EF is busy trying to keep my stupid Dragon Disciple from dying in our CORE Dalsine Affair game.
It's been a little hit and miss.
It looked like a TPK for a little bit.

@Tita: At the top of this page is a link to the "Kit for New PbP GMs". The Welcome to Pathfinder boon can be found there, but needs to be signed by a GM--just ask whoever is running your current or next game.
Thanks for the help, I think I got it! Can I ask what the progression speed is though? Between choosing slow and normal, is that the player's choice and if so, how does it work?
Sorry for the bombardment of questions, after over a decade of Homebrew only, fast and loose GMs the organization of it all is exciting.

Can I ask what the progression speed is though? Between choosing slow and normal, is that the player's choice and if so, how does it work?
100% player's choice, and slow progression people can play alongside normal progression. You would choose slow if you want to play more games in your character's career, that's all.
If you want to do slow, make sure you inform your GM at the start so they can fill out your Chronicle right. Most will assume normal progression if you don't say anything.

![]() |

Normal is, well, "normal": you get 1 XP and possibly the 2 PP and the amount of Gold specified by the Scenario (or 3 XP, possible 4 PP for Modules etc.).
If you choose Slow, you get about 50% of the "rewards": 1/2 XP, 1 PP, half the Gold...
You can choose slow for several reasons.
For example:
• to not pass a certain level (if you want to do a specific scenario that has a max lvl., but you are going to play several scenarios before, and if doing it Normal would make you too high to do the specific scenario you want to do...)
• because you like a character at a certain level (and so you want to enjoy it more, and so play more scenarios before leveling...)
• to remain in a level range of friends who play less...

EbonFist |

Also, keep in mind you can switch from slow to normal and back on a scenario by scenario basis unlike playing normal and core, so you can, for example, use slow progression to let a friend's character catch up to yours in level then switch to normal and progress at the same rate as that character. Or play slow for one level that you like then normal for other levels.

![]() |

I'm almost inclined to just play Slow all the way through. Really EARN those levels, develop a bond with the character.

EbonFist |

It really depends on how often you get to play, and you should keep in mind that each adventure on here is going to take a month to 6 weeks. So, you're looking at maybe 4 levels per year if you go with the normal progression or 2 with slow.
Personally, I only get to play once a month or so face to face, too so I keep normal progression because, otherwise, it would take me years to get any decent progress.

Can you switch from normal to slow from one scenario to the next? I thought you could only change level-by-level.
Granted, I've been away from society play for 2 years, so I need to catch up on the changes.

Sweet! Very cool change.

Does anyone know how to import character portraits from third party stuff on to the Paizo PbP characters?

![]() |

What are GMs/Experienced players thoughts on Vigilantes in PbP? They seem like they would be difficult to do properly in general, doubly so in PbP.
To take it further, what about evil characters? Do they throw wrenches into the mix?

![]() |

I'm playing in an AP with a vigilante. He uses two different alias for posting, depending on which facade he is currently adopting.

My vigilante doesn't see any difference between his social and vigilante guises. He just puts on the warpaint when the time for talk is over.
I play with another vigilante that swaps out social guise for vigilante guise after the briefing, and back and forth as it makes sense during the adventure. It's a fun element that doesn't really come into play mechanically too much.

"I'm always the Tumbler, except for the occasional dinner party."
The Tumbler spends most scenarios 100% in vigilante form. He only breaks out into social when he knows for sure there is a social gathering coming up. Vigilante form is his Pathfinder form.

JAF0 |

Question for the GMs here about running an AP for Society credit. I know that you have to apply the credits to a Society character, but do you have play it with a society character or iconic? Can an AP be played with characters that are not necessarily legal for society play? I've heard of some home games that kinda are run that way... but what is the correct way of doing APs?

I am not a vigilante, but I love, love, love my secret identity.
______
A dark woman in a frumpy coat shambles up to the group. "Oh hey!" She says in a nasal voice. "I'm Doris, from Accounting!" She looks everyone over, shaking their hands. "Are you all REAL field agents? They moved me out from the stock room at the Grand Lodge! One moment, I'm inventoring Cure Light Wounds wands, and the next I'm touring a demon-infested ruin! Can I get your autographs?"

What's the etiquette on multiple characters? As a player with multiple character ideas in mind, I'd love to run more than one at once. Is that frowned upon for taking up spaces? Is it downright not allowed?
I don't wanna step on any toes or anything.

I think you'll find that many people take advantage of the pbp format to run multiple characters at a time' it's one advantage of the format. It takes longer than face to face but you can advance a few pc's at a time. Just make sure not to over reach at first. Having too many games going on at once can be more of a burden then a blessing. Make sure to find your limit.

::cue chorus of people saying "For me, that number is ____."::
The highest comfort level I've seen claimed was ~25. The lowest was 1. Most people seem most comfortable at 4 to 8 consecutive games. It will involve some trial and error on your part-- if you're in two games and find yourself bored, look for a third. You'll know when you feel overstretched, and while it makes all your games less fun, at least you'll know your limit.

I hate to keep blowing up the thread, just trying to figure everything out. For boons, are there specific ways to get them? If I wanted to make an Ifrit or Catfolk, for example.

![]() |

Ifrit is actually a PFS legal race for the moment, so you can go ahead and make one. As for Catfolk, the non-legal race boons are usually handed out (as far as I can tell) during conventions, such as the gameday one. Currently the Gameday VI raceboon is awarded for GMing a game.

hiyami |

This is the best place to ask questions! c:
As far as ifrit - I believe they're currently free to create (please correct me if I'm wrong!), but I don't know about the catfolk. All information of that sort is usually found here! c:
Edit: YES, you need a boon for Catfolk, but the boon requirement for Ifrit was lifted as of Season 8! c:

Wei Ji the Learner |

The only restriction on ifrit is that if you create one, you (or a person sharing your place of residence) need to own the resource (Either Bestiary 2, Advanced Race Guide, or Inner Sea Races) that contains them.
That can be in either .pdf format or book format.
Catfolk was the Tier 2 GM/Volunteer reward for PFS at GenCon this year.

EbonFist |

There's also this where you can trade for what you want, but you'll need a boon to trade...which may be as hard to get as the boon you want...

Go for it, Hiyami.
Also we have a generous community. Occasionally, boons will be given away to someone who has nothing to trade, just because they told a great story about the character they wanted to make with that boon.
I've given away a couple boons here and there, and was offered my first aasimar by a generous person who liked my posts. I will note that right now it is pretty easy to earn a race boon -- all you have to do is GM one game for PBP Gameday VI, start to finish, and show your table a good time.

And if you peruse the trading threads, you'll also see that sometimes people will accept other offers for trades than just boons (Paizo gift certificates, custom artwork, etc.). Another idea that might work for people who play PbP is to maybe offer to trade GMing a game for someone for a boon, especially if one party has a scenario they want to play that isn't offered very often. The only thing that's seriously frowned upon is selling boons for actual cash - please don't do that.

GM Ladile |

^True, but I've seen it happen occasionally in the trading thread for PFS boons and not get slapped down by anyone in upper management so I guess it's okay? Maybe since the money is going to Paizo instead of someone's pocket, I'm not sure.
For what it's worth, I probably wouldn't go the gift certificate route either but that's my own personal call and I don't doubt for a second that upper management would start slapping it down if people started doing it all the time.

Session two of this gameday is yet to start. You won't get a free scenario but you can certainly GM in it and get a chance for a boon (and a GM race boon automatically).

![]() |

Speaking of the GM race boon, when do those get distributed?
Should be a little after you report a game. If you're gming in both PFS and SFS make sure to specify in your report notes which boon you want.

You don't even have to wait until session two, there's nothing stopping you from starting a game at any point during the Gameday. Just as long as it finishes before the entire event is over.
