I would start in the 'Play-by-Post discussion' forum. Click 'Create new thread' and pick a descriptive thread title. For instance, "[PFS] GM PsyBlade's To Judge a Soul - Discussion'.
Once you've made that thread, you should see a box at the top asking you if you want to add a campaign to the thread. Click the link to create the campaign, and give it as similar title, like "[PFS] GM Psyblade's To Judge a soul'.
Once you've done that, you can add a Gameplay thread and - if you want - a recruitment thread. For the gameplay thread, you can just create a placeholder and fill that later. If you make a recruitment thread, I would suggest you add enough detail for reader to know what kind of game you're looking for: The recruitment forum has lots of people trying to get in a game. Make sure you mention that you're recruiting for an official PFS, which scenario it is, what the level range is, and whether you have a preference for low subtier or high subtier (or no preference).

Thanks, it was more for the PFS game I am starting during this weekend that I am recruiting for from flaxseed :) but this will help me. Much appreciated!

Hey all. I am thinking of closing down the GM recruitment application for Cosmic Captive GMs, so that I can get in our support paperwork early. I'm hoping that if we give Paizo sufficient lead time, we might be able to get hold of Cosmic Captive with a bit more lead time for our own prep. (I realize that this may be a vain hope, but still, I have to try.). If you've been thinking of applying, do so in the next 24 hours.
Thanks!

It's march. Your game doesn't start until june.
It won't even be looked at until may 1st. You have plenty of time.

Correction, it's almost April.
Given what a beast CC is, they might get some queue-bumping for clearly and perfectly understandable Reasons.

Would it be fair to say that just about any character would have recovered a gem worth 400 + 100/level or more by the time they reached 10th-level? I'm trying to figure out what Faction Objectives this character would have earned, since I've been keeping score the wrong way up until recently.
To the same end, I'd also really appreciate it if someone could verify what adventures out of the following feature haunts that can potentially be permanently exorcised (and/or include valuable gems among their loot, as covered above):
0-05
3-05
2-11
3-01
3-07
02
4-02
03
"Carrion Hill"
"From Shore to Sea"
3-10
4-05 (DM'd)
"Day of the Demon"
5-03
4-06 (DM'd)
5-23
2-12
3-12 (played once, DM'd once)
3-14
"Doom Comes to Dustpawn"

If you GM you can tick GMing off on a FJC, but not the other boxes.
I suspect retrospectively going back to tick boxes is against the spirit of what the FJCs are trying to encourage.

Newblet questions for the... I dunno, reckoning? Only, don't reckon me too hard - don't know if my cramped, little bottled up heart could handle it. I've had some questions answered by GM Swifty quite some time ago (he was the beeest!), but I'm basically brushing off my Pathfinder sheet after... um. A long time.
And I'd only ever had the one adventure with PFS, so I was hoping I might get some answers here! :D
That said --
1. How should I handle the weight of my coins? ;A; Can I assume that my character, at some point, went looking for a bank to convert the gp to pp? Can she store her money with a group? As is, her money weighs 10.54 lbs (thank you Hero Lab) and I'm not sure what to do about it...
2. I'm an idiot and didn't realize there was a light-medium-heavy skill check encumbrance and didn't apply them previously but now that I'm aware of it (again, thank you Hero Lab), I'd like to do something to keep my weight at, well. Not medium? Light, preferably. Any recommendations? Kaya's currently a bit sad with a paltry 517 gold pieces, but she does have 2 Prestige Points (if that helps).
3. One of the items that I think I'm able to purchase post-Trial by Machine is an epick at 30gp. Do I just kinda... do that? Do I get someone to sign off on that? Granted, I'm not sure I 100% want one, but seeing as Kaya's a rogue, I don't see the harm in it.
But yar, those are my queries for the moment. My undying gratitude to the glorious hero that saves me from my utterly frustrating and excessively dramatic plight.

I'll try answering for you.
1: Coins, honestly most folk ignore this. If you want to know you have 10k coins on you, you'll need to account for the weight, but most characters are kind of assumed to leave the bulk of their wealth safe at home in the Grand Lodge.
2:Muleback cords can help, and later on a handy haversack. My 7 STR scholar swears by his.
3: If the epick is on your chronicle, just put it on your Item Tracking Sheet and knock off the cash. Technically your GM should have done that from the 6.01 But you can get your next GM do that at the start of your next adventure easily.

Ah, okay! Thanks so much. It's definitely not Shifty's fault, orz. That was me just kind of... being indecisive for a very long time.
Here's another question, though - I just read through the adventure I went on before and I used a sling bullet/ammo and an acid flask. I'm assuming the acid flask is gone for good, but I was wondering about the bullet.
I didn't know if those were something she could retrieve. I'd wanted to retrieve it, but never got an answer from the then-DM. Is there an actual ruling on this?
Thank you again! <3
GM Aerondor |
Generally ammo that hits is gone. Ammo that misses you have a 50% chance to recover, if you attempt to do so.
hiyami |
Ooooh, very good to know, thank you! Annnnnd, I think this is my last question? For now, anyways. You mentioned the handy haversack and the muleback cords, but... Are those things that I can get in between games? (once I have the money, anyhow) Or is that something I just kind of have to cross my fingers and pray I'll encounter in a session?
GM Aerondor |
Once you have the money and the fame. All purchases need to go on your chronicles, which your GM should sign. But if you turn up at a game with a list of stuff to buy, and the sources for it, most GMs will be happy to add it in for you.
In PBP, players often end up adding these items to their own chronicles, although that is not officially how it is supposed to happen.

Yeah still here!
Still rescuing games, and putting on multitable specials.
I'll need to start recruiting for games again soon :)
I also became the local VC, so that took up a lot of bandwidth for a while as I started gripping up the local VA's and getting a handle on what was happening in the scene.
All under control now...!

I could use some assistance: The "Serpent's Ire" game I was in was never properly closed up. I sent the DM a message about it, but nothing came of it (ith was clearly partial to/better at Roll20 over these forums, so that may have something to do with it).

Same as taking over a game matey.
Send an email community@paizo.com.
* Provide a one liner 'Hi our GM left and hasn't closed off the game, could you please deactivate the thread?
* Provide a link to your profile page (click on your name at the top where it says "Welcome, your name!"
* Provide a link to the gameplay and discussion threads for the campaign you need closed.
(Just copy and paste these links from the address bar in your browser, please)

Done - sort of. There was no Discussion thread to link them to.

this is what I see at the moment there, and when I try to post, nothing happens
I did delete that part that you refer to, cause I screwed up with my starting thread

That's what did it. Campaign threads are different from other threads. The campaign is basically linking to a non-existent thread now. You'll definitely need to close out the campaign and start a new one.

figured, created new thread, will close that one when we have started (sending email to paizo)

Newbie GM question here: is there anywhere I can obtain maps for scenarios that don't have all the dots for enemy starting positions all over them? I know sometimes the scenarios have the maps cleared at the end, but sometimes they only give the marked ones. It makes it look pretty crappy and kinda confusing to have all the extra stuff on the page for higher tier parties when mine is the low tier.

Mjolbeard, this website, lets you extract the plain maps and images, no marks on traps or positions.

Awesome! Thanks for the link. My browser is having trouble accessing it at the moment, but I'll give it another shot later.

I mentioned a few solutions a few pages back, and a few others mentioned tools I missed.
GM Hmm mentioned a document she wrote that has links to PDF-processing websites.
Basically you want something that can edit finished PDF files so you can extract images from it. The websites should be alright as long as you stay under the file limit.
GM Hmm |
Getting images out of PDFs is easy -- once you've done it once. Before that, though, it looks pretty intimidating!

There's also nothing wrong with searching the boards for other recent games of the same scenario and reusing another GM's maps. No sense in reinventing the wheel.
Another thing I always recommend for new GM's is to check out GM Shared Prep. While you won't find maps there, you will usually find stats for creatures and such so you don't have to worry about finding the right bestiary and applying templates all the time. Although the newer scenarios now include all of your stat blocks to make it easier.
GM Hmm |
Sometimes there's a map in PFS Prep! There was one that someone did for Risen from the Sands that I used because it was clearer than the one that came from the scenario. I also like Turmoil's point. When I started out, before I knew what I was doing with my own image extraction, I was a notorious map thief. I will admit right here, right now, that I stole maps from both Baerlie and Endless.
Is there a 12-step program for former map thieves? I feel like I am still working to repay the PBP community for the misdeeds of my youth as a new PbP GM!

Wasn't able to get on pdfextractor.com, but used PDFaid.com, and it worked beautifully. Thanks again for all the suggestions and help, folks!

As a side note, if you have an iPad you can open the PDF there and then long press on the map images you want (and the other character images too for that matter) and then save them to your device. It always saves them without the mark up notes, like traps and room numbers etc... It's pretty simple that way and I have my camera images back up to my Dropbox so it's all where I need it.

I do something similar on a PC. I just highlight and copy the images I want, and it copies without the extra layer of text, so I can paste it into any image program. Unfortunately, some maps have secret doors in the initial layer, so they're still there.
I do this in Acrobat Reader. It's my number one image extraction option for everything except some Season 6 scenarios. For those I need one of the PDF extractor sites.

Whoa. You can do that on an iPad? Back up.... What app are you doing this in? I do everything except image extraction and chronicles on an iPad.
Tell me more.
