "role" play, but if you put this much effort into the character sheet, it can reasonably be assumed that you would be a consistent and concise player and contributor at the table as well. Well done.

First of all: I like what I see, you try to make the GM's job easier and that is much appreciated!
Some minor nitpicks / suggestions:
Status bar: It is not immediately clear what is flatfooted AC and what is touch.
Statistics: I would use the standard profile fields for your ability scores and remove CMD and BAB. CMD is already at defense and having it at two places is a danger in that it could get out of sync. BaB can go with offense. That saves one spoiler.
Skills: It is unclear if armor class penalty has been included or not. You also include trained only skills where you do not seem to have a rank, I would exclude those.
Links: You link to d20PFSRD and Archives of Nethys. I prefer a link to Paizo's PRD where possible, as that is the official source.
What I miss: Your PFS number

Thank you for the feedback, I've already adjusted several things on the posts/PMs I've received!
As for the linking, Paizo PRD was my original choice but I often find myself unable to find what I'm looking for on the PRD, despite it being easily found in other places. As I'm using these as more of a quick reference for my GMs as opposed to citing them as official rules, I figured it was an alright alternative.

Although it's certainly not necessary, I do a similar thing for my characters too. However, because it can be a lot of work, I made a Google sheet to simplify the process. here's the link if any one is interested. It's currently set up for a Witch, but just mess around with all the Xs to customise it to any other class.
Tita |
I would also incorporate some crunch as an ooc, if you have the time. Example:
Acrobatics +7(+3) (+1[ranks] +3[dex] +3[class] (-4)[ACP])
Though you will be in the minority if you do. I do it because it helps me keep track of ranks and where the number came from.
A great idea, I went ahead and did that. The syntaxing on my profile is pretty out of control, especially with all the URLs in my Martial Flexibility section. I think it came out pretty clean though.
Especially considering I did it all off of my phone.

Not more critical shocking grasps?
Not, of course, that this dragon disciple got taken out in one (critical) hit in that.

Just testing...
Bastard Sword Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Bastard Sword Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Bastard Sword w/Smite Evil Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Bastard Sword w/Smite Evil Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 - bypasses DR

Anyone care to help a newbie understand some things?
Boons, how do I get them? I recall seeing in a thread somewhere that GM Hmm recommends all new players get the Welcome Boon, but I don't understand how/where players get them.
Faction Goals, same thing as above. I see nothing that explains them, where to find them, how to achieve them, or what they are.
Thanks in advance!
GM Chyro |
You can get boons by GM'ing games on gamedays, playing (and winning the roll for it) on gamedays, and some small boons are on chronicle sheets spread throughout missions.
GM Batpony |
Faction goals are an optional add to enhance your role-playing experience. Link to them can be found above, it should be self explanatory when you go through them. But do ask if you're confused!
