But yeah, Detect Magic requires a bit before you get its full benefits.

FWIW, I agree with you about Detect Magic and I think you were within your rights to mention it here. That's what the discussion thread is for. And, again, you didn't do anything that requires an apology. It's all good. Now, I'm going to see if I can smack you in the game, hehe.

In the matter of Chess vs. Zar'zan:

Zar'zan, it's pretty obvious what square you're in. Invis will still grant you the usual miss chance if anyone takes a swing, but anyone nearby is going to know that *something* is driving the sled. Also, currently, your partner is trying to unlock the cuffs around your invisible ankles.

Chess, if you were blind last round, the perception check didn't matter for anything visual. Dazzled is only a -1 to perception and attack, not blindness, you can roughly tell where Zar'zan is, so the faerie fire works.

I rule this one in favor of Chess. He happened to have the right tool for the job, and fired it at the right place.

Male Duergar Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

Very well. Its over with and Zar'zan's apparent and pissed so I wouldn't suggest getting too close.

This one's a little tricky. I could see it going either way.

I'm tempted to say yes because Flanking is about being harried by both sides, not necessarily about the intended teamwork of the attackers. I will rule in favor unless anyone voices significant dissent.

Gah! Look at my turn! My damage rolls were so high! Had a rolled a 9 or higher on my attack you would have taken 10 and been fatigued for the duration and entangled for a round. Melashara did NOT pull out a clutch roll, unfortunately. This does not bode well. :-(

:-)

That was rather unfortunate rolling. Now Zar'zan has two rather prominent targets on his list...

We'll have to see how this round ends before figuring out what he'll do next.

I'm a little fuzzy on touch spells as well (pardon my ignorance). Mel missed with her attack. Does that mean she can hold the charge until she hits something, if she chooses?

And yes, driving into an unexplained magical sigil is very reckless, as it could as easily be an magical mine or ward as it could be beneficial. But Chess is feeling lucky, and his 9 wisdom score leads me to make reckless decisions for him. *fingers crossed*

I'm not sure on that. I'll have to do some digging through the rules.

Anyone dealt with this before?

I looked up a ton of these rules before this match. So yeah, the charge is still held. The way it's discharged is:

1) I hit someone with it

2) Someone hits me (like, with an unarmed or natural attack, for example) or even comes into contact with me.

3) I cast a different spell.

Also, if I hit someone with my hair it does the hair damage PLUS the spell takes effect.

So you might wanna think twice before getting up in my grill, ZZ. :-)

Male Duergar Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

Last I remember, you could hold them indefinitely or until you cast another spell.

Male Drow Noble Dawnflower Dervish (Bard) 1

This is a ridiculous question even with context, but Mel, do you know if your hair threatens spaces like a reach weapon? I'm not really familiar with the icy/witch/magic hair-do that seems to be common among all the ladies in our gladiatorial match.

Speaking of feminine influence, my back up character is just about finished and ready to almost double the amount of ladies in our current game.

Yep, it's a 10 ft essentially natural reach weapon (threatens adjacent and from 10 ft away).

I had to bite my tongue hard not to say anything, but when Ziggy attacked GWrrrr, he (Zig) actually only missed by one, as I was flanking Gwrrrr with him.

Male Duergar Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

Mel I would have to disagree with that. The spell overtakes the hair attack. Something like that would require the Magus' ability or somehow getting spell storing on her hair I do believe.

Edit: I retract this. Just seems its not possible with the first attack.

Male Drow Noble Dawnflower Dervish (Bard) 1

It's still a strange and fantastic idea that you could flank or threaten people with your hair. I love the flavor, and it's a great character. As someone who just builds characters for the sake of it, I'm appreciating getting to see so many fantastic builds.

Me too! I have a file just for character sheets I have randomly made out

Loot Tracker Current Map

Ok, after reading up on it, it looks like Mel's right.

If she misses, she retains the charge.

She loses it if she gets hit (and fails a Concentration check), or if she casts a new spell.

So basically the spell is still charged and can be delivered from any part of her body she attacks with.

Male Drow Noble Dawnflower Dervish (Bard) 1

Alright, retiring for the evening! See you all in the morning!

Male Duergar Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

Actually, I have to question whether my lovely monkey-beast would attack her as she makes strange arcane gestures right in front of it.

Edit: All that long threatening hair reaching out.

No, it's not smart enough to recognize that as a threat. If she did something startling (flashy spell), or hostile near or towards it, it might though.

As for the attack, yeah, that'll probably get it's attention. You'll have to wait for the round update to see what my random angry monkey table says.

I believe my Knowledge check revealed that as long as I don't attack it, the Monkeysheep won't attack me. I'm quite skilled with that hair, and I promise I will not accidentally touch the sheep, and I will certainly not attack it, hehe.

Male Duergar Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

Alright. What if she starts whipping that hair about trying to deliver the spell with a natural attack? A clearly visible sign of threat. ^^

Yeah, this time I cast the spell first, then moved next to the sheep and just tried a touch attack. A gentle caress if you will. :-)

Alright, I gotta go to bed.

Round 3 extended

Executive decision. I'm a little brain-fried and I keep getting lost in the jumble of actions as I do this round's wrap up, I'm tired of doing re-writes so I figure I'm going to take it as a sign.

Also, it's looking more and more like a few of the players just aren't coming back. Hopefully waiting until tomorrow to wrap things up will give the missing folks a chance to come back.

HP 17/18, AC 18/14/13 CMD 17, Fort +1, Ref +7, Will +0,

I usually cut people a lot of slack if they post a warning or apology or some kind of status...but if they leave a bunch of people waiting on them with no communication at all, I usually have little patience. Violation of the social contract and all...

I agree. That will be the next step for the folks that are just no-shows. I just need to work out a way not to penalize the folks who got stuck with them as teammates.

I don't think we necessarily need to level the field for those that have dead weight on the team. Given the seething melange of chaos that the race is turning into I'd just hand wave them being eaten by a monkey horse and keep on trucking :)

Well, two of them are on our team, and I just started a strategy that will make it very hard for me to finish the race, but hopefully let me help you guys do so. So...probably wouldn't work out too well for us.

Joboo shall return - he's just travelling... and depending on the outcome of our most recent actions we may very well be on the deck with you.

Remember - winning is secondary. What is important is that we put on a good show.

"Keep on showing me that magic Muscle Wizard"

@DM Doomed Hero: I already posted (it was bedtime for me, CET you know) so I'll just wait for the next round to be able to use it.

Crazy race so far btw, I'm still a bit annoyed by the order of posting compared to order of initiative but at least most people post so that's ok I guess.

HP 20/20 AC 15 CMD 15 Fort+5 Ref+2 Will+3

yep .. with this many people it can get crazy. If it gets overwhelming (don't want DM DH to burn out) could split the initiative in half. Top half posts one day second half next. But I guess that might get even more confusing though .. I'm really enjoying reading it though .. can't wait to get in the ring!

Makes sense. We havn't seen Cedrica, Samson, or Valk post in over a week, and we've at least two present players waiting on the sidelines, with a few back up characters rolling around as well.

A question about the Improved (Combat Maneuver) feats. Tetori forces me to take Improved Grapple at level 1. Should I replace that with a feat from the standard monk bonus feat list?

Looks like my sled-mate Cedrica has applied with that character in another pbp

I certainly wouldn't mind if she got "called back to the booth" and did a tele-swap with me. :)

I'll wait to update the game until you can get a post in. I think I was pushing for things to move to quickly than a game of this size can realistically do. I think I'll do an update every two days (like round 1), that seemed to be just the right amount of time.

I get excited every time Muscle Wizard posts IC, hehe. Today I had the Captain Planet theme song in my head, but instead of Captain Planet it was "Muscle Wizard". No joke.
