I'm thinking a dragonheir scion fighter. A lesser noble who was looking to move up after winning the hand of a proper lady. Only to have her murdered. That and fallout after the fact left him disenfranchised and without steady work. A bit threadbare, rougher looking, weary from drink and rougher living conditions. Planning his revenge and more than a bit jaded, but unable to shake his kind nature entirely.

Thinking primarily strength, some dex and con, a touch of charisma. Probably going with some flavor of intimidation build since the archetype and the campaign trait both lean into it.

Fifteen percent of any wealth, of any of the shard metal, and an art piece or piece of knowledge of her choosing.

You didn't exactly loot the manor or anything outside of Berik's office, but Kevan did come into some coin in the catacombs. Not that Alden spotted that. 75 of your 500GP etherium (Obtained this time, as it was the normal amount for merging with a tiny shard.) would be the proper amount.

You could certainly make an offer of what you have, or see what other spoils you could collect, or perhaps ask her to come see for herself.

It still turns a hobby into a commercial exchange with all of the concomitant negative impacts that the exchange of capital entails. It promotes a financial burden that poorer players cannot afford; it changes the social contract of trust into something else entirely; it changes the value-proposition necessarily of those DMs who choose not to engage in Pay-to-Play; and it promotes “hustle culture” whereby society becomes a space for every hobby, every interest and every idea to be a shake down for cash. I find it distasteful, appalling and sad.

I shake my head at the financial burden comment because I know just how free and irresponsible gamers and the latest generation is with their cash. The number of people I see complaining about finances while paying for door dash is staggering.

Outside that, I think your argument on principle is entirely accurate. It threatens to change the very nature of the experience. Much like meta gaming and paid cosmetics has become the dominant experience in MMOs. The thought of the social contract between GM and players being changed to a financial one disgusts me.

Which I say as someone who primarily dms lately and spends money for software to do so.

I can figure how Tern might know, or more likely BE known from a few of the party.

Tern usually takes game by trapping, and some people frown on that kind of thing. Undo suffering and all. I imagine Craig might have noticed that on the few trips the sorcerer makes into town. On the upside Tern is also more likely to convince an animal to walk into a unseen trap than have it wander into one and suffer for a long time. Not saying it's any better, but one does what they can.

I doubt Moragul would approve either for that matter. :D

Valtyra makes things of iron and steel that he can't get in the woods, and might know him from attempts to haggle or barter. He doesn't tend to earn more money than he absolutely needs, and will then turn around and plead poverty when a deal is more than he can afford. In fact, his current trip into town he couldn't afford some tools he had his eye on.

Macharius might have bumped into him at some point on the border of the Fangwood. Crossing the Nesme plains even.

Aelethea and Reknar I'm not seeing their backstories so either they posted on their mains or I'm missing it.

I'm seeing a lot of reason for those present to think of Tern as capable but less than upstanding in their direct dealings with him. At the same time he is known for helping others when encountered without asking for anything, and being generous in his dealings when he isn't short on coin or supplies. Hopefully that means most just have a neutral opinion of him.

Also, I'm still on the fence about her campaign trait. Presently it's Milana's Hand, but I'm still looking at Craft All and then picking up an item creation feat or two. Would the Inscribe Magical Tattoo feat be okay?

That's actually where Passbog is located, if a bit off the normal roads.

That feat would be wonderful.

So he needs 550 GP of cosmetic equipment and has 350. So he basically needs more bling as his robes + hat are already nobles/expensive. I figure he will add 300 GP of jewelry if able so he will be good through 7th level as well. If able.

Aurical lifts Arius' cloak and peeks up from underneath, noting the mirror and almost ducking back down underneath it. But the glimmer of something out of place caught his eye. He looks at the altered clothing and frowns, and with a sweep of the hand across the loose fabric his own fine clothes return. He considers his garments a moment, adjusts his hat, and as his clawed fingers slip down they pause at his collar a moment.

He had refrained from putting jewelry around his neck before now. A reminder of the gold studded collar he had once worn. When he was a slave. He cast a glance to Sapphire. Well, perhaps it would do to remember he had been a slave before. He traced his fingers along his neck and a pendant came into sight in the mirror. A gorgeous piece of black gold links like his rings, only this had a diamond in it's center.

He then held out his hands, considering his rings. He put a matching copy of each on the opposite hand, giving him one diamond and one carnation ring on each finger. His tail went stiff behind him, and he made the effort to flash a smile in the mirror. Oh, but he looked grand!

"I would not rebuke an attempt at parley..." the kobold says as if resigned to do so and not tempted by the fine offer, "Abadar teaches to seek civil solutions when able."

GM, I just reread the post about crafting with Etherium. It's just occurred to me that maybe etherium lets us craft magic items without the requisite feats? Like, I have not proposed Rabbit trying to make a magic cloak with etherium because... I don't have Craft Magic Items (yet). So I was not thinking that actively using it for crafting at this point was really all that feasible. If it is in fact feasible, then maybe that can be a part of our bargaining. The dragon is interested in the etherium:

I had to go back and read what I told you all, and then check my notes. Then promptly forgot to respond. Yes, you can craft the relevant magical items without the needed magical item creation feats. However, there are a few caveats to that. The first, that you must use a relevant crafting skill. Tailoring for a cape was the example I gave. The second, is that you must use the etherium as the material component.

The object will also very clearly be made of etherium. Having a dark, silvery metallic color to it.

It sounds like Aurical's spell is not needed, so I will nix that.

Aurical was sitting cross legged on his disc and leaning forward as he went to magic his companions, but rocked back to sit up straight as he was first given a friendly bump and then interrupted. He affected what counted as a smile for a kobold, purposely so, his toothy snout opening just enough that it curled like a grin. His tail also stiffened straight behind him.

"Yes yes, economy of action." he agrees before giving a downward glance at what he felt was babbling coming from his mouth, "Let us be useful to the crusade here. Lest they doubt us."

He will clutch hard at Arrius' belt with one hand and raise his shield on the other. Seemingly prepared to get dragged in behind the paladin.

The little dragon-like, life-like thing hops down from Rabbit's shoulder and skitters around into a position where it deemed itself able to only hit the second werewolf. Rabbit was left to briefly wonder why it wasn't helping with the initial one, when it opened it's tiny maw and a wide spray of acid spewed out in a fan before it. The forest around the werewolf hissed as stinging, potent acid burned away grass and shrub. Even the rocks were scoured and turned pock-marked. The impossible area covered by the tiny creature highlighted well why it had not aimed at the first werewolf, so surrounded by allies.

Breath: 6d8 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 8, 6, 8) = 33
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

The werewolf shudders, body trembling and seizing as it's fur smoked. Flesh had been eaten away in spots down to the bone and it's great snout was half skull. The creature shrank as it collapsed face first onto the ground, turning back to a man. A very dead man.

The first werewolf snarled, but his eyes were wide in panic.

Wow, those rolls definately went in the party's favor.

The next six months are comfortable for the residents of the shard. Everyone works together and much progress is made. The shard bearers each seem to have their own plans, but some of them help the village as well...

Fogril and Siegfried work diligently at the forge. There is no end to their industrious work as they help Jaxom forge several weapons of high quality. Beyond that is a horde of other small items to repair and maintain. As well as a few fixtures and pipes for Tel Beys' own designs. The burns they have were never fully healed with magic, leaving both the dwarves with impressive looking scarring. Fogril had the far side of his face scarred in a way that went down to his neck and collar, but the dwarf often worked topless outside his heavy smithing smock. Seemingly unbothered by his appearance. Siegfried was much the same, but most of his scarring was along his torso. Normally only showing the scars along his bicep.

Did you lot ever confirm what weapons you were making other than the wraps and longsword?

*************************************

Milana doesn't change her production much. Having a wide variety of produce and animal products to offer. She had gotten into the habit of sending lunches for Norian and Bart along with Rabbit. She also ended up spending many evenings chatting with the sorcerer. It was entirely platonic, with him walking home each evening. All she would say about it was that they had both been adventurers traveling the same areas of the inner sea, and so they enjoyed talking about their pasts. When Rabbit presents her the dress he had sewn for her she had scooped him up in her arms along with the dress. Overcome with emotion to the point of tears at the sweet gift. After getting a hold of herself again she set him down, wiping her eyes and thanking him for keeping her company these last few years.

*****************************************

Tel Beys also made use of Norian and Kevan if he was amicable to make alchemical cement. She had found marble and other stone to quarry. With the sorcerer's magic she was able to transport large amounts of shrunk down stone to the mill and fashion it into tile. Some slate tile for the roof of the inn, but also marble. Next to the spring fed stream a bathhouse was built with a water wheel that brought fresh water in. Piping and copper tubs were partitioned inside, with smooth marble tile lining the floor. It wasn't enough to serve the entire community, but four could bath together with privacy and enjoy each other's company. It became common for the women of the shard to bath together and talk.

***************************************************

The Tooms family had a prosperous crop, and the new clothing and comforts did much to improve the social status of the family as they would visit into the village more. The two children fancied Kevan greatly, wanting to listen to his stories or go exploring the woods after hearing his tall tales without the threat of goblins. Though Thomas had gotten the tanning of his life after Alberta had followed her brother into the swamp and nearly ruined her new dress when she got stuck. Yana enjoyed spending more time being able to freely visit the village and spend time with everyone. There was a great stump that Martin and Alden worked to free from the ground, and it ended up being a surprise present to Alden as he received a resin finished table made from it as a winter solstice gift.

********************************************************

Mama Kurg was visited often by Rabbit, with Kevan and others tagging along on occasion. Her mood softened toward them over time, but she seemed to be growing weaker as well. Rabbit was bringing her a bundle of firewood to help her keep warm in winter when he found she had passed in her sleep. Perhaps a far better fate than she had deserved, but a good one no less. He couldn't help but look around her hovel at the nice food he had brought her, the socks and blanket to help her keep warm. The comfy and tidy nature of her little den under the fallen tree. It might bring him comfort to know he had done her good.

**********************************************************

Norian and Bart proved industrious helpers. The fit monk willing and able to help with many projects. Helping to cut stone and clear field. He kept to himself a lot, but would occasionally prove sociable. It seemed as if some burden was taken from his shoulders at being useful. Norian, on the other hand, obsessed over helping Rabbit develop and making garments for everyone. A mix of practical and fashionable clothing that ensure there was always laundry to be done and stitching to do. Which seemed to please the tailor as well when he mended clothing with magic or needle.

*********************************************************

Deshrit was so thankful when the dark, silvery material was chipped away from his "body" to free him up. Though if it actually had any impact on the gem was hard to tell. He very much enjoyed reading, and politely conversing with any who would engage him. His polite and subservient attitude seemed deeply practiced and engrained rather than some kind of programming. Making Deshrit and others wonder at the source of his personality.

************************************************************

The material that had been removed from Deshrit seemed an improbable if not impossible source of research. The smiths and sorcerer spending a great deal of time looking into it's odd properties. It could be heated up and melted like metal, or blown like glass. It could be hammered, ground up, fused, stretched... it was as if it's properties changed based on the desire of the user. It even seemed like it could substitute for other materials in the crafting of magical items. One day, while tinkering with trying to make it take a crystalline form it was dropped, and yet it did not fall. Norian took to stacking items on it to see how much it could hold aloft.

Etherium is a special material generated when shards combine. It is a silvery black material that can take on almost any property. Hard metals for forging, supple metals for jewelry or arcana, and even fine metal thread. It can also be turned truly crystalline to resemble metallic colored glass or gemstones... even beads. The group currently has 500GP of etherium after spending downtime discovering it's properties.

Etherium can be used in the creation of magical ink or substrates to give an additional effect to scrolls and potions. The exact effect varies based on the spell, and will be discovered through experimentation. It takes 25GP of Etherium per spell level.

Etherium can also be used as a substitute for other materials when making magical items. Wondrous items crafted with etherium can be made to fit slots they would not normally fit. Such as a bracer of natural armor rather than an amulet.

Etherium can potentially be used to augment or replace parts of the body. Giving magical abilities similar to wondrous items, offering fortification and other armor enchantments, or a multitude of other effect that can be discussed with the DM. I suggest looking up the planeswalker Tezzeret from MtG and the Shards of Alara block to get some idea of what can be done.

Etherium also has a crystaline form that grants it the ability to levitate a hundred pounds of matter per 50GP of Etherium.

I should add that making any item with etherium will require a relevant craft check. So making a cloak of protection with etherium will take a tailor. Making magical armor an armorer. Just in case anyone was wondering why I asked them to choose crafting skills.

I'm going strictly off what is written in EitR. I don't think that gives you exotic weapon proficiency just because the exotic falls into a weapon group.

Not wanting the gore on his robes, or on his bare feet, the little kobold conjures a golden disk of light and hops up onto it. Sitting primly and reaching out for Arrius. He let the paladin carry him over to the statue, regarding it with a careful look. He was not of that faith, so he let it pass. Instead, he reached on and snagged hold of Sapphire's belt. Catching a ride as she wandered about. Peeking past her waist from his seat and helping her look about. When he was satisfied with his progress in that direction, he would catch hold of Adigale's tail as gently as possible and hitch a ride with her. Assisting her as well.

Perception (Assisting): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4

Casting floating disk for the next four hours as a spell like ability.

I was also in an Iron Gods campaign--joined partway through Book 1 and played into the very beginning of Book 3, I think. It died three years ago. IIRC, we killed Khonnir Baine instead of rescuing him.

I have a very deep love of kobolds, and I am genuinely sorry I wasn't playing in that game. Though I'm not the best at playing evil. Apathetic neutral is about my best.

Aurical was both confident and hesitant to approach, knowing he was likely to serve as the face for this little parlay. He hesitated, and was promptly ushered forward by Sapphire swatting him near his tail, which instinctually tucked in.

"I'm moving." he hissed back before leading his two, much taller, compatriots toward the front of the temple. Clawed hands held high and his holy garb on full display. "Lord of cities please don't let them shoot me on sight..." he whispered quietly.

He will try to spot this sergeant that Sapphire mentioned, giving his best disarming smile. Which was the same practice one he gave everyone. "I bring news from the front!" he declared with smug satisfaction and no pleasantries. These were hellknights after all. "We have intelligence about the demons movements, and the need to coordinate forces." he continued, "I am a member of an irregular unit of commandoes, and we have information for your commander's ears. On the god of law, I must speak with them."

Oh boy, let's start with the checks I suppose.

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Aurical thought he might find some salvation in the metallic object he pulled from the abomination's guts. Clutching it close despite the gore and what not that lingered on it. However, a sense of dread filled him as the device started to speak. One that only grew as it got up to things. He wasn't sure what magic it was working until it was too late however. Howling in pain and terror as he was simultaneously scorched and blown free for Bob's body.

He briefly wondered what made him ever pursue this course of action as he rocketed away, only to have his body fold into Yartak from a sudden drastic halt. The sorcerer flopping onto his back and dumping the recovered metal-thing onto the ground beside him as a means of defending himself. Looking at the group, it seemed the last enemy would soon be dispatched.

He touched his hands to himself and let the familiar glow of positive energy come to his hands. Then began muttering a few words to add to the healing.

Using lay on hands as a minor, and following with a CLW as a standard.

LOH: 1d6 ⇒ 5
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

I'm still scratching my head at the scaled disciple feat and what purpose it serves. There is little ability for a prepared caster or a spontaneous one to get the full benefit from the feat, and a kobold oracle wouldn't see much benefit from the stat increase of the class other than to make up for their racial deficiency...

Amusingly it does let you learn mage armor via the draconic bloodline, and that in turn can be boosted by the kobold's favored class bonus to oracle. So you could end up with barkskin and mage armor on an oracle that increases the armor and natural armor bonuses every four oracle levels. In other words, +8 armor from mage armor and +9 enhancement to natural armor with barkskin. Eventually. With magic vestment on your spell list as well.

You could, in theory, make a scaled fist 1/oracle 16/ dragon disciple 3 with an utterly absurd AC who is an 18th level caster.

"An excess of proper material and no one thought to make alchemical cement." she notes aloud, "You would think they had no proper alchemist with them." Perhaps it was her distraction at the shoddy construction that allowed the others to all notice the tracks before her.

Hearing Nox and Alex speak of the construction and tracks Ana moves to the front of the group and kneels down to inspect the tracks. "I would first tear everything down and erect temporary barricades. she reasoned, "Then start over with a production line for cement brick and mortar. With others digging out foundation fills and drainage."

Studying the tracks for a moment she reconsiders her previous statement and frowns, "Not that I am an engineer, but cement makes a better material than this... refuse."

She studies the tracks to glean what information she can and to attempt to follow them.

Anastasia is quick to look over her shoulder, responding instantly to the touch. She scooped up her pack and armor in either hand and carried them at her side. Her tabard flapped in the breeze as she easily paced Ramona to where they would meet. Setting her burdens down she stood slightly apart from the others, bare arms crossed while she paid attention with interest.

"I hope whatever caused this isn't lingering close by." Ana said, but there was no concern in her tone. As Ramona finished she wrung her hands out on the front of her tabard, then peeled it up her torso and off. Tossing it over her pack she started to shrug on her leather armor. Once the straps to the lamellar were set Ana pulled her tabard back on.

The dark haired woman cast a side eye to Alexandr as he took point on assuming a leadership role, but made a bitter face and took out her spear and shield from the back of her pack. Strapping the shield to her back she then took up her warhammer. Hefting the awkward weight she spared an irritable look at the hourglass shaped head and belted it off at her hip. Finally armed she hefted her pack in one hand and made her way to the waiting boat.

Coming up behind MacLaren, she gave him a poke in the back of the knee with the butt of her spear as she held it up straight. "Best not to get tipsy brother." she cautioned, but her features remained placid enough it was questionable if her heart was in the warning.

Setting her pack down next to the center seat Ana then pointedly sits in the rowing position. As Shin and Nox share a bit of casual conversation she favors the two with a light smile before looking back in the direction of the shore.

Let's face it, every god approves of smashing on some level. Just ask Calistria.

It's funny you mention will saves. Ragechemist here. ^_^'' Perhaps that is something we can work on together. Got some commissar vibes looking at your sheet.

I also noticed our party is pretty strong overall. I find it refreshing. Also, Brother Maclaren and her will need to discuss tinctures at some point. Having someone who can brew the primary component (alcohol) seems like a cost saver.

I'm also interested in our gnome Nox. I have yet to have the pleasure in pathfinder of partying with one outside the video games. Sorcerer is one of my favorite classes, and it looks like they have an interesting build in mind.

Li looks like an interesting fit, personality wise, and I can't wait to see how he bounces off everyone else in the party. How exactly that will play out I'm not certain.

In short, I am very excited with the DM selections for group one. Mechanically and RP wise.

I didn't see myself at first and was starting to question my ability to make STR characters after being turned dow- oh wait I made it! Then I started reading up on the rest of the party and realized I hadn't done background skills. Fixed that. I hope I am less scatter brained come campaign start, but am very excited!

Nox looks fun, and I hope we can both prove how valuable we are to the expedition! Reading more as I write!
