Halfling with a few alternate race options chosen. Adaptable Luck: Some halflings have greater control over their innate luck. This ability gives them more options for how they can apply their good fortune from day to day, but also narrows its scope. Three times per day, a halfling can gain a +2 luck bonus on an ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. If halflings choose to use the ability before they make the roll or check, they gain the full +2 bonus; if they choose to do so afterward, they only gain a +1 bonus. Using adaptive luck in this way is not an action. This racial trait replaces halfling luck. Fleet of Foot: Some halflings are quicker than their kin but less cautious. Halflings with this racial trait move at normal speed and have a base speed of 30 feet. This racial trait replaces slow speed and sure-footed. Class Features:
Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: A bard is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, shortsword, shortbow, and whip. Bards are also proficient with light armor and shields (except tower shields). A bard can cast bard spells while wearing light armor and using a shield without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. Like any other arcane spellcaster, a bard wearing medium or heavy armor incurs a chance of arcane spell failure if the spell in question has a somatic component. A multiclass bard still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from other classes. Bardic Knowledge (Ex): A bard adds half his class level (minimum 1) to all Knowledge skill checks and may make all Knowledge skill checks untrained. Archaeologist’s Luck (Ex): Fortune favors the archaeologist. As a swift action, an archaeologist can call on fortune’s favor, giving him a +1 luck bonus on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls. He can use this ability for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + his Charisma modifier. Maintaining this bonus is a free action, but it ends immediately if the archaeologist is killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action to maintain it each round. Archaeologist’s luck is treated as bardic performance for the purposes of feats, abilities, effects, and the like that affect bardic performance. Like bardic performance, it cannot be maintained at the same time as other performance abilities. This bonus increases to +2 at 5th level, +3 at 11th level, and +4 at 17th level. Zenser was born a slave in Numeria. His master found him to be somewhat intelligent, very nimble, and exceedingly charming. He was trained to serve as a favored scout, expendable trap finder, and a bed warmer. Zen was also lucky. So much so that when he failed to notice a particular trap he ended up suddenly free. His master and her guards the only ones tall enough to die to it. With his freedom came a desire to pursue his skills for himself. Finding that being a ruins explorer, tinkerer, and trained courtesan were all very marketable as he made his way to Torch. Roleplay Example:
Zenser was busy looking up in admiration at the women he was speaking to, when an angry shout caught his attention. A middle aged human man, balding and showing red in the face, stomped angrily toward the halfling. Looming over him as he approached, with an impressive belly that poked out from under his shirt. Uncomfortably close to the halfling's eyeline. Zen's brow lowered, and he stepped onto his back foot. His arms crossed over his chest, he cocked an eyebrow up at the man and considered him. "Can I help you sir?" he asked in a bored tone. The man was obviously a merchant by his clothing, but not too well off. "You're flirting with my wife, child." he accused, "Leave, or I will whip you." There was a whip at his hip, not that anyone would have noticed by the halfling's reaction. Zenser frowned and then lifted a gloved hand, pretending to examine his nails. "Well, that explains why the lady was so bored." he realized aloud, "Surely you should thank me for stimulating her so?" As the angry fellow reached for his whip the halfling managed a dramatic sigh, but adopted a fighting stance as his opponent brought the length of his weapon back in an obvious attack. As the considerable weight of the man went forward with the attack Zen turned into him and tumbled between his legs. Rolling over his shoulder and sweeping back his cloak to reach for his own whip. Rather than let the entire length uncoil, he simply took a short length of it and snapped it backward. Right under the considerable buttox of his foe. The merchant let out a sharp and indiginant yelp, and turned to see the halfling facing him. His multiple small weapons still belted at his sides. "I was going to offer to stimulate her in private." he explained, "To spare you the embarrassment, but it would seem that has already come to pass." He put his hands out to either side, trying to show remorse. The merchant though, was smiling. Zen gave him a puzzled look, until he felt a hand clap onto his shoulder from behind. A fairly large hand. "Oh." the halfling realized aloud. A few moments later a body was sent crashing through the tavern doors, the halfing hitting the road on his side and rolling several times before he came up onto his feet. Stumbling backward from the momentum, he bumped into someone and managed to catch himself against their thigh. Briefly patting the dirt from his quilted gambeson before casting a look back up to see who had stopped his turbulent exit. "I do apologize." he began, "It would seem that I mistook that man for a fri-" His words came to a stop as he noted the smooth angular features and heavy bosom of the young woman he had fallen against. He wasted no time in turned to regard her, and swept an arm across his chest in a polite bow. "My fair lady." he began smartly, "My name is Zenser Highheart. I would be lying if I said I regret so rudely bumping into you, but I do apologize if I inconvenienced you just now. Pray, will you tell me what business you are on, that I might aid you?" The woman reached up to sweep back some of her wheat brown hair, smiling at him. "I am going to Seven Tears farm." she began, "To make purchase." Zen simply beamed at her. "Well that is fortunate!" he explained, "I also find myself in that direction..." he began, "You know, I am very friendly with the owners. Perhaps I can be of help..." Much later that evening, Zen was at the small table in his room. Sketching a design on a piece of parchment. Carefully trying to match some of the joints he had seen in some ruins several weeks back. The memory eluded him, and he had already scratched out several patterns. Looking fondly toward the bedside, he watched the young woman sleep peacefully. "Shame she doesn't follow the bronze lady..." he sighed, "But she really is a pretty thing." Giving up on his work for now, Zen put away his inks and papers and scooped up the candle. Walking over to the bed. Again, he cast a wistful look over the sleeping woman before he pressed a kiss to her forehead and smoothed back her hair. "Sleep well." he bid her. Then, he blew out the candle and made his way out, exiting the inn and slipping off into the night for some star gazing. Description:
As a halfling Zenser stands a full three foot tall. He has swept back brown hair and expressive eyebrows, as well as a neatly trimmed sideburns that extended down into his beard. His chin, mouth, and cheeks were all clean shaven. He normally sported a relaxed, confident expression. Brown, cinnamon colored eyes showing amusement often. The hawkish shape of his nose and regular smirk aiding the roguish look he tried to adopt. He wore a dark red shoulder cloak clasped with a bronze buckle, and under that was a navy blue gambeson that was tied in place over his leather armor. Straps fastend with bronze as well. He wore leather breaches over his dark red linen pants, and unlike many halflings he had calf high leather boots covering his feet. Again, bronze fasteners adorned his boots. Every individual piece from head to toe polished to a shine. A thick belt at his waist held many weapons and pouches. Each secured or hung by a brass loop that matched his belt buckle. Progression and Party Role:
Starting out Zen will be most helpful using his boosted assist other and variety of skills for the group, but as he levels he will become increasingly useful in combat and casting support. There is actually a rogue talent that allows a flanking ally to make an attack as an immediate action when you miss. I intend for Zen to flank, and miss, an awful lot. |
